I’ll be the first to admit I’m just following this whole saga as a total outsider—and honestly, looking at this doctor's profile, she seemed like someone with actual experience...

To me, it feels totally wrong to try and treat an Eating Disorder by just pushing a "healthy eating" program and some nutritional facts without getting a psychologist involved, even just for a little help.

Eating Disorders are mental illnesses, plain and simple, and those kinds of things are handled by psychiatrists.

Trying to pin the cause of EDs solely on society's obsession with being skin-and-bones—basically forcing pressure on young girls who don't fit some impossible mold—is such a massive oversimplification.

Environmental pressure is just the trigger for the disorder, nothing more.

Like I already mentioned, I'm not really sure who handles this specific stuff in Washington, D.C.—I know metabolic specialists, but they aren't the answer here, obviously.

Maybe try calling some psychiatric hospitals?

Rachel Brooks63 said:and the result—honestly, screw it—is always the exact same thing...

the whole mess comes down to the clash between A. cold hard facts and B. pure ideology

A: - whether there’s actual sugar in something or not

B: - oh sure, but they're just saying that—conspiracy theorists, shills, you know the drill...

The type 2 diabetes epidemic is NOT caused by drinking Diet Coke🙂

Diet Coke doesn't have any sucrose or other sugars that would spike your blood glucose levels... it definitely isn't making you gain weight.

The whole diabetes crisis is actually tied to obesity—which, let's be real, comes from slamming sodas loaded with actual sugar or high-fructose corn syrup

Sorry about the caps lock, but man, people are just talking total nonsense out there

Look, I don't know which primary care doctor you're seeing, but if you actually trust the person, just tell them straight up that you're struggling with food—even if you're not quite sure how to bring it up... it's easier than you think.

I've no clue where all the specialists for Eating Disorders are located around Washington, D.C., but honestly, your GP should be able to point you in the right direction with a referral.

One thing that’s been bugging me since the jump, though... is this idea you have about people who "successfully stick to a diet" being "strong people."

That is total bullshit. Just... complete nonsense.

Dieting—you know, those weird, temporary stints of eating specific things—is a fundamentally flawed way to look at nutrition and weight management. It just doesn't work long-term.

Your issues seem to be rooted in psychological stuff first and foremost (and trust me, you aren't the only one dealing with this), but if this were strictly about improper nutrition leading to being underweight or overweight, I could tell you exactly where to go with a referral.

As for that professor who called you out in public? You should definitely take it up with his boss... maybe even the Dean.

He is absolutely NOT allowed to say things like that, and he's an even bigger idiot if he actually said it in front of other students.

Yeah, well, I guess I believe her now too—now that she finally fixed that ridiculous claim about losing 20 pounds in a single week.

Don't tell me you didn't catch how insane that sounds... seriously.

Anyway, I still feel like this isn't really the right place to be hashing out stuff about eating disorders. There just aren't enough people here who actually get it—especially from a clinical standpoint—and most folks just think it’s some weird fad or a phase... which is honestly just terrible for anyone actually struggling.

It's super counterproductive for someone who's sick.

I mean, back when there was that huge main thread about EDs, people were even dropping links to those pro-ana sites and stuff... 😱

you should definitely go get some professional help

honestly, I doubt you're gonna get anything useful out of just posting on some random internet forum...

Look, I don't know about the rest of this whole thread, but this specific part? Yeah, that is straight-up fiction.

There is no way on earth someone drops 45 pounds in seven days—not even if you just popped out triplets...

What's the deal with E330 lemon acid? in Health ·
coppercrane89 said:g) inflammation of the oral cavity—E330 is the most dangerous additive (it means cancer)

but then again, E330 IS just lemon acid... so, I mean, who's actually buying this? 😕

It’s pretty basic math—if E330 really is just lemon acid, then that info on the list above is straight-up wrong.

And adults are being lied to... 😁

Nah, definitely not.

My comment was being sarcastic—mostly because you told me earlier, "If you walk into the hospital pissed off at the whole world and convinced things will suck, then they probably will."

Look, I get that wasn't aimed directly at me... but the whole vibe made it seem like my experience in pathology sucked just because I had high expectations in the first place.

Edward Turner27 said:Then what’s with all this massive HYSTERIA about E330 being the MOST CANCEROGENIC additive ever!!!!!!!!!!

😕

First off—go double-check if E330 actually even refers to citric acid... just make sure you aren't chasing ghosts here.

2. And if it turns out it is—then next time you run into some doom-and-gloomer claiming E330 is a carcinogen, just tell 'em they're dead wrong. I mean, seriously... citric acid is in basically all fruit anyway, so it's pretty obvious it isn't doing us any harm.

Thomas Palmer31 said:Look, I wasn't even aiming that specifically at you—I was just speaking in general terms... honestly...
Look, people just expect way too much from these maternity wards... like they think the fancy equipment or the sterile walls actually matter—but I’m telling you, I'll say it again—the only thing that truly carries any weight is the actual human element. It all comes down to the staff... their soul, their vibe, and how they actually treat the women giving birth. If the people working there don't give a damn about the connection with the mothers, then none of those high-tech gadgets mean a thing... honestly...

Look, I wasn't even talking about the maternity ward—because let’s be real, I haven't actually made it to that stage yet, I haven't given birth, dammit—I was talking about pathology...

So... you actually had a bad run at the pathology lab over at Vinogradska? Man, that's rough—honestly, those places can be such a total nightmare sometimes... just feels like you're waiting forever only to deal with people who couldn't care less, right? I swear, some of those clinics feel like they're stuck in a different decade entirely... totally draining.

Or maybe you were just expecting too much? Honestly... I don't know. People always walk into these things thinking it’s gonna be some cinematic masterpiece or a total dream, and then—bam—reality hits like a freight train. Just my two cents, anyway... maybe the bar was just set way too high from the jump. 😉

I mean, I’ve messed around with the staff, screamed my head off, I even slapped a doctor once—don't judge—but honestly? The only thing that actually mattered was how they treated me...

Because let's be real, what good are fancy marble floors and those gold-plated bed rails if the people delivering the baby are total monsters...😉

Look, I never said I went into the hospital all worked up, it was actually the exact opposite...

It wasn't bad from a human standpoint, you know? Like, people were fine.

Something else was terrible, but I really don't feel like getting into that right now...

I haven't even made it up to the factory yet—not even close. It’s probably a good thing you’re singing their praises, though...🙂

Thomas Palmer31 said:Nah, I actually gave birth there and my experience was totally fine—seriously, I’m talking about the Vinogradska hospital and the attending physician over at the high-risk pregnancy ward (not *the* pathology department, mind you, just the unit for managing complicated pregnancies)

Unfortunately, I know all too well what "high-risk pregnancy" entails...

Glad to hear your experience didn't involve Mount Sinai.

they refused to actually call themselves a psychologist😁

just kidding, mostly... you probably meant they aren't a pro by trade, but they’ve got that natural knack for handling patients, right?

man, I seriously love doctors like that...🙂

How can you even know if she needs an ultrasound—not to mention blood work—and how would you even make sense of those results once they actually come back anyway???

I'm pretty sure she already said her dermatologist was the one who sent her in for the ultrasound. 🙂

Carl Lee4 said:So, does this mean if I miss ovulation multiple times—especially if I somehow triggered it myself—that there could be lasting consequences... like, what if I just stop ovulating altogether?

Well, honestly, it all depends on what actually caused you to skip it in the first place...

You can always get your hormone levels checked through a blood test to see what's actually going on under the hood.

There’s really no reason to stress out and assume something is broken until your lab results actually say so.
