bluebison8 said:You sound like someone who thinks they're way too sophisticated for us mere mortals and our "bad" movies, so I really hope I don't run into you at the theater during the sequels so I can just watch them in peace.

Us versus them, right? Look, you're taking your own personal taste a little too personally here, and honestly, you seem to be missing the point that other people have their own opinions too. Okay, fine, this is a total tangent, but whatever. "Oh, EQsomething is trash," or "Yeah, Underworld is garbage." The more people weigh in on a specific project, the more its actual objectivity and true "value" start to surface... everyone has their own taste and their own unique way of watching a movie, whether they've realized or developed that perspective yet or not. And yeah, if you want to know if these movies are crap to me? Yeah, they are. 😁

Equilibrium is incredibly overrated. For such an amateurish project that doesn't even look particularly special—and I haven't even watched it that much—it was actually a breath of fresh air to read the "hate it" comments on IMDb after seeing all those unrealistic glowing reviews... let's just say it puts things more in "their" place and lets you promote them from different angles... 😁

Underworld really doesn't offer anything new (and what it does offer isn't even well-done, which is a big deal), the story is dull, and Blade (II) is better; the action sequences are poorly directed compared to something like The Matrix, where they were handled much better... it's just a totally boring movie that I personally see no reason to watch... maybe someone else will, which explains the positive comments, but not me. So, if anyone out there shares a similar view, I'd definitely appreciate some blunt criticism or similar takes on the film... 🙂
redowl90 said:I haven't scrolled through all the posts yet, but I'll just say that Ultraviolet is a terrible movie...

TERRIBLE...

Elaborate... 🙂

Do you at least like the clips or the trailer or something? 🙂

Or maybe those kinds of movies just aren't your thing 😈
Brian Williams said:What does Equilibrium have to do with this topic???

Oh, quite a lot, actually. 🙂 The director and screenwriter behind Equilibrium, Kurt Wimmer, is also the director and writer for Ultraviolet 😁 I wouldn't go as far as saying they're super similar, but hey, that's the fact 🙂 Since both Equilibrium and Underworld share some DNA with current projects, and I hadn't seen them before, I decided to borrow them for a watch and share my thoughts here... 🙂
I recently sat down with Equilibrium and Underworld. Honestly, Equilibrium is just straight-up bad trash. You've got these painter-assassins, messy directing, a weak script, and those Matrix-style fight scenes... it honestly felt like some amateur, low-budget project. Maybe there was a tiny bit of potential buried somewhere in there, but I don't see it. On the flip side, the trailer looked pretty awesome, but the actual movie is a completely different beast and I didn't stick with it much. Regardless, I'm actually really looking forward to Ultraviolet 🙂

As for Underworld, it was just a poorly directed, boring dud that I have zero interest in seeing a sequel to. I watched it, but I was definitely less engaged with it than I was with Equilibrium...

I'm really looking forward to this one finally dropping; I think I'm starting to get what the director was aiming for here. 😁
Personally, I’ve got my sights set on Ultraviolet 😁 Every single time I watch the trailer, I find myself liking it more and more... I just can't stop hitting replay... 😁

I actually went ahead and downloaded the track, Jem - 24... and honestly, what else is there to say?

Hot Chicks are back in action... again 😁

So, we've got Charlize Theron as Aeon Flux, Milla Jovovich as Violet, Keira Knightley as Domina "I am a Bounty Hunter" Harvey, Kate Beckinsale as Selene, or—just a little bit longer now—Natalie Portman as Evey Hammond?

Who would you pick? 😱

All five? 😱

None of them? 😱

There are 5 upcoming movies where the common thread is basically hot chicks taking on the world... It feels like one of these pops up every other day lately...

Aeon Flux is based on that animated series from back in the early 90s that originally aired on MTV. It follows an assassin who, along with her crew, tries to take down the government. But when she goes after the big leader, she uncovers some massive secrets... and yeah, the whole thing is set about 400 years in the future. Trailer didn't really blow me away...

