I know how that sounds, I really do... 😁 😁

but then one day you finally sit down and watch the original Dawn of the Dead and it kind of changes your whole perspective. 😛

Man... if you're a Republican, this kind of stuff should probably be your jam. 😁 😁

Anyway, you might as well grab some more Basil works while you're at it—maybe check out RoboCop and Starship Troopers too. 🙏 🙏

You should definitely grab the Hulk soundtrack by Danny Elfman—it’s honestly such a vibe

Maybe also check out some scores by Alan Silvestri, like the stuff from Back to the Future or Forrest Gump

And I don't know... I feel like pretty much anything by John Williams is basically genius... (like, take The Lost World, where the music is easily five times better than the actual movie, or even just the Superman Theme 🙏 🙏 🙏 )

Zbiljaaaaa?

Hey doll, I’ve actually had this one question on my mind forever... what kind of brainwashing methods do they use at that school? It seems like once you finally step out into the real world, anyone looking at your work ends up with an acute eye injury from the sheer intensity of it all. 🙂

I really ought to know that trick

I'll try to get to that tomorrow, I guess...

okay

So I watched it and man, the movie is just fantastic... I'm actually really blown away by it. After all those recent Dawn of the Dead remakes and Resident Evil stuff, the old master showed everyone how you actually make an intelligent zombie flick

Which is exactly what this piece is—a satire on everything living. It’s a critique of social dynamics, a jab at Bush, a critique of the War on Terror—basically your classic Romero: social commentary reflecting the era it was born in (Night dealt with the 60s in its own way, Dawn with the 70s, and Day with the 80s). The dialogue is great, the script is actually smart for once (I caught maybe two little logic gaps, but they don't really ruin anything), the characters feel almost comic-bookish (but not too much, just right 😉), there aren't any screaming teenagers 👍, and the horror scenes are expertly directed (that army of zombies emerging from the ocean is definitely going into the hall of fame) and all of it is perfectly balanced with humor (typical Romero-sadism, where he makes you laugh first just to scare the life out of you 😁 )

The film basically acts as a narrative sequel to the previous trilogy, but it kicks off a whole new trend (kind of a Mad Max meets zombie movie vibe) and creates this atmosphere that feels much higher budget than the older ones (you know, it lacks that raw, amateur documentary feel that the predecessors had, which provided such a unique kind of fear). That might be my only real complaint—even if it's only about ninety minutes, I guess they could have given him a bit more cash to shoot a few extra scenes 😠, but this is a new film, a trilogy that evolved into something else entirely, much like his zombies... 👍

I should also mention that the movie looks twice as expensive as it probably was, and I'm glad they used CGI just enough without overdoing it.

Overall, it's an excellent film (best zombie movie since Day if we aren't counting the parody Shaun of the Dead 😉 )

Glad to see the old geezer hasn't lost the touch 🙏

Jose Clark7 said:I checked out parts one and two, and honestly, they're awesome. 🙂 I guess thinking law is perspective when you're just trying to figure out if a movie is actually fun to watch. They aren't exactly masterpieces, so I doubt 99.9% of the mainstream crowd would dig them, but for those of us who appreciate the horror genre—for all its ups and downs—it's a pretty cool watch. I mean, where else are you gonna find such rough effects, acting, plots, and music that somehow all come together to make it interesting? 😉

I think you just eventually hit a point in life where those Italian "hybrids" don't really cut it anymore. 🙂

There seem to be a few different stages for any horror fan:

1.) American mainstream
2.) Italian clones
3.) Asian (especially Japanese) sicknesses
4.) European underground
5.) American underground

I'm actually heading out to see it today 👋

The pay isn't exactly huge, unfortunately 😢 😢

Man, Resident Evil pulls in like 80 million, so how do these kinds of movies end up settling for 20? 😠

I guess I was really hoping this flick might open some doors for Romero with the producers 😢

I think you might be exaggerating a bit 😁 or maybe nostalgia is just clouding your judgment too much 😁 ??

I recently rewatched Demon Unit and I was honestly shocked by how bad it actually was, even though I had such a great memory of it. (I mean, it’s one of those memories where even those old movies by Dolfić felt good 😁 😁, if you know what I mean)

There’s a whole mix here, from City of the Living Dead to full-on zombie flicks, but there's really very little quality to grab onto. It feels like just a bunch of random scenes designed for shock value and trashiness—which, I guess, can be great at times, but other times it's just a total disaster

ps

The second one stuck with me better (whatever that's supposed to mean 😉), and that scene with the TV is probably one of the most effective scenes in horror history 😲

But the third one... man, even back then, the third one was garbage... I wonder how I would feel watching it today
supposedly this movie is just unmitigable garbage... whether they edit it down or not

well, maybe it's just because he loves getting under the skin of someone like Noah Gonzalez7 with his casting choices... I guess. 🙂

