Pesic said:The dubbing is synced up on my end, sounds kind of "European," but who knows if it actually hits the mark...
Damned Germans and their dubbing. :2up:

And I can't stand Tom Hanks. Honestly, the guy is just unbearable. He’s got nothing going for him—not the look, not the charm, none of it. Just some slimy, greasy dude who ruins every movie he’s in.
Except for one: Forrest Gump. 😁 He actually put his soul into that one. 😁

Pesic, man, you just read my mind. Seeing your comment made my day because it's exactly how I feel! Every time I see TrollaHanks on screen, I think the same thing. The guy is an embarrassment to acting and the big screen. He ruins the whole vibe of every flick, except for Forrest Gump, mostly because his idiot face actually fits that specific script. He must have Steven Spielberg wrapped around his finger with some blackmail involving tapes of their gay orgies or something. Screw filmmaking!👎

Trash, kitsch, or just straight-up garbage?
Trash, kitsch, or just plain old junk!

I don't have the mental bandwidth to find "hidden gems"
in this kind of mindless crap.

Thanks, but—no thanks.👎

spin doctors, man... my throat's getting dry from all this sssssss
(my brain goes straight to: hush-hush darling, or those Little China girls—she says, sssssshhhhhhh)

and honestly, a little kissing (maybe hugging, who knows 😢) might actually help. 👍

Let's skip the preamble this time. Let's just dive straight into the meat of it. We're talking about the teaser, the trailer, whatever you want to call it—but let's be real, it isn't an actual preview. It’s just a bait-and-switch. If you get lucky, maybe there's more to the movie than those three decent shots they flashed in the trailer.

So yeah... better off skipping it.

Man, you really are a trailer spammer! Go on then, go Johnny, go...
I dig people who play games. It’s common knowledge that the easiest way to mess with someone is to poke at exactly what gets under their skin (what's the saying, Freddy nightmares and all?)

But damn, are we all just wound up today?!
I'd honestly rather just wander around downtown, maybe run into a cute girl or something, find a cheap motel... whatever. Enjoy yourself!

If we have to go with some foreign loanword, fine, let's just use "trailer." But this local version? It sounds like something a bunch of old-timers would grunt while hiding out in the Midwest. It’s an ugly word, even if it's become part of the slang—just like how we say "sports" or "screwdriver." Honestly? Gross.

nah, not that one. I mean Tess of the d'Urbervilles (Thomas Hardy, Roman Polanski)

goldberry said:random thought—there was actually an attempt once to push "prelude" as the official American word for a movie trailer.

I mean, what’s wrong with just calling it a "teaser"? It's not like there isn't a perfect way to say it; we just have this weird obsession with using foreign loanwords.
The word "trailer"... anyone else feel like it's just dragging on forever?
Usually, you see "trailer" used in finance apps or messaging too,
where it acts like a "tag" or a label to track a transaction or a message history... so everything just gets stretched out, trailing behind like a long tail.

So yeah, "trailer" works fine if you're talking about a little clip next to an ad on some website,
but personally? The term just grates on my nerves.

Spare some for me too.😁

Look, in English, a "trailer" is just a preview, but a "trailer park" is that pathetic little slum where people live in those mobile homes. Amy Gomez36—who's probably a lit major or studying comparative literature or whatever—decided to leave "trailer" untranslated because it's common enough in American English. Fine. But would it actually kill anyone to just say "movie preview"?

Anyway, my little story above... the trailer... it's about Mel Gibson in Die Hard—wait, no, I think it was the second one—where Mel Gibson lives in a trailer by the beach, bringing in a woman (Renée Zellweger), doing a little thing there...

So then I take that mediocre movie, swap out the lead actress, ditch the shootout and those South African smugglers, bring in a soft romantic lead, and shoot a sweet little romance on a lonely beach... all in a trailer.

But the point remains. The message, the ad, the teaser, the whole vibe of the trailer... I covered it. Isn't that what a trailer is supposed to do? Just give you crumbs?

Get it now, buddy?😁
New Trailers in Movies ·
I see this trailer as a little beach shack on some deserted coast, maybe with a bed and a fridge. It’s not like Mel Gibson or Renée Zellweger need to wander in, though I wouldn't mind hosting Nicole Kidman, Drew Barrymore, or Mira Sorvino...

but, if they're ever gonna track down my little setup—since they clearly have no clue how wealthy and interesting I actually am—I need bait. A commercial. Even if it's a bit gross, just with a tiny hint of actual substance for the real connoisseurs and experts,
targeting women... that's why I need to leave breadcrumbs through the trailer parks, little hints or clues that there's real content hidden inside this flashy wrapper that matters for both of us.

makes sense? I hope so.

if I could actually figure out how to use that recipe myself, I'd be cooking up a feast instead of just scraps.👎
so, don't ask me, I'm as lost as you are.

I met her... in a biblical sense. Twice. But even now, that melancholy smile of hers haunts me. Nasty Nastia, where are you, love?

And the movie? Honestly, it blows Chasing the Wind!

