Eating Disorder Support & Recovery in Health ·
Look, don't get all worked up—I'm seriously not trying to be mean when I call this a mental illness. A sickness is a sickness, right? Or are you actually suggesting that Eating Disorders aren't even real illnesses... like people just make them up for fun?

I mean, there are actual scientific journals out there dedicated to psychiatry, psychophysiology, and all that stuff—places where they publish legit research results regarding the treatment of eating disorders

The reality is that everyone's approach to treatment is different, mostly because we're dealing with such a messy, complicated issue

But at the end of the day, you're always going to have a Psychiatrist involved one way or another, or at least some kind of psychologist.

Look, neither you nor I have the credentials to be throwing around Eating Disorders diagnoses like candy... we aren't trained for this stuff.

Check out this reference—give the paper a read and then tell me if you still don't buy the idea that EDs are mental illnesses:

Journal of Psychiatric Research, 39 (2005), 303.

If you can't track it down online, I can just shoot you the PDF via email.

Look, let's just be real here—Eating Disorders are mental illnesses.

I’ve never dealt with any kind of mental illness myself—so, yeah, no personal psychiatrist over here.

But honestly, looking at people close to me... I've become pretty convinced that professional help is the only way to actually get things sorted out.

Yeah, let’s be real—psychiatrists are basically just total morons who do nothing but cause damage

People struggling actually need a "firm hand" instead of being forced to take all those pills. It’s all just a massive setup by paid hacks and traitors to give psychopharmacology types an easier way to control the masses

🙄

When you’re actually losing your grip—like, truly struggling with your mental health—making even the simplest, most logical decision about your own treatment feels impossible... it's just a mess.

The people who actually give a damn about you? They're the ones who have to practically drag you to the psychiatrist... because honestly, a therapist alone just isn't going to cut it when things get that dark.

Look, Kyle Nelson2.

Michelle Patel78 is in the medical field—at least, that’s my take on it...

2. And regarding calories—carbonated drinks are super high-calorie by nature.

I can't believe I'm actually doing this, but here goes nothing...

1. try putting a chunk of meat inside your own stomach and see how you feel in the morning!!!!

2. Pizza is only calorie-heavy if there's actual SUGAR involved. Diet Coca-Cola doesn't have any sugar.

Kyle Nelson2 said:I've checked out a few, but not all of them, so I can't really give you a definitive answer.

The real question here is—what was your friend actually dealing with? Like, what condition was she treating? Was she on meds, and did she stop taking them while they were doing TM?

She’s been on her meds the whole time—didn't skip a single dose even during the TM sessions.

Look, I don't have anything against TM itself, honestly... but what happened with her? That was just straight-up terrifying...

Kyle Nelson2 said:lol, okay...

If you head over to a major research hub—like maybe a big Mayo Clinic center or something—you could dig up like 500 different studies specifically designed to track how TM actually works.

I’ve actually spent some time digging through a few of those papers myself...

But wait, are we even talking about people with actual mental health conditions here?

Kyle Nelson2 said:Is that just your take on things, or do you actually have some hard facts to back that up?

I’m talking about my own experience with a friend dealing with mental health issues... she actually started meditating, but then everything just went south again and she ended up being hospitalized.

So, yeah... you got any actual data showing that TM can even help?

Kyle Nelson2 said:just send her to some meditation retreat, Transcendental Meditation, Reiki, whatever...

Honestly, I think that stuff could actually do her some good—and even if it doesn't work, at least she isn't popping pills like candy, right?

🙂

but seriously, playing around with these kinds of "alternative" experiments on people struggling with mental illness is incredibly dangerous!...

😂 😂 😂

I’m seriously gonna end up breaking my monitor if I stare at this Diet Coke light glare any longer, goddammit...

Rachel Brooks63, you are literally my hero... 🙂

Maybe some kids from the local high school can learn what a buffer actually is—and honestly, which kid is even talking about this crap right now?

Alexander Hill2 said:I haven't read through the whole thread—honestly, I have no clue if anyone already pointed this out... but get this: on the Diet Coke label, it says:

Look, if you want to stay somewhat functional, you really gotta be hitting that two-liter mark every single day... honestly, just aim for at least two liters of water daily or whatever... otherwise, you're basically just walking around like a dried-up raisin, and nobody wants that...

