Gregory Smith21 said:A Buddhist monk gave a young trainee the task of meditating for exactly 45 minutes. He doesn't have a watch, just two incense sticks that each burn for one hour, but they burn at different rates!

How on earth is that young monk supposed to measure out exactly 45 minutes using nothing but those sticks? 🍿

Wait, can he light them from both ends?
Because if he can, then here's the trick:
If you light one stick at both ends, once it's completely gone, exactly thirty minutes have passed.

Actually, he should probably light the second one at the same time! So, he lights both sticks like this:
- one at both ends
- the other at just one end

--> Once that first stick burns out, thirty minutes have flown by. Perfect! At that exact moment, he just needs to light the other end of the second stick—since that one has already been burning for half an hour and has thirty minutes left, lighting the other side will make it finish in just 15 minutes.

😁

But honestly, how is a young Buddhist supposed to actually meditate if he has to constantly worry about managing all those burning incense sticks? 🧐

Honestly, I’ve been wondering about this exact same thing!

From everything I've gathered from the replies so far, it doesn't even seem like a matter of technical limitations, does it? It feels more like these are intentional policies set by the platform itself!

And I just can't wrap my head around how that would somehow compromise integrity—plus, I'm dying to know what the legal basis for all of this actually is! Does that mean the posts we've written here are essentially the property of the site, leaving us with absolutely no say in what happens to our own words?

Benjamin Taylor90 said:Oh, you totally dragged me into this too, didn't you? Shame on you! Honestly though, you deserve a full 100% for that one! 🙂

Oh, you really think you could take me on? Honestly, that would just be a total ban, wouldn't it, and then everyone would act like you actually "won"! 😳 😁

Jessica Miller51 said:I’m definitely one of Luiza’s former "victims," since I actually joined this forum back when she was still a fresh moderator and she handed out bans like they were candy—which, honestly, felt totally unfair at times because she’d just ignore those exact same slip-ups from everyone else! But you know, it’s been such a breath of fresh air lately to see how much her moderation style has evolved, hasn't it? She doesn't just throw out sanctions left and right like they're free ice cream anymore; instead, she really lets the discussions flow and uses those bright red warnings that are impossible to miss! We all have those moments where we get carried away and lose track of things, so if someone realizes they've gone too far and stops on their own, why should there be any punishment? It feels so much fairer now, especially since some people just straight-up ignore the warnings, which honestly just isn't cool behavior! Can you believe what I just witnessed?! I saw someone drop a serious warning on a thread, only to have the very next person jump right in and start chatting away like nothing even happened—don't they realize there was a rule posted just seconds before?. I haven't really been keeping a close eye on whether any sanctions actually went into effect, but doesn't it feel like nothing has happened yet?Isn't it funny how there are always those same few guys and girls who just derail a thread with their nonsense until the whole conversation loses its point entirely? Honestly, if they were actually held accountable, this entire forum would be empty! I really think Luiza should just let people hash things out; if someone gets attacked and then defends themselves, as long as things settle down quickly, why stifle the discussion? She's so consistent about explaining exactly why she hands out a warning, which I see in the appeals here, unlike some other moderators who just don't bother! When she sends a warning, it’s done so politely without any of that cheapness you see from others. Even though I still have some active warnings on my own record, I truly don't think she deserves this massive wave of criticism because she genuinely tries to do her job fairly—which is a huge contrast to that one moderator who takes their personal issues out on everyone else, or that other lady who pops in once every month or two just to hand out penalties with such incredibly arrogant comments!

That was actually me (assuming we're talking about the same thing), though I'll admit I wasn't exactly reading every single word of the thread because Henry Evans10 totally got under my skin, and once he started posting, I just couldn't bring myself to deal with him anymore, so I skipped straight to the second-to-last page and completely missed that warning! But anyway, yeah, I did end up getting a strike, which you can go check out in the thread, and honestly? It was totally fair for everyone involved!
But wait, if you're saying it happened right after the warning was posted, isn't it totally possible that someone just hit send before they even realized what had happened? You know how it goes, don't you—you're typing away so fast that you post just a minute after a notification pops up, only to realize you missed the update!

I totally agree with that second point! Isn't it just wonderful how Luiza treats everyone with such genuine respect and keeps things so level-headed? She really just honors herself and those around her, which is honestly so refreshing to see and creates such a positive, healthy vibe for everyone, don't you think?
Honestly, though, nobody is actually coming at her en masse! Krtek started this thread with a disclaimer, and we just stepped up to say we don't see it that way, so really it’s just one single user offering a suggestion rather than an actual critique, right?

