Wait—how did you end up seeing him? If I recall correctly, he mostly specializes in geriatric oncology, right?

By the way—I’d love to hear what other ladies on this forum think about him if you've had any experience—because I've heard such wildly conflicting things about him... everything from being an absolute top-tier expert to, well, not really being all that, to put it mildly...
Eating in the ZONE in Health ·
silentbison42 said:Regarding protein powder—Dr. Grbac Gredelj informed me today that Veggie Fuel is available at the Twinlab store over in El Paso—though I actually picked up some protein powder from Helix the other day, so my Veggie Fuel purchase will have to wait a few weeks. I haven't run into Steve yet, but I am looking for him.
I am personally interested in Omega-3. I simply cannot find any fish oil that is 60% purified, so I have been taking three capsules of the 30% variety—does anyone happen to know where I might find the higher concentration?

Steve's greeting

Steve—there is some available at that herbal pharmacy near the start of Martić's, I believe it costs about $13—it comes in drops, if I recall correctly... and it lasts quite a long time.
Headache help! in Health ·
I suffer from those same debilitating headaches—essentially whenever I’m on my period, lacking sleep, skipping meals, or missing my caffeine fix, among other things.

What is my routine? — I make sure to eat, get enough rest, drink coffee in the morning to manage my blood pressure, and stay active with exercise.

Massages also tend to help quite a bit.

When the pain hits, I take some Motrin—I try to take it the moment the discomfort begins.
Weight Loss Challenge... in Health ·
restlessmarlin6 said:I am attempting to stick roughly to the zone... I see some improvement in my skin and hair so far 🙂 but not yet in my Killica 😢 though hopefully soon.

On another note—I have been eating snack sticks for dinner for about 5 or 6 days now... It isn't that I am forcing myself, they just really suit my taste 🙂 nice and crunchy... Does anyone know how healthy or harmful they are—specifically regarding calories? A friend of mine lost quite a bit of weight eating nothing but those sticks.

If you are eating snack sticks, you aren't in the zone. Or rather, if you eat *only* those sticks. According to the zone principles, every meal should include proteins, fats, and carbohydrates; those sticks are just carbs—and likely unhealthy fats at that.

I have been on the zone since March and have lost 12 pounds. I was 134, now I am 121. I am 5'3" and every single pound shows—not to mention those 12—so I could still lose more. I am extremely satisfied with this way of eating. In the beginning, I followed it strictly—to the letter—but I have loosened up a bit, because frankly, you cannot always eat perfectly. It all boils down to avoidance—or reducing the intake of sugar, bread, dough, and rice—essentially those types of carbs—and the results follow. You need to exercise too, but nothing extreme. Before the zone, I used to work out much more and couldn't lose anything; now, over the last few months, I hardly exercise at all, aside from the occasional walk, and yet I am maintaining this weight. Truly, the Zone is the big leagues.

rustycanyon50 said:So—I have the exact same height and weight as you... I can grab low-rise jeans without any trouble—mine are the Diesel Hush DS model, size 25/34.

Number 25???? Oh dear Lord...

I believe that was roughly around fifth grade...—if my memory serves me correctly.

Well done... truly.🙏
Kidney issues/health in Health ·
Yes, good luck. Thank God your mother-in-law brought you some Robaxin instead of that B-vitamin supplement you mentioned in your first post.

I read that your husband went out to get the B-vitamin—and I have to wonder, since when does a vitamin help with kidney spasms?
I just keep learning new things on this forum...

good luck once again!👍
Understanding Medical Physiology: Prolactin Levels in Women's Health ·
I can't really offer much guidance regarding pregnancy questions—but, in my own experience, I once had elevated prolactin levels during a hormone panel when I wasn't pregnant. After that, I ran the same tests twice more and everything was within normal ranges. It turns out prolactin can spike for various reasons entirely unrelated to pregnancy—stress being one of them.

"Elevated prolactin levels (Medical Condition) are found in about 0.4% of the general population, and in 9–17% of women dealing with reproductive issues. The causes of Medical Condition include:

* physiological states: postpartum (breastfeeding), and especially stress! (which is why people often call it the "stress hormone")
* pharmacological states: the use of certain medications—primarily psychotropic drugs—as well as other substances (16%)
* pathological states: microprolactinoma (36%), hypothyroidism, PCOS, liver cirrhosis, and chronic kidney failure. "

You can find more detailed information on this at the Mayo Clinic.

For me, Motrin works wonders for headaches—honestly, better than most other painkillers out there.

Gerald Palmer3, try eating a decent meal first and then lie down before taking a pill.
However, if you’re running a fever, it might be some kind of virus—in which case, Motrin alone won't cut it. You should have someone give your neck and cervical spine a firm massage; personally, I find that helps immensely by improving circulation toward the head. 👋
Herbalife thoughts? in Health ·
Elizabeth Perez57, I am in complete agreement with you.

I would certainly offer you some unsolicited advice, Karen Stewart—if I were incredibly thin myself. In that case, I wouldn't even be reading these posts. However, I have discovered something that works quite well for me—it is entirely natural—and that is the keto diet.

