Go ahead and drop your own review! We've got a one-person jury ready to grade them—the best (and most eloquent) writer gets a shoutout.

Wild. How does that guy not feel any shame writing a review like that? 😳
Such a macho act—and he works at a local corner store. 😁 😁

northerncrane4 said:Looks like Taylor's critique really hit home for you.

And it did—I mean, I love it when people actually feel something after a movie and can articulate that experience to others. Anyway, that's my two cents... might as well give this thread one last shot, right?

Joe, he doesn't need some knight in shining armor to defend him on this thread. If you actually want to know anything about me—just hit me up via DM? I'm not too stuck up to chat with fans. 🙂

I tried to get some actual insight out of you regarding the movie, but honestly? Nothing. Look, if you want to act like a total film authority, go for it—that's fine. I’ve got my own areas of expertise too. But here's the thing: once you start calling yourself an expert, you always end up attracting a bunch of yes-men who just nod along to everything you say. And that’s where it gets messy—you actually start believing that some weak, cliché, surface-level critique is somehow more valid than everyone else's just because it came from "the expert."
It’s like when I tell my wife she’s being ridiculous and then actually start believing it myself.
That's just not how it works.
The whole industry suffers for it.

Anyway, we can talk about MetLife once the DVD drops.

So, Taylor Swift says there’s a huge difference between just glancing at MetLife and actually *seeing* it. Honestly, based on what northerncrane4 wrote... did you even watch the movie? Or did you just see a headline about trans people and rush to drop some cliché, pseudo-intellectual take? 🙂

northerncrane4 said:Classic indie vibes. You pick some "massive theme" and then just execute it in this totally bland, cookie-cutter way. Honestly, the lead actress is the only standout—everything else, from the unconvincing supporting cast to the lifeless script and sterile directing, feels like it was specifically engineered for that festival crowd. 👎

Huh, talk about a minimalist critique. Funny enough, I was just reading one of Taylor Swift's pieces in Vice this morning that was... well, let's just say it wasn't exactly minimalist.
What have we learned from movies? in Movies ·
It’s all about knowing what to prioritize—and what to leave alone. You’ve got those secret agents who switch up their drinks but stick to the same woman every time, then you have the ones who always order the same cocktail but move from one lady to the next... James Bond falls right into that second camp.
Then there’s that third group of spies who try to juggle both the drinks and the women at once—but they usually don't live long enough to tell the tale. In this line of work, you really have to know where to draw the line and what actually matters.
That’s exactly why James Bond is still kicking.
So, I once bought some Levi's jeans. Then I saw this ad, and honestly? I just set them on fire. Right in the middle of a cemetery. I was definitely the most alternative kid in my eighth-grade class—can you imagine?
Am I overweight? in Health ·
coppermaker77 said:Hey—just wondering, am I actually overweight?😕 So, I'm about 5'5" and 128 lbs—totally flat stomach here, but my legs feel thick and my hips are pretty wide! Does that make sense? Anyone know what a "normal" weight should be for me? I’m honestly thinking about dropping 20 lbs... is that going way too far? And if so, any tips on how to actually do it? Thanks so much!

Hey, you guys in the health group—do me a favor and go check out coppermaker77's profile... just to see how clueless you all really are? 🙂
vividmason5 said:Maybe our amateur filmmaker here is just a die-hard fan who’s still got Robert Rodriguez quotes looping in his head from back in the day—something like: It doesn't matter if you've shot a single frame; if you consider yourself a filmmaker, then you're a filmmaker. And nobody can tell you otherwise.

Exactly! 👍

I see Bruce Lee being mentioned. Honestly, the guy was just living his dream—can't fault him for that. You guys clearly don't have dreams quite like his, though I doubt he'd even know you exist. Life's just one big illusion anyway, right?

The real struggle with amateur filmmaking is just breaking through to a wider audience.

But hey, the internet is moving faster than ever. Look at how the Arctic Monkeys are basically rewriting the script for the next Robbie Williams, or whatever the hell his name is lately.

Personally, I think quality eventually gets noticed—doesn't matter what kind of art (or job) you're doing.

If you're actually good, someone's gonna spot you. And those things usually happen through the weirdest channels.
bluecobra9 said:alright, I'm out of this debate.

