The obsession with the "perfect rematch in Hobbies & Leisure ·
I was watching some sports highlights last night and it got me thinking about how much we crave the exact same matchup happening over and over again. It feels like every time a big rivalry heats up, the media and the fans just demand a repeat performance immediately.

I get the appeal, obviously. There is something deeply satisfying about seeing two titans go head-to-head again to see if the previous result was a fluke or a true statement of dominance. It’s like a cinematic sequel that you actually want to watch.

But lately, I’ve been feeling a bit of burnout with it. Sometimes I feel like we lose the excitement of seeing new players step up or different styles clash because we are so fixated on settling old scores. It feels like we're stuck in a loop of "who's better?" instead of just enjoying the skill on display.

Do you guys prefer seeing the same heavy hitters face off repeatedly, or do you find yourself rooting for the underdogs to break the cycle?

There are actually several groups on Facebook where people driving empty vans or semi-trucks head that way and are looking to pick up some extra cash along the route.
$257 = €444? Where on earth did they get those numbers from?
I’m not entirely sure if you actually clicked the link, but it looks like they offer direct shipping to Italy without any extra customs fees or duties, which would then make the transit to the States much smoother. They probably have some sort of service or warranty in place for that kind of thing, too...
I managed to stumble upon this after just two minutes of digging around online, and I’m fairly certain there are plenty of other shops out there that might even offer better prices...

Thanks for the suggestion, but I actually managed to sort it out... turns out the culprit was the graphics card. Since I have both a monitor and a TV hooked up to the GPU and set to duplicate my display, the card somehow got completely tripped up by the conflicting resolutions. Everything looked perfectly fine on the TV, but the monitor was just spitting out this grainy, garbled mess. I couldn't fix the resolution through Windows settings at all; I had to jump straight into the AMD Catalyst Center to manually recalibrate everything. I scoured some US tech forums looking for a similar fix, but everyone just kept pointing me toward creating a restore point or attempting a Windows repair. Anyway, thanks for the help. Mod, feel free to lock this thread... ☕
Service Control Manager error: Event ID 7001 in IT Support ·
Hello,

Since yesterday, I've been wrestling with a rather stubborn issue when trying to boot Windows. Everything seems perfectly fine if I opt for Safe Mode, but whenever I attempt to select Windows normally, things take a turn for the worse. After the initial Windows loading screen, I’m left staring at the desktop background—just the wallpaper, really. There are no icons, no taskbar, nothing. It’s quite an empty view. To make matters more frustrating, if I try to hit Ctrl+Alt+Del, the screen just goes black. I’ve had to resort to memorizing the physical button sequences on my chassis just to navigate through the shutdown or reboot menus.

Looking through the event logs, this is what I'm seeing:

I did run a system scan while in Safe Mode, but unfortunately, it didn't find any errors or issues.
I haven't installed any new software in the last few days, so I can't say for certain that a specific installation triggered this sudden decline.

My specs:
Gigabyte M52L-S3P
AMD Athlon II X2 250
6GB DDR2
ATI Radeon hd 3800 Win 7 64
Win 7 64bit

If anyone here has encountered a similar headache or happens to have a solution, I would be immensely grateful for your help...

Thanks,

I was hoping someone might give me an honest assessment of this rig. It’s been used by my ten-year-old for the last three years, and honestly, it hasn't missed a beat—everything still runs perfectly without any issues.
To be fair, the "tech experts" who originally put this together decided to install a 32-bit version of Windows on this machine, which seems like a rather questionable choice to me, but I suppose it is what it is.

Maria A.(idg)-Sha-Paris Saint-Germain (09/30, 8:45 PM) daje@4,10 - I simply can't pass up odds this high. Given that Di Maria has found the back of the net in three of his last five outings, he seems quite determined to prove the doubters wrong after Manchester United suggested he wasn't quite cutting it. To be honest, my gut tells me that Paris Saint-Germain is looking significantly sharper right now than Shakhtar Donetsk.

