Honestly, 10-15 lbs is definitely enough for you guys... I’ve already mentioned that when I was catering for 120 people, I went with about 45 lbs, and half of it just sat there... And that was for a winter wedding—you'd think people would be craving sweets more when it's freezing out compared to some summer heatwave—but yeah, there was just way too much food left over.

The cookies are actually pretty good, but they're charging $27/kg

Heading over to Monica's today to treat myself and my better half a little bit😍

Man... if you're looking at $27/lb, there are some seriously killer pastries out there, but the standard rule of thumb is about a pound per person—we’ve already gone over this a dozen times lately
. And just like Donna Chase12 mentioned—it really all comes down to whether you're planning on handing them out as favors or not...

I grabbed 45 lbs for a crowd of 120 people, and I’m pretty sure I had at least 22 lbs left over. I wasn't even planning on giving them away, but honestly, everything got eaten anyway since we ended up bringing treats to the office and feeding the elderly folks back home the next day and stuff.

Yeah, I guess... those wedding ones were alright—not exactly life-changing like those gourmet cupcakes, but decent enough. Some people were raving about them though,

Nah, calling it expensive is a stretch... she just bumped up the prices a tiny bit. Ever since we found her place, we've been making regular trips out to Cleveland just to grab some pastries from her😍

yeah... that's the name of the bakery... honestly, you're better off letting Elena give you the rundown on prices—I saw in her posts that they've changed since the last time I placed an order

William Parker61, I honestly have no clue what the diameter of that cake was, but since it cost about the same as the others, I’m guessing it was a standard size
I can't tell you how many slices we got out of it—half went to my mom and the rest we polished off at home—so I haven't really sat down to count the servings...
She might be thinking of those wide 8-inch ones they sell at the local bakery...
Yeah, that orange one is pretty delicious too😍
As for Monica herself—yeah, she’s a sweetheart, seriously. It makes me happy to see someone who actually kills it at their job while keeping prices reasonable; she definitely deserves more customers🙂
And honestly, I'm sure you guys will be just as stoked as I was
urbanowl10, if that’s your vibe, she won't have any trouble doing hearts for you—I asked for stars because that was my thing—so just go in and try it out

William Parker61 said:Hey ladies, I’ve finally finished sorting out the cake! The search ended at Monica’s bakery in Newport. I went ahead and ordered the cupcakes 🙂

Man, I'm actually glad it's sorted... are you getting the same ones I did or something different?
Honestly, I feel like I should've asked Monica for a kickback for basically running an ad campaign for those cupcakes😉😁

No worries, fingers crossed you pull it off👍

And honestly, prices around here usually run anywhere from $16 up to $11... which is why I’m telling you, this is a steal... especially since the taste and look alone would justify a much higher price tag
I ordered some last month for a birthday party and they were slightly different, but still absolutely delicious—so yeah, I've officially been proven right twice now that Monica kills it with these cakes

122, but I actually ordered 130 of them plus that cake...
I ended up paying $3.25 per piece, and the cake was $40, though since I walked away with 20kg of treats—between the mini cakes and the big one—I managed to snag a $67 discount...
Honestly, I’m beyond happy with how it turned out

I saw some girl just placed an order, but apparently starting next month they'll be $3.25 each... otherwise, these are easily the cheapest little treats I've found in New York City... and they taste amazing, too

ambersailor102 said:I have a quick question for Emma. First off, those mini cakes of yours—wow. They are absolutely stunning, so elegant and visually appealing, and I’m sure they taste just as good too, haha
.
Honestly, they look better than any individual dessert I’ve scrolled past online, which leads me to my actual question: how big are they really?
Is one single mini cake actually enough for one guest? On one hand, I know there will be plenty of other desserts and treats served alongside the wedding cake, but I can already see myself panicking when someone asks for seconds and I have to say, "Sorry, we're all out," heheheheh
.
I am obsessed with the idea, and I think they are so much more charming than a traditional cake, but at the same time, I'm a little nervous about the logistics

sonea, thanks!
The portion size is basically like a thick slice of cake, and I served them alongside that layered one (the one on top)
Here are some pics

Basically, just be prepared that people might ask for more because they're so good, but if your guest count isn't massive like mine was, having something similar to what I did should be plenty

I don't think you are, but hey, it's never too late😉... thanks🙂

haha... I just grabbed one with chocolate cream and those are killer too...
honestly, I don't think those $27 are even that bad when you realize prices in NYC average around $80-$40/lb—plus she gave me a $67 discount on a 20lb order, so I was pretty stoked👍

Did she grab the exact same ones I had, or something different? And what did Monica hike up the prices on? I just ordered some cupcakes for a birthday the day before yesterday and they cost me less than $3.25
Why wouldn't you just get her treats instead?

Sandra Campbell9 said:The wedding cake is usually brought out on a stand somewhere between 10:00 and 11:00 PM (though it varies depending on the couple). The servers bring it over to the newlyweds, who then cut it together and take a bite (some couples choose to feed their godparents or parents, though we certainly won't be doing that 😁). In the meantime, the other cakes are set out on a buffet, and the smaller pastries are served directly to the tables. Once the bride and groom, along with the wedding party, have had their share, the main cake can be moved to the dessert buffet alongside the others, or it can simply stay at the head table if that's what they prefer... It is, of course, available to anyone who wishes to try it. 🙂
That is why I say it isn't particularly vital to me that I feed every single guest with that specific cake, yet I still feel it ought to make an impression through its sheer size. If I am being honest, the part that feels a bit awkward about all of this is that our parents are the ones footing the entire bill for the wedding, so I really wouldn't want to go overboard with the cost of the cake. I suppose I will just have to find some sort of middle ground, if such a thing exists. 😛

Sounds like a cool tradition, but honestly? It's a pricey hobby... thank god they don't do this stuff in NYC, or they'd be going broke just over the dessert😉

Look, everything's cool... I'm just saying it’s a little tough to give you advice (at least for us folks here in New York City) when I have zero clue how things work over where you are😉
Basically, since they usually charge per slice based on the guest count, you just decide how many people you want to feed and they'll build the price around that
But I am curious about the logistics on your end—is that cake reserved for specific guests or what...? And when do those other desserts get served—all at once or earlier in the night?
Wedding cakes and desserts in Weddings ·
And even that little comment of yours—"hm, did they get the point?"—didn't exactly sit right with me... I mean, that was just my gut reaction, because I honestly feel like I asked nicely enough before that. I genuinely didn't get what was going on...
But whatever, it doesn't matter... I can't exactly offer advice to someone from the Midwest who’s playing by a completely different set of rules and prices anyway.

Look, since she hasn't gotten back to me—and honestly, I have no clue where she's from or what their traditions are like—I figured I’d just ask here... what's the deal with those 12 cakes? And how does a wedding for 350 people even run for $500-$333? ☕