Ultraviolet tells the story of a girl hit by this vampire-like disease called Hemophagia that nobody can decode. It leads to people genetically modifying themselves, which gives them enhanced motor skills and intelligence—not exactly a bad thing, really—but society still rejects them. While the world sits on the brink of war between humans and the modified ones (since they basically have to stay young), the caring Violet tries to protect a nine-year-old boy whom the government has flagged as a major threat and wants eliminated... Trailer looks kind of goofy, but also extremely cool. It's from the same team behind Resident Evil (which was the only video game movie that didn't disappoint me, even if it wasn't anything groundbreaking...), and it looks very similar—except it's set in the future, and instead of zombies, it's probably mutated soldiers or robots or something. The plot feels more like Blade or X-Men though...

Domina is about a female bounty hunter, Domina Harvey, and it's actually based on true events. Tired of the high life in Los Angeles, Domina decides to walk away and become a bounty hunter. She soon falls under the protection of veteran hunter Ed Mosley (Mickey Rourke) and his firm, quickly getting herself deep into the business... but things get messy when a gang of masked men starts a string of armed robberies, leaving the mafia, a crazed TV producer, the FBI, and a terminally ill child caught in the middle of a total mess... Check out this intense trailer.

It might be a bit unfair to include Kate Beckinsale and Underworld: Evolution in this list since it's a sequel to Underworld, but hey, it's here for everyone's enjoyment. The movie continues the war saga between vampires and lycans. As the conflict heats up, Selene and Michael (Scott Speedman) try to uncover the secret of their origins while trying to stop the villainous Marcus, a powerful elder monster who's attempting to resurrect his brother, William. I haven't seen Underworld, and honestly, I don't really feel like watching it (even if the plot is slightly intriguing), and according to...In the trailer for the sequel, it feels like Kate Beckinsale is stepping back into another "Van Helsing" type role. Honestly, she was incredibly hot in Van Helsing, but the movie itself was pretty mediocre—the only real highlight was probably just seeing Hawt-Kate Beckinsale on screen. I don't think I'll be catching this one (unless the original somehow wins me over...).

Finally, V for Vendetta. Based on the graphic novel of the same name, the story follows a masked vigilante—let's call him "V"—who uses guerrilla tactics to fight against a totalitarian regime. Along the way, he manages to liberate Evey Hammond from secret police custody, and she soon becomes his ally... The trailer didn't really grab my attention, but that tagline caught my eye: "People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people." Plus, knowing the Wachowskis are behind the script and production definitely adds some weight (assuming I stick to the first Matrix and ignore the sequels or Bound).

That's about it for now. 😁

What do you guys think?

Are any of these on your watchlist?

Child's Play in Movies ·
Absolute disaster. Just awful.

I had such high hopes for this sequel. I was really expecting a hilarious dark horror comedy, but instead, this turned out to be the absolute WORST entry in the Child's Play series 😢 (honestly, the others aren't even close 😉 to being this bad 🙂; I just rewatched Child's Play 2 recently and, personally, I think it's a freaking masterpiece 😁). It feels way too digital and over-processed—it honestly comes off like one BIG BAD JOKE (more like an internet midquel). It’s just bad. TRAGIC.

It didn't come anywhere near my expectations. You can check out the DVD trailer right here: http://www.seed-of-chucky.com/home.html

SOOOO good 👍 👍 👍 👍

Just watched it after a long time, and honestly, it hasn't lost an ounce of its quality. I actually picked up on a few little details I missed before...

Then I went ahead and watched the sequel, and man, it was freaking awesome too!!!!!! It’s actually even more intense than the first one!!!!! 👋 That scene with Gale & Dewey :brrrr: :horror: And that part in the car.... ah. Man, there's a lot to unpack there.... 😁

Gale & Dewey, I LOVE THEM 😍

I really should have watched the third one sooner. I think it's a bit weaker overall, but it's still great—I love it 😁 It has a slightly more open sense of humor, and honestly, there are some legendary scenes in there... Dewey & the knife 😂 ah, just thinking about it gives me chills....

