Lump on my chest in Health ·
Sophia Ross78 said:I’m a 38-year-old guy.

About two weeks ago, I noticed this hard lump—it's under the collarbone, just below my right nipple. It’s tucked under the skin, so you can't really see it from the outside, and it doesn't hurt. I haven't felt any tenderness when touching it, either. In these past two weeks, the size hasn't changed at all.

Anyone have an idea what this might be?

Thanks,

Brad

Look, we can sit here and guess what it is—someone might even give you a "solid" answer—but the reality is you're going to have to see a doctor eventually. My advice? Go sooner rather than later. Hope everything turns out fine. 🙂 👍
Pituitary MRI - Cleveland in Health ·
steelfalcon21 said:Hey everyone, I need a little intel 🙂..
I just got a referral for a pituitary MRI, and since we don't have that specialized setup locally, I have to head over to Cleveland.. Does anyone know if I can book this over the phone (if so, what number?) or do I need to show up in person with my paperwork? Also, any idea how long the wait is.. and WHERE exactly in Cleveland is it located—is it near the ER in the city center? 🤔
Bonus question: if they can't see me within 30 days, does that law actually work where I can go to a private clinic and have Medicare reimburse me?

Oh, one more thing—has anyone here done a TSH test? I have to get that done in Cleveland too. How's the wait time there? Around here, you have to schedule bloodwork 30 days in advance, so I'm wondering if it's the same deal over there. 😢
THANKS 🙏

For the MRI, you can't just call it in—you really have to show up in person with your results and your referral, otherwise they won't even take you. As for the wait, it basically depends on how urgent the case is; at least, that was the case for me. The MRI department is in the main building, right on the ground floor (near the ER, just stick to the main entrance). You don't need an appointment for the TSH test. Just make sure you show up at the nuclear medicine lab with your referral between 8:00 and 10:00 or 11:00 AM.
Bone Marrow Donation in Health ·
Brian Mitchell44 said:More specifically, if I wanted to donate bone marrow, for example, what kind of tests would I have to go through? And how risky is the whole process?

I’m asking because I know this little girl fighting leukemia—her parents aren't a match, or something like that. So, I'm genuinely curious about how the whole thing actually works.

Thanks for any insight. 🙂

The fact that you're willing to step up like that for someone else is honestly incredible. There's actually quite a bit of info here on the site regarding organ and bone marrow donation, so feel free to poke around www.hdm.hr/uvod.html

Chloe Ward44 said:It’s just an ultrasound of the carotid arteries—basically checking the blood flow to the brain. It doesn't hurt at all, and it isn't dangerous; the only thing she'll really notice is the cold gel... Just tell her it's nothing to worry about.

Great! Thanks a ton, 😘! Now she can actually relax.
Hey everyone! My grandma has a carotid Doppler scheduled soon. She’s pretty anxious about it and wants to know what to expect, but I’m completely in the dark regarding this specific scan. If anyone here has been through it or knows the drill, could you walk me through how the procedure actually works? Thanks!

neonbear4 said:that’s extremely extreme, I won't start like that because everyone keeps warning me about it

Yeah, that is definitely pushing it. Seriously, don't go fasting—you'll just end up tanking your metabolism even further. Just stick to walking and try not to obsess over food, because you aren't actually eating that much anyway👍.

I know how you feel—it’s tough. Start by tweaking what you eat. Just focus on picking the healthiest options available. Cut out the sweets, and maybe skip the late-night dinners entirely. As for moving around, try walking in the morning before breakfast, but keep a pace where you aren't gasping for air. Stick to flat ground at first. If you need to, just start with five minutes—honestly—but try to bump up the duration every two weeks. Once you’ve built up some stamina, you can tackle hills or stairs, again, staying within that "not breathless" zone. Why walking? It’s easy on the joints, and since your body taps into fat stores rather than burning through carbohydrates, you won't be dealing with those intense hunger spikes. Trust me, just get started with the walking and things will fall into place.
Toxic hair dyes? in Health ·
xionati said:Look, I work as a hairstylist, so let me give you some perspective. There are plenty of nasty things out there that can kill you, but if hair dye were actually as kancerogen !!! as people claim, probably 90% of women would be dead by now...

The truth is, all those toxic products eventually take their toll. Those nasty ingredients soak right through your skin and hit your bloodstream within minutes—they just build up in your system over time, which is how you end up dealing with various health issues, including stuff that's kancerogen !!!.

You only add a tiny splash of lemon juice to chamomile tea for that purpose, so there’s really nothing to worry about. I actually went ahead and double-checked with my pharmacist because, honestly, I wasn't entirely sure myself if it was okay.

Edward Green said:Honestly, I have to wonder how smart they think they are—putting citric acid directly on your hair... seriously? 😁

You only need a tiny splash of lemon juice for this—and don't go overboard, either. You can get away with doing this every week or two, but seriously, don't overdo it. At the end of the day, it’s still a hell of a lot healthier than those chemical-heavy boxed dyes you pick up at the drugstore.

