A massive win for American cinema!!! in Movies ·
Look, I just really care about what's happening in American cinema. It’s just that, so far, I haven't actually seen it reflected in an American movie... though it's not like our films have that dark, moody, Burton-esque vibe going on anyway... 😁 😁

At the end of the day, a bad product is just a bad product—no matter how much people try to convince me otherwise by saying, "Hey, it's ours, so it can't be that bad." 😁 😁

Why does it feel like movies from Mexico or Canada are better? Can we even compete with them? Right now, we're just making mediocre stuff.

nobody says anything:
Based on my movie watching habits—an average American indie isn't any worse than an average American blockbuster.

Wait, are you saying a bad American movie isn't worse than a bad local flick, or vice versa?

Look, I can sit through a crappy American movie from start to finish, but a crappy local one? No way. Maybe that just means I've got some subconscious issues with the States, or maybe it just means the movie was such absolute garbage that I couldn't even finish it.

The best part was when Ogresta basically said that after gaining independence, America produced way more great films—like, don't go overboard praising me, I'm just one of many amazing American directors and filmmakers, whatever you want to call them. 😁 😁 😁

How does that saying go? The smaller the country, the bigger the assholes...

Douglas Edwards2 said:Hebeno is such a solid flick about some gritty guys... Patric & Liotta are killer—this has gotta be Liotta's best work since Goodfellas, and I don't think I've ever seen Jason Patric in such great shape.. Story-wise, it drags a bit toward the end; it was a perfect 10 until those last 20 minutes hit and things dipped slightly... kind of forced twists in the plot (I felt the same way about the ending of Training Day, though Narc is better overall), but honestly, nothing that ruins the vibe... For me, one of the standout scenes is when Liotta tells Patric about his late wife—they're in the car, it's winter outside... you catch the sound of crows, just subtle, amazing background music.. It feels real, like these characters are living right on the edge... oh, and there are a few pretty convincing fight scenes (Liotta gets a little wild when he loses his cool and starts swinging 😉 )

8.5/10

👍

Liotta is high-strung as hell! 👍 🙏 🙏 🙏
I’d even compare his intensity to Joe Pesci in Goodfellas.

Great movie. 👍

The ending worked fine for me. I mean, after The Last Samurai, any ending is good, right? 😬

And man, that Training Day finale was awesome—not sure why you guys didn't dig it (you and Jessica Nguyen85).

Anyway, a really pleasant surprise. 👍
Kill Bill Vol. 1 in Movies ·
dustyscout53 said:People say it’s the second masterpiece that defines an artist. Tarantino hasn't even delivered his second one yet.
Look, Charlie's Angels II is a fun flick. Kill Bill is fun too. But honestly, it feels like the first seven pages of this thread are just one big hype session for Kill Bill. So why didn't Full Throttle get seven pages of praise? Probably because it lacks that "signature touch"—or at least that's what Douglas Phillips4 would tell ya.
I’m just not a fan of those "Tarantino outdid himself" takes. If he keeps trying to outdo himself like this, he'll be filming Four Rooms in a couple of years. 😁 😁

Man, I thought I dropped a gem there. Hey, casualotter21, I see you replied, but you're stuck on Full Throttle—which I only brought up in passing, anyway.

I'm still waiting for Tarantino's second real act, but it looks like you guys already found it. Honestly, I envy you if that's how you feel... because I definitely don't. 😎 😎

Jessica Nguyen85 said:I mean, that part where he explains all those little tricks of the trade—measuring and re-measuring basically everything and every woman in sight? Pure gold. Total action movie vibes. 😁

Yeah, fair enough... I guess the overall vibe kind of washes out the good bits. And honestly? Maybe I just care too much about the lack of cleavage. 😁 😁

Still, I'd definitely be happier if they made more movies like this—yeah, totally! But man, there's just something missing, and I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe one day I'll actually figure it out and give some real feedback, but until then, nothing. 😁

Jessica Nguyen85 said:Though, let's be real—R. D. totally carries the dialogue.

Honestly, the dialogue was the biggest letdown for me. I actually rented this movie just for the script—not that I have anything against good dialogue, I love it, really—but the writing here just missed the mark. Not trying to go on a huge rant or anything... maybe I should grab a few examples? Let's just say I wasn't exactly blown away. I was really hoping it would hit harder.

I really expected way more from this subject matter. Just because it’s indie doesn't mean it works—this felt like an indie dud. It's like the director is too afraid to actually take a swing at the audience, you know? This thing leans way too hard into the mainstream, whereas something like Roger Avary's 😬 Rules of Attraction—man, don't kill me for even making that comparison—goes to the complete opposite extreme. And Lost in Translation is just too soft, but in a totally different way. Ugh, maybe it's time I start writing my own screenplay. 😁 😁 😁
Bottom line? It's nothing special. What about you guys? Tell me what you actually loved so we can get a real debate going. 😁 😁

That's a movie. Beautiful Girls is a movie, those are actual films. Rodger Dodger isn't quite there. Just my humble opinion.

So, the boobs have already been brought up, but I gotta mention them again. They move—like, they actually sway. They’re totally natural! Watching them bounce is like watching seagulls out on the open ocean. Seriously, what incredible breasts! Look, you can't really have "bad" boobs, but these? These are top-tier. Any other pair would just give up in frustration when these pass by. Boobs!
The movie has some kind of plot, someone kills someone else, whatever—but hey, you gotta find a reason to justify those boobs, right?

what's the lineup for next week??