The third one is packed with so many references; the more I watch it, the more I enjoy it. 😍

Adam Harris7 said:Do you see it as just another slasher, or do you think it's a more significant moment for the genre (like Friday the 13th or Halloween)?

It's a major moment in film culture, period. Kevin Williamson wrote an incredible script, and Wes Craven brought it all to life perfectly....

Adam Harris7 said:How much do you appreciate Scream?

I love it to death : D

Otherwise, Halloween feels so repetitive... maybe the second one is a bit better.... but I couldn't even bring myself to watch Friday the 16th... Scream is just so wonderfully dynamic : D
Walk the Line in Movies ·
Look, I’m not really into country or R&B or whatever, so I didn't even know who Johnny Cash was until this movie started getting pushed (though I did recognize that "Ring of Fire" line). And honestly, they market this thing as this massive sweeping romance, but it hits you later on that it's primarily a BIOGRAPHY.

I mean, what else would you want from me? Should I have read every single book ever written about Johnny Cash before sitting down to watch the movie? (Though maybe that wouldn't be such a bad idea 😁).

But anyway, it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter how much anyone knows about him. If you want to go see the movie, just go. It’s not like having a PhD in his life story is going to change how good the film actually is...
The Final Destination Trilogy in Movies ·
So, the movie finally hit theaters here in the States this week. I'm honestly crossing my fingers that it makes its way over to us super fast, but until then, I wanted to share a few thoughts from some users I've been following...

" Wow, what a rush...

Final Destination 3 was honestly incredible. Unlike the second installment, which felt like it was lacking a bit of direction, this one actually brought a cohesive story back to the table. I also felt like the death scenes totally raised the bar compared to both Final Destination and Final Destination 2. Each kill felt unique—most of the time, you're sitting there thinking you know exactly how someone is going to go, only for them to die in some other completely freakish, unexpected way instead. Even the ending was executed perfectly. It was such a blast seeing this in theaters, and it’s pretty wild that even after three movies in the franchise, you’re still left craving more.

" Honestly, it’s better than ever!!!

Final Destination 3 really caught my eye. A few friends and I sat down to watch it around 8:00 this morning, thinking it would be more of the same as Final Destination 1 & 2, but man, were we wrong. After the credits rolled, we actually wanted to jump right back in and watch it all over again! It’s such an exciting, fun ride. If you're into Horror Suspense, or if you're looking for a solid Thriller and Sequel, you definitely need to check this one out.

" Final Destination 3 rocks.

I honestly think Final Destination 3 stands out as the absolute peak of the franchise. It was definitely on the more gruesome side, which is exactly what I was looking for—I loved every second of it. If I had to rate it, I’d give Final Destination 3 a solid 3.5 stars. The whole thing just rocked! I'm actually considering a rewatch soon. Plus, those death scenes were so creative; they really make you look at everyday objects and feel a sudden urge to stay far away from them!

" Honestly, this might be the best one yet! You really have to see this with a crowd to get the full experience.

This is such an awesome body count flick that dives straight into the action with death scenes that are absolutely incredible! Honestly, I can't recommend this enough—you have to see it in a packed theater. There’s nothing like the energy when the entire audience goes wild after every single kill. Trust me on this, I actually caught it three times before it even hit wide release. The whole movie feels like one giant Rollercoaster ride; it's just pure, exciting fun, and you'll walk out of the theater with a huge grin on your face.

" If you're looking for something good to watch, I'd definitely suggest diving into the Final Destination franchise if you're in the mood for some Horror Suspense. Personally, I think Final Destination 3 was one of the best in the series—it’s got that specific vibe that really sticks with you. It can get pretty intense, but honestly, the whole thing is just such an Outstanding Movie when you want something high-stakes. If you haven't seen them yet, starting with Final Destination 1 & 2 is probably the best way to go to get the full experience. Enjoy!

This is such an awesome flick to sit down with. You’ll definitely find yourself on the edge of your seat the whole time. Honestly, it's totally worth the watch... you really have to appreciate the clever concept they pulled off here. Plus, the Visual Effects are simply superb.

