Of course you're talking nonsense! When someone gets drunk and causes a wreck, they pay a fine because they broke the law; insurance covers the damages, there are lawsuits, court dates, and so on—basically, they are held accountable for their mess. But what do I get if I somehow profit from passive smoking? What recourse do I have if the smoke bothers me and my right to basic clean air isn't respected? What does a waiter get for health issues clearly linked to working in a smoky room? Or what happens to a smoker if they decide to light up wherever they please? Absolutely nothing 😢 I actually hope they implement a ban 🙂
Casey Palmer5 said:Do you honestly think a fine like that covers the cost of lifelong medical treatment and rehabilitation? You have people who use their drinking to mask their own misery, only to end up ruining the lives of everyone around them. That kind of fallout costs society far more than lung cancer ever will.
That’s exactly right, but it’s strictly prohibited. Those who go around doing it are breaking the law. bluewolf4 keeps trying to pivot back to smoking, arguing that we should implement the exact same kind of ban there... once again, making comparisons that have absolutely no basis in reality. But since he lacks any actual arguments to support his side, I suppose anything goes. 🙄
Do you really judge something as a copy based on just one similar scene? 👍
The whole concept of artificial intelligence isn't exactly groundbreaking; people have been fantasizing, writing about, and filming it forever. You can't just toss everything into the plagiarism basket because of one trope. In The Matrix, it’s merely a piece of the narrative, a single thread in the larger idea...
Alright, I definitely mixed up my facts regarding Blade Runner. 🙂
I watched Ghost in the Shell, and honestly, I don't see what was copied here, other than the general concept of an artificial intelligence gaining self-awareness. 😕
And while we're at it, someone please explain Blade Runner to me—what exactly was stolen or ripped off? What makes it a plagiarism?
Melissa Gonzalez9 - That’s the bottom line right there. Totally, 100%.
The issue isn't about making a profit; it's about an individual's fundamental right to freedom of choice. Is that really such a hard concept to grasp? If I decide I don't want to smoke cigarettes, I shouldn't be forced into passive smoking just because I'm in a certain space. FORCED—does that word carry enough weight for you? It's forced because someone else, who enjoys that same freedom of choice, decides they want to smoke, and suddenly everyone nearby is being compelled to inhale their smoke. In doing so, the non-smoker's basic rights are being violated. 🙄
By the way, a new Law went into effect in Sweden, and the Netherlands will follow suit on January 5th. 👍
Do me a favor and actually read some other posts; we’ve covered a massive amount of ground here. For someone who refuses to look past their own bubble and only sees what suits them, this whole debate is pretty much pointless. I honestly don't have the energy left to go back and forth with you. There is plenty of intelligent discourse already written right here. 🙂
So, what's next? The future, federal laws, or maybe just a backyard BBQ? The topic at hand remains: the smoking ban.
All you ever do is spout nonsense, which is pretty much world-class stuff... and just typical for someone like you. When you run out of actual arguments, you just start grasping at straws. 🙄
Here are a few more funny comparisons: atheism vs. religion, or smokers vs. non-smokers.🙂
And a pub or a lounge? That’s a cafe or a bistro. It’s not a "cigarette bar."😉 If there were places where you could smoke without bothering anyone—go ahead, smoke. I don't care. The problem is that those places don't actually exist in the real world, especially since people end up smoking in places where it's strictly prohibited anyway.
bluewolf4, Melissa Gonzalez9, everyone else... you guys are honestly hilarious 🙂 😂
The sheer amount of stretches and mental gymnastics you go through just to justify yourselves is unreal 😬
But hey, go ahead... enjoy yourselves. Smoke away. It’s not our problem anyway, since you're smoking for your own sake. Credit where it's due—everyone has their little vices, though some people eventually become slaves to what used to be a hobby. Freedom of choice? Sure, a smoker gets to choose whether or not to light up. A non-smoker gets to choose whether to put up with the smoker or walk away. Quite the heavy choice, isn't it? 👎
I actually welcome these new laws and can't wait to see them in action 👋
Honestly, there are so many intricate connections and overlapping themes woven through all three films that you won't even notice them at first glance. Even after one or two viewings, they stay hidden; to catch all the nuances, you really have to sit through the entire trilogy and then rewatch it all over again. I don't think any other series or film franchise has ever offered that kind of depth 🤔 . And that’s exactly where most people trip up: they watch superficially, without any real interest, and then complain that it isn't good. I’m not claiming it has to be everyone's favorite movie, but it’s unrealistic to expect the second and third installments to create the same massive impact as the first. You can't recreate that initial sense of shock—it just can't be done, at least not in that same way. Of course, I agree with a lot of people that they feel stretched out—every single one of them could probably be trimmed by thirty to sixty minutes without losing a shred of essential plot. But hey, if they were actually perfect, it wouldn't matter anyway; as they say, when you're looking for flaws, everything becomes an issue 😎 . Melissa Moore32, The Animatrix alone isn't enough; it just rounds out the story, providing context and filling in some of those narrative gaps left by the main films 🙂 .
Setting that aside, it’s a good movie—or a bad one, depending on how you look at it.
What really gets under my skin is reading posts where people act like they’re geniuses, when in reality, they haven't even grasped the plot. Maybe a few people caught half of it. But if I managed to wrap my head around the whole thing, it implies you don't need some massive IQ to get it.🙂
You just have to actually pay attention (unlike some people who sleep through half the runtime and then try to act all cool about it 🙂). My advice? Watch The Animatrix first, or at least watch it between the first and second films before moving on.🙄
As long as I’m paying off my registration in more than six installments—and having to add an extra one every year just because prices keep climbing—I’m not buying it
Exactly. That’s precisely why I think this methodology needs to be challenged. Instead of just looking at a single Big Mac, we should probably look at a basket of consumer goods. The price of a Big Mac stays relatively consistent across the board, whereas everything else fluctuates wildly. Why not try measuring something like how many gallons of gas you can get for an average salary? Or better yet, how many hours does the average person have to work just to afford a gallon of gas? Or something along those lines, I suppose. 🤔
