MLS 2022/23 Season: Part 2 in Soccer ·
Gary Cooper3 said:Regarding who I’d prefer to see heading to Europe—and conversely, who I hope stays grounded:

I suppose if I'm being honest, I'd rather see the guys from Šibenik stay put... primarily because I'm certainly no enthusiast for seeing the big city clubs cluttering up the top flight—but, one can always dream they lose next weekend and somehow scrape together enough points to secure their survival in the final round by whatever means necessary... though that seems optimistic.

As for Rijeka—I definitely want them out in Europe, especially with Jakirović at the helm.
I'd take Varaždin over Slaven any day, but it looks to me like Slaven might actually have a decent shot at it if that whole situation involving the Hajduk supporters goes their way this Wednesday.
Lokomotiva? No... they'll just sell off every ticket they have.
And Osijek—well, I don't think they're going to make it to Europe, and personally, I have very little desire to see them playing there again anytime soon...

If Slaven actually pulls it off—though I wouldn't bet on it—he’s got to win the whole thing. Just taking second in the Cup won't cut it for European qualification, especially since Šibenik doesn't have a shot at Europe anyway.

Slaven has only managed to beat Šibenik once in their last ten matchups.

boldbadger1 said:And honestly, they might even be looking at fourth if the team pulls off a Cup win.

And Šibenik too.

Fourth place won't get them into Europe unless Belupo grabs the Cup (and somehow avoids finishing in the top 3, which isn't impossible).

The craziest part is they’re still sitting in third place. They had plenty of chances to move up, but they kept choking in the final minutes—just like how they let that win slip away against Slaven on Friday.

They were absolute garbage during the third quarter of the season. Looks like they’re just cruising at that same pathetic pace through the finish line.

Gorica is sitting at -4 on the live scoreboard against Sibu. They’ve got an inter-conference matchup coming up next round. If things stay this way and Rijeka pulls a win over Sibu, Gorica's path opens right up.
Joseph Clark37 said:They permanently banned him too, so I guess nobody can even bother to reply. He basically walked right into a trap trying to argue with those "I'm not saying it's okay, but..." types. One day, I'll probably end up with a permanent ban myself... 🥱

Anthony Jackson2 was only wrong about this guy in one way: he put up with him for way too long. His outbursts, especially on the MLS threads, crossed the line ages ago.

Adam Williams2 said:and look how prices move I mean, some things are okay, while others have gone through the roof. But mostly, the stuff that's affordable is pretty far from the coast. Since I work right by the ocean, I think it would be kind of tough driving 30 or 40 minutes in bad weather after a night shift. 😁

Plus, my wife won't even consider anything too far away. She wants the nearby hills, but only if we can still see the water. And if you want a view, you pay a premium for it, which feels like a bit of a vicious cycle. I guess I’d love it all—a three-bedroom house with a decent yard where the dogs can run, she can garden, and I can escape to go fishing. But honestly, between the pandemic and this damn war, things definitely aren't helping my dreams. 😁

You're from the river city, right?

My family sold our house in the river city quite a long time ago—maybe $60,000, even though they wanted $90,000. If it were near the coast, it probably would have been worth $250,000. That's just how life goes, I guess. 😁

Yeah, about 7 or 8 years ago in a coastal town, you could get a place right by the beach for $3k per square foot, maybe three minutes from the water for $2k. I don't even want to imagine what those prices look like now.🤣

But the whole thing is designed to sell. Everything gets flipped here before they even break ground on the first foundation. Even with these insane prices. And that government housing program really did its job driving costs up; it’s not just the cost of materials.

I got lucky and jumped into real estate about two years ago—caught the last train before prices went absolutely insane. I actually owned a plot of land that shot up by $200k in just a few months. To give you an idea, back then, new builds in cities like Chicago were going for maybe $150 per square foot, and now you can't find anything under $250. It’s definitely not the time to be buying unless your finances are rock solid. I’m probably not smart enough to predict if or when this bubble finally pops, though. Maybe someone here actually knows what they're talking about and can give us a real estimate? 🤷

Just speaking as a layman watching how things are moving, I have a gut feeling prices might even creep up a bit more over the next year or two before finally leveling off.

