*One reason I started this thread is basically to find a solid movie that most people would list, but I haven't seen yet, so I can finally check it out.

This film is Art, in the truest sense of the word. If the Mona Lisa is the peak of painting, then 2001: A Space Odyssey is the peak of cinema.👍

This movie is basically Art itself, in the best way possible. If the Mona Lisa is the peak of painting, then this flick is 2001: A Space Odyssey. 👍

man, I thought the movie was from 2001, so that threw me off.

I was just sitting here thinking about how much I still love the original Planet of the Apes, because there’s just something about that classic storytelling that modern cinema rarely manages to capture quite the same way...

I’ve been thinking quite a bit lately about how much of an impact Alien had when it first hit theaters, because there is just something about that atmosphere that stays with you forever... It really set such a high bar for sci-fi horror, blending that sense of isolation in deep space with a tension that feels almost suffocating, yet so beautifully crafted... Even after all these years, looking back at the creature design and the pacing, it remains one of those rare cinematic experiences that feels completely timeless...

I’ve been spending quite a bit of my free time lately revisiting the absolute masterpiece that is Blade Runner, and I honestly find myself more captivated by its atmosphere every single time I sit down to watch it... there is just something about that neon-soaked, rain-drenched vision of the future that stays with you long after the credits roll, making everything else feel a little bit duller by comparison...

I was just sitting here thinking about those classic action flicks from the eighties, and I found myself drifting back to the sheer intensity of Predator... there’s just something about that specific blend of jungle survival and high-stakes sci-fi tension that feels so timeless, especially when you consider how much it shaped the genre we love today...

I was just sitting here thinking about how much I still love the tension in The Thing, because there's really nothing else quite like that sense of creeping paranoia that John Carpenter managed to capture so perfectly... it’s one of those rare films where you can practically feel the cold seeping through the screen while you wonder which character is actually themselves and which one is something else entirely...

It doesn't really matter what order we put things in...

5) Time Machine (that one from the sixties)

I absolutely loved this movie when I was a kid, and honestly, I still love it now. I still can't believe I actually recorded over the tape it was on with some stupid nonsense once.

4) Plan 9 from Outer Space (which I think was also from the sixties 🤔 )

It's basically 'Ed Wood at its finest.' 🙏 You've got aliens resurrecting the dead just so they can take over Earth.

So, you've got aliens and zombies in the same movie. I mean, what more could you want?

3) The Last Starfighter (from the 80s)

This movie is just pure genius. It's set in America where arcade games are actually based on a real interstellar conflict, and if you beat the game, you get recruited to fight in space.

Back then, my whole group of friends would play any space shooter we could find, obsessively hoping we'd get scouted by some aliens to join the fight.

Anyway, twelve years have passed and we don't try that hard anymore... but hey, you never know.

2) Barbarella (around 1970, I guess)

Okay... so you have Jane Fonda in this incredibly tight space suit wandering around different planets looking for... something. Everyone is totally trippy, and there are even scenes involving some weird sexual torture devices...😕

If that's not good entertainment, you tell me what is, because I bloody well don't know. 😁

1) Forbidden Planet (1956)

I actually know the exact year for this one because I watched Solaris a few months ago and decided to revisit this after a long time.

Two words: Anne Francis. 🙏

I can't for the life of me remember the name of that old flick from the 60s... I think it's the one you guys were just tripping over where they land on some weird planet and get hunted by this ghost entity. There's an old guy, his daughter, and this robot they built, and I'm pretty sure the old man is actually pulling the strings on the monster until he loses control and things go south—maybe he dies or something at the end, I guess. 🤔
