Living with Psoriatic Arthritis in Health ·
I don't have a definitive diagnosis on my specific type of psoriasis yet—it’s just started flaring up visibly in key areas—and I've dealt with joint issues since I was a kid. Doctors never gave me a clear answer for the joints back then because I didn't even develop the psoriasis until a few years ago. If there's a link between the two, it might sound ridiculous, but working out on the elliptical actually saved me. Now, I've intentionally avoided using it for three straight weeks just to see if that's the culprit. Honestly? I can barely move. Everything hurts—my legs feel like they'd struggle just to push a shopping cart, let alone anything else. So, are these symptoms—the joint pain and swelling alongside the psoriasis—actually connected? I'm too exhausted to go chasing doctors around; I gave up on them a long time ago.

Kate Williams41 said:Man, how did you pull that off? Seriously... I wish I could just... 😢
So, were you just lounging in the sun... or was there some secret sauce involved?!!

Thank God for that...👍

Nothing special—not even a basic tan. Just tanning—well, more like baking—plus swimming, and that’s it. It's been a pretty mellow summer, what can I say?😉

Man, I'm telling you—I spent the last two weekends down by the coast, and my skin hasn't had a single flare-up. Not one. Honestly? I think I might actually be able to head into the mountains next. 😁

Thanks, everyone. I’m going to try asking nicely first—see if they'll just let me take it out of my PTO once I'm actually eligible. If that doesn't fly, I'll probably just call in sick. Honestly, it's easier knowing I have the legal right to it on paper 🙂 because at the end of the day, official is official 😉

Hey everyone, I’m going to throw out a bit of a weird question here—but I have a feeling you guys will get where I'm coming from 🙂
Sun and the ocean are pure gold for psoriasis; we all know that. For me, my skin clears up completely every year after summer—it stays clear for months at a time, which is honestly amazing. But unfortunately, I don't have any vacation days left this year, and I'm nowhere near the coast right now. Is there any way to actually take sick leave for this? Like, officially? My goal is really to try and get this under control, not just to squeeze in a little summer trip 😢 so, does anyone here work in HR who can give me an answer? Pleaseeeee 🙂

Just a quick update on where things stand... since I ditched the empty promises of things like elocom or dyprosalic and whatnot, I can finally say my psoriasis is actually under control. For about six months now—maybe a little less—I’ve just been using a basic moisturizer. It isn't gross, it's slightly visible sometimes (though honestly, some days you can't see a thing), but overall? I'm beyond happy with it. Yeah, it itches a bit, but I'm not letting it win... I'm holding my own, what else can I do?

I haven't had much luck with Diprosalic—it’s just a cycle of applying it and then having everything flare up twice as bad... Right now, I'm not using anything at all, and honestly, things are pretty much under control. A little bit pops up here and there, but it isn't nearly as brutal as it used to be.

Maria Chavez55 said:Now that you’ve brought it up—and I honestly avoided mentioning it because it sounded completely insane—I have to admit I've noticed the same thing. My psoriasis looks a hell of a lot better after shaving. It’s not like it magically disappears or anything, but it definitely looks less intense. 🤷 Well, looks like there are two of us now. 🙂

We made it. Three of us. Finally. 🙂
And Kate Williams41 is here too.

Finally, I can embrace my inner feminine side and (de)hair myself with a solid excuse 😉! Honestly, sometimes my lovely wife uses my Mach3 when she's in a rush, and I end up with breakouts all over my face! It’s high time I swipe her Epi Lady and get some payback 😁! My only dilemma—should I shave one leg or both? Which would be sexier?😲?
"Michael Ramos3"—ugh, I'm just over it...😵
But hey, I'll sign the petition 🙂

If we're talking about what's actually sexy, I'm going to steer clear of the whole leg debate 🤣 ask a wife—a wife knows 😉
but honestly, psoriasis is the ultimate aphrodisiac 😂 😂
(had to throw in a little dark humor 😁 )

Can any of you ladies shoot me a DM? 🙂 I’m looking for something near the Capitol or somewhere in that area.

