I've got an alternative in New York City—I'll probably just take my results over to the cancer clinic, and I'm also looking into Rib. Check your PM, sent you a message!
Karen Torres17, I'm crossing my fingers for you, but I gotta say, if things haven't totally changed at Firul and you're counting on Dr. Vrdoljak, maybe start looking for an alternative elsewhere—ideally somewhere in New York City. My dad saw him once, and it meant endless waiting, like 5 or 6 or even 7 hours just for a two-minute checkup where he barely said anything because he was too busy taking calls, signing papers, or chatting with someone else through the patient. He might be a huge expert, but honestly, with how overworked and disorganized they are there, it’s probably better for your health and your sanity to find a doctor who actually has enough time to look you in the eye.
My mom basically single-handedly funds a couple of massive pharma giants like Pfizer; she lives on pills, and honestly, her favorite thing is hitting up those new CVS self-service aisles to just go wild through the aisles 😁 😁 And man, you can't even convince her most of it is total junk, because she thinks those flashy commercials are way more legit than anything I say. It sucks, really—they just lure seniors into blowing their whole Social Security check on these "miracle" supplements 👎
brisknomad6 said:man, but you seriously don't know what a *real* killer headache feels like if you're just trying to fix it with Advil 😉
That’s exactly what I was trying to say! I guess! 😁
So, staying on topic—I've dealt with some pretty nasty pain in my life, and I guess I really don't want to make that any worse. I'm not exactly a pushover who just gulps down meds for fun, but I'm also not gonna wait until I'm literally dying before I try to help myself, you know? The only real exception is my migraines. I definitely jump on those right away, since catching them early is way more effective than waiting for the pain to totally wreck me!
Aside from my daily meds for that chronic thing I deal with, I probably only pop like two or three pills a month, mostly just for some back or muscle aches. So, I guess it’s not really that much, maybe?
Honestly, I'd much rather just pop a pill from a big name like Pfizer that I know'll kick in fast, instead of waiting around for some bat wing salve or herbal tea to actually do anything. I guess it's just easier! 😉 Yeah, that's just the pain part. For everything else, I usually try to tackle my health stuff with better food and lifestyle tweaks, you know? I guess it actually works pretty well most of the time!
Back when everyone was mass migrating from America to far-off lands at the turn of the century, doctors on those long ocean voyages noticed something weird—mostly adults were getting seasick, while kids seemed totally fine. Turns out, those folks coming from the northern and western parts of the US were packing plenty of gingerbread cookies, which the kids were snacking on constantly. And hey, ginger is still a super legit way to fight nausea today!
Maybe give it a shot. 😉
P.S: placidjackal36, go take a stroll! If people want even less nausea, they can just tie a red bandana around their big toe, so I guess you should try to be happy about that 😉
I watched it tonight and honestly, it hit me right in the feels.
It’s totally possible that since I’ve dealt with losing someone in my own family, I’m seeing this story through a different lens than someone who hasn't. But I think he did such an amazing job capturing that whole spectrum of grief that just crashes over you when something like that happens.
The only thing is, the ending felt a little... I don't know, empty? Maybe it's just because I was really hoping for some kind of emotional release, like maybe, I don't know, someone would actually find peace in the story. But everything else, especially that soundtrack—🙏
And don't even get me started on how gorgeous Moretti sounds. He's one of those people who just turns language into pure music.🙂