Grace Sanders24 said:But Luiza is seriously a total saint! Before she stepped up, there wasn't even any real moderation on this site, you know? She's doing everything she can, and I honestly have no idea what's gotten into Krtek lately, because we truly couldn't ask for a better moderator than her! 🍿

So true!

Luujzaa, there is just way too much off-topic chatter going on here, and honestly, I can barely even contain myself sometimes—don't we all just need someone to come in and get us back on track?

Wikipedia, looking at how those waves hit, really acts like a massive storm front moving through the States 🤣

Basically, yeah, it wasn't that all 90 posts a day were actually from Wikipedia, but rather that after those specific bursts, everyone just stopped posting so much because people started migrating over to OFF... you know, since there wasn't much left to build on in any given thread! I remember checking out the subforums and seeing days where there was literally only one single post written in total—not even counting the chat, which I think stayed pretty active the whole time. It felt like this weird little shock to the system for a while, didn't it? Then eventually some threads started picking up steam again and things have stayed that way until now, though we never quite saw that crazy volume of posts again like when Wikipedia and the rest of the crew were going wild.

And honestly, I can't recall the exact date since I was away for a bit myself, but if I had to guess, I think Luzja stepped up to moderate sometime before June 2019. 🤔

Thanks so much, northernviper4! Honestly, isn't it just the best feeling when you can always count on finding such an amazing atmosphere and nothing but wonderful people right here? 🙂
I’ve been meaning to bug you about some tech stuff a few times now, but honestly, life just kept getting in the way with much more pressing matters! I can't even remember exactly what it was anymore, but don't you worry, because I'll definitely be reaching out with all those questions once it all comes flooding back to me! 😁

Anthony Nguyen81 said:Honestly, I’m just sitting here scratching my head because I can't see any way for us to actually make that switch happen, you know?

Is that the secret code for romance? Because honestly, isn't that just the dream?!
But surely there’s got to be some kind of way to make this work, right?!
You just can't move them all over two by two, because at the end of the day, someone actually has to be in the boat to row it, right?
At first, you probably just send over a single pair, but then the real question starts to bubble up—who's actually going to come back? Is it the husband?

Then you just go ahead and bring in two more women to round out the crew!
Isn't it just funny how it seems like everyone on the other side is a woman?
If you swap out one for the other, don't you think you'll just end up attracting twice as many men?

And that's exactly where the headache starts, isn't it? Because at the end of the day, you actually have to find someone to bring back!
So, you just return one pair and then go ahead and transfer the other one over! Isn't that just the simplest way to handle it?
Well, that’s just a total deadlock, isn't it?! 😂🔥

I really should spend some time browsing around online, because I'm positive there's a solution out there somewhere waiting to be found! :)

Don't go ruining the surprise for yourself! 😁
So, does anyone actually know if there are any limits on how many times we can head out there, or is it just an open invitation? And more importantly, who exactly isn't allowed to hang out with whom? Like, is it totally fine for one person to crash with a couple, or is that against the rules?

northernviper4 said:So, what are the actual rules for switching things over and what kind of moves am I even allowed to make here?
I’ve already gone ahead and mapped out all the floor plans for those cannibals and missionaries, plus that whole wild scenario with the wolf, the goat, and the cabbage! Honestly, if you need me to tackle that one too, why wouldn't I just jump right in? :D

Yeah, they really ought to be telling us that!

Anthony Nguyen81 said:Is it finally time to strip everything back and head back to the basics? Wouldn't it be just wonderful if we could all stop overcomplicating things and get back to what really matters? 😬

Man, wouldn't that just be one hell of a messy job to deal with? 🤣

I just went back to see how much I've actually forgotten lately, but does anyone else remember that old riddle about the boat, the wolf, the goat, and the cabbage? 😬

Are you guys staying tuned for the sequel? 😬
Check out this deep dive into the current state of affairs! Doesn't it just make you wonder what all these findings actually mean for our future?

Time for a little lab assignment! Is there anything more exhausting than dealing with the whole jealous husband situation? Honestly, don't you just wonder why some guys feel the need to be so incredibly possessive over nothing at all?
Can you believe how much fun it is to write a program that uses Breadth-First Search to find the absolute best path? Isn't it just incredible when you finally nail down that optimal solution?
How on earth do we even begin to tackle the whole issue of jealous husbands? Is there actually a foolproof way to solve that headache once and for all?
So, here's how the whole problem breaks down: we've got three husbands and their wives who all need to...
Can you imagine the sheer thrill of crossing from one side of the river to the other using just a single boat? Isn't it just wild how much simplicity can hold so much excitement?
Don't you just agree that there really should be a moment where we make sure none of the wives are around?
Imagine if she could just bring along a second husband, provided her current one isn't actually there to see it! Wouldn't that be something? A boat could easily handle it!
Can you believe it? It can only hold up to two people, and there's absolutely no way it can sail empty!
Isn't the most optimal solution always the one that gets you there in the fewest possible steps? I really feel like the program just needs to be streamlined!
Can you just imagine how much easier life would be if we could simply write out the solution as a sequence of operators and states that lead us straight to our goal? Wouldn't that be absolutely wonderful?
How's everything going with you all today?

