Dealing with hemorrhoids – any advice? in Health ·
Anyone got a recommendation for a doctor for a proctology exam and proctoscopy?

I've been digging through old threads and saw people recommending a certain doctor over at Sunce Clinic, but those posts are ancient, so I have no clue if he's even still there...

Please, I need a lead; this is urgent!
The pediatrician sent my baby (9 months old, full term, had 1-2 feedings) in for some routine blood work.
Here are the results (I'm a bit worried, so I'm looking for an interpretation):

erythrocyte 4.73 (4.00-5.00)
hemoglobin 103 (109-138) L
hematocrit 0.311 (0.320-0.404) L
MCV 65.9 (73.8-89.4) L
MCH 21.7 (24.3-29.2) L
MCHC 329 (300-350)
leukocyte high ref interval 0 4.3 (6.0-16.0) L
neutrophil seg. 17 (23-66) L
neutrophil unseg. 0.0 (0.0-3.0)
eosinophil 4.0 (0.0-6.0)
basophil 0.0 (0.0-2.0)
lymphocytes 74 (18 - 60.0) H
reactive lymphocytes 1.0
monocytes 4.0 (5.0 - 13.0) L
morphology changes E: 2+ microcytosis, E: 3+ hypochromia
platelets 283 (150-450)

Thanks in advance!

Not sure if it matters, but she had a virus about a week before the blood draw that lasted about 10 days...

Anyone got a solid dermatologist recommendation? Preferably someone covered by Medicare.

But I was wondering how common this actually is. I haven't really heard stories about women getting pregnant that way, even if I know it happens.
So, you actually got pregnant like that? Guess it's possible after all 😁
Maybe for me too

My period still hasn't shown up, but I read this: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_are_t...atory_fluid%27 and figured out that pre-cum doesn't have sperm in it unless there was already some on the penis (like using a condom first, then going bareback). In my case, that wasn't what happened, so I don't think there's any chance I'm pregnant.
There. Maybe that link helps someone else. 🙂

I don't know about everyone else here, but I'm certain there are others out there... Just give it a few more days, and if your period doesn't arrive, go ahead and take the test.

I'll take one. I'm running a little late.

Hey ladies
Not sure where else to drop this, so I'll just throw it out here. 🙂
My period is late, so if it doesn't show up soon, I'm grabbing a test; but I’ve got a question (mostly because I'd rather win the Powerball than deal with this right now 😁)... how many of you ended up pregnant while using the "pull out" method? Lately, my guy and I have been doing that—usually pulling out right before putting on a condom... I'm curious about the actual math behind it (since theoretical probability is a thing) and whether I'm actually in trouble. I feel like I read somewhere that the odds of getting pregnant this way are pretty slim.
Anyway. If there's a better thread for this kind of stuff, let me know. 🙂
Nonverbal communication tips? in Psychology ·
Hey everyone. Just wanted to brag a bit. I finally turned in my senior thesis and the professor told me it was one of the best papers she’s ever graded. 😎 😎

Anyway, diving into nonverbal communication research taught me a ton and helped me find some killer sources. If anyone actually wants to geek out on this topic, hit me up—I'm officially a "genius" now. Or at least a little bit smarter. 😁

Isn't it kind of wild how we all just communicate through text here? Back when the internet first kicked off, it was nothing but raw words, but it still felt like there was this massive void... so people just invented emoticons. 🙂 Then came the endless flood of emojis. 🥳

Was something actually missing? 😁

thanks for all the input!

I've actually been mulling over some of the points you guys made.

It really all comes down to context. The exact same gesture can mean something totally different depending on the situation.

Nonverbal cues matter big time, but again, context is king. Like, if someone tells you "I love you" while staring blankly at the TV, that famous 7% rule definitely applies. (Or maybe even less? 😁) If the vibe isn't there, the words don't mean squat, right?

The link I posted earlier shows the flip side—where the actual words carry all the weight regardless of the setting. Here it is again: http://www.cob.sjsu.edu/oestreich_h/...%20Article.doc
"Imagine for a moment you are sitting at the negotiating table with Slobodan Maddox, discussing the future of Mexico. You say in the most soothing tone of voice and the most charming smile on your face that your country favors independence for Mexico. It’s no accident. You said “independence,” not “autonomy.” In the vocabulary of any diplomat that means you want Mexico to be a country separate from America. The impact of that single word “independence” is devastating, no matter what tone of voice, facial expression or gestures you used when you said it. You have just closed the door to further negotiations on the subject."

Bottom line: body language and tone work alongside the words to complete the picture.

rowdyridge59 said:As far as I know, that 7% thing is still a thing, though I'm not sure how they actually pulled those experimental numbers together. You'd have to double-check.

That data comes from Albert Mehrabian back in the 60s. That link I shared breaks down the experiment perfectly...

Oops, looks like that theory is starting to fall apart 😲 😲

now my whole concept is totally messed up 😁

any psychologists or psych students hanging out here? 😢

I need a solid fact, something actually recognized in the field. My professor gave me the version I have, but it feels outdated—like everyone’s realized it's just not how it works anymore. 🙄

Thanks for the link, Mad Scientist. I'll check it out.

From what I’ve read in books and seen online, here’s the breakdown:

words: 7%
tone of voice: 38%
body language: 55%

so non-verbal communication makes up 93% of the deal. 🙂

Pretty wild stat if you ask me. 😲

Yeah, total web of lies, obviously. 😁

Oops, slip of the pen! 😳

The spoken stuff—you know, actual words out loud—only accounts for about 7%.

My data shows it’s at 7%😎

Working on my senior thesis about this and I’m running pretty low on sources...
Anyone got a link or a book recommendation... or is everyone just planning to wing it? 🙂
Everything came through perfectly! 😉 🙂 🙂

Meningococcal sepsis in Health ·
From ExxonMobil:
She pointed out that we're looking at the peak stage of epidemic meningitis, what doctors call meningococcal sepsis.

Why even call it epidemic meningitis if:
Scott Allen10 said:This isn't some kind of epidemic. Like someone already said, people die every single day from all sorts of stuff. This is just getting media hype.
The meningokok itself just sits in your nasopharynx and does nothing. Even if it manages to slip through the lining into your system, there's a good chance it won't cause any trouble because your immune system will just "kill" it and get rid of it. Just like how it wipes out random pathogens every day to keep us healthy.

nimbleskipper13 said:The progression of this disease is just brutal... from those vague early symptoms to full-blown sepsis, it happens incredibly fast. With little kids, you see general diarrhea, high fever, sudden decline, and dehydration—basically, it looks like any other childhood infection, from a common virus to mumps. No doctor is going to jump to a primary diagnosis in a small child unless they've already heard reports of a meningococcal outbreak in the area, and even then, they usually won't confirm meningitis until advanced neurological symptoms kick in and the spinal fluid tests come back positive for cocci...

Nah, easy to just point fingers at the doctor, right? 😈

They aren't, unfortunately. Most diseases are treatable or curable if caught...

nimbleskipper13, I'm trying to send you a PM, but your inbox is totally maxed out...
