Diet Coke in Health ·
stormycyclist13 said:Coca-Cola Light doesn't make you fat, and it isn't toxic either...

Sure, maybe it won't put on pounds directly. But honestly? So many people I know who live on diet soda just can't seem to drop the weight. And that whole "it's not toxic" thing... well, let's just say it's definitely not good for you. No doubt about that part...

Which pills are we talking about here—those "flu fighters"? Please tell me it isn't another antibiotic again...

Susan Hughes85 said:I went to see my doctor today and she put me on Ceclor. I'm also taking some Sudafed syrup and taking Bayer Aspirin twice a day. My boyfriend got his meds from his doctor too, and he was prescribed the antibiotic Keflex. My doctor isn't quite sure what I have yet; she thinks it's probably just the flu, but my head doesn't ache and my muscles don't hurt... at least not yet..

Your doctor sounds like a real gem—suspecting the flu but handing out antibiotics anyway! 😁 And then we act all surprised when antibiotics stop working... It's because bacteria are becoming super resistant due to all this overusing them when they aren't even needed.

I forgot to mention one thing: patients are part of the problem too. They walk into the clinic expecting a magic pill to fix everything instantly. Honestly, if a lot of people actually took care of themselves, they wouldn't even need to see a doctor in the first place. So, you end up with a patient who just has a common virus, and the doctor—not knowing what else to say—just writes a prescription for an antibiotic to keep the patient calm and make them feel like they're actually getting better. Which, sometimes, happens just because of the placebo effect... which is basically how half of these drugs work anyway. Sometimes you don't even need medicine, just a better attitude...

If I’m actually hurting, Motrin is really the only thing I’m willing to self-prescribe. For anything else, I’m heading straight to my doctor. That doesn't mean I think it's okay to suck on Motrin like it's a Tic Tac... 😉

Well... I guess all I'm really willing to touch right now is some Excedrin or Tylenol. If those don't do the trick, maybe I'll try Tylenol again. It feels like Motrin just doesn't really cut it for my pain levels... I used to only take it when I had a fever, but then I realized that isn't exactly the smartest way to go about things... 🙂 Honestly, I only reach for the painkillers if my headache or some other nagging ache just won't quit... even after I've tried my usual "natural remedies," like a cold Pepsi or a Coca-Cola... 😁 I'm pretty sensitive to caffeine. I don't even touch coffee on a daily basis—actually, I don't drink it at all—so it really does the trick when it comes to knocking out a headache... 🙂

👍

Motrin is the only thing I’ll touch...🙂 I know plenty of people who are way too casual about reaching for Tylenol, Excedrin, and all those other drugstore staples.

Those are some pretty wild views to have! Motrin isn't exactly harmless—honestly, you shouldn't even be buying it without a doctor's advice! Tylenol and Excedrin are based on acetaminophen, which can be dangerous, though I guess it might be slightly less risky than acetylsalicylic acid. 😉 You've fallen for the marketing trap... they advertise acetylsalicylic acid so much that you'd think people were just swallowing Tic Tacs!

Flu and viruses are everywhere right now. I think I finally kicked my virus. Hopefully, that helps me fight off the flu too. This is actually the first time I’ve been sick in six years.

The absolute best way to drag out a flu, a cold, or any other bug is taking stuff like Bayer Aspirin, Motrin, Tylenol, or Excedrin (...)! 😉 You should only take those if it’s absolutely necessary, and for most colds and flus, it really isn't. Sure, they might dull the symptoms, but that just makes the illness linger longer. I recently got over a nasty cold (I caught it because I was run down), but I didn't take a single pill this time—and everything turned out fine.

Edward Turner27 said:As far as I know, saccharin is carcinogenic on its own.

Man... You don't know jack shit! 😁The thing is, saccharin isn't considered carcinogenic by itself. The old suspicion was actually about impurities that might show up during the manufacturing process...

I'm not trying to PROVE that Limeade is carcinogenic, I just want to point out the possibility that tiny amounts of impurities could exist in mass-produced Limeade that might be harmful...
It’s not the juice itself, but the additives or contaminants that might crop up during production...

But what are you actually basing this on? Is there any real reason to suspect that? No? Then you could claim any industrial product is carcinogenic because, technically, they all might have traces of something... Even ascorbic acid—Vitamin C. Or Aspirin. Or Advil. Or... Look, you're tripping. Just stop with the nonsense before you dig yourself even deeper into this hole...😉

Edward Turner27 said:I'm looking for some actual science here, but clearly nobody on this board knows the first thing about how citric acid is actually made...

Look—if > isn't carcinogenic (whether it's natural or synthetic), then why are we even wasting time using "scientific principles" to argue whether the artificial version is dangerous? It just isn't. We aren't going to sit around debating what *would* happen if it were toxic, right? That makes no sense. I bet you read somewhere that saccharin itself isn't the problem, but rather those unproven impurities found in certain brands... and now you're trying to use that same flawed logic to claim > is a risk. Out of all the stuff containing >, it's probably one of the safest things out there, maybe second to plain water. Honestly, you'd have a much better time worrying about high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, food dyes, or preservatives. Stop looking for smoke where there isn't even a fire...😉

Edward Turner27 said:I mean, alright... it’s obvious it isn't, but then why all the hype? Why is it being blasted on every news channel in the country a million times over?

