stormylynx14, as always, the voice of reason 😉 I’m with you 100%. But even in my office—which is strictly a non-smoking zone—it still happens. Just five minutes ago, a colleague popped in to have me print something and lit up immediately. Of course, the whole room reeks now. When I asked if he could manage just five minutes without a cigarette, he just gave me this nonchalant shrug and said "no." Then he had the nerve to ask if I was actually worried about developing some little tumor 😲 It makes me feel like I’m being overly sensitive while he’s perfectly fine, and I’m just the one nagging him with my "principles"... 🙄 typical! I don't see things improving anytime soon. I've asked this same guy at least twenty times to just head to the designated smoking area (the ladies have their own little corner where they gossip and smoke like there's no tomorrow), but he won't budge. If someone close to you can't respect that, why would a stranger? I usually find Americans a bit oblivious, but at least over there, they ban smoking whenever possible; you can't even smoke at home if the smoke drifts toward a neighbor 👍 If I recall correctly, in New York City, it's banned in all bars, whereas here, people go to a pub specifically to light up, regardless of secondhand smoke and everything else... Luce, I wouldn't hold my breath... 😢
darkbison81 said:Exactly. That’s why I don’t get why there isn't a dedicated area for smokers. Someone really needs to look up what the actual laws say and then call the inspectors or something...
Isn't that pretty much the same thing as smoking? If I go tearing down an empty highway and crash, I’m the one paying the price. But when I’m reckless on a crowded road, someone else pays for my lack of attention. Either way, the fallout feels just as heavy. 😢
Thanks so much for the recommendation 😛 Fortunately, I have much better odds of getting taken out in a car or on a motorcycle (so now I’ll lay out my little theory on how road rage actually triggers accidents 🙂 😎 )
I believe you, darkbison81 😉 It’s better to receive a message like that... and I honestly think it's right in the end. Even if the induction theory becomes widely accepted, death would still be caused by tumors being triggered earlier due to cigarette smoke. Personally, I'd much rather deal with a sudden heart attack or getting hit by a bus than face a tumor strike. 😁
Does anyone on this forum actually stick to the topic anymore? 😕 It’s all interconnected; you can't really separate one from the other. And since I’m the one who started this thread, I should be allowed to wander off-course once in a while, right? 😉
Look, here's my take: avoiding secondhand smoke is pretty much impossible unless I go into total isolation. It's just that ubiquitous in America—as predictable as the sunrise. So, whether I want to or not, I'm inhaling it, and according to doctors and scientists, I'm shortening my lifespan. Of course, I’m an optimist; I don't wake up thinking I'll find a monster growing in my lungs tomorrow. But let’s be real—the statistical probability of that happening eventually is high, and that applies to all of us. I wanted to hear what the seasoned members here thought about it, and I've received some opinions along with some theories regarding tumor induction that honestly don't hold water for me. From what I gathered, the logic suggests most people have a chance at developing a massive tumor, but if they die of something else first, it's simply because the tumor wasn't induced in time during their lifetime. In this view, cigarette smoke is just one factor among many that might trigger it. As much as that theory tries to make sense, I just can't bring myself to accept it as sound reasoning.
darkbison81 said:1. What do you mean by "became"? I feel like I’ve laid everything out in my previous posts. I thought you were interested in secondhand smoke, but it turns out you're just interested in lecturing me about it. 😉
2. Which theories? Are we talking tumor induction? Look, if you don't like current theories, feel free to go get a PhD, spend fifty years in a lab, and present something better. I'm sure humanity would appreciate the effort. 🙂
3. For non-smokers, yes. For smokers, I suppose not...
4. I get it. I wouldn't want to be in your shoes either.
5. I'm sorry to hear that. My circle is very considerate, so I don't have issues, but you have every right to complain. Isn't the law supposed to protect non-smokers? (I actually don't know much about American law...)
6. Where on earth did you read that? 😕
1. Before, I was just presenting theories, not sharing my actual, heartfelt opinion. 😉 As for the preaching—about passive smoking specifically—I am against anything involving cigarettes. 😁 (Even if my avatar suggests otherwise, that isn't tobacco, 😉 and my mention of the Popovich family was purely metaphorical, but that's beside the point.) 2. It's not really that interesting to me... 3. You're right. 4. Thanks for understanding. 5. You're lucky you don't live here; around here, laws only exist on paper. Though, truth be told, even on paper, the laws regarding this aren't very substantial. 😢 6. I gathered that from your posts. You wrote that only God or Mother Nature (depending on your perspective) can put those "pieces" together, but that one shouldn't rush the process. Ultimately, it all comes down to that, doesn't it? Whether someone smoked or not, it's just a matter of time... I don't agree with that at all. Or perhaps I misunderstood you; there's always that possibility. 🙂
darkbison81 finally got honest🙂 Let me be blunt: some of these theories are just total nonsense. They seem clever on the surface, but they’re incredibly shallow once you actually dig in. Smoke is smoke—it’s irritating, it stinks, and it’s toxic. I’m forced to breathe it in passively, and frankly, I don't enjoy it. But if I dare to say anything, I get shut down immediately because, apparently, I'm "harassing" smokers. 🙄 Americans, who are generally polite and considerate neighbors, actually care about the people around them. 🙄
Wait, so the conclusion of that previous post is that passive smoking barely has any impact at all? You have got to be kidding me with these theories...
Finally, some honest, straight-up thoughts 👍 and the truth 😉 If it weren't for rowdypilot96, I wouldn't have even bothered coming back to this thread I started in the first place. Not much else to say—some people will see how the pieces fit together, and others won't... but why should I, or anyone else, be the one to do the thinking for them? As for the rest of that garbage—the filth and the nastiness... just disgusting.
So, you're telling me that thousands of toxic chemical compounds in cigarette smoke are basically irrelevant just because some arbitrary "boxes" happen to check out? 😲
So, as someone who doesn't smoke, I’ve realized there's a pretty high statistical chance my friends, acquaintances, or even total strangers might just finish me off. Today is Quit Day... how are your smoking habits holding up?
The moment you see an .exe file attached to an email, it’s a huge red flag. Honestly, whether it’s actually malicious or just a mistake doesn't even matter—just delete 😉
Exactly, it'll just revert back to factory defaults. You aren't losing anything, unless you've overclocked your CPU—in which case, everything will just snap back to standard speeds. No big deal, it’ll still run just fine. 😉
As for the actual reset, check your motherboard manual if you have it handy. Most of the time, there's just a *jumper* 😁 to do the trick.
