Can an American Catholic be successful and wealthy? in Close to Politics ·
Charles Davis7 said:People keep debating Catholicism, astrology, and all that other fluff on religion or career forums—you know, how to make a buck—but not in politics. In politics, the standard should be someone's actual political stance based on logic and interests... though I guess we'll just watch the whole political scene turn into a bunch of extremists soon enough. 🙄

In this context, you could probably categorize the topic under psychology: persecution mania, paranoia... and so on. 😲

Raymond Ramos59 said:Look, you know I’m just messing with you regarding how "alternative" your tastes are. 😁

Honestly, looking at this now, it’s clear you don't even know why you actually hate the movie. First, you claim it's because of the cast—but then, once Coldplay mentioned the lack of certain stars, you suddenly agreed. Just face the facts. You haven't even seen Ocean's Eleven or Ocean's Twelve, so you really shouldn't be weighing in on this at all.

The reality is simple: you aren't a fan of colorful, straightforward movies with fast-paced plots that don't require much mental heavy lifting. That’s the bottom line. That's why it didn't click for you. But you have to look at it objectively—as a piece of pure, simple entertainment, the film is brilliant.

Coldplay didn't say there were no stars; read the post again. And then read it once more. Keep going until it actually sinks in.

Besides, if Shmuley Boteach hasn't even seen the film like you're claiming, how can he possibly know it's colorful, simple, fast-paced, or intellectually shallow?
Sylvester Stallone in Movies ·
No matter how much he acts like his face is under local anesthesia—and despite the fact that in the Rocky series, which is centered on boxing, the fights are easily the weakest part—he still edges out Steven Seagal by two lengths. 😬
Ocean's 13 in Movies ·
There are a few key terms that haven't been touched upon yet—terms that are absolutely vital to understanding this series:

1. glitzy
2. Hollywood-style
3. preservation (pardon my French)

And just to wrap things up with a compliment instead of the usual whining about how tragic the film industry is: the movie perfectly captures the value system of a certain slice of American society—a world where superficiality and shallowness are laid bare, looking something like a peacock's backside illuminated by a flashlight. 🙂
What does it mean to be a true and good American? in Close to Politics ·
To be a true American means being someone who hasn't quite bought into that cosmopolitan worldview—the one demanding a global market—but instead clings to a modern paradigm that has made the last few centuries far bloodier than necessary by insisting on divisions fueled by nationalist movements. It’s ironic, really, given how today's critics bash domestic intellectuals for "disrespecting sacred traditions" or "sending heroes to The Hague," when those very intellectual elites were what actually jumpstarted the movement in various European countries.

Our nationalists ought to ask themselves: since when, in their estimation, have people in this region identified as Americans? That identity is, after all, the ultimate indicator of national sentiment. Some would likely be shocked to realize it hasn't been happening "since the seventh century"—which, by the way, is true for almost every other nation, so don't go thinking Americans are some kind of exception. Historically, among the masses in these latitudes, loyalty was tied more to lineage and tribal ties—or perhaps just local patriotism. Does that really sound illogical when you consider the sheer number of dialects still spoken today, or the long history of states we've built, split apart, and merged back together?
How much do we actually differ from trees? in Philosophy ·
A tree will only ever be as different from you as you choose to let it be—nothing more, nothing less.🙂
Columbo TV Series in Movies ·
They hit the nail on the head with Dadilja—you figure out the killer within the first five minutes, then spend the rest of the movie trying to guess which eye is glass. 🙂
The real kicker, though, is that Peter Falk played Columbo so brilliantly that you can sit through even his mediocre films just to see him work.