Next week you'll get today's paper plus a preview of tomorrow's along with it. Things are gonna get crazy on Wednesday since they're dropping Thursday's edition—the one with all those lottery numbers. Though, honestly? With all these massive jackpots hitting lately, it’s probably not even worth buying the paper... but hey, people still don't realize that, right? 😉

Laura Roberts61 said:Did I just totally miss the media blitz, or was there actually nothing going on?

There was an ad campaign—you know, that one where someone walks into a store and it turns into some kind of robbery scenario? Yeah... pretty bad execution if you ask me. And even if you did buy it back then, what about now? My New York Post shows up a day late, so you probably wouldn't be able to pick it up until tomorrow anyway. 👍
By the way, what kind of movie is All Dogs Go to Heaven?

I watched it last night, and honestly? I don't think I've ever been that bored...
The movie isn't terrible, but after all the hype, who knows what I was actually expecting.🙄
Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson 😍 are great, but the whole thing is just way overrated.
But hey, if the army of critics says it's good, then I guess I'm just wrong, right? 😉

Don't beat yourself up—the movie is totally overrated. If I had to sum it up in one word (which is all you need for a flick like this), it would be: fluff. The movie is nothing but pure fluff.
Adaptation in Movies ·
Mikilegendo!care! said:Kaufman makes it super clear that he’s trying to dodge those tired Hollywood screenwriting clichés—you know, the whole "sex, drugs, and violence" combo used to prop up a messy final third. As the movie winds down, it feels like he realizes he can't pull off the script he originally envisioned... and that encounter with McKee is the turning point for that entire third act, especially when the guy tells him, "The last third of the film is what matters most; that's what people remember."
Basically, it's all about the main character losing his internal conflict—remember their chat after the seminar? "A movie can't exist without conflict." Because he loses that inner battle, you end up with that specific kind of ending in the last third of the film.

Another little thing to consider is that the whole movie actually follows the screenwriting rules laid out in McKee's book, even if it's poking fun at them the whole time.
So, the movie is incredibly self-reflective and a bit full of itself, but they don't even try to hide it, which is why it's so much fun. 🙂

Man, I didn't even catch that until my second viewing—when he first talks about the Adaptation and says he wants it to be a movie about flowers, not some classic flick filled with chases, guns, and a romance (basically foreshadowing that controversial Hollywood third act). On the rewatch, I was dying laughing every single time Cage popped up on the TV screen. Such a hilarious movie. Honestly, I haven't laughed this hard since, I don't know, Empty Gun, Hot Shots, or Collinwood. You can't even tell which brother is better. Just a total blast. 👍 🙏 🙏

Arthur Martinez7 said:Remember how everyone lost their minds when Kylie Jenner did that duet with Cave Johnson? Man, she’d just been doing those little Nintendo tracks before—then she drops one legit song and suddenly everyone’s obsessed.
Sadly, it was a total one-hit wonder. 😁

If you actually think Cave called up Kylie just because he loved her voice, you're being a bit naive, don't you think?
I mean, why do you think Woody Allen keeps casting himself in his movies? You really think it's because he thinks he's a great actor? 😉
Betty Bennett10 said:I wouldn't go so far as to say Tom Waits doesn't have a voice—he just has this really specific style. That's what I mean when I talk about someone having a certain "mannerism." It's not really my cup of tea personally, but he definitely has a voice.

Is that Pratt Penn on your avatar, or is it Bob Dylan? Honestly, I think Bob Dylan is a pretty terrible singer.

Thank god there's more Natalie Portman and less Dylan out there. The world would be a much better place, don't you think? 🙂 🙂
Betty Bennett10 said:It honestly feels like people just have this deep-seated need to tear down anything that’s actually special.

Calling Natalie Portman's nonsense "exceptional" is a pretty bold move—and a little insulting to her, if you ask me. Look, we aren't here to throw insults around, lady. 🙂
P. S. Banderas said:Why don't you guys all just head back over to the politics section? 😁

Don't go trying to push us away 😲 😲
Look, we've got some pretty cool posts here from the USA, Drita, myself, and Arthur Martinez7. No need to be such a grouch. 🙂
So, what's your take on the whole situation?
fadedfalcon60 said:See, that’s the part everyone here seems to be overlooking. Have you noticed how you don't hear galeb played at parties or stuff all that often? It’s because galeb isn't just some basic three-chord song—if you try to play it exactly like the record, it’s actually pretty tricky. 🙂 But hey, don't sweat it, I know the tune so I'll play it for you. -) Like there's anything I wouldn't do for you, right? Even Natali dizdar stood up for her 😁 😁 😁 🙄 👋

Man, my screen is practically melting from all this cheesiness... 🤮 😁

I guess people figure out if someone has a "Natalien" personality using the same tactics they use during Miss USA pageants. You just ask a woman if she'd save starving kids in Africa. If she says yes, boom—she's got a great personality.

Dabogda he married her, then you could meet her yourself. 😁
Betty Bennett10 said:Saying someone can't sing because they're just some spoiled, brainless brat is... well, quite the brilliant argument, isn't it?👍 Bavo!

And who's actually saying that, sweetheart? I don't know—maybe we should stick to four-letter words and simple sentences for the folks struggling to keep up? 🙂