It’s that weird dynamic where you support a convicted organization running the country, while also cheering for the one lunatic who publicly opposes them whenever it suits him. It's actually the perfect setup for Zack—he probably feels safest playing it this way.

Just a quick side note: I’ve absolutely hated the phrase "regulatory agency" over the last year. Honestly, it makes my skin crawl every time I hear 😁

I haven't personally bought one since maybe 2010, because my company usually offers me a new model every couple of years if I want one. Even with entry-level jobs these days, they seem to hand out work phones with data plans included.

You're dead wrong. 😁

Paul Martinez73 said:If you want a job in government, 99% of the time you basically have to be a member of a political party. Take the Democratic-Republican coalition in Washington, D.C., for example... if you're actually part of one of those parties, do you honestly think you still have a conscience?
The only thing driving you is the dream of getting a cushy, unearned position.

I know this guy who used to be a teacher at a local school; he mostly just messed around and didn't do a lick of actual work. Eventually, he got fired. He wasn't exactly struggling for cash back then, but he was getting by.
Once he couldn't find anything else in his field, he decided to head over to Germany.
He’s working there now and making twice what he made as a teacher, but damn, he has to spend all day on his feet. He spends half his time trash-talking Germany like everything there is wrong and everyone is to blame, yet here he is, living a perfectly normal life.

Why? Because you have to work, I guess. But he’s constantly looking for a way to crawl back into some cozy government role where he can do nothing and just scrape by—he'd take half the pay just to avoid being on his feet all day. It's the same vibe with the crew at JU; they just want to do zero work and call it a day. They effectively put in two hours a day and don't even care that their offices are tiny.

And people like that are the ones teaching our kids today.

That guy is actually a product of a rotten system. Hardly anyone in America has any real motivation to go into education just to work in a public school. In the West, you usually see the top students enrolling in those programs, but here, it’s mostly average people. Personally, I know some who can barely handle basic grammar, yet they’re studying education or preschool training. And damn, one day they’ll be teaching your child, heavily influencing their upbringing and how they grow as a person—all while navigating an educational system that is outdated and decaying. So, as the years pass, nothing changes; whenever someone actually tries to fix things, it gets smothered immediately.
Paul Martinez73 said:I think we can all agree that even a year ago, the quality of posts and discussions here was twice what it is now. I’m not trying to be a contrarian, but when someone starts using their past reputation as a shield just to justify writing like that Overlord guy who still won't shut up... claiming he was "just being ironic" while actually just nuking every single debate in sight.
Constantly replying with the same tired questions and turning every discussion into an exhausting slog with certain people just kills the drive to participate.
But hey, maybe it's just me...

And look, you aren't immune to those kinds of posts either—you end up hitting back with some one-liner, which just drags out a pointless argument that you already know is going nowhere. Thank God there's always someone else to jump on those posts, which is how the chaos starts.

That said, I completely agree with everyone else; management did a lousy job, and it's clearly affecting the rest of the forum.

dustycrane2 said:I'm trying to stay cool and professionally ask the mods to step in, but people keep breaking the rules and insulting me in the most low-class ways imaginable. It's getting harder to keep my head. I’m reaching a point where I might actually snap back, and I refuse to be the one getting banned just because they can't act like adults.

Admin, I need some answers to these questions. Let's start with the most recent example.

Some guy on the forum called me an idiot and got slapped with a measly 25 penalty points. Can someone explain which rule makes calling participants idiots punishable by such a joke of a sanction? If that isn't considered a blatant, primitive insult that warrants a serious crackdown, I honestly have nothing left to say.

I can't believe people still fall for this stuff. It's honestly embarrassing.