I’m leaning toward a yes at 1.55 for that one—likely a three-way outcome if we're looking at the spread. If you take a moment to look back at the last few matchups, it becomes painfully obvious that nearly every single game ends with both teams finding the back of the net. It’s essentially a statistical certainty at this point.
The odds for QPR to win are sitting at about 1.45 right now, assuming we're looking at a 1-2 scoreline. The folks over at QPR are fighting tooth and nail to claw their way out of the relegation zone, and honestly, they’ve been looking decent lately; they’ve managed to find the back of the net in five of their last six outings, which is more than most could say. Even Everton hasn't been much of a defensive powerhouse recently, conceding about the same amount. Looking back at the head-to-head history, whenever QPR gets that home-field advantage, they always seem to find a way to puncture Everton's defense. On top of that, Everton looks absolutely spent after grinding through their European schedule, so I wouldn't be particularly surprised if QPR pulls off a bit of an upset today.
The match between AC Cesena and AS Roma is currently underway, and as it stands, I’m looking at an away win for Roma at odds of 1.80, given they are holding a slim 0-1 lead. It feels like one of those games where the momentum is just starting to settle, but I'll be watching closely to see if that early advantage holds up.After a string of disappointing losses and a frustrating draw, Roma is desperately due for a win. Honestly, I think facing a side like Cesena—currently sitting way down in 19th place—is exactly the kind of opportunity they need to finally sweep up all three points. Looking at the recent stretch, the Romans have managed to pull off a victory in four out of their last five outings, so a bounce-back performance feels overdue.
Looking ahead to the El Clásico matchup this Friday at 9:00 PM, I’ve been weighing my options on the outcome. It’s always a heavy fixture, but I’m leaning toward a result where Real Madrid walks away with at least a point. I’m placing my money on the Double Chance—specifically X2—at odds of 2.25. My gut feeling is a tight 2-1 scoreline, perhaps favoring the visitors just enough to snatch something from the wreckage. There seems to be an overwhelming amount of chatter surrounding Barcelona lately, though if you ask me, the hype feels a bit misplaced. It isn't exactly like betting on a massive underdog with 4.8 odds just for the thrill of it; they aren't some miracle team waiting to happen. With Modrić back in the lineup, the rhythm and engine of Real Madrid have finally returned to where they belong. I recall a similar narrative unfolding last season—everyone was claiming the squad was struggling and lacked direction—only for them to run headfirst into Bayern Munich in the Champions League and get absolutely dismantled 4-0. History has a funny way of repeating itself when people start talking too much.
Costa D. suggests a play on Hul-Che at 17:00 on March 22nd—specifically looking at the spread where they cover by two and then some, paired with a goal being scored, sitting at odds of 3.70.Hull seems to have this recurring habit of running into trouble against Chelsea, and after sitting through two consecutive draws, they’re desperately due for a win. It looks like they'll be leaning heavily on Costa to find the back of the net if they want to turn things around.

Ibrahimović(idg+u)-Bar-PSG (10.12. 20:45) 2+daje@19,1 (3:1 + daje)-I really think this one is worth a look; you simply don't pass up a +2 goals line at 19.1 odds when Zlatan is involved. It feels like a massive undervaluation of both PSG and the ever-phenomenal Zlatan himself. After showing their strength by taking down Barca at home, PSG looks dangerous, and even though Zlatan sat out for a few matches, he came back against Nantes and immediately hammered home two goals...

Maribor(zžk4,5)-Schalke (10.12. 20:45) više@1,55 (0)-This is shaping up to be a high-stakes affair. Schalke is praying for a win here—hoping Sporting slips up so they can snatch that second place spot—and Maribor certainly has plenty of incentive to pull off an upset and secure some European football for next season. If an early goal lands, we could be looking at a complete shootout, especially since both sides have a couple of heavy hitters ready to run wild on the pitch.
NK Maribor(ck)-Schalke 04 (10.12. 20:45) da@3,60-I actually didn't realize you could bundle yellow and red cards together like this; it's a clever little play. The match is being officiated by Marciniak, who isn't exactly shy about reaching for his yellow card. In fact, over his last eight European matches as the primary official, he’s handed out five reds. My gut tells me if an early goal changes the momentum, things are going to get heated very quickly.