If you aren't supposed to be knocking back huge amounts of something... like, at all... does that even make the drinking worth it? I mean, seriously—if there's a limit, is there even any point in having a sip? It’s like, what's the catch? Everything's got a fine print these days... just makes you wonder if anything is actually "good" anymore if you have to watch your step every single time... turns out, maybe nothing is ever truly guilt-free... 🙄

Honestly, they really oughta put a warning on those bottles of spring water that says "do not exceed 4 liters a day"... because seriously, drinking more than that actually does some damage to you—though if you ask me, even hitting the 2-liter mark is already pushing it way too far...

Honestly, maybe we should just stop drinking water altogether, right? I mean, think about it... everything's sketchy these days—the tap water, the bottled stuff, even the fancy alkaline nonsense you see at Whole Foods... it's all a gamble. Might as well just embrace the dehydration and call it a day... right? 😉

You ever stop to think about how absolutely insane science actually is? Like, seriously... you know you can basically shred DNA structure just by using water? It’s wild—just pure, simple H2O messing with the very blueprint of life... honestly, it makes you wonder what else we're just casually walking around ignoring while we worry about stupid stuff like taxes or whether the Wi-Fi is fast enough... turns out, the building blocks of everything are way more fragile than we give them credit for. Just... yeah. Crazy. 😲 So you're telling me you just dumped two ounces of water and some oil onto the sample?! Great. Just great... there goes the DNA. Completely gone. Gone! ...

So, just a heads-up on that warning on the Diet Coke—it’s basically because of the artificial sweeteners. If you go a little too hard and chug a ton at once, it can totally wreck your stomach and trigger some serious diarrhea... yeah, gross, I know.

Angela Kelly said:Just a little reality check here—we live in America, where the whole healthcare and social safety net situation is built on a totally different set of rules... everything is different over here. If she needs help, the government isn't just gonna swoop in and fix it unless someone actually steps up and does something about it.

Unlike some other places where there's this idea of everyone chipping in together to support someone in need... 🙄give me a break

The woman is sick. If she’s got no family and she's completely on her own, then you take her to a doctor—if you actually want to help her or whatever...

Black Knights said:I'm just messing around, honestly—I just meant I wasn't really factoring diabetics into the equation. And obviously, regular soda is a total non-starter for them... definitely off the table. 😉

Alright, fair enough then.

I guess I'm just curious though... what's actually in the mix in a regular Coke and how does it actually mess with your body?
Diet Coke in Health ·
Black Knights said:Look, if you don't have hands, you don't need a lawnmower.😉

That's a pretty stupid take.

I drink Diet Coke because I've got diabetes, and—funny enough—sometimes I just crave something that isn't sparkling water or black coffee/tea without ice (even though, get this, I actually *have* diabetes)...
Diet Coke in Health ·
look, if you're dealing with diabetes, "regular" Coca-Cola is definitely going to wreck you way more than Diet Coke 😉

darkbison81 said:So, is she even a doctor? Like, what's her actual deal?
Does that mean there's nobody in the office who actually knows how to handle a patient's mental state?

Yeah, she is a doctor—an occupational medicine specialist.

Based on what she’s writing there, she thinks the whole cause of Eating Disorders is just this obsession with being thin that gets shoved down your throat by everyone else.

But unfortunately... that's just the trigger. That's just the spark.

I mean, one of the things that falls under the umbrella of Eating Disorders is orthorexia nervosa—you know, that obsessive fixation on "healthy" eating. It makes me wonder... how on earth is an occupational med doc supposed to cure someone dealing with that?

Look, Tanja Škoro isn't a psychologist, let alone a psychiatrist...

People dealing with Eating Disorders are often way better at nutrition than some "educated" experts out there 😁

Sure, eating right is part of the recovery process—obviously—but we're talking about a mental illness here, not just a bad diet.

mistybear4, maybe do a little reading on bulimia and anorexia first, then come back and ask questions about what a psychiatrist actually does when treating these things.
