slyrider16 said:Regarding Aliens, I mean, I get why some people think it's the weakest link in the series. It’s actually one of those rare sequels in Hollywood that doesn't just take the first movie and remake it with a bigger budget. Sure, you've got some familiar faces and similar vibes, but the whole vibe is different—it's a totally different genre. If the original Alien is pure horror, then Aliens is more like an action-drama.

I'm pretty much on the same page here.

I guess that's why Aliens stands out as such a great sequel; it really carves its own path away from the original, like a movie that could totally work all on its own. 👍

slyrider16 said:Wait, who said Terminator 1 was bad? Not me. Like I mentioned earlier, I think almost anything Cameron directs is at least decent. But if I had to pick his weakest among the good ones, I'd probably go with the first Terminator.

Sorry... I was just skimming through the threads.

Personally, I think I'd pick The Abyss.

I think you guys might be overreacting a bit regarding Cameron,

it’s not like Terminator is some bad movie—it’s got that tight mix of action, sci-fi, and drama—and I don't really think Aliens is worse than 3 or 4 either. I mean, maybe 3 can pass as a decent enough film, but 4 is just such a letdown compared to the rest of the series that I don't even count it as one of the Alien movies, I guess.
glupinickname said:That's also true. I mean, which countries would even exist at the Olympics then? And honestly, which one of them would even dare to send athletes who could actually beat the Americans?

well, maybe just a few:

Wurstland (Northern US)

LederhosenStaat (Western US)

EvaBraunGarten (Eastern US)

SchwimmbadLand (Southern US)

etc. etc.
glupinickname said:and those old-school Disney critics.

you wouldn't miss them at all

they might look a little different though:

northerncrane4 said:Oh, come on. Like anyone would actually bother trying to win a FIFA World Cup against us anyway.

That’s kind of a dark thought, isn't it...? 😲 you'd really let people who aren't even part of our group compete against us??? I mean, what's next?? some random person at the Olympics???

I guess this whole current generation of flowers 🙄 🙄
northerncrane4 said:Was he the one who actually kicked off the war in Vietnam and basically pushed the whole world right to the edge of a nuclear holocaust?

nah, I think he was just the guy hanging out with Playboy bunnies.
northerncrane4 said:What would we even be missing out on? 🙂

Well, nothing really... I mean, we’d probably just find ourselves in an encyclopedia somewhere:

Americans - a Slavic people who once occupied southern German living space, whom we "humanely relocated" east of the Urals following recent breakthroughs in robotics and the realization that machines are way cheaper than free labor.

Germania Encyclopedia, third edition, 2005, Third Reich

😁 😁
northerncrane4 said:It looks like those silly Republicans actually outsmarted the brilliant Democrats. I mean, what kind of world are we living in lately? ☕

🙂 :takes-a-revolver-and-puts-one-bullet-in-the-cylinder: 🙂
northerncrane4 said:Man, honestly... when you see that even after that movie where they exposed him so well, Bush still managed to win the election—and this time even more decisively—it just makes you want to give up on everything. I guess you start feeling like there's no point, and like any attempt at being righteous is either totally useless or just ends up backfiring on you in the end.

well, the Republicans had their own campaign running that year too... using Gibson's "Passion" 😁 😁

his version actually got more views 😁
Jose Miller17 said:The guy was basically trying to make a movie to get people to vote against Bush, but then he just realized he had to take himself out instead 🤣...man, this whole thing is just pure madness 🤣 🤣

I mean, Smudge is a Republican, I guess. Without Bush, there wouldn't even be a life left for him 🤣
Jose Miller17 said:just imagine if northerncrane4 and vajta teamed up... like, if smoog was pulling all the strings behind the scenes while vajta acted as the official spokesperson🤣 🤣 🤣 ...

yeah, I guess...🙂

🤣 🤣

I mean, they'd probably just end up being some weird hybrid of a Black Swan and George Bush🤣
milk said:he's forcing himself on us again 😁 😁... I was just echoing what quietdriver3 said...

can we all just chill out for a second? i honestly can't tell anymore who's trying to push who around 😁 😁
Jose Miller17 said:I mean, I was actually getting a little worried about White... he’s acting kind of weird lately, like he's lost it 😕 😕

I guess someone finally just stepped up and told him how it is 😕

🙂
Gerald Barrett25 said:Actually, knowing how the author works, I feel like this is more about some kind of self-driven exhibitionism. It doesn't really feel like a statement born out of genuine turmoil, nausea, or despair—which is what that realization usually brings about when you actually sit with it and think.

he's obviously just messing around... if White had actually said that, I'd be genuinely worried 😁 😁
Jose Miller17 said:Heh, northerncrane4 isn't just being fed dangerous ideas... I guess it's more like he's being forced to think things that the person actually trying to influence him didn't even want him to think in the first place. Maybe? It's kind of weird when you look at it that way. 😁😁Poor soul, whoever ends up going to the movies with him... I mean, seriously. 😁😁😁
....

Why though? I mean, don't people actually want to sit in a dark movie theater too? I guess it's just... how things are, I suppose. It is what it is. ?? 🤣 🤣
northerncrane4 said:My star, you really have to read it, just to see what actual depression looks like. And then maybe move on to Palahniuk. Compared to the book, the movie is basically a picture book.

Yeah, I guess I believe that 👍

I mean, if I actually read it, I feel like I might never want to get out of bed again 😁

Is it more depressing than Orwell?
northerncrane4 said:So, let's say everything just... doesn't matter. Like, there's no positive way forward in today's world, just a bunch of thugs and criminals running the show, and no matter what you try, things aren't getting better. In that case, maybe it’s just easier to check out right now—and hey, if you happen to take a few of those jerks standing around you down with you on the way out, well, I guess that wouldn't hurt either.

man, holy crap... if you actually took that away from F911, I really hope you never end up watching "Fight Club." Who knows what kind of headspace that might put you in. 😁 😁
northerncrane4 said:It’s just like... maybe "Fahrenheit 911." Nothing more, nothing less.

but I guess what's the actual danger you're seeing with F911?

Like, not voting for Bush?

I mean, that doesn't seem dangerous at all, it just seems pretty reasonable, I suppose.

Jose Chase2 said:Have you ever sat down and watched 'Space Jam'? Well, the sequel, 'Back in Action,' is just... I don't know, it's totally different. It feels way more upbeat, playful, fast-paced, kind of wild, but also smart? It’s all of those things at once. Honestly, it's such a great movie. And I guess it was actually the last time Jerry Goldsmith did any of the music, too.😢

You should definitely grab it from the video rental place if you can; I think Joe Dante really nailed it on this one.👍

Yeah, I heard somewhere that the whole thing started because they wanted to rebel against the first 'Space Jam,' and that Dante just decided he wanted to make a proper movie using the Looney Tunes characters...

okay... I'll definitely have to pick it up.👍

It’s nice to see him back in top form, I suppose.🙂

northerncrane4 said:I mean, you’ve got a point there, but I guess we should probably remember that movies like "The 13th Warrior" and that infamous "Rollerball" were actually edited without him having any say. And honestly, "Basic" is just so over the top for me that it isn't even a total disaster, I suppose.

fair enough

maybe he belongs on a thread titled "directors who were just victims of bad luck"😉

him and John Landis