Brian Jackson39 said:All that "all-natural" stuff sounds great and all, but how exactly am I supposed to get golden blonde hair using just lemon juice and chamomile tea? Sounds like mission impossible to me. There’s gotta be some other ingredient involved...

Look, obviously you aren't going to turn jet-black hair into blonde using this method. It’s really meant for people with brown or honey tones—or maybe if you're already blonde and just want to brighten things up. You have to repeat the process multiple times, and you need to leave the mixture in much longer. Let's be real: since this isn't harsh chemicals, it's not like the color is just going to take hold in thirty minutes.

Edward Green said:I find this whole thing fascinating—apparently Palette has twenty different ingredients that supposedly cause ovarian cancer. I’d love to know exactly which amounts trigger cancer, how much is actually present in the dye, and just how high the exposure level really is for someone coloring their hair. Are we seeing more women getting ovarian cancer because they use Palette compared to those using other brands or no dye at all? But instead, we get instant panic—it's always "I use it!" "Me too!" "Wait, what about me?"

Apparently tampons cause cervical cancer, and now bras and deodorants are out to get you with breast cancer... blah, blah, blah. At this rate, we might as well just take the easy way out and skip the prevention entirely.

A ton of stuff on the market is harmful, from hair dyes to pads and tampons. That said, there are more natural options popping up lately, like Hennaplus hair dyes or Natracare products... You just have to do your homework, because plenty of companies slap a "natural" label on their stuff when it isn't even close.

Brian Jackson39 said:Where can I actually find Hennaplus?
I don't recall seeing it at Walmart...

You can pick it up at health food stores or specialty herbal shops. There are plenty of other DIY routes, too—things like henna or various botanicals. For instance, if you're rocking blonde hair, lemon and chamomile can lighten it up, while walnut shells are great for adding some brown tones, and so on.

Brian Jackson39 said:I’m not quite sure which category this belongs in, but it’s definitely a health thing. Which hair dye products are actually toxic enough that they should be pulled from American shelves entirely?
Anyone have any leads?

As far as I know, pretty much all hair dyes are toxic. The only one that isn't a total biohazard—at least in my book—is Hennaplus.
MRI scans and copying medical reports in Health ·
ladybug_lover said:A friend of mine went to Sunrise for a brain MRI, and they found a tumor. She had surgery at the Mayo Clinic, and then two months later, she went back to Sunrise for another scan. Both times, they only gave her one single hard copy of the actual images. Right now, she’s undergoing radiation at a specialized cancer center. They could only remove about 20% of the tumor during surgery because of where it's sitting—it's in a pretty tricky spot.
By some stroke of luck, I got in touch with an old high school friend who works at Johns Hopkins Hospital in the US, and they are actually doing cutting-edge brain tumor research right now!!!
She's surrounded by top-tier experts—researchers, neurosurgeons, the whole nine yards...
She consulted with them, and they've been incredibly kind about offering to review my friend's scans, give their take on the situation, suggest treatment options, and even see her in person.
But here's the catch:
I need to get those scans over to them on a digital medium (like a CD) or send the originals. My friend asked the folks at Sunrise if they could just burn a CD with her head scans or print out copies, and they told her it was impossible.
Since she only has that one set of images, we can't exactly mail them off—she needs them here for her ongoing treatment (plus, you know, for peace of mind so she isn't left with nothing).
So, my question is:
Does anyone know if MRI scans can be copied, or
Is it actually true that getting a CD or copies is impossible???

Thanks everyone for the help!!!

I am so sorry to hear about your friend. You can definitely get copies made, but honestly, it usually just depends on whether the clinic feels like being helpful. I've had no trouble getting mine before.
Power walking tips? in Hobbies & Leisure ·
Sandra Stewart74 said:Anyone here actually getting out there for regular power walking sessions?
So, for the last three months, I’ve been trying to stick to a routine—walking about three or four times a week for an hour at a time. Sometimes I even toss in some one-pound dumbbells just to feel like I'm actually doing something. I’ve seen some people online claiming that walking on an empty stomach first thing in the morning is the absolute gold standard, but I’ve always been more of an evening walker. Is there actually a difference, or am I just doing it wrong?😕
So, where are we all walking, how long are you actually putting in the miles, and—more importantly—is any of it actually paying off? Give me the details.
🙂

Every single morning, right after I roll out of bed, I spend an hour doing low-intensity aerobic work—basically just some light walk aerobics. Then, to wrap things up, I head out for a quick 30 to 40-minute stroll in the evening. If you’re looking for a tip, try walking every day, but do it first thing in the morning—that's when your body actually starts tapping into fat for fuel.

An ice pack could definitely work, too. Hope you're feeling better soon!

I wouldn't know for sure—I'm no doctor—but you might try putting some mashed potato compresses on the swelling and wrapping it up with a cloth or something. That worked wonders for me!