What hype though? I haven't heard a word about this... certainly haven't seen it on any major networks.

P.S. Maybe synthetic citric acid (you know, the man-made kind, not the stuff from fruit) has some carcinogens in it? Like, maybe it isn't 100% pure?

Please, don't go there. Just... don't... 🙂 🙂

Edward Turner27 said:I honestly can't believe the whole world is still claiming (TV, newspapers, whatever) that citric acid is one of the most carcinogenic things out there...

That’s what happens when you spend too much time reading tabloids. 😁 I have no idea where you heard that on TV... I've definitely never seen or heard that from any mainstream news outlet—once a buddy tried to explain it to me, but besides that, it’s just stuff you see on forums where someone like you pops up every other day...

Then there was a misunderstanding...😕

Why are you confused? You really don't believe that E330 lemon isn't carcinogenic? Think about how much of it you've consumed in your life... if it actually meant cancer, we'd all be six feet under by now... 😉

4. HARMFUL TO YOUR HEALTH
a) Gut issues caused by E220, 221, 224, 232
b) Digestion problems linked to E338, 339, 340, 341, 350, 461, 463, 465, 466,
found in packaged ice cream brands like Ben & Jerry's: E407
c) Skin conditions from E230, 231, 232, 233
d) Destroys Vitamin B12: E200
e) Raises cholesterol levels: E320, 321
f) Overstimulates nerves: E311, 312
g) Mouth inflammation: E330 is the most dangerous additive (it means cancer)

But then again, E330 IS just lemon acid... so who really knows...😕

Where on earth did you find that?

By the way, maybe take a breath—you're causing a huge stir over one wrong fact. It’s definitely not the first time someone on this board has gone overboard because of E330. http://www.ukfoodguide.net/e330.htm

Yeah, that's exactly what I meant. By the way, check if your office has those sitting discs—they're a little pricier, kind of look like oversized rubber frisbees... give them a shot, they're way better than a standard chair.

My bad—forgot to mention one thing. If you're dealing with migraines because of a misaligned spine, there's really only one way to fix it: seeing a chiropractor. That’s the only way to actually tackle the root cause, which naturally makes the symptoms disappear too. Simple as that. If a crooked spine isn't the issue, then keep looking... Because let's be real, Reiki isn't going to snap those vertebrae back into place! 😉

Matthew Morris28 said:Yeah, obviously my chiropractor is going to crack my back where it needs cracking, and honestly, that’s necessary. But if I’m doing something wrong on a daily basis, all the adjustments in the world won't fix it... you need a lifestyle change.

Just grab a yoga ball, maybe one for $50, and sit on that instead of that recliner. And seriously, go see a chiropractor because you're headed straight for a wrecked spine. Even if you can't help being a couch potato, a chiropractor can definitely help bridge the gap. For me, there was a point where I couldn't even sit up straight anymore—that hunched-over look just became my "normal." I've been seeing a chiropractor for about three months now, and I feel way more upright without even trying. It makes a huge difference... I spend a ton of time at my desk, but I use a stability ball. If I actually hit the gym or did some regular exercises, I probably wouldn't be dealing with any major issues from sitting all day...

Matthew Morris28 said:I've been dealing with migraines for years now. There isn't even some big underlying cause... they just come and go. I've gone through every specialist you can think of. Ophthalmologists, ENT doctors, neurologists, psychiatrists, orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists... you name it. After all the scans and tests and turning things upside down, they basically concluded I'm just prone to them. Apparently, my bad posture while sitting makes it worse, and daily stress is hitting my carotid arteries pretty hard too.

Didn't you miss something there? Especially since you mentioned that "bad posture" thing... You really ought to see a real chiropractor!

Well, I guess it’s time I give a little shout-out to my guy: Dr. Ricky Lee. He’s pretty much the only one in the States doing this—well, AFAIK, though maybe some other local chiropractor picked one up somewhere... He’s got this specialized piece of equipment called the Insight Subluxation station that makes pinpointing spinal issues way more precise. Honestly, there’s stuff this machine can catch that you just won't see through manual adjustments or even standard X-rays. He’s starting to roll it out next week, so I’ll share more details once he gets going...

I’m dealing with constant headaches and yawning like crazy... feels like I’m suffocating from lack of oxygen.
Is there an actual air purifier out there that could actually help me with this?

Well, you said it yourself—you feel like you're low on oxygen. In that case, you don't need a "purifier," you need something that actually generates oxygen! 😉 How is it impossible to get fresh air in there? Maybe if you installed central AC, it could pull some air in from outside through the ducts?

Question about cancer in Health ·
wardancer said:dustycanyon6, thanks. It’s funny how those things only cross your mind once you're already neck-deep in trouble... and by then, it's usually too late. I don't smoke, but man, I have a massive sweet tooth and I definitely don't get enough sleep. And stress? Well, life is just one big stressor, isn't it...

Well, it might not be too late. Think about it—sugar is basically fuel for cancer. If someone keeps loading up on the sweets after getting sick, the disease moves faster and the chances of recovery start slipping away. It's the same deal with pretty much everything else...

The thing about health anxiety is that it actually makes everything worse because you're constantly stressed out. If you smoke—just quit. Cut way back on sugar, load up on veggies (try to go organic if you can), get moving, and make sure you're getting enough sleep. Also, eat plenty of fish rich in Omega-3... (details). You might even find some relief with vitamin E.
