One more thing, specifically for you, Ashley Watson.
It really grates on me when people go overboard demonizing smokers the way you do.
Ditch the drama... by any reasonable definition, secondhand smoke means spending your day sitting in a cloud of it—like in a bar or a club—not getting hit by a puff of smoke while walking down the street, for God's sake.
Enough with this whole attitude that smokers are somehow villains out to destroy your innocent lungs.
Regarding this idea about people actually paying fines... nobody is ever going to pay $167 for smoking being allowed. They’d rather just go to jail or take on community service. Prisons are already overflowing with traffic violators anyway, so if we actually enforced a ban, the whole system would collapse. From what I hear, there are already 80,000 people waiting to serve time for some minor or slightly less minor offenses. Now, take that number and multiply it by five, and you have an idea of how many people will be lighting up at clubs or bars over the weekend and getting caught. Honestly, there wouldn't be room in the jails for a single offender except for smokers (LOL?). Then everyone would just be racing through the streets, and road fatalities would spike because they know they won't face jail time for another ten years.
Smoking gives me pleasure. So, when you claim it brings nothing to the table, personally, it brings plenty to me—and that's something that should be respected.
In the bars and clubs... do you even realize how many coffee shops there are in a city like Chicago? You simply cannot regulate that legally. You would need hundreds of thousands of honest cops just to collect the fines (see above 😁). That is never going to happen here, and even if it did, it would just be a dead letter on a piece of paper.
As for the segregation issue, it isn't my fault that the law is poorly drafted and failed to account for it... If they actually introduced regulations regarding that, people wouldn't just be a meter apart; they'd be separated by glass walls and things like that. It isn't my fault the legislature doesn't know how to do its job. 🙂 :
The conclusion is that you first need about 10+ years of spreading a non-smoking culture, and then you pass a law similar to what those other countries have done.
Nothing happens overnight here. That's just how it works in America.
Hold on, why does it have to be every single public space?
Look, I’m not out here poisoning anyone just because I light up on the street, in a park, or whatever.
I don't agree with an outright ban... I'm more in favor of segregation.
At offices, restaurants, and places like that—fine, a total ban makes sense.
But in America, there are way too many smokers for it to be illegal to smoke in bars or clubs. I get it, you non-smokers think the smoke is bothering you, that we're poisoning you, but you need to show some respect for us by, well, providing designated smoking areas at work and such.
Now you guys want to ban smoking everywhere... it's overkill. Bans never actually solve anything. Making comparisons to countries like Ireland or the USA isn't even fair, because they actually have functioning states, whereas over here, everyone would be smoking regardless of whether there was a ban or not.
Look, my job is one of those roles where someone always has to be on-site, so I actually don't mind coming in during Easter, Christmas, or any other holidays... I couldn't care less about the time off, and honestly, the overtime pay is much better.
So, yeah, your theory doesn't really hold water here.
It’s just like everything else... this is nothing short of blatant discrimination against us atheists and agnostics. It's honestly absurd. Does a person really have to mourn the death of the Pope? The last few days have been exhausting. Every thirty minutes it's the same news cycle on loop. No movies playing, the local AMC Theatres are all shut down... One word: terrible.
Johnson & Johnson actually did the trick for me. It wasn't some miracle cure or anything, but I definitely noticed a difference. The catch is you have to stay consistent. You can't just stop using it for a month and expect things to stay fine. Diet matters too, obviously. But that’s a personal thing... if certain foods trigger breakouts, then just don't eat them. Simple as that. Hope that helps.
Solid movie. Watching it, you're just riding this rollercoaster of emotions, swinging from pure joy to total heartbreak. That ending, though... it really hits you where it hurts. It’s a heavy way to wrap things up... It’s an excellent choice if you're looking to impress someone on a date... or maybe just show off a little to your significant other.
So, I just walked out of the theater yesterday, and honestly? The movie was actually pretty solid. It wasn’t overhyped, the pacing felt smooth, and they didn't rely on cheap special effects... just really high-quality production. I’d almost be brave enough to call it a piece of art, though I’m still scratching my head at how it even fits into the horror genre... but hey, let's not split hairs.