Kate Williams41 said:I honestly can't tell if it actually disappears completely—or if you've just lost your mind trying to force it off.😉Honestly, I’m not surprised you're still shaving your legs despite the psoriasis. I was using it before my skin flared up—and yeah, I’ve kept using it right through the flare-ups too. It’s actually pretty great—it clears away those flakes, doesn't it?😍
It’s not quite like your situation where the psoriasis just vanishes... maybe you get a week where that thinnest layer clears up—but honestly? I'll take that win any day.
I just hope I don't run into those scales again... they drive me absolutely insane.🎉

Hey there!👋

And just like that—it’s almost completely gone. 😁
Strange... should we be suggesting this to men too? 🤣

Chris Morgan67 said:So, I headed over to CVS to pick up some flaxseed oil capsules—just a quick errand, right?😍
I've been doing some deep diving on Google—and honestly, my brain is fried—so I’ve decided I’m going to pop one capsule every single day for the next month. Let's see how that goes.

After that, I’m grabbing some Omega-3 capsules. 😍

What’s the actual point of those capsules?

too bad that little device hurts me way too much—I usually end up in tears after using it🤷

to me, it looks incredible once you're done—this thing is a total killer, especially if it can take down psoriasis 🤣
I don't know, I'm just saying—maybe I'm just losing my mind... someone please talk sense into me😁

Look, this might sound stupid—and I know, they say there are no stupid questions, so bear with me😁
I’m a woman, plain and simple. I use an epilator on my legs, and in the process, I basically ignore the psoriasis and shave right over it—don't act too shocked, mine doesn't look nearly as bad as some of the cases you see out there... at least not yet 🙄. But here’s the thing: every single time I do this, the patch clears up for about two or three weeks 😕. It happens every single time, and it's been going on for a year now... Is there actually a logical explanation for this, or have I just completely lost my mind in this obsession to get rid of it?

Robin Robinson8 said:I had my tonsils out too—didn't do a damn thing for my psoriasis. Every time I catch even a minor cold, the lymph nodes in my neck flare up, and whenever my immune system takes a hit, the psoriasis flares right along with it. Honestly? I think psoriasis just hides somewhere inside us, waiting for the perfect moment—stress or a cold—to blow up again. 😁
I really hope yours settles down for you.

By the way, ever since I switched to just using Vaseline and taking Sandimmune, it’s almost completely cleared up. There’s still about 15% left on my body, but it’s minimal—it doesn't even flake anymore, just stays red. 🙏 👍 Man, I am so relieved! 😍
Hey everyone!!

What is that? 😕

Jerry Grant2 said:Alright, so it’s been 7 days since I started using Elocom. At first, things were actually looking up—even my mood improved. Everything seemed to be clearing out, but then yesterday? Boom. It all flared back up like I hadn't done a single thing. 😢
I watched what I ate, tried to stay chill... 🤷

Diprosalic and Elocom absolutely wrecked me... I barely had anything going on until I used them. Every time it seems to clear, it just comes back twice as bad. 😢

Honestly, I have no clue—just try a quick Google search. You're guaranteed to find something that hits the mark. 🙂

Michelle Parker3 said:Guys, my psoriasis was barely even noticeable for the last 2 or 3 years... and then I started using that useless Dyprosalic and Elocom crap, and now it's flared up worse than ever. I have a gut feeling—and a pretty strong one at that, if anyone more experienced would agree—that these things just "treat" it only to have it come back twice as bad. I swore I’d never put that stuff on myself again. Instead, I’ve been using chamomile (still need to track down some sage)—when it first went into remission, that worked wonders; I went a record 6–7 weeks without a single spot. My previous record was maybe 2 or 3 weeks. Now that it's back, I'm applying that too, just waiting to see what happens. Honestly, it really dries things out! During the day, I just use a neutral base. I'll let you know how it goes!

So, it actually started clearing up on its own after 10 days. I was using the chamomile, then just switched to a plain base, and now it’s just vanishing... 😍 Which is totally weird to me, but I'm not going to overanalyze it while the results are this good. 🙂

wearycrane11 said:I’ve got a question—does alcohol actually affect psoriasis, or does it make things worse? Same goes for smoking?! I’m assuming since the liver acts as the body's filter for all kinds of junk, there's gotta be a connection somewhere.

From what I know, alcohol and red meat are pretty bad news for psoriasis—definitely things you want to avoid... as for anything else, who knows?

Chris Morgan67 said:How do you guys deal with chamomile?🙂

So, I picked up that homemade stuff... You boil about two or three cups of water and toss in one teaspoon of chamomile. Cover it, let it cool down, then strain it. I take a cotton ball, soak it in the cold chamomile, "apply" it first, and then just dab at the worst spots—letting it air dry. I've been doing this right before bed. It actually dried out my psoriasis, but who knows if it’ll actually clear up for good? I'll keep you guys posted.
