Zovko wins lawsuit against Šola over Gotovina documentary in Close to Politics ·
Honestly, whenever I look at these first-instance rulings, I can't help but feel like these local judges are completely out of their depth and just winging it.
Why on earth didn't the judge just request the video footage for review?
I mean, wouldn't that have been the easiest way to settle things, Miller? Plus, the public would have finally gotten a chance to see that little masterpiece written by Smithson. Based on his track record in journalism, I’m pretty sure we’re looking at yet another absolute bestseller!

Good grief, it’s just more court nonsense and baseless rambling. Where on earth is that documentary by Hrvoje Zovko that NBC is hiding like it's some state secret? I mean, any news anchor or editor at the network could swear they saw him working on it. There are plenty of people who actually watched the footage too, and they were all pretty disgusted by the way that kind of journalist uses cheap insinuations and planted stories.
Why didn't the court just focus on the actual merits of the case and examine his film? They could have even released it to the public, just so everyone could see what was really going on here. If the film was actually accurate and fair, why would NBC pull it from the air right after the acquittal of Ante Gotovina and Mladen Markač?

Someone once asked me about the Marielle Burani outlet. My sister shops there for plus-size clothing, so I finally looked into where the outlet actually is. It’s located in Cavriago, over in Emilia-Romagna, which is roughly a two-hour drive from Venice. My sister heads there specifically for coats, trousers, suits, and general professional attire. Prices can be up to 50% off, I think. She claims this particular spot has the best selection of Burani pieces; apparently, there's another one in Barberino, but she says the variety there just isn't as good. From what I gather, they carry sizes up to a 56, which I suppose would be the equivalent of a US size 22.
Anyway, I hope that helps 🙂
Political dynasties in the US: Is it a thing? in Close to Politics ·
northernsailor8, I don't really see it your way. I mean, there have been plenty of generations where parents were hauled off to places like Alcatraz or local detention centers, but those kids just ended up marginalized every single time. Where are the daughters of people like Robert Kennedy? They’re brilliant intellectuals, yet they barely get any recognition. Or take the descendants of figures like Joe Biden—you honestly think they wouldn't be more than capable of carrying on their fathers' legacies? I could go on all day, but I guess the issue isn't necessarily with certain groups, it's more about the others who refused to let those children follow in their parents' footsteps. That's where we fall short. Meanwhile, those specific families have spent generations teaching their kids exactly how to seize power and hold onto it for a lifetime.
Right to a second opinion in Health ·
Who do you actually talk to if you’re unhappy with both your diagnosis and the treatment plan they've handed you? I'm trying to figure out if there's some specific office within Medicare, the hospital, or maybe even at the Department of Health that handles requesting a second opinion. I mean, isn't that just standard practice everywhere else in the US?
Has anyone here actually gone through this process? How does it even work in practice?
Thanks
How can I help her? in Health ·
Look, if they refuse to see a doctor, then just let them die. I honestly don't have anything else to say to you. I find people who flat-out reject medical treatment absolutely fascinating. And how can you even be sure she isn't HIV positive? You mentioned sores all over her body, constant vomiting, and an immune system that's basically shot.
I don't get why your girlfriend is even letting this happen in the first place?? Does she need to be part of the problem too? If she won't go to a clinic, you should just report her to the facility management. Then she'll be forced to seek help because she'll lose her housing. It’s unbelievable, really.

I see you guys are struggling with the larger sizes. My sister deals with the exact same thing. She always orders from ASOS because they carry up to UK size 20, which I think is roughly a US 16. Apparently, they’ve even launched a dedicated plus-size line with even bigger options now. Plus, they have these tunics and dresses that look really great, and the prices are honestly ridiculous—like, maybe $25 $53 per piece.
I personally head over to eBay UK all the time. They have H&M's plus-size line there too, and people sell tons of stuff. They also have standard dresses, pants, jackets, and things like that in sizes up to 24, which would be about a US 20.
So, you should definitely give it a shot. I know how frustrating it is when nothing fits. I have the same issue myself; it's not even that I'm overweight, I'm just a normal weight, but I'm really tall—about 5'11"—so finding jeans or shirts with sleeves that actually reach my wrists is a total nightmare.
I also highly recommend checking out Gap on eBay US. They have some seriously genius pieces. Their XXL dresses and tunics fit my sister perfectly, and she's somewhere around a US 14 or 16. They run big, so someone who is a US 18 could probably fit into their XXL quite comfortably.
As for brands here in the States, she occasionally goes to Bandolera for pants since it's a German company and their sizing feels more realistic, but Marina Rinaldi is just way too expensive; it's enough to drive you crazy. My sister actually found out that Marina Rinaldi has this massive warehouse in Italy, so I can ask her if you're interested. Supposedly it's an outlet where everything is like 70% off.