" Outstanding Movie

Outstanding Movie. It really hits that same high note as Final Destination 1 & 2. Honestly, the Visual Effects are just incredible—top-tier stuff.
The Visual Effects are a huge step up compared to Final Destination 1 & 2. Honestly, it’s a much better experience than sitting through King Kong.

" Wow...

As far as trilogies go, I think this served as a pretty solid conclusion.

" Honestly, if you look at the whole trilogy, I’d say this one is the best of all three.

Personally, I think this one stands out as the absolute best of the trio. It had some really clever nods back to Final Destination 1 & 2, too. While there were definitely a few funny moments sprinkled in, the film as a whole was just packed with nonstop suspense.
Honestly, looking back at everything I've watched lately, it stands out as one of the absolute best movies I’ve seen all year.

" Honestly, this one is awesome—definitely a must-see.

I just walked out of the theater, and man, what a ride. Seriously, that was incredible. It’s one of those movies that just refuses to let you relax—you're stuck on the edge of your seat from start to finish. There isn't a single dull moment in the whole thing.

" Honestly, I’m just feeling really, really disappointed.

I had such high hopes for this one, honestly. I was genuinely excited to sit down and watch it, but man, it left me feeling pretty let down. Don't get me wrong, I thought Final Destination was a great concept—it was a really fresh, interesting idea back then. But then the second one came out, and I struggled with it because it felt like they were just hitting the same beats as the first film. Now, after sitting through this third installment, I feel like it’s actually taken a step backward. The death scenes felt totally predictable to me, and the vibe in the theater was just off; instead of being tense, people were actually laughing during the kills. If you're someone who lives for that specific kind of gore, then sure, go ahead and check it out. But if you're looking for that genuine suspense where you're sitting on the edge of your seat, it's definitely not worth dropping 12 bucks on.

" Final Destination was actually pretty decent.

Fair enough, but just don't go setting your expectations too high.

" Off the hook!

Honestly, it was awesome. There were a ton of similarities to the first film, which usually isn't a great sign, but after how much the second one sucked, you're practically begging for some nostalgia. In this case, though, catching those little nods to the original was actually pretty fun. I was also relieved that they didn't throw in a random cameo from Alex Browning just for the sake of it; it would have felt totally pointless. Anyway, I thought the lead actress was one of the best I’ve seen in a horror flick lately. She really stepped up and owned her role. Plus, she wasn't just some helpless, screaming maniac, which was a huge plus in my book. As for the kills? They were way better. They weren't cheesy like some of the stuff in the second movie. They were absolutely gory, which was so cool. It's awesome. Go see it.

" THE WILDEST ONE YET

This movie is Outstanding Movie! The Visual Effects and the death scenes are just incredible. I'll be honest, the plot wasn't exactly top-tier, but the experience was excellent. The acting was solid, too! Overall, it’s such a great watch—trust me, you won't regret seeing this! "

" gives me the chills

I've watched all the Final Destination films, but this one definitely takes the cake! The original was alright, and the second one was pretty creepy, but this latest entry in the Final Destination series is on a whole different level of scary. I was actually shaking when I walked out of the theater. It was super intense and featured plenty of gross, bizarre deaths. I really wonder if they'll make another one? "

" Awesome Movie!! Totally worth the ticket price!!!

This has to be the best out of all three!!! I'm telling you, this one is pure fun!! My jaw was on the floor through the entire film!!! I can't wait to go see it again!"

" Super Gory and Surprising, though the plot feels a bit thin.

Basically, Final Destination is about ironic, gruesome deaths happening to teens who narrowly escape fate, and the third one follows that formula perfectly, just with much more gore—they really lean into the kills this time. Every FD movie has that brutal opening death sequence; while the Rollercoaster scene in the third one was a little underwhelming, it was still well executed. The deaths are unpredictable and honestly kind of darkly entertaining. The directing felt a bit off this time, and the acting was just okay. I'm definitely picking up the DVD, though, because those death scenes are too good to miss a second time. "

" it was good

The story was decent, but it didn't feel connected to the previous two movies. That said, the way these characters meet their ends was way more creative than in the earlier films. I definitely jumped once or twice during the screening."

