Birth control pills: Questions for the pros in Women's Health ·
Look:

Smoking and hormonal birth control don't mix. It ramps up the risk of blood clots. Usually, they start in the deep veins of your leg, then they can travel to your lungs, brain, or whatever.

You could end up having a heart attack that way because your blood starts clotting too easily. When someone shows up with deep vein thrombosis, doctors always check if they smoke, take contraceptives, have been sedentary, or had an injury that kept them immobile—those are all major risk factors.

As for the fat content thing, I don't think there's a connection there.

Basically, thromboembolism is the clot itself, while a stroke or heart attack is what happens when those clots cause damage 😉.

Just quit smoking 🥳.

What if you aren't actually allergic to anything and that's why you're always runny?
My ex had the exact same issues. I made him see an ENT twice, and he kept claiming it wasn't "work-related." But even now, he still can't breathe right and his nose won't stop running.

It might be so-called subbronchial syndrome. Maybe ask your doctor about it.
If the computer flags something as out of range, just mark it H or L immediately.
Why does this happen? Your sedimentation rate looks fine. If we had measured it today, I guess it would have been a 3 or 4; sometimes you see these tiny variations depending on which lab you use. I actually had my blood drawn twice in one day because when I told my mom my WBC was 2, she immediately sent me to get a new lab test (I felt terrible at work) just to make sure it wasn't an error. Even between those two labs, there were tiny differences—like a 2 at the hospital versus a 2.1 at a private clinic.

As for your red blood cell count, again, these deviations are so minor that it's hard to say why. There are plenty of reasons why RBCs go up, but based on a quick glance at such a small difference... hmm... since they measure by volume, maybe you're just slightly dehydrated (that's my guess), which makes the reading look a bit higher (I've never really explained tiny differences before; if they were large, it would be much easier 😁).
Generally speaking, RBCs increase during dehydration, if you have chronic oxygen deficiency (like with certain lung conditions where the body produces more cells to carry oxygen, or even if you live at high altitudes), or due to other issues like polycythemia vera (where too many cells are produced), certain tumors (you don't have that, I'm just listing possibilities), Cushing's disease, and so on.
My take? A little dehydration (given the summer heat) and maybe just some lab variance.

If you have more questions, just ask!
Look, everything seems fine to me. Those are just tiny deviations, especially the ESR—don't sweat it too much. It wouldn't be an issue unless, say, your ESR hit 80 😉.

Last time, my WBC count dropped to 2 (normal range is 4.4-10), and I almost passed out, but it bounced back to 5 within five days 😁.

What kind of explanation are you actually looking for?

Nah, those bumps are just part of the deal. You can't exactly wash them away 🙂.

If you actually want to look it up, it’s officially called *dystopia glandularum sebacearum* and *papillae coronae glandis*—or pearly penile papules if you want the layman's terms. I even went through a medical textbook just for you!

As for the whole exhibitionist thing, I still haven't forgotten that one poor guy back during our dermatology rotations. He walks in there thinking he's some big shot, flashing everything while half the class is sitting right behind the doctor like an audience. Like, please, just put some clothes on 😁.

It’s a mollusk, maybe 5mm or even a bit larger. It has this little indentation right in the center, and if you squeeze it, some cheesy stuff comes out. It's a viral infection, so the only real fix is getting it removed.

Personally, I think you might just have slightly enlarged sebaceous glands or maybe those glands that produce smegma (which are also sebaceous, technically). Neither of those things can really be "cured" (and it's probably the latter). If you're dead set on seeing someone, you should probably go to a dermatologist.

That’s my golden rule, too. I don't care how stressed or moody I might be feeling—my patients shouldn't have to deal with that.

The other day, a patient actually complimented me on it, and then even one of the nurses did 🙂. Probably the most unprofessional thing I’ve done was when a patient's wife refused to hand over some paperwork because she was worried I'd "lose it." I just told her, "Fine, whatever you think is best, it's for his own good," 👎 though I probably could have handled it differently.

Corruption honestly makes my skin crawl 🙂.

Shame on them.

Taylor Wright4, just my two cents:
It sounds like Grandpa might have an enlarged prostate. When that happens, it squeezes the urethra and blocks everything from flowing out properly. That makes getting an infection way more likely because the urine just sits there and builds up (which is probably what happened here).

The procedure involves going through the urethra with an instrument to shrink the prostate under direct observation. I’m not entirely sure if they’re using laser technology for this at hospitals around here yet. If his condition doesn't allow for surgery, they could always go the stent route—basically just a small tube to keep the passage open where the prostate is causing the squeeze.

Hope that helps. 👋
What do you guys think of Megamin? in Health ·
I remember telling myself the same thing... like, "No way am I letting chocolate win, I'm tougher than this," hoping I could just hold out for a week or so.

Well, that "week" turned into a month and a half of pure willpower. I didn't touch any sweets—no cookies, no chocolate milkshakes... just the occasional tiny bit of dark baking chocolate stirred into my milk.

If only I still had that kind of discipline🙄.

Anyway, I'm looking for a workout buddy for some serious weight loss since summer is right around the corner😁. PM me if you're interested.

I my contacts are pretty soft too... they're 👍 .

My eye doctor even suggested I wear sunglasses when I'm out in the sun while wearing my lenses (which, obviously, I immediately used as leverage to argue that I needed a new pair of shades 😎 , and it actually worked).

My source is reliable... (I could probably even bug my mom to get the full story; she only gave me the results, and I'm pretty sure there wasn't any official paperwork involved).

My mom was telling me about this study one of her friends was doing, and apparently they noticed a higher rate of epilepsy among people who were mixing that stuff.

I don't know why you're getting so obsessed with the Doppler effect.

I don't think you have much standing to complain about a CT scan since you aren't pregnant.

Every diagnostic test comes with a price tag, and some carry side effects too. Usually, doctors start with the easiest, least invasive, and cheapest options first (if they just sent everyone for a CT or an MRI to scan them all, we'd be in trouble). But why would you put someone who just has the flu or is perfectly healthy through a CT? It’s just a waste of money, and it makes the wait times even longer for the people who actually need it.

Jack Harris3, you're probably right—if things stayed just like this, I guess you'd be happy. I'll head to the doctor tomorrow and let everyone know how it goes.