There is an extensive discussion regarding this over at the Women's Corner; you should take a look. I truly hope you find it helpful.

Karen Stewart said:Yes—the shake actually keeps me feeling full, and my body gets all the vitamins and minerals it needs until lunch... which is a far cry from traditional fasting where you're just running on empty.

I don't want to get too deep into it, but I was simply saying that it works for ME.

And I don't plan on doing this forever—my metabolism is slow enough as it is... I'd end up a frail old woman if I did. 😁

Besides, if I fail, it won't be the first time. :buca: 🙂

Well, at least I tried... 😢

Good for Herbalife and companies like them when there are people willing to drop $100 on their supplements. (That's roughly what a single dose costs in New York City).

And if I fail, it won't be the first time. :buca: 🙂

Don't you think that might have something to do with the way you're trying to lose weight? 😛

Karen Stewart said:I personally use Herbalife and it works fine for me.

The shake replaces one or even two meals—it covers all the essential vitamins and minerals my body needs. I drink two glasses of warm water before having the shake itself. My routine involves having it in the morning and again at night, while I eat a proper, solid lunch. 🙂

And yes—I managed to lose about 15 pounds in two months... which is plenty for me, since I have no interest in those "LOSE 10 POUNDS IN A WEEK" type of diets.

Ultimately, it's all highly individual... everyone reacts differently.

Please check back in with us once you start eating actual breakfast and regular meals again instead of just relying on shakes. Right now, you are essentially only eating lunch—and no matter how much you eat during that meal, I highly doubt you are consuming more than 700 calories a day.

You have likely slowed down your metabolism—just wait until you try to introduce real food back into your diet...

I truly hope you don't end up gaining 30 pounds back, because that is usually what happens when you starve yourself. You are essentially tricking your body right now because the shake provides a false sense of fullness. But, of course, you cannot sustain this indefinitely.

Herbalife thoughts? in Health ·
The other day, I listened to someone raving about Herbalife—but once she actually started explaining her routine, I realized just how unhealthy it really is.

Apparently, breakfast consists of drinking two or three glasses of water along with two of those "compresses"—or tablets, as they call them. Who knows what's actually in there? Most likely some sort of vitamin-mineral supplement.

Then for lunch, you pour down another half-liter of water with those two pills, and suddenly you can eat whatever you want (though, honestly, I wonder how much anyone could actually eat after chugging half a liter of water... I just don't know)

And dinner follows a similar pattern.
Naturally, you lose weight because you aren't actually eating anything.

OF COURSE, the weight comes right back once you return to a normal diet and stop using the products—it’s just the classic yo-yo effect.

Honestly, stick to the rules of engagement. I lost two pounds following the Zone diet over three weeks—and I still eat plenty of fruit, vegetables, meat, dairy, fish, and everything else.👋
Betty Wright64 said:Um... I am thirty-one years old.
It isn't that my midriff is showing at work—it is simply that I cannot find a single pair of pants that actually reaches my ankles. 😉

Yes—I admit that this whole thing about the pants sounds incredibly unrefined. My apologies for assuming you were some young girl; looking back at your posts regarding "Syndrome: Older Woman, Still Fierce," I see my mistake. 👍
Betty Wright64 said:A few months per year?
And what kind of pants are we talking about—the ones that end at the navel?
I don't own any. 😉

Oh, come on, Betty Wright64—we aren't getting any younger, so we can't exactly show up to work with our midriffs exposed. We're getting old, I suppose... 😢
I didn't undergo the procedure myself, though my best friend did. She loved it—for about two months during the summer. After that, she couldn't even wear high-waisted pants without feeling uncomfortable—belts were a nightmare...

She grew tired of it pretty quickly, and honestly, it isn't much of a novelty for a boyfriend either—after a few months, it just starts to feel like the "new normal."

She also dealt with some issues regarding irritation and healing; her skin always seemed a bit more inflamed around that area than the rest of her body.

After a year had passed, she decided to let everything heal naturally.

So, you decide. If you think those few months a year are worth the hassle—do it.
Looking for a specialist... in Health ·
I have visited two dermatologists in NYC. Generally speaking—according to some doctors—American dermatologists aren't always the best; they say the less promising students tend to go into that specialty.

However, my own experience has been more or less fine. The first dermatologist I saw (the one you can see with a referral) was Dr. Gold Sviben Radovčić at the Student Health Center. She is supposedly an expert, but she’s a bit rude—relatively unfriendly and painfully blunt, which catches you off guard—I went to her regarding hair loss.

Because of that, I only went once. 😁 The second dermatologist, whom I have been seeing for a long time now, is Dr. Mary Cook at the private clinic Dermangio—it's located near the wall (by market square). The initial consultation is $67, while follow-ups are 150. I believe you can also visit if you have private health insurance (like Addenda or something similar). I am sooo satisfied with her; my condition has improved significantly, and she is a true professional—extremely kind and lovely.