Look, I have zero interest in changing who I am. Maybe this lack of confidence is a flaw, or maybe it’s actually an asset... because most people out there are just drowning in ego. They walk around with their heads too high and their vision way too narrow. Personally, I’m more of the type to sit back in the corner and observe everything. Right now, that works for me.
I’m just not the kind of person who forces myself onto others. It feels cheap to me. Even though I know if I acted like a loudmouth at my university classes, I’d probably get much further... but I won't. You guys can go ahead and lose it, thanks for nothing, goodbye. That applies to everything. The one thing I will fight for is my opinion. Sometimes I take it too far, especially when I'm grabbing a quick bite at 😁, even if I turn out to be dead wrong.
I’ve always struggled with confidence. It’s just how I am, honestly. Especially when it comes to dating... I’m the kind of guy who needs a woman to practically slap the life into me just to get a shot at her. Look, I get it. Being confident would definitely be better than being this way. But you can't just rewrite your own DNA, and frankly, I don't even want to try. You want to? Or you don't? You don't have to...
I just finished reading through this thread for the first time and noticed this one quote—doesn't really matter who said it:
If we legalize cannabis, we'll end up in a situation where every sixteen-year-old is smoking weed like it's cigarettes... after a year or two they'll get bored and start looking for something harder, and before you know it, they've moved on to meth and it's goodbye!
This logic is flawed by default because over in nowhere, marijuana has been legal for a long time and it's proven that very few people transition to harder drugs afterward. In other words, it isn't the cause. I see people here absolutely attacking Mary and judging her as the root cause of future psychoses. Here is a banal example from my own head: We all know stress is the biggest killer out there, and stress actually decreases with marijuana use. So those potential psychoses and schizophrenias... I mean, if those articles say 6 percent, that means out of 2,500 people tested there, maybe 150 will develop psychosis because they smoked. If they had tested 2,500 coffee consumers, they would have found that 5 percent would develop some kind of mental illness before even touching a substance. I'm not saying it isn't a drug, nor am I saying it's healthy, but it isn't any more harmful than anything else. It's certainly healthier to stay home and smoke than to go for a jog in Los Angeles dealing with all that pollution. Personally, I've been using cannabis and its derivatives for years, and occasionally I'll even do something stronger *rarely, and I'm fine. I am a normal person and I'll stay that way. 100%. Besides, throughout history, artists have used various drugs to find their inspiration. Picasso, Baudelaire, not to mention modern art and its connection to cocaine. We should be addressing that instead of some liquid nonsense being thrown around...
Looks like I’ve finally nailed it... Is this actually what it is? It starts with these white, watery bumps that eventually crack open, then the skin just starts peeling away and feels incredibly dry. I have a tiny bit between my fingers. I'm wondering how far this thing spreads and which specific type I'm dealing with...
So, I’ve been smoking for five years now, and honestly, I’m a genuine fan of the smoke in all its shapes and colors. But the nicotine... that’s where the real trouble starts. If I don't light up, it feels like a literal piece of my lungs is missing... just a horrific sensation... and the only thing I can do is light up 🙂. I haven't found a way out of this yet, and trying to cut back with those "ultra" versions or anything similar is just a joke, because then I just end up inhaling more of those lightweight ones. It’s brutal, especially since they say nicotine addiction is nearly on par with heroin.... And those patches and gums? Total garbage. Why would anyone want more nicotine? Smoking is a passion, even if I know damn well it's going to leave its mark on me. I'm aware of the consequences. Dammit. I’ll quit, NO, because I simply can't.
You people are absolute idiots if you think this is bad. Honestly, this is the best thing hitting theaters right now if you're looking for a solid date night. It’s not some cinematic masterpiece, but it definitely demands your attention... You can tell me I'm wrong and that I didn't enjoy it, but I'm a total sci-fi and horror freak, though I'll watch just about anything. I know what I'm talking about.
The best kind of critic is when you grab a little notepad and sketch out some stylized character on all 200 pages, just watching him walk right into the path of an oncoming car. That’s where the real wit is... plus, you get to express yourself artistically.