So 😁 I hope any interest or hype you guys had about this movie has only grown even more... 😁

Walk the Line in Movies ·
Alright, first things first—I have to admit that I’m generally not a huge fan of biopic movies. It’s not because of the people they’re actually about, but rather just the genre in general (I think I watched maybe 15 minutes of Mr. Ray before turning it off...). However, there was so much hype surrounding Walk the Line that I really expected something massive from it. By the time it finally hit our local theaters—not too late, but not exactly immediate either—I found myself walking away with some pretty mixed feelings...

That said, once I realized James Mangold was the director—the same guy who did Girl and Interrupted, which I absolutely love—I decided to stick it out until the end. I figured he might SURPRISE me, regardless of how the movie felt in the middle...

So, let's talk about the film itself...

It’s okay, but honestly, it’s also kinda Crappy ( I didn't see it coming that Jun would agree to that plea on stage, and the ending felt a bit flat. ). It feels a bit tedious, overstretched (even though it jumps through several different time periods/segments; sometimes I wished they had shown more, sometimes the transitions worked, and other times I wanted to see something in between them), and it's just too long. On the flip side, the acting is excellent (actually, EXCELLENT)—especially Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon.

What really breathes "freshness" into the movie is the superb—truly superb—performance by Reese Witherspoon. Her opening scene is packed with such incredible energy, even if she settles back into her typical Reese-forma later on. Not that it’s a bad thing, since she’s a fantastic actress (and she always seems to pick great roles 👍 ). Plus, Reese has a beautiful voice (it might not follow all the strict vocal rules, but it's surprisingly wonderful 😍 ).

Joaquin Phoenix is also top-notch.

My rating: 08/10 🙂

Bottom line: You can probably skip this one in theaters (unless you happen to absolutely love this kind of stuff, then maybe don't 😁 ), and just wait for the DVD release. The movie didn't quite meet my specific expectations (it isn't quite Moulin Rouge... it's more of a decent biography without being overly bloated, but I wish James Mangold had poured more passion into the relationship between Johnny and Jun Carter; he hits the mark sometimes, but other times I was craving so much more...), but it didn't disappoint or let me down, either...
Scary Movie 4 in Movies ·
casualotter21 said:I don't get it. Just because some people don't like Scary Movie doesn't mean they only watch "intellectual" cinema, right? I actually think I know why: it’s just easier to dismiss critics by claiming they "don't get" the humor rather than admitting there might be much funnier movies in that genre. For instance: Top Secret!, Airplane!, Blank pistol, or Dude, Where's My Car? — none of those are any smarter than Scary Movie, but man, they're funny to me. Scary Movie isn't.

Some people just dig Scary Movie films across the board because they love how the jokes overlap, but Scary Movie is MUCH more than that 😁 and hey, what you see is what you get :P To be fair, the sequel was pretty shallow; they basically decided to chase a bit more love because the original was such a massive hit, but it lacked that certain metaphorical touch. In reality, about 99% of it just boiled down to shallowness, superficiality, and being downright offensive (especially regarding different movies, which doesn't even feel like parody anymore). But the Third part of dark film is great 😁 Okay, yeah, there are some shallow jokes here and there, but there's so much else that makes it awesome for me. The problem starts when people assume anything involving those big-name blondes is degrading and not worth their time (aaaaaaaghhh give me my 2 hours back!!!!!, well honey, you took them yourself, 🙄 ), when in fact, they're actually making fun of that exact concept. The Wayans brothers go overboard sometimes, but other times (and honestly, more often 😍 ) They hit the MARK! 😁

I wasn't huge on Top Secret!, but props to them for being ambitious. (I didn't love how they handled the animals...)

Airplane! also has more mediocre jokes than actually successful ones. (I liked Top Secret! better)

Blank pistol is excellent 😁

I can't stand Dude, Where's My Car. Charlie Sheen wasn't hilarious to me at all.

