There are definitely cheaper options out there

A lot of them kept coming up in the threads
They seem decent enough—but honestly, Mašini, Emi, and Srčeko are the only ones actually worth the hype. We'll just have to sample the rest and see. 🎉

I have sampled Osmijeh, Mala Kuca Kolaca, Cukeraj, Piece of Cake, Meli, and several other pastries from Paromlinska. I must say, most of them were frankly terrible. They are far too heavy on margarine, and the fillings in the cakes are almost identical, except for those using jam instead of cream. I am quite disappointed. The only highlights were Piece of Cake and Cukeraj. Those actually tasted decent; each had a distinct flavor, so you knew whether you were eating vanilla, coconut, or chocolate. I decided on a cake very quickly, but choosing among these pastries is proving to be a struggle. I think I'll go with Cukeraj—hopefully they offer a bulk discount! Thanks, ladies.

I should also mention that I had these incredible mignon pastries at a wedding once. We actually ordered them again for Christmas to see if they lived up to the hype, but they were an absolute disaster... honestly, it was like they weren't even the same treats. I just don't get it.

nothing unusual here

I remember being at a birthday party once and having what I thought was the best ganache cream cake in the entire world...
I think I managed to polish off four slices myself! 🙈

Then, about a month later, there was a christening for my goddaughter's little one, and I decided to order that exact same cake... well, let's just say it wasn't quite the same... it was way too heavy on the sponge and lacked that creamy goodness, but oh well, I ate it anyway...

Fast forward six months, and I’m out tasting cakes for my own wedding, and I head back to that same place to try their selection—including that one—and... nothing like it. It didn't even resemble the second cake, let alone the first one...

It’s actually a bakery called Piece of Cake that I was totally obsessed with two years ago... I really have no idea what happened to them in the meantime... 🤷

Maybe it's just a matter of who's doing the work
Two different people can whip up the exact same cake using the identical ingredients and still end up with something totally different.
It’s like me and my mom😁—same recipe, same kitchen, same pans—but the final product is always worlds apart.🤣

Nathan Cox25 🤣

Well, that could work too...
And honestly, sometimes you don't even need much—just a tiny tweak to the recipe, like swapping out the heavy cream for a different brand at Walmart, and suddenly everything feels just a little bit different... 🤷

My folks celebrated their anniversary yesterday, so my mom picked up some pastries from a local bakery downtown: cream puffs and some other creamy treats.
The second thing wasn't bad, I guess—just had that weird artificial aftertaste. And those cream puffs? They weren't even real cream puffs: no flaky pastry, just chocolate and cream that tasted like instant powder.
🙄
Today we actually got some decent cherry strudel instead.

I’m planning to have mine made at Sweet Treats Bakery for $20/lb, and they even offer free delivery—they'll bring them right to my apartment in NYC or even out to a hall in a Suburban US city—even though they're based in a Small town USA. We tried their treats back during Christmas and Easter, and let me tell you, they are absolutely delicious..

Hey everyone!
Sophia, when's the big wedding? I was actually considering ordering sweets from them, but I have zero clue if they're any good and I'm too chicken to pull the trigger without a solid recommendation.....

Mine is set for October 16th. If you're unsure, just grab the number listed on their website and head down there to sample a few—or, you know, just order a couple of pounds to bring home for a little excuse to treat yourself...😁

Roger Mendoza42 said:And Absolut in Karlovac has a wedding mix for $18 and their sweets are great (you can grab them at Walmart so you can test them out first). $67 handles delivery in New York City, but it's not like it's far if you want to just drive over there yourself... and apparently, in San Jose, it's 50 bucks at the Mozart bakery (at least that's what some girl told me, so who knows if it's true), and supposedly they offer free delivery... but look, I don't know about that, but I *do* know about Absolut because their cakes are on the menu at my venue, and I think I'll just order them for home too so everyone gets the same thing....

Absum actually delivers great quality pastries considering what they charge. Some of the bakery prices in Chicago are just straight-up ridiculous—honestly, I don't get it. Also, when I happened to stop by the Absum location in my suburban US city, I realized they carry wedding flowers upstairs too—and again, the prices were about half of what you'd find in Chicago. I'd definitely recommend them; I was pretty happy with how everything turned out, especially my bouquet.

Since I haven't actually started asking around about cake prices yet, I was looking at the one Inna mentioned on this thread (the white one with purple hearts), and I was wondering if anyone could give me a rough estimate of what that might run me? Specifically, for those of you who actually tied the knot, 😉what did you end up paying for a cake meant to serve about 120 guests? I think I've mostly ruled out doing cupcakes instead, though I guess I haven't completely made up my mind 😁

I really need to start getting my act together regarding the cake situation. While I was away at the beach, I kept having these stressful dreams where I was still trying to sort everything out right before the ceremony—like, literally 😁the same day

You know what—honestly, this whole thing where they price a cake based on individual slices feels absolutely ridiculous to me... It’s just absurd. In principle, if you order one standard round cake, they tell you it serves 20 people—meaning 20 slices—but then when they actually get to the venue, they cut the slices nearly in half! So suddenly that same cake is being stretched to feed 40 people. I have never, ever received a slice at an event that was even remotely close to the size of a slice you’d get at a proper local bakery; it's always practically half the size. Anyway, I am expecting somewhere between 220 and 250 guests, and according to their math, I would need 11 to 13 cakes. And each of those cakes costs anywhere from 220 to $90, maybe even more if you want any special decorations or custom work... I have been to plenty of weddings—quite large ones, actually—and I don't think I've ever seen anyone serve more than six average round cakes, yet everyone gets a piece regardless of whether there are 100 or 250 guests present.
So, who exactly is the crazy one here?

Seriously though, weddings are a total money pit, and those fancy cakes? Way too expensive. 🤷 It’s just how it goes.

The only way to play it safe is to order fewer slices than there are guests. But honestly, I’d probably be stressing out the whole night wondering if we actually ordered enough.

What am I supposed to eat at home after the wedding reception?? 😬

Regarding what I'll be leaving behind for swiftranger16 and upucaj? 🤣

I’m honestly at a bit of a crossroads here... we're supposed to get a cake provided by the restaurant, but I have this nagging urge to just order something custom from a local boutique bakery instead. Now I'm stuck on the details. Should I go with fondant? I have this irrational fear that if they don't roll it out perfectly, the whole thing is going to look like a disaster. Plus, I know some people just peel that stuff off and leave it on the plate, so you end up basically paying for nothing but decoration. It's such a weird dilemma—that sugary mass looks incredible for photos, but then again...🙄

Doesn't sit right with me—I'd rather just eat the ingredients used to make a cake.

I’m personally not a fan of fondant
—though I have to admit, there’s something quite charming about a cake dressed up in fondant if the execution is actually done right...