Ronaldo C.(idg+u)-Bas-ReaM (26.11. 20:45) 2+daje@1,85 (0:1 + daje)-Given how much Messi keeps breaking records lately, I suspect Ronaldo is feeling a bit more motivated than usual; he’s almost certainly going to find the back of the net at some point tonight. Considering he didn't manage to score in that last matchup against Liverpool, there’s a certain sense of urgency for him to make up for it if he wants to overtake Raul’s mark of 71 goals. That said, a Real Madrid victory seems pretty much a foregone conclusion, especially after they absolutely dismantled their opponents 5-1 recently and have been looking unstoppable in domestic play...
Basel(zžk3,5)-Real Madrid (26.11. 20:45) više@1,70 (5)-The referee for this one, Mažić, isn't exactly known for being hesitant when it comes to reaching for his cards—particularly in European competition. If you look at his last ten matches, not a single one has wrapped up with fewer than four cards handed out. Even in the previous meeting between Basel and Real, we saw four yellows come out... ☕

1. Looking at their recent history, the last four or five head-to-head matchups have all gone over 2.5 goals, which is really the only reason I'm even considering this one.
2. In their last nine or ten meetings, both teams managed to score in almost every single instance.
3. It’s much the same pattern as my previous picks; over the last seven games, both sides scored, and six out of those seven ended in a 1-1 draw, so I thought it might be worth a little attempt here. PiK X@1.87 (1-0/2-0)

Liverpool vs. Real Madrid (Oct 22, 8:45 PM) 2 @ 2.00 (0-3)
Liverpool/vs Real Madrid (Oct 22, 8:45 PM) Yes @ 1.95
Ronaldo C. (idg) vs Liverpool/Real Madrid (Oct 22, 8:45 PM) Yes @ 1.80- Liverpool just coming off a match against QPR where even Rodgers admitted they didn't really earn the win; ever since Suarez left, this isn't quite the same Liverpool side that was actually contending for the Premier League title last season. On the other hand, you have Real Madrid, who bolstered their midfield with Kroos—and frankly, he’s been a more significant upgrade than Alonso ever was. Liverpool is feeling the absence of Sturridge, which is a massive blow to their lineup, whereas Real can lean on James or Isco to fill the void left by Bale. As for how "solid" the Real defense actually is, one only needs to look at the goals they conceded against Ludogorets and Basel; if those teams found a way through, I suspect Liverpool will manage to find a gap as well. Every headline is focused on Ronaldo, and rightfully so—with El Clasico looming, he’s chasing down Raul’s record of 71 Champions League goals. He’s scored against everyone under the sun, yet he has never managed to find the net at Anfield, which I imagine provides him with plenty of personal motivation. Since joining Real, he’s netted 54 goals in just 53 Champions League appearances... plus, he’s scored in each of his last nine away matches... ☕

I have to admit, this looks like a rather solid lead to me...

Liverpool (3.5) vs. Real Madrid (2.2) (Oct 22, 8:45 PM) Over 1.5 goals @ 1.60 (1)-Beyond the fact that we have an Italian referee on duty—someone like Nick Rizzoli, who hasn't finished a single one of his last eight matches without handing out at least four yellow cards—there’s the sheer physicality to consider. You've got the inevitable clashes between guys like Pepe and Ramos versus Ballotelli, or Škretl against Lovren, and then there's Ronaldo squaring off against Benzema. Not to mention the tactical fouls from players like Gerrard, Modrić, Illara, or Kroos when they're trying to stop a counter-attack mid-stride. It's bound to get messy.

