Happiness starts with ice cream in Health ·
Toco1980 said:It’s common knowledge that chocolate triggers an endorphin rush—those "feel-good" hormones—in the brain.

...and that explains why people are so obsessed with chocolate. Sure, aerobic workouts like running also spike your endorphins, and honestly, probably even more so. But when it comes to finding a shortcut to happiness, I’d much rather take the route from my recliner than the one on a track.🙂
Tennis: The ultimate weight loss hack! in Health ·
Rachel Parker4 said:I’m not your typical gold digger; I’m more of a "neo-gold digger." It’s a whole new category. Basically, a neo-gold digger is completely self-sufficient and academically educated, but if a sponsor happens to fly in, she’ll be more than happy to accept.

I am not talking nonsense!! When it comes to sports, I’ve tried squash and Benjamin, but tennis gives me the most satisfaction. Besides, how would you even know what I'm talking about? Have you ever actually worked on your technique with a coach? If you do, it actually looks good and becomes useful. After that, I was like a reborn girl.

On top of everything else I’ve already pointed out, let me add that you’re a liar. An academically educated person knows at least the basics of American grammar, yet your sentences look like they were written by a first grader.
Just go back to your coach so you can get those "dummy balls" flying again. That seems to be more your speed. 🙂

Rachel Parker4 said:I’ve tried both squash and Benjamin. Honestly, staring at a wall in squash feels pretty mindless, and it's way too anaerobic for my taste—you don't really lose weight, you just end up building bulk. As for Bagminton, it’s alright, but you don't burn nearly enough calories. I stick to tennis with my coach (who shows up $17) and that actually looks great; the balls just go *thwack thwack*. I get my cardio in, soak up some sun, and maybe eye my coach 🙄 or a few businessmen 👋 over on the next court.

Benjamin? Bagminton? You think squash is too anaerobic and builds mass? Your tennis balls go "thwack thwack"? And you spend your time checking out businessmen on the courts next to you?
Look, don't get defensive, but you're talking nonsense. You clearly have no idea what you're actually talking about, and frankly, you're just a textbook gold digger.

Zinc supplementation: Is it worth it? in Health ·
Zinc—especially when you pair it with Vitamin C—is supposed to bolster your immune system, not weaken it. It’s an established fact that taking zinc and Vitamin C can cut the duration of a common cold by about 20% to 30%.

That's the whole deal—there are no shortcuts.
L-Carnitine: Any recommendations? in Health ·
Brenda Reed3 said:Without L-carnitine, you can't tap into fat stores for energy, so you absolutely have to supplement it, especially during intense workouts.

I think Ms. Vrbanc phrased this poorly. If her logic actually held water, it would imply that getting lean is impossible without L-carnitine.
Let's cut to the chase: carnitine is a total waste of money. Someone who stays consistent with their training and maintains a clean diet won't lose any more body fat by taking carnitine than someone following the exact same diet and workout plan without it. Research backs this up. When people start a diet, grab some carnitine, finally get their training and nutrition on track, and then lose weight, that isn't because of the carnitine. It's the discipline.
Someone mentioned above that carnitine gave them enough energy to swim across an ocean. That is a textbook example of the placebo effect. A single amino acid simply cannot produce that kind of impact. Look, if carnitine were actually that powerful, pro athletes would be loading up on it constantly, and they aren't.

I don't know anything about that specific case, but lock him in a room for a month and we'll see how quickly he "gets over" his addiction.

Martin said:When I talked about "messing with your hormonal system," I meant that introducing external hormones causes your body to stop producing them naturally. Everything works fine as long as your own production kicks back in once you stop the external supply. But if that process hits a wall...

Shutting down your own testosterone production only happens in extreme cases—like taking steroids for way too long, say nine months or a year straight without a break. Even then, it isn't incurable, and frankly, it shouldn't be the focus of this discussion. If someone decides to wreck their life by abusing ASUS like that, they need a psychiatrist, not a fitness coach.

