What's the greatest movie of all time? in Movies ·
🙂 I suppose you could call me an American samurai, if such a thing even exists.
King Arthur in Movies ·

Everything about this just feels fundamentally wrong... I don't know, maybe it's just me, but nothing about any of this seems to be going right at all.

I have to admit, I really enjoyed the cast, but the plot just seemed to lose its way somewhere around the halfway mark. Maybe I’ve just read too much about King Arthur, or perhaps my obsession with the Middle Ages—or at least the tail end of antiquity—is getting the better of me. It felt like I was catching all the little inconsistencies they tried to mash together, if you know what I mean.

So, I guess you're saying you wouldn't really recommend him? 😁
I honestly suspect that even Alexander the Great wouldn't be able to top what we're seeing here.
Alien vs. Predator in Movies ·

Actually, I think there might be a little mix-up here—it wasn't actually John McTiernan who directed Stargate; that was Emerich who helmed the film.
I believe that John McTiernan actually directed the first Predator.

Do you see this scene with the pyramids? It feels so incredibly superficial and lacks any real substance; I honestly get the impression the director was just trying to manufacture a second Stargate...
Sadly, none of that worked out, and it's such a shame that John McTiernan didn't direct the movie.

That is just absolutely terrifying!!!!

GO FOR IT😂 😂

Or maybe that one scene where they're all acting out those dragon parts...😂 😂

I honestly feel like this movie deserves 11 Oscars, especially if you count the ones for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. 😬

Personally, I thought the movie was pretty decent, though I might suggest picking up the book as well; I feel like the book goes into much more detail on certain aspects of the story...

silentpilot6 said:But you guys really went after Troy just because it’s some four-way split like VIII Nego-kaj.

Is this whole Nego-kaj thing just stuff scavenged from that FAT IDIOT JACKSON?

You bring up the dialogue—well, if you actually take a look at the dialogue in LOTR.

🤔-from what I seem to recall about reading the Iliad back in high school- the armies basically just stood there watching their "star players" beat the hell out of each other.

I mean, granted, they probably didn't all stop in unison (not that anyone more than ten feet away could tell), but those close to the action were definitely just standing there.

And let's be honest, Achilles is a total narcissistic slayer anyway.

Plus, I guess Jackson is just some guy who pretends to know anything about Fantasy, much like how I pretend to understand nuclear physics.👎

What you said definitely applies to him being fat, but honestly, if I ever had to choose which movie to rewatch, Troy over LOTR any day... I actually dig Troy because it doesn't have those scenes that absolutely nauseated me in LOTR, specifically those parts where Frodo, Aragorn, and Arwen are having these cinematic visions like they're on some kind of trip... it really drags the movie down so much it gives you a headache.

I guess I mostly agree with you on that point...👍

I just walked out of the theater myself, and honestly, there wasn't anything new or particularly surprising about it.

I don't really feel up to diving into all the details right this second... maybe I'll talk more tomorrow once I've had some time to process everything, but most of what I mentioned before actually ended up happening...

It’s a bit of a shame that they put Achilles so much in the spotlight, because he isn't even the main figure of that whole saga—that would be Odysseus. I suppose Hollywood is obviously more interested in the guy swinging swords and doing all that action stuff.

In my opinion, though, the best film by Wolfgang Petersen remains Das Boot.

So, to me, this movie doesn't really stand out from things like Gladiator, Braveheart, or LOTR... and since we're on the subject, you could probably watch the trailer for The Day After Tomorrow and see it'll be exactly the same as The Core (which was honestly one of the worst things I've ever seen), Deep Impact, Vulcano, and so on.

I honestly feel like just when this villain finally leaves the theaters and hits the shelves on Blu-ray, we’ll all take a collective breath thinking it's finally over... but it really isn't, because I guess Alexander the Great will eventually show up and we'll just be right back at square one again.

Does anyone happen to know if there's any truth to the rumor that they actually had to reshoot certain scenes from Alexander because they filmed part of it on some damaged film stock?🙂
Troy in Movies ·
I have a sinking feeling this movie is going to be an absolute slog... I’m honestly expecting yet another overstuffed spectacle designed to just pummel the audience for three straight hours.

And just when you finally think the story has reached its conclusion, it turns out there’s STILL more... and then even MORE...

😵 😵 😵 😵

It really brings back memories of that last Lord of the Rings installment, doesn't it?

If you look at the trailer, you can see ships stretching all the way across the horizon, millions upon millions of soldiers, and of course, Orlando Bloom playing some devoted servant whose love for someone is apparently even greater than life itself.
And let’s not forget, the film will probably sweep up its 15th Oscar because the production itself is somehow grander than life.

I think I might have actually started this thread myself, but oh well, here we go again...

It feels like we’re just going to get the same old tired responses over and over... basically, everyone saying THE MOVIE IS GOING TO BE TRASH.

I suppose it would be quite refreshing if the film actually managed to surprise us, though I guess I'm probably being a bit too optimistic about that...
Orlando Bloom in Movies ·
Personally, I’ve always felt he has that kind of presence, almost like Leonardo DiCaprio... as for Troy, I suppose it might just be another one of those overhyped action flicks that doesn't exactly scream quality to me.