I totally get why you didn't say anything. It’s like, trying to keep up appearances and pretending everything is fine, even if it isn't—just clinging to that feeling. I know, I've been there.
Look, he gave you a sign. Maybe in a few days when you see him, you could ask how those tests went. Just let him know you know. Tell him you guys are stronger together. That he doesn't have to carry this huge weight all by himself. That you're right there for him.
cosmicridge5 said:I'm just so incredibly attached to him... and I honestly can't imagine life without Dad... Like, holy crap, who's gonna look out for me?? As selfish and ridiculous as that sounds... But honestly, in my head, I've always thought that no matter what kind of mess happens, if I really need to, I'll just call Dad...
Oh man... it's making me feel like such a little kid right now. Something happened that Dad, it seems, won't be able to fix...
How am I supposed to be strong???
I mean, who among us can even imagine life without someone we love? 🙂
You aren't being selfish. You're just trying to find logic in things where there just isn't any. Reading what you wrote, I just see myself back then.
Just take a deep breath and keep moving. Day by day, step by step. The fight isn't over. And you guys are definitely stronger together. 😉
cosmicridge5 said:Yeah, those kinds of comments are just super annoying, even if people mean well.
I guess everything is kind of irritating me right now, though...
It looks like my dad's cancer has already spread... and we only found out a few days ago that things were serious...
cosmicridge5, I don't even know what to say.... My dad went from diagnosis to funeral in less than three months. I don't want to give you false hope or tell you everything will be fine. Because, well, maybe it will, or maybe it won't. You totally get that, and honestly, just knowing that is huge. Like, really huge.
What I can tell you is to soak up every single second you have together. Seriously, make the most of it. I found my strength just by being with him. We used to laugh until we cried, and nobody else in the family really got it. They actually gave me some weird looks, like, "The man is dying and in pain, why are you guys laughing?" But honestly, those last few days together probably brought us closer than all the years before it.
Just laugh, talk, and enjoy the little stuff. You can cry... later. And anger—even though it's totally natural given what you're going through—doesn't really help. Maybe try taking that energy from the anger and putting it into something else? For me, I went totally overboard researching everything. I hit up every bookstore and library in town and spent endless nights scouring the internet. That feeling of helplessness was killing me; doing stuff made me feel like I was actually doing *something* instead of just sitting there with my hands tied.
I guess it's only situations like this that show us how strong we actually are. Though, man, it would be so much better if we never had to find out that way.

🤣
Some girl in my class—who used to swear that skipping food all day would definitely jumpstart your cycle (though I think she still had water in the morning!)—is actually being super chill about it now according to this 🤷 😁 😁
So I was just chatting with my mom and asked her if she actually remembers why people used to say you shouldn't wash your hair during your period. She was like, "Honestly, I'm not sure," then there was this loooong silence, and then she got all worried like, "Wait, why are you even asking me that?" 🤣 🤣
My mom used to tell me the same thing about washing my hair, but whenever I asked her why, she’d just shrug and say, "Because that's how my mom told me!" 🤷
As for dyeing hair, I gotta say, the only two times in my life where the color looked totally wrong was when I went to the salon on the first or second day after coloring. My stylist—who’s been doing this for 25 years—says there's definitely a connection there!
dustypilot22 said:So, does that mean the post counter actually knew which posts were duplicates all along? 😲
Exactly! I guess those crashes and resets just dragged some errors along with them. But hey, everything's been recounted now, so everyone’s actual post count shows up right next to their name.
Just a heads up, though—posts on the Offtopic, Madhouse, and Trash subforums still don't count toward the total. Nothing changed there!
Orbis is our system admin, and he’s currently busy fine-tuning the forum. He's got access to all sorts of backend tools that the rest of us admins don't even touch. As part of the site maintenance, he just finished updating the post counters. So, the number you see now is your actual, real-deal post count; I guess some of you might see a pretty huge jump since it hasn't been updated in a while!
I’ve been thinking about you all so much lately, especially while reading this book that really hit me hard. It’s by Daniel Wallace, and the US title is Big Fish, published by Mosaic Books. Behind those plain covers is this intense story about a father dying of cancer and his grown son spending those final days by his side. It’s such a complex look at two people who don't actually know each other that well because they never really had the time to bond, and their struggle to overcome themselves and make up for lost time.
I was honestly crying one minute and laughing the next. It made me relive some moments with my own dad, just... differently, I guess.
I won't say this is some life-changing manifesto, but maybe it'll help someone out. It definitely helped me. I'm pretty sure it'll be one of those books I always keep within reach. 🙂

It will likely spiral into a critique of the church or trigger a debate between believers and atheists, leaving you without any practical answers or advice. 🙂 Alternatively, we could keep this under 'Religion' and simply start a new one in 'Weddings.'
Yeah, that might be better 👍 You should check out some of the other threads there first and maybe add to them.
The girls are gonna be so stoked to find a guy who actually gets them 😍