Basically, it sounds like you lean more toward those stereotypical parodies that poke fun at action flicks—since you seem to actually enjoy action movies—whereas teen horror isn't really your thing...

Your taste 😉
Scary Movie 4 in Movies ·
Man, the Scary Movie films are absolute riot! 😁 Personally, I think SM 2 is kind of a miss. It feels like there are way too many random characters thrown in just to insult them rather than actually parodying anything, which honestly just wastes screen time. But hey, that’s just how the Wayans brothers roll—sometimes they overdo it, but other times they are TURBO HILARIOUS. 😁 I still love them, though. 😍 That’s why the Third part of dark film is so great; I highly recommend grabbing a copy from the library or wherever!

I am obsessed with Cindy Campbell and those wild looks she gives. 🤣

Even though the hype suggested the 4th installment would dive into superhero movies, it looks like Scary Movie 4 is sticking to the classic formula. We're looking at parodies of a massive blockbuster, a heavy-hitting horror-thriller, and an M. Night Shyamalan flick—specifically War of the Worlds, Saw and The Village. 🤣

The concept seems a little thin, but I'm crossing my fingers that it turns out okay... 🙂

The movie hits US theaters on April 14, 2006.

You should definitely check out the official site: http://www.scarymovie.com/

and... take a look at the trailer 🙂

Scary Movie 4 is also going to poke fun at some showbiz craziness, like Tom Cruise appearing on Oprah, and get this—Dr. Phil is actually taking over a role in one scene (specifically during the bit Laughing at films: The Grudge, The Village, War of the Worlds, Saw, Saw II, Million Dollar Baby, Brokeback Mountain)! :O

Look, I honestly have no clue how the production process actually went down—whether the director was chilling in the Caribbean while the crew did all the heavy lifting or what... but for me, the movie was outstanding, simply outstanding. 😁 And yeah, let's be real, most American films are absolute garbage. Now, I haven't seen a ton of them, so I shouldn't be making sweeping generalizations, but of the ones I have watched, almost none of them clicked with me... well, up until Matanić. Even then, "Love you" was way too much for my taste, and "One hundred minutes of glory" felt a bit over-the-top in its directing style, though Sanja Vejnović was excellent, even if I didn't sit through the whole thing.

Basically, it feels like American cinema is going through some kind of renaissance right now. 😍

"That wonderful Split night" wasn't really my thing either, but the last one that actually caught me off guard was "House of hanging." It’s incredibly evocative. It isn't an American production, but it comes from a similar cultural sphere...

Absolutely masterful filmmaking!!!!!!!! 👋 👋 👋 👋 Huge props and nothing but praise for Philip Šovagović! !!!!!!!! 😁 I’m really hoping for a rich DVD release and some great reception overseas. 🙂

The second film that definitely deserves this kind of recognition is without a doubt "What to be Iva record 21st." 😁

I don't know, most American films feel pretty disastrous lately, but this one is easily my number one 😁 And "Eva" is just in a league of its own. 😁
House of Sand and Fog (2003) in Movies ·
Honestly, this movie is garbage. There is absolutely zero logic behind the plot. This woman loses her house just because she wasn't checking her mail for a few weeks—even though they supposedly sent plenty of notices about the legal proceedings and changes coming her way. And honestly, how much unpaid debt matters? If you lose your house, you lose your house. It’s your own fault. Period.& the end 🙄 The only reason she’s fighting to get the place back is to keep up appearances for her parents and pretend everything is fine. The whole thing was just Soul Proprietor; I could barely even finish watching it. 🙄 Why is she still obsessing over the house when it isn't hers anymore? 😕 And why act so shocked when she sees the new owners redecorating? That’s their house now, so what’s the big deal??? The movie lacks any kind of believable foundation. Just a stupid movie.

Also, fun fact: the producers of the show 24 basically scouted this movie to cast Shohreh Aghdashloo and her cinematic son, since they play relatives in the fourth season of that show too.

I have to say, seeing Shohreh Aghdashloo pop up in The Exorcism of Emily Rose was actually a nice little surprise.

This movie is total crap. 🙂