Look, pick one from the window on me. My treat.
Honestly, looking at Linda Fiorentino, I’d be shouting "Jesus!" any second now.😁

Douglas Edwards2 said:hey .. 🙂 🙂 but you're tripping, amigo .. Linda is just a distant relative of Jesus, not God 😎

Now you're really getting on my nerves: this is exactly why I can't stand Mel's Passion, but I dig something like The Last Seduction, where a guy actually gets to marry, hook up, and have kids (check out how gorgeous she is, like Linda Fiorentino, not Lovelace😁 )

I know who's who in Dogma, but you won't find anyone better than Alanis, even if it has to be sexless, comprende?

But man, I'd take Jesus's relative any day. Ugh.

Buddy, listen
I feel your pain on this one 😬 😬 😬
but before she went and got that breast augmentation and ruined them forever
and after Jack Nicholson—man, I am not a fan, dude!

Seriously, think about it again 😁

...if I watched Dogma five times, it’d probably just keep getting better every single time. The facial expressions, the hair, the irony, the constant self-deprecation—it's all there in those subtle and loud jokes.

Personally, Chasing Amy is my top pick, but Dogma is seriously good too.

The casting is spot on. You've got Ben Affleck playing the idiot perfectly, leaning right into the shooting and the endless talk about sex.

Alan Rickman is just cool, and that guy falling from the sky who some other version of Jesus owes money to? Pure comedic gold.

Having Alanis Morissette play God is a vibe. If there actually is a God out there, I hope she's female and as cool as Alanis.

But honestly, the absolute best part of the whole movie is the divine, sexy voice and those small breasts—the incredibly sultry and brilliant Linda Fiorentino.

Anyone who's seen Jade or The Last Seduction knows exactly what I'm talking about. Ugh!
I, Robot in Movies ·
Seriously, Will, you're in the "bible" of robot noir? They completely butchered Asimov's work. Fingers crossed Smith actually plays a robot though.👎

Man, I'd pay to see Sharon Stone playing some robot shrink in a flick where she has to figure out which "glitched" robot can actually read minds!
The Running Man (1987) in Movies ·
First off, I’m not even sure if "The Running Man" is the right title for this movie.
If it were up to me, I’d call it something like "The Fugitive" or "Human Prey."

See, those "running men" aren't actually out for a jog or competing in some race; they're just sprinting for their lives from assassins while the state-run TV networks broadcast the whole thing like some twisted reality show.

The acting? Absolute garbage. The "heroes" chasing him are basically caricatures, but the actual concept and plot are pretty gripping. I can already see a society like this taking shape, even here in the States. Sure, our reality shows don't hunt people for sport yet, but the mindless masses are always hungry for blood and live coverage of the carnage.

Just look at all those so-called "wrestling" stars. In the US, just like in the movie, they're nothing but clowns and caricatures wearing ridiculous masks. Same goes for the UFC crowd—just guys hitting each other for views. Meanwhile, the real "heroes" are national icons like M. Filipović, or worse, congressmen, senators, and governors...

The more pathetic, unfree, and totalitarian a society becomes, the more "bread and circuses" takes center stage. Nowadays, we might not be throwing Christians to the lions, but we find plenty of ways to exploit hungry kids in Africa, Palestinian civilians, or Iraqis and Arabs in general.

In America, the whole reality show lifestyle is still finding its footing. For now, people are playing for stakes like jobs, apartments, cars, or a shot at being a singer or host—maybe even a trip to Egypt (which is cheap right now, mostly because it's dangerous for Westerners).

But honestly, the best part of "The Running Man" is how it perfectly parodies everything. You've got Maria Conchita Alonso playing an American, a Mexican woman who, after a hundred
B-movies, still hasn't managed to shake that thick accent, paired with her Schwarzenegger counterpart, that famously clumsy guy.

Watching the two of them try to "act" and trade lines was pure comedy gold! 👍

Alright, cowboys, rangers, and whatever other little boys are out there (is that ranger guy being subtle or just being an idiot?)

Let's go. Let's play with some Native Americans—why are you guys even bothering here?
With some cheesy medieval romance movie... zero action to be found here.
mistyfox812 said:Law is a movie, but I saw it ages ago, so my memory's fuzzy. Personally, I dig "post-western" more than "anti-western." It feels better—like you can play with parts of the myth without being chained down by the rules of a "real" western.

Look, old-school westerns starring someone like John Wayne are total bullshit to me (could be gay too, if you believe Richard Hernandez13, thanks!). The whole thing is built on mystification and glorification—sugarcoating a brutal reality of lawlessness, killings, kidnappings, shootouts, and just plain filth.

In those old westerns, everyone’s cool, the lead is a hero instead of a killer, and the Wild West looks damn attractive...

That's why I think "anti-western" is a great term. It’s everything else: the opposite, the rejection of rose-colored glasses, the raw reality, the misery and poverty (which is great when you're talking about murder, land theft, or massacres, right?). In an anti-western like Unforgiven or my favorite, McCabe & Mrs. Miller, you get the grit. It describes the era, the conditions, and characters you might love or hate, but you see them in a real human light, stripped of the masks and the glory.

Richard Hernandez13, now that I think about it, considering how many dictators throughout history have loved the western, there’s probably a ton of homoeroticism in there—dominance, all those gun/penis associations, the obsession with weapons, killing, and seizing territory.