I tried running through the whole thing in my head, but honestly, wasn't I just moving them around in circles? It felt like I was just shuffling the exact same group of people back and forth without actually getting anywhere! 🙄 Well, at least they got to cruise down the river together, right? I mean, what's not to love about that kind of pure, unadulterated romance? 😁

northernviper4 said:Honestly, I’m right there with you—don't you just feel like that whole thing is a complete non-issue? 😁
Of course, it’s totally logical that they both share an optimal solution! But I was actually wondering if there might be something else tying them together—maybe regarding their underlying assumptions, certain constraints, or even just how the problem itself is set up?
I've got a few coworkers I could probably pick their brains!

Why don't you just go ahead and start a new thread? Honestly, wouldn't it be so much easier to follow everything if we just moved all the posts over instead?
Wouldn't it be just wonderful if we had a dedicated thread for these kinds of discussions, and maybe even a rule that encourages everyone to kindly explain the basics to anyone asking without any of that judgmental mocking? Honestly, I’ve never felt even a tiny bit embarrassed about asking a totally basic question! 😁!

I am totally on board with this idea! Honestly, I had no clue you guys were diving into such fascinating topics here, but now that I know, I'm hooked! I’ve had to put my own coding courses on the back burner lately because life just keeps getting in the way, but can you blame me? I’ll definitely be lurking and following this thread closely, and who knows, maybe I'll even pop in with a silly question or two every now and then—because hey, isn't that the only way to actually learn something new?

Haha, you know, those huge drops in post counts didn't actually happen when Luiza stepped up to moderate—she’s been a staple here way before June 2019, and if I recall correctly, we even saw some major peaks back during her era! It wasn't until the exact moment Wikipedia started getting partitioned that things shifted, don't you think? 🤣

On another note, I really have to say how much I love the new visual layout! 👍

lonebadger6 said:Especially when you look at the response to that post about the first three people to arrive in Columbus where all three of them have way more education than just a high school diploma! One is working as a doctor, another is skilled and looking for work soon, and the third one works at IBM. So, 3 out of 3 are clearly "educated," and 3 out of 3 are either already working or trying to find a job, just like so many others in different cities are doing right now!
.

Wait, did I hear you right when you said "the first three people to arrive in town"—are you seriously suggesting that the refugees who just arrived in Columbus consist of a doctor and an IBM professional?
CNN :D in Feedback & Suggestions ·
So, I feel like I’ve seen people complaining about the moderator lonebadger6 a million times now, and honestly, isn't it pretty obvious that this isn't just happening by coincidence?
Well, if the sheer number of complaints actually means anything at all, then count me in as another voice joining the crowd!

I was really wondering, though, why on earth my post regarding immigrants got deleted from the thread?
Every single bit of information I shared could be backed up by official data from US government agencies.
Could someone please explain to me how exactly that post was considered trolling?

"Trolling is defined as an individual who enters established online communities, such as an internet forum, with the sole intention of posting inflammatory, rude, or offensive messages to intentionally annoy participants, stir up conflict among users, or disrupt the flow of discussion on the forum."

So, would anyone be kind enough to clarify for me what part of my message actually fell into that category?

EDIT: I should probably mention that I'm incredibly well-versed in this entire situation and that everything I presented was based on relevant, factual data!

Sure thing, absolutely! 😳

Have you ever seen anything more charming than this little find from IKEA? I honestly can't get over how perfectly it would fit right into my living room, don't you think? It just radiates such a cozy, welcoming vibe that makes me want to redesign my entire space immediately!
Foreigner? What on earth are you talking about?

Curtains or drapes? Honestly, isn't it just such a fun little design dilemma to have when you're trying to make a room feel perfect? 🤔
So, what's actually the difference between them? 🙂
So, I was browsing through the IKEA website and noticed something kind of funny! They have this whole section dedicated to Curtains and Drapes, but then when you click on certain items, it just says "Curtains" and doesn't mention the drapes anywhere at all—isn't that just the strangest little thing?

Oh my goodness, if there’s a specific name for every single type of Curtain out there—like you know, the sheer ones, the half-length ones, the floor-to-ceiling heavy drapes, the ones with those little metal clips, the ones with plastic rings, or even the ones with fabric loops... I think I might actually lose my mind because there are just way too many words to learn, don't you think?!