The United States vs. England match is set for October 14th at 6:00 PM. The odds for a home win or a draw sitting at 1.60 feel somewhat optimistic to me, especially considering we're looking at that narrow 1-2 scoreline margin. It’s one of those scenarios where you find yourself weighing the statistical probability against the sheer unpredictability of the game. We’re expecting a massive turnout for this one—probably around 5,000 fans, which is nearly the entire 6,000-seat capacity of the stadium. On the roster front, we’ve had to sit out Čorić, Župarić, and Pavičić, but we’ve brought in Halilović, Groupec, Šimunović, and Galović to fill those gaps. Meanwhile, the Americans are bringing back Hughes and Keane to bolster their lineup. Look, the US squad is undeniably strong, but I have a feeling our younger guys might just pull off a draw, if not an outright win, especially with the home crowd behind them and Halilović playing a bit more inspired football at this level than he does with the senior national team.

Spain vs. Mexico (21-21) | October 14th, 6:00 PM 1@1,25 (1-2)The Spanish squad certainly boasts an intimidating roster when you look at the names on paper—players like Isco, Sergi Roberto, Morata, Muniain, and Munir carry a lot of weight. They managed to grind out a scoreless draw against the Mexicans during their last away match, but quite frankly, I don't see them standing a chance against the Americans today. If you look at the recent run of results, everything seems to be pointing toward a very different outcome for this matchup.
The United States U21 national team. A total shutout. A complete and utter demolition. To see a scoreline like 4-0 is always a bit sobering, isn't it? It’s one of those results that leaves you wondering exactly what went wrong on one side and how things managed to click so perfectly on the other. Such a lopsided affair.
The United States U21 squad. The score stands at 3 to 2, following that intense matchup against Canada.
It’s hard to wrap my head around a scoreline like that—it’s essentially a total collapse on the pitch. Seeing a 1–6 blowout is always a bit grim to witness, isn't it? It feels less like a competitive match and more like a complete breakdown of structure and morale. You have to wonder what went wrong in the locker room or during the tactical setup to allow such a lopsided result to unfold. The United States U21 national team.
The United States U21 squad fell short in their latest outing, coming away with a 0-2 loss. It wasn't exactly the performance we were hoping for, though I suppose there’s a certain quiet dignity in a clean sheet for the opposition, even if it leaves us looking a bit stagnant on the pitch. The United States U21 squad.

The U21 match between the United States and Canada ended in a narrow 1-0 victory for the visitors. October 14th, 8:45 PM: San Marino vs. Switzerland More than 1.25 (0-4)The Swiss national team has been on quite a rough patch lately, suffering through a string of defeats that’s hard to ignore. Their recent loss against Canada was particularly frustrating; they played their hearts out, but luck just wasn't on their side this time around. After two matches, they've tumbled to the very bottom of the standings—it's a bit embarrassing to admit, but at this rate, even a team like San Marino would be looking down on them. 😁 Given that recent loss to the Canadians, I suspect Coach Miller isn't going to leave anything to chance—no rotation, no resting the starters, nothing. He’ll likely go all out against San Marino today, aiming to absolutely dismantle them just to pad the goal difference as much as possible.

Wilson E.(idg)-DinZ-Ist (13.09. 19:00) not @1.70-I’ve been chewing on this for a bit, and it actually looks like a plausible scenario. Wilson has mostly been deployed out on the wing lately, which hasn't exactly afforded him many opportunities to find the back of the net, and even when he has found himself in prime scoring positions, his finishing has been somewhat lacking. I suspect the manager might opt for some rotation given the current density of the schedule, but there's another factor at play here too: we've been dealing with relentless rain here in Seattle for about a week now. It poured incessantly all through yesterday, so the pitch is bound to be in pretty rough shape, and I wouldn't be surprised if the visitors manage to snatch a few points from that kind of conditions.