The new Tim Burton movie just hit theaters 🙏

The reviews have been great so far, and honestly, the trailer looks pretty promising. The production design is especially stunning—it kind of gives me those vibes from a live-action version of "The Nightmare Before Christmas"

Supposedly, the film doesn't have much to do with the previous one. The screenwriter mentioned he hadn't even seen Gene Wilder's version (which, I guess, was okay enough 😉), so instead, he took direct inspiration from Dahl's book, though with some Hollywood tweaks, of course. Because of that, the whole thing supposedly leans into being a bit of a kid's horror flick, which I think means it stays true to the book. Add Tim Burton to the mix, and you've probably got a winning combo 🙂

I should also mention that, allegedly 🙂, Johnny Depp's performance is brilliant. He apparently based Willy Wonka on a blend of Howard Hughes and some 70s glam rock star 😁 🙏

I'm not sure when it'll be hitting the local theaters here in the States, but I'm definitely going to check it out 👍 👍

Actually, I think it’s quite the opposite.

I guess Ronny Yu's quartet is honestly one of the best examples of self-parody I've ever seen. Maybe it's just me, but there's something about how it leans into its own absurdity... it really works.

The movie was honestly such a pleasant, unexpected surprise. I guess I wasn't really expecting much, but it ended up being quite a nice little ride. 👍

I noticed they stuck with a pretty similar approach for the fourth one too—you know, that scene featuring Britney Spears. 🤣 I guess I'll definitely give it a watch, though I'll probably just stick to a Blu-ray or something... honestly, I don't have that much faith in the movie. 😉)

Johnny Depp, you're asking way too many questions for your own good, I think😁 😁

I mean, when you're diving into a Vajtin thread, you kind of have to just embrace a healthy dose of "willing suspension of disbelief," I guess.👍

Our very own Tom Cruise, wearing this equally crazed look while trying to bring a bit of calm to the room, just says:>

...it's nothing, sweethearts. Don't look out the window, because everything you see is just a product of your imagination and enemy propaganda meant to stir up unrest among our ranks...🙄

"Earth is under attack by the alien beings from another planet."

It’s honestly impossible to say a line like that with a straight face, I guess. 😁 😁 😁

Maybe even the screenwriter realized that at some point 👍

ALIEN 1: It’s a gorgeous planet. I think we’ll just bury our tripods here and then, you know, one day... once we finally feel like conquering Earth. I mean, we can't right now because it’s mostly just inhabited by some parasites, bacteria, viruses, single-celled organisms, or whatever they are. And those things are, well, you know, super dangerous to our health. So, we’ll just wait for them to evolve into something bigger and smarter, and then we'll come back and wipe everything out.
OTHER ALIENS: BRAVOOOOOOO!!!!
ONE ALIEN SUSPICIOUS: Errrr... but what if those same organisms are still on Earth in a million years?
ALIEN 1: Bzzzzzppp.... No, they won't be!

or maybe it went more like this:

ALIEN 1 (a million years ago): So, this is Earth. You guys seeing this?
OTHER ALIENS: WE SEE IT!!!!
ALIEN 1: Man, this is a beautiful planet. I'd love to have it in my personal collection of awesome planets, but since we're still stuck in that awkward developmental stage between an electric shaver and a jet engine, we don't really have the tech to survive that trek of, I don't know, several million kilometers. 😢
ALIEN 2: Excuse me, sir, but maybe we could just send these little drones of ours toward that amazing planet? We could program them to dig themselves in and just wait for us to show up whenever we finally get the technology. 😬
ALIEN 1: OK kid, sounds crazy enough to actually work. You've got the job.👍

fadedsailor932 said:...I mean, WotW is just loaded with clichés. It’s kind of silly—Tom Cruise is everywhere right at the start, and he barely has any muscle on him while people are literally vanishing into thin air before you can even say "bzzz."

I guess if they had killed him off at the very beginning, there wouldn't be a movie at all, right? I mean, when someone asks why a specific character survives all those disasters in a certain film, the answer is pretty simple: if they didn't, we wouldn't be watching a movie about them, we'd be watching some other guy who is 😁 😁

fadedsailor932 said:For half the damn movie, he doesn't actually explain what's happening to his kids, or like, who's attacking them. Plus, the whole "don't look" thing (as if they won't see the ruined buildings and dead bodies), which I suppose just makes the psychosis and the screaming feel even more intense.

maybe something like this:

ARRRRGHHHH... WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE... ARRRGHHHH... ALIENS ARE COMING FROM ANOTHER WORLD AND THEY PLAN ON SUCKING OUR BLOOD AND PULLING OUR INSIDES OUT.... THEY'RE GONNA KILL US... DON'T YOU GET IT (grabs the girl by the neck and starts shaking her frantically with a crazed look on his face)... DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND....??? WHY AREN'T YOU SCREAMING...??? WHY AREN'T YOU SHITTING YOUR PANTS LIKE ME...??? WHYYYYY!!!!???