I mean, honestly, why is this even a surprise? I guess you haven't heard that some gynecologists perform abortions in private settings? Of course they take cash under the table to pocket an extra thousand bucks, much like how they'll run an ultrasound without ever giving you a receipt... (look, I’m not endorsing this, and obviously not everyone operates this way, but I know plenty of people who do). This is just what I see happening in Washington, D.C.; I couldn't tell you about smaller towns, maybe things are handled differently elsewhere 🤷

That's exactly why private practice exists, right? 🙂

Karen Nguyen said:Hold on, just hold on a second. If her period is already late—and if it hasn't shown up yet—then we're talking about two to four weeks down the line here. By the time she actually confirms the pregnancy, gets an ultrasound, and does all that math in her head, it might be too late. She needs to get to a hospital IMMEDIATELY. You don't need an ultrasound to confirm a pregnancy; a home test or a blood draw works just fine. In any case, while she's busy dealing with all those logistics and trying to wrangle a gynecologist to get an appointment, she's going to lose a massive amount of time. She shouldn't wait even a single day, let alone eight weeks. If she waits until then, she’ll only have maybe a week or two left—about ten business days—to finish all the exams, set a date, and go through with the procedure. At that point, it'll be too late.

I guess I don't follow what you mean about waiting for an ultrasound? An ultrasound result takes maybe two minutes once you're there. I assume she already knows she's pregnant, whether it was via a blood test or a standard home test, so I'm not sure I get the confusion. Besides, pregnancy is calculated from the first day of the last period.

Nancy Miller5 said:It’s not even about those big private abortion clinics; I mean we're talking about private OB-GYN offices where you can just get it done without having to check into a hospital or deal with a massive waiting room full of other women (and believe me, there are plenty)!

I suppose four weeks isn't too early at all, since you can see the fetus pretty clearly on an ultrasound, so there might not be much point in dragging it out until eight weeks when things just get more complicated and painful.

Sorry, could you please tell me the name of that private clinic?
HELP!!! Urgent! in Health ·
I have no idea what kind of private abortion clinics you guys are talking about when you mention shaving... where are you even getting this nonsense?
Regarding the gynecologist thing—that’s just ridiculous. They’re going to refer you to a hospital anyway. The only thing they can really do is give you a referral for an ultrasound, which is mandatory, so maybe just save yourself some money on $33. That’s pretty much it.
Honey, look, you have to go to a hospital. If you're only four weeks along, it's way too early because they won't be able to see anything on the ultrasound yet. Wait until you're around seven or eight weeks. You need to get checked out, they'll give you the info regarding the procedure, and that's that. Prices vary depending on if you go somewhere like Columbus where it might be $200 or over to a major center like Mount Sinai in New York where it could be $500. I mention Mount Sinai because they tend to be the most compassionate about this stuff. Though, even there, you might run into those pamphlets filled with modern-day religious rhetoric trying to tell you that you're a murderer. It’s funny, though, because I doubt those same pamphlets would explain why our great-grandmothers were practicing different traditions a few centuries ago, but hey, I guess we shouldn't judge them.
In any case, you need to head to a hospital. But it's still too early for you. Just wait until you've hit the two-month mark.
Good luck!

It would probably be a lot more beneficial if, instead of obsessing over all these hormones, you actually took the time to learn American English.
We’d certainly be thrilled about that..🤣 🤣

Meli - A TOTAL DISASTER!!
Service - A DISASTER
Cake - A DISASTER
I honestly don't get why everyone hypes up this Meli place; it is pure garbage. At least when it comes to birthday cakes, it's a joke.
I placed my order about three weeks ago, and the woman told me they’d give me a call a day or two before. Fine. Nothing happened. Not a single word until the actual pickup day. Then I try calling, and the line is busy for two hours straight—I couldn't even get through because there was just some dog barking in the background on the other end. I finally tracked down a number by searching for the owner's info online around 1 PM because I was getting desperate. My husband thinks I'm overreacting and says everything is fine, but I was supposed to pick that cake up at 2 PM.
I ordered a ladybug design, and it was packaged so poorly that it got smashed twice during the drive home because they clearly don't have proper boxes for it. It doesn't matter though, as long as they make the sale. Half the cake was practically hanging out of the box.
And the cake itself? Absolute trash. For that kind of money, it's insulting. It looks nothing like the original photo; instead of the topper, you get cheap gummy candies, and there's this dark brown lump mixed in where you can actually see what looks like fingerprints. The parfait was terrible too—way too runny and melted almost immediately. Even a day later, the dye from it is still stuck on my hands and won't wash off.
For that price...
I guess I was stupid, if I'm being honest, because I should have just gone to the Ritz. They are easily eight times better, higher quality, and actually cheaper than this Meli crap.
So, there it is. I'm sharing my experience so maybe someone will think twice before heading there for a cake. And you might want to hold off on seeing if she shows up for your kid's first birthday.
