I honestly can't say—I was having such a blast watching it that I didn't even stop to think about it. 😁

By my own personal definition of what makes a movie great, this one is absolutely stellar, so it definitely doesn't qualify as trash. But hey, let's hold off and see what our resident expert, hollowseal33, has to say about it. 🙂

And who's in the cast?
I really hope it isn't one of those overly pretentious, "artsy" projects that only ever shows up at indie film festivals instead of having a real run. 😁

It actually is—we already saw a production of it over on Broadway. 👋

Cast: Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Bai Ling, Michael Gambon
Has anyone else been told yet that this is hands down the most entertaining movie ever made?

It’s got those iconic ray guns that actually fire when you shake them, plus plenty of nods to James T. Kirk.

I'll let CNN handle the rest of the breakdown.

There's even a pretty obvious romantic spark flying between our brave captain and his fearless engineer. 😁
driftingdriver4 said:With Opera, you can actually set up an unlimited number of accounts using different outgoing servers, though I don't really see why anyone would need more than just one.

Honestly, you have those same options in Bird too.

The only real suggestion here is that sticking to a single server might be the smoother way to go.

Other than that, everything you guys mentioned is working perfectly fine on my end. The only thing acting up is that specific link with the extra comma in it, but I’d bet my bottom dollar that wouldn't work in Opera or Internet Explorer either.

Exactly so. I've been wanting to brighten up the picture for ages.

Megan Ruiz13 said:Man, I totally missed the opening😠. I just flicked the TV on this very second.

I was running a little late too, though not by much. Honestly, it took me a good while to stop grinning every single time Leslie popped up on the screen. I can't help it when he leaves such an impression on me. And that soundtrack... man, wow...

Everything else gets a solid 5! 👍

P.S. Just imagine if Star Trek had featured Nielsen instead of Shatner. What do you guys think? 🙂

casualotter21 said:I honestly don't get what everyone is complaining about; if being able to crank out 50 bottles of whiskey every single second isn't considered a massive technological breakthrough, then I really don't know what is.

Now this: the sheer ability to have a female companion right on demand whenever you feel like it.

Eric Jackson43 said:Unfortunately not, I watched that movie ages ago and it completely slipped my mind.

You should check out this IMDb link for that film and dig through the trivia section. Somewhere in there, you'll stumble upon:
Quote: Among the scenes of comic relief added to Cyril Hume's script was one in which Robby the robot

The rest is for you to find!

Eric Jackson43 said:But honestly, it’s not even really about the comic relief; it feels more like they were just trying to show off how advanced that robot actually was and the sheer level of technology it possessed—like being able to replicate 50 bottles in a single second.

I hear you, but if it was that high-tech, why didn't it just replicate some fuel or help them tweak the engine or something along those lines? Instead, it just helped some guy get his hands on something that I think was strictly forbidden (or at least frowned upon) to have on board. And hey, did you catch that one scene that almost got cut from the movie entirely?

🤔
Like, specifically what?

Think about those moments where he’s actually asking the robot to do things for him. I clearly remember a bit involving some alcohol. If you want to dig into the specifics, just check out this. It’s such a textbook example of how producers step in to tweak things; those specific scenes really clash with the overall vibe of the movie.

I guess those threats actually worked! 👍 😂

Robby the robot showed up in quite a few movies over the years. 😁

And it doesn't even stop there—they actually end up cranking that intelligence level right up! 😁

👍 20041023 via PBS 14:20 Film classic: Forbidden Planet, an American gem, Must watch (it even features Leslie Nielsen, though you might not recognize him right away) imdb

This stands out as one of those timeless SF classics that simply refuses to age, largely because the writing and direction were so incredibly solid. People often refer to it as a storm in SF storytelling since the plot draws its soul from Shakespeare's work. And honestly, you won't be able to stop thinking about the robot, aptly named Robby. 🙂

Since the movie was produced all the way back in 1956, you can really appreciate the level of craftsmanship in the special effects, which were genuinely cutting-edge for that era.

Quote: Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry eventually admitted this film was a major inspiration for his own science fiction TV series.

Quote: The planet on which Edward and Altaira Morbius Live is Altair IV, which according to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993) is also a Federation planet. Director Fred M. Wilcox consulted with scientists before making the decision that the planet's sky would be green.

If I had to nitpick, the parts I didn't love were the bits of comic relief tucked in there just because the producers asked for them, but even that doesn't take away much from how good the movie actually is.

I am really looking forward to seeing what Gnn-ov has to say about this. Honestly, Conan the Barbarian stands out as one of those truly divine cinematic experiences I've ever had the pleasure of watching, and it’s just an absolutely stellar film overall.

Paul Mendoza88 said:I'm pretty bummed 🙂 that I won't be home this Tuesday to catch the broadcast, even though I have the DVD and just watched it recently. 😁 What do you guys think—should I just record it on video? 😬

Honestly, you never know what might happen to a disc. Go ahead and record it! It’s always better to be safe than sorry, right?

And hey, silentharbor88, the second you heard Ghostbusters was playing tomorrow, you had to go and swap out your avatar immediately... 😁

It's pretty obvious you aren't from around here.

Well, it's clear you haven't been paying attention to the conversation. Of course I heard about it—I'm actually the one who brought it up! I even posted about it earlier in the thread, laying out the whole schedule for which movies we're watching and when. Honestly, I'd bet anything you haven't even read that discussion yet.

Xerxes said:It’s honestly such a waste that Sir Humphrey dies off; I’d much rather see the rebel leader get taken out instead. It would be way more interesting if that old cop-turned-criminal from back in the day got frozen again, while Humphrey steps up to become the Emperor and starts rocking those bright red boots. 😁

Wait, remind me again—which planet did you say you drifted in from? 😕
