Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)

I'm surprised there isn't a thread about this on Reddit yet...

Anyway, I caught the movie on Wednesday and I have to say, I'm pretty disappointed... There are two main drawbacks to the film (and I dare say this here since most of you probably already feel the same way): first, it’s almost completely devoid of humor—which is a shame because that was one of the best parts of the first film—and second, it doesn't actually end. It feels very much like how The Matrix Reloaded or The Matrix Revolutions were structured... That last part really killed it for me...

Of course, just like any movie from our dear friend Jerry Bruckheimer, it's packed with special effects and action, but unfortunately, that alone isn't enough to save it...

The film hits theaters here in the US on July 27th, so you all still have plenty of time to lower your expectations... 😉

So, what’s actually worth watching?

So, you're saying it's not worth heading out to see? I mean, I get why it turned out this way, but hey, they're still making a third one, so maybe we should just go see it so more people actually show up for the third part anyway.

Fair enough... Maybe the movie isn't total trash and actually deserves a theater viewing... But I still walked away feeling pretty disappointed...

There were some bright spots, though... 🙂

Honestly, I couldn't care less about all this chatter—I'll just watch the damn thing and see what happens... 🙂

It’s safe to assume it won't live up to the First Film.

To be honest, even the first one wasn't really my favorite; for me, it was more about the overall atmosphere...

I always find myself thinking back to the Monkey Island series and that absolutely brilliant music at the very beginning...

Now, that's something that really needs a movie adaptation...Maybe Tim Burton could do it...🙄

In my book, the absolute best pirate flick out there has gotta be Treasure Island, especially with Charlton Heston and that little Batman vibe... it’s based on that killer Stevenson novel that basically set the gold standard for every single pirate story ever told. I mean, you've got the hooks, the eye patches, parrots chilling on shoulders, the buried treasure, that whole gritty pirate lingo......

Good grief, this movie runs for a full 150 minutes! Reddit!
Eva Knightley maybe has one milligram more sex appeal than she did in the first film... though I don't even know how much I hated this thing to actually list that as a "feature"...
I honestly felt like walking out of the theater halfway through the screening...

...I honestly think Ron Gilbert is just sitting there waiting for a check to show up in his mailbox...

They were already borrowing ideas back in the first game...but this captain has the exact same beard as LeChuck...

The Monkey Island series was partially inspired by the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, and Monkey Island 2 features a number of tributes to it, particularly a scene with a guard dog in a prison being lured by a bone and Disneyland underground tunnels and "e-tickets" in the closing scenes.

Jerry Bruckheimer is a total movie BOG!

The guy can take complete garbage and turn it into a massive blockbuster... He's proven that more times than I can count.
Obviously, using the word "blockbuster" doesn't mean the movie is actually good or, heaven forbid, artistic. I'm strictly talking about the box office numbers here... Basically, the man knows how to convince people to reach into their pockets and drop $17 on total junk... And honestly, that's a skill worth recognizing...