Martin said:I agree that veteran bodybuilders generally have enough info and know what they're doing. The issue is the amateurs who want to pack on muscle mass instantly while barely stepping foot in the gym. Those guys end up cycling everything under the sun in massive, reckless doses. [/B]

Luckily, there aren't many of those types out there.

Martin said:BTW, it’s also worth noting that there are legal and illegal anabolic steroids, and using most of them leads to side effects like hair loss. Additionally, taking various hormones causes certain (mostly temporary) changes in the body. [/B]

Hair loss only affects people who were already genetically predisposed to losing it; steroids just accelerate what was going to happen anyway. People seem to think they'll go bald from ASUS in a month. That's just not how it works. Just look at Arnold or Sarcastic.

Martin said:That's why I'd recommend anyone just starting out in bodybuilding, especially recreational lifters, to train without any supplements first—just focusing on solid nutrition. Only after some time has passed, and they've gathered enough information, should they decide whether or not they want to use performance enhancers. [/B]

Exactly!

Frank Lee6 said:Look, I’ve personally seen cases where people barely made it out alive because they were reckless with steroids and other "chemicals."

I agree. Using steroids without any expertise or responsibility can be incredibly dangerous.

Frank Lee6 said:Besides, just ask any doctor what they think about messing around with your hormonal system.

I’ve already asked. This isn't about "messing around"; it's about using medications that are standard in the medical field. Manipulating hormone levels is possible through perfectly legal and widely available means anyway—ranging from basic zinc and magnesium supplementation (in precise doses) to supplements like Tribulus and the like.

Frank Lee6 said:If someone is going to try to pack on muscle mass this way, they really ought to be under constant medical supervision and actually know exactly what they should be using and in what quantities.

I agree, but most people in this community actually know what they're doing. Honestly, until we see some kind of epidemic caused by AAS usage or a sudden spike in fatalities, there’s no reason to panic. At the end of the day, millions of women use synthetic hormones to regulate their periods or prevent pregnancy, and nobody starts a moral panic over that.

Frank Lee6 said:George Bailey2,

Look, I’m no expert, but I know enough to talk sense here.

Don't even try to tell me that human growth hormone can build that kind of muscle mass.

Messing around with hormones usually ends in a disaster—it's incredibly easy to screw up, things go south fast, and even if you survive, you're left with permanent health issues.

Of course GH can build those muscles. Growth hormone is more powerful than any other anabolic steroid out there—we're talking Dianabol, Anadrol, Parabolan—it's even stronger than testosterone. Every pro bodybuilder (and more athletes these days, just look at Marion Jones) builds their entire AAS cycle around growth hormone.
And as for the dangers of GH and AAS, they aren't nearly as bad as you think. Besides, when was the last time you actually heard about someone dying from AAS?

Yeah, and you totally forgot to mention the

Here’s what a guy can actually look like:

to add:

... all thanks to a heavy dose of horse hormones and other "chemicals."

Don't speak on things you don't understand. Pro bodybuilders aren't using "horse hormones"; they're using substances that are standard medical treatments, just misused in the context of competitive bodybuilding.
First off, go do some actual research online on what Winstrol, Deca Durabolin, Dianabol, and testosterone are actually used for... then come back to this forum and show us what you've learned.

They don't have any real definitions because they're just wasting food.
Creatine doesn't actually build pure muscle mass; it's basically 90% water retention in the muscles that disappears the second you stop taking it.
At the end of the day, creatine isn't even effective for advanced lifters—it’s mostly just for beginners.

I constantly hear people say, "I want to hit the gym, but I don't want to end up looking bulky," as if you just wake up looking like a pro bodybuilder after two weeks of lifting weights. People walk into the gym with this ridiculous mindset, and then two months later, they quit entirely because they aren't seeing massive results—even though their workouts are grueling and the diet they actually need to follow is incredibly strict.
From one extreme to the other. 🙂