Given your track record on this forum, it’s a bit awkward seeing you play the victim here. That user already caught a warning for the post in question, plus an earlier strike and a few deleted posts. If he keeps this up, he’ll face a heavier ban, but he actually cooled off after those first two strikes. We aren't looking to ban people for their first mistake—especially on sports threads where fans tend to get carried away. That said, any personal insults get an immediate yellow card, which is exactly what happened here.

Look, everything you post about the UFC is loaded with political and religious baggage. If we actually stick to the rules here, you wouldn't even be allowed in this thread anymore.

Examples:

Khalid B. Velid Olivia Taylor2 said:You don't hate Islamic terrorists; you just hate Muslims. Where’s the proof that Khabib supports terrorists? If there were even a single suspicious thing in his background, he wouldn't be able to get an American visa. Being Muslim doesn't matter—if you have even the slightest hint of anything related to terrorism on your record, you aren't getting into the US.
Look, when you step back and look at the big picture, it’s obvious you’re just fueled by this deep-seated hatred for Muslims. It's honestly pathetic. May God have mercy on your soul.

Khalid B. Velid Olivia Taylor2 said:Conor is basically Al Qaeda at this point, given everything he’s pulled in his career—from attacking a bus full of his own teammates to lunging at a referee in the cage. He’s just pure hatred mixed with hypocrisy. A lethal combination. 🤦

Anyway, the guy already laid it all out in that other thread.

"Islamophobes, bigots, hypocrites, just a bunch of hateful losers," those were your exact words.

The game organization was a total mess. I guess the home team didn't expect such high ticket sales, so they made this stupid move. If they already set aside those 200 or 300 tickets for the Bad Boys, they could have just put them on the opposite side of the stands where there’s plenty of room. Instead, they put the "home" fans there, tucked the Bad Boys to the right, and left the middle seating area completely empty. 🤣

Well deserved, even if Lloris hadn't messed up on that second goal.

Gerald Carter53 said:You think they hand out awards based solely on stats?

Of course it’s not just about the numbers. But you really think stats aren't part of the equation?
Especially when the guy actually has a better save percentage and way more saves than anyone else.

Just a few more minutes until we see what they decide. Personally, I don't think Lloris deserves an award after a blunder like that in the final.

dustypanther6 said:Was the odds at 25?

Yeah, before the third-place match started it was at 15, then it dropped to 15 after the game, and now Pickford has climbed back up to 25. Honestly, I have no clue why his odds were ever lower than Courtois's to begin with.

Also, Ochoa just took the lead in total saves, making him number one there. By save percentage, he’s actually beating out both Lloris and Subasic (82% vs Lloris at 73.3% and Subasic at 75%).

I don't even see Pickford as a contender anymore, especially since some Englishman is bound to take the award, and unless something crazy happens tomorrow, Kane is walking away with the Golden Boot.
Soccer Betting Tips & Discussion in Betting Forum ·
I know the match is kicking off soon, but I think there’s serious value in betting on Thibaut Courtois for the Golden Glove at 25. Since they started handing it out in 1994, it's only been awarded six times—and twice, it went to a keeper whose team didn't even win the Super Bowl. Back in '94, it was Michel Preud'homme (Belgium didn't even make the top four then), and in 2002, it was Oliver Kahn.

Courtois has 22 saves, while Hugo Lloris has 11 and Danijel Subašić has 12. Jordan Pickford is in the mix too, but I doubt he takes it if the Americans lose today. Right now, Courtois is second in total saves, trailing only Guillermo Ochoa by just a couple or three. If Thibaut pulls off some big plays against England, he could easily take the lead for most saves in the tournament.

Thomas Cook54 said:I totally blanked on the rules for betting on the top scorer. If there's a tie for the most goals, does everyone who picked one of them actually win?

jadewolf16 said:I don't know why we bother. It’s always the same story around here—total incompetence and zero accountability. Just more of the same nonsense.

I looked into the betting odds on this, and most bookies are offering "Golden Boot winner" as a prop. Honestly, it makes me wonder if they’d even bother actually paying out the winnings.
