Look, I already told you they're just TomKat... Get it through your head already. 😬 😬 😬

Sure, he’s getting more mature and experienced, but we can't just overlook everything he did early on... I’d even go as far as saying there was this general wave of dislike toward him right after Titanic...
But still, I have to tip my hat to him for everything he's accomplished so far...
👍 👍 👍
I used to have that same dislike for him until I watched The Deceased, and then it really made me rethink things... And honestly, he isn't even that bad, Titanic just totally screwed him over.

Look, of course everyone has their own preferences—people are going to like or dislike certain things, it's all subjective. But whether an actor delivers a solid performance is an objective matter, regardless of whether you find them grating or not. You're conflating two different concepts here, because you stated: Leonardo DiCaprio did a great job, Djimon Hounsou did too, but Connelly did not.. That leads to the inescapable conclusion that you weren't satisfied with her acting. Just because she's irritating to you doesn't mean she isn't a skilled actress. You clearly misspoken. For instance, I find Jack Nicholson absolutely infuriating—I can't stand his screen presence—but I certainly wouldn't claim he's a bad actor; quite the opposite, he's extraordinary.😉
Yeah, I get what you're getting at... In my head, I usually lump those two things together. Annoying equals bad. But honestly, I don't know, there's just always something missing with her for me. Even when I saw her in Good Will Hunting—where she basically raked in all the praise—something just felt off. She didn't click with me then either, which is why I wrote not next to her name... And just to reiterate, I still find her irritating.
wiredranger30 said:What exactly is "wrong" with her performance? I get the feeling this isn't even your own take—it feels more like you stumbled upon some critic's review online and decided to play along. If I'm wrong, then walk me through it: what specifically did she miss the mark on? From where I'm sitting, her acting was perfectly fine.
As for the movie itself, it's a decent enough watch, but let's not pretend it's some cinematic masterpiece.
Jennifer Connelly. Man, Jennifer Connelly. There's just something about her presence, her character, her whole vibe, that doesn't click for me. She might be a great actress, sure, but what does that matter if I find her incredibly irritating to watch? (And yeah, there are a few others like that too). By the way, I don't go out of my way to read movie critics just to decide if a film is good or not. It’s simple: if a critic can't stand Jennifer Connelly, then by pure coincidence, neither can I, regardless of the movie. Let's just call it a difference in taste...
Watched it yesterday... Honestly, I was pretty blown away. The beginning drags a bit, feels kind of slow, but once things actually start moving, it gets interesting. Leonardo DiCaprio killed it, and Djimon Hounsou was just as great. Jennifer Connelly? Not really for me. I don't know, she felt like the weakest link in the whole cast to my eyes. The locations were absolutely stunning, though. And look, I’ve never been much of a fan of diamonds, but after this, I think I like them even less than before...
Just watched the movie. It was alright. Honestly, it’s a perfectly fine watch, but don't expect it to stay on your mind for very long once the credits roll.
What’s even funny about workplace bullying??
Trust me, at the theater where I saw it, people practically lit up the second Streep popped up on screen. You could see everyone cracking a smile. The crowd was basically anything from teenagers to women in their fifties out with their husbands. And everyone was just totally captivated by Miranda. Probably because people just love watching someone else's life go sideways (you know, Andrea and all that office harassment).
I swear, I end up tearing up during pretty much every movie I watch.... The last one that actually broke me was Moulin Rouge... And I’ve probably seen it at least ten times by now... Still, every single time, that ending gets me.
I don't even touch Bambi anymore because honestly, it's just too much trauma for me... And don't even get me started on The Lion King...
I remember sobbing through the entire thing when I watched the Green Mile.... Everything else is usually a bit more low-key... My favorite kind of crying, though, is when I start weeping during a movie that actually has a happy ending... Just pure relief because the main characters finally get together or things turn out okay in the end...
I caught the premiere, and honestly? It was nothing special. The movie could probably pass as okay, but there were definitely things that just didn't click for me. Look, they took a bunch of legends and myths and mashed them together into this big spectacle, but then they went and made everything way more complicated than it needed to be... For God's sake. I guess I'm still curious about the sequel though...
Seriously great movie... Everything about it was just awesome, truly... Even at my local AMC, people were practically falling out of their seats laughing... It’s gold, pure gold...
The Four movies from the Alien series—Alien, Alien 2, and Alien 3—are kind of a letdown for me... To me, the reply was just about some "super woman" trope. Star Wars, yeah, everyone's in there... literally everyone. Plus, you've got a young Harrison Ford in the mix, and honestly, neither Anakin Skywalker nor Obi-Wan Kenobi are bad either. Blade Runner... a total masterpiece (and I'm done mentioning Harrison Ford for now). The original Planet of the Apes from the fifties (I think it was 1956) is way better than this new garbage they keep making. The Matrix—but only the first one. The rest? Total trash.
You know what the absolute worst part about my script is? I’ve got the opening and the ending down, but the middle feels totally hollow—though, honestly, I'm trying to keep it as tight as possible. 😕 Also, can someone please explain the logic here? What on earth does classical music have to do with a raid on the Juilliard School?
Man, Sandra King86, every time I try to deal with these connections, it just sends me straight into a depression—especially when I’m actually using them for the right reasons, you know? Like, I'm only trying to help my people out. If only I had some kind of hookup at Juilliard... but nope, nothing. Such a shame. Still, I guess it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot. Maybe—and that's a huge maybe here—I might actually make it in. Thanks for the advice.
So, a long time ago, I actually wanted to be a director (and honestly, sometimes that itch is still there...). But once you realize that it’s less about having actual talent and more about who you know in Hollywood, it just makes me sick. To be blunt, I never even gave it a shot because I was terrified of failing and feeling that gut-wrenching disappointment. It sucks. But seeing this thread pop up has me thinking... why not just give it a go? I’ve got some minor experience under my belt and a mountain of ideas—even some ten-page scripts tucked away. At the end of the day, making it happen would be the ultimate dream.
I think this movie is absolutely incredible 👍... It definitely drags in parts, but man, it’s worth every minute... It's such a heavy, heartbreaking story 🙂 and I honestly ended up sobbing my eyes out by the end....
Look, my advice? If you want to see a movie, just go watch it. Don't give a damn what the critics say. At the end of the day, everything they write is just their own subjective opinion, which might line up with yours or it might not... who cares?
