It’s hard to say for sure, though I wouldn't bet on it. On the other hand, since the mods haven't even been getting any formal reports lately, things might actually settle down faster than we expect. 😉
But it just won't work through Reddit. I’m positive the delete function used to be available here. However, you can always switch over to the web view to get it done.
I’ll migrate all of this over to the Help section tonight, and in the meantime, I'll post some screenshots there showing exactly how to handle deletions via the web view.
Here is the procedure for deleting a post using Reddit (specifically for iOS users, though the process on Android might vary slightly, it should still work)
Oh, come on, Amanda Hughes5, don't tell me that after ten years and nearly 10,000 posts you still haven't figured out how to delete a post when you mess something up.
Rules exist for a reason. When you ignore them or act like they don't apply, all you've got left is anarchy. If you want to play games with your identity, feel free to head over to some random Irish forum where you can swap nicknames every single day. Just drop the link here; I’m genuinely curious to see what kind of circus that site actually is. 😉
Clones are permitted—in specific circumstances like yours—but I am asking you to please notify either the administration (Nice) or the moderators of your primary subforum that this handle is being retired. We need to avoid any "surprises" where you end up getting banned for using two different accounts on the same threads.
That’s all there is to it. Let's not drag this out any further.
coastaltiger72 said:When I log onto Reddit using my desktop—with a solid antivirus running and no annoying ads in sight—I honestly don't even notice them. It’s seamless. But the second I switch over to my phone? It’s a total disaster. The ads just keep popping up everywhere; I can barely see the actual content through the clutter. And don't even get me started on how many times I've ended up picking up malware just by browsing here. Why haven't you guys fixed the ad settings so they actually stay static instead of constantly jumping out at you?
Oh, really? And what exactly do you consider "positions of power"? It seems to me you’re mixing up apples and oranges here. There is only one person holding any actual power, and that's the owner of this Reddit community. If he wanted to be petty, instead of fixing things, he could just set up rotating, flashing advertisements to run all night long. Maybe that's where his head is at, who knows. Personally, I have no idea, and frankly, neither does anyone else occupying those supposed "positions of power."
Those of us who spend every single day here know that the ads are the real issue, and we're all just trying to help other users find ways to deal with them. Whether the owner actually decides to do anything about it is entirely up to him.
On the flip side, some people act like the very individuals trying to assist them are their sworn enemies. "Just install AdBlock," we say. And they respond with, "No, because this and that, now make the site work exactly how I want or I'm leaving the forum!!1!" Give me a break. Honestly, what is there left to say when it's clear nothing is getting through to them?
Then you have people like you—someone who doesn't even see the ads, yet feels this irresistible urge to "improve" the site based on a vision of something they aren't even experiencing. Is it constructive? Not even remotely.
Since those who don't even bother watching the ads feel the need to comment on them, it’s obvious they won't be defending them to the people who actually enjoy them. 😁
If the owner of this Reddit doesn't seem concerned about us telling people how to navigate the site, then why are you making such a fuss about it? You're just obsessing over the same "what if this happens" scenarios again. Use AdBlock if you want to, or don't—it’s entirely up to you. This advice is strictly for those who actually care about getting rid of ads. Nobody is forcing anyone to do anything here.
The App Store is absolutely flooded with ad blockers. Just hunt down one that won't drain your bank account. Here are a few suggestions. Alternatively, why bother? Just switch to a browser with native blocking built right in—something like Brave, or if you want to follow the advice in that article above, try a Google Chrome focus or some other third-party option.
Or, if you want to keep things dead simple: just stick to Reddit.
There is a workaround available. If you're too stubborn to use it, then feel free to sit around waiting for a patch to be released. As for when that actually happens? God only knows.