The point is, the guy was actually asking for feedback. It shows he cares about the context of his project and wants some backup—you know?

I tried, ran into some pushback, and honestly—whatever😁

And you're giving up way too easy. Just because you hit my disapproval doesn't mean anything, right? It might feel like everyone's against you, but that's just me talking—probably because I post a ton. Just keep at it, no hard feelings.
Amy Mendoza25 said:From what I've seen—just watching from the sidelines—maybe 10% of people who approach you are actually being real. The rest? They're just there to suck up a little or play nice.

Anyway, dustyscout53 probably knows more about this than anyone—he could tell you all about those nights at the local dive bar reading blogs... if I remember right, everyone showed up with their own crowd that would cheer loudly at first and then buy him a round of beers. To be fair, dustyscout53 is different from that pack—he actually knows how to write.

Okay, even if I don't know how to write—which isn't really the point, right? Thanks for assuming I do, though. 😁 If you ever need a screenwriter, hit me up via DM. 😁

I don't see anything wrong with wanting to show off your work and have someone clap for you. Or getting a free beer out of it. Or having people hit on you.

Is the issue that this kid is keeping it quiet? Like, he's filming for "higher purposes"? I don't know—if he just said he films because it's fun and he loves it, I'd be all for it. I love people like that. OF COURSE he’d also want someone to buy him a drink, or cheer for him, or have some girls flirting with him, or land a steady gig at HBO. Who wouldn't?

But this whole "Oh, don't do that, it's too hard, it requires sacrifice..." thing...

Sorry, but that kind of talk seriously drives me crazy. If the kid wants to bash his head against a wall, who are we to stop him? Let him go for it—it hurts, sure, but we were all there once. And honestly? We still are.

And nobody finds it any easier than us does...

p.s. I definitely got the least amount of applause at the bar.
bluecobra9 said:not sure who you mean—mind giving us a heads up?

Including you, too. Amy Mendoza25, northerncrane4, you... just a whole crew of talented people...
Let’s clear the air here—it’s pretty obvious the industry types are totally against this kid filming his own stuff. They claim they’re just looking out for him, right? Giving him "advice" because they know how much it hurts when talent goes unnoticed. Because they’ve all been there... banging their heads against the wall. Oh, please... they made their little indie films, but did they actually get any attention? Did anyone even watch them? Even though they were convinced they were some kind of geniuses just because they watched a few classics and read a couple of books...

Oh, man... what a life, huh? (c) Drito
Amy Mendoza25 said:Plus, Mom and Dad will be beaming with pride... and if they aren't, maybe some chicken will drop dead or something—hey, at least your friends might actually respect you for once? And if that fails, well, you'll finally grow a spine. And if all that still doesn't work out, hey, maybe you'll just get enough cash from selling a DVD to buy a new one...

You projecting?
Honestly, I feel like America is one of those rare places where the amateur series production is actually top-tier. Actually, scratch that—I can’t even remember the last time anything felt truly professional being filmed here in the States.

just that typical Jarmusch-like minimalist brilliance... plus the chemistry between the characters? man, that's actual acting—forget those "method actors" and all that other nonsense...

oh yeah, I've decided—I wanna be Tom Waits when I grow up

anyway, gonna go light one up 🙂

There's a Tom Waits biography coming out soon, being translated by some total amateur. 😘 just an amateur. 😍

Looks awesome though, absolutely loaded with his stories. The author didn't try too hard to bore us with himself, he just let Waits talk about Waits through his own anecdotes. Total treat. 😍 👍

Anyway, did I ever tell you guys how I took down a grizzly bear with my bare hands?

darkpanther24 said:Look, you can obviously take whoever side you want. It's great that he made some serious cash—no argument there—I'm just saying there are way classier ways to announce it if you're gonna brag. Honestly, the first person to actually get nasty in this thread was even earlier when they started calling people suckers and naive.
Plus, if you're the one starting a thread—especially if you're asking for advice—you kind of gotta have thicker skin for the "experts" jumping in, right? He asked for help, not a lecture.

Man, I totally get where he's coming from personally. Dude made a killing on Apple stock and just wanted to flex a little. That's just human nature, isn't it? You hit a big win and you get hyped. Then eventually life happens and you take a hit, and suddenly you're feeling a bit defensive. 😁
