Russia's invasion of Ukraine: Part 5 in War in Ukraine ·
Jessica Peterson2 said:And apparently, those who died two years ago weren't considered "safe" either.

We saw the exact same thing back home... my neighbor actually died in a motorcycle accident back in '89... then he gets a draft notice for the military in '91... they were even sending Military Police to his house looking for him! Good grief... honestly, the data just isn't being updated at all.

It’s like that old saying goes: "run for your lives before your backside gives out."

The democratic world finally figured out how to push back, remembering the one thing Zoran Milanović seemed to forget: when you face Russian tyranny, unity is the only way forward, and victory is an absolute certainty if we stand together. With modern weaponry and top-tier intelligence, the Ukrainians are going to stop this orc horde once and for all. And frankly, that victory is worth whatever it costs. I would deal with shortages, inflation, and freezing radiators any day over living under the thumb of someone who murders political rivals with radioactive polonium.

It's a good piece...👍
But hey, he didn't seem to mind the American tyranny, did he? After finishing his military training in the American People's Army, instead of jumping into the American War of Independence to lend his expertise, he just slipped away to become a journalist instead.🤔

They’ve really gone too far this time. From what I can gather, they'd be facing the death penalty in any US state for doing something like this.

A few pages back, amidst all that general paranoia, they actually managed to trap their own...🤦

I guess people still think we're writing everything down with pencils and filing it in cabinets. Good grief.

The older records—even the images—are still stuck in those old-school physical folders. You actually have to show up in person just to pick them up... all because of those privacy laws. It's such a headache!😉
Monitor buying guide (mega-thread) in Computer Peripherals ·
Hey everyone!
I noticed there’s a big sale going on over at Best Buy right now..
And one specific thing caught my eye: an LC-ov monitor

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/monitor-34-inch...

I was wondering what you all think about this model.. or if there might be something even better out there in this price range? 🤔
Thanks so much for any input!

stormywolf39 said:Honestly, that CPU is still plenty capable for most things you'll want to do, though you could probably squeeze out a little more by overclocking it just a touch... As for new graphics cards, looking at the price-to-performance ratio, sticking with something like the 6850, 5850, 6870, or even an NVIDIA GTX 660 or 560 makes total sense—anything higher than that feels like overkill right now. If you're looking for a real "best buy" at the moment, check this one out:

Or, if you're looking for something a bit easier on the wallet:

http://217.14.221.177/StartEU.ashx?p...i-r5850-twinfr

NVIDIA isn't really competing on price at this exact moment, but I'm expecting those prices to dip a little soon.

Also, none of these will require a new power supply since they all actually pull less power than that old 4870.

Thanks so much for all the advice and the quick answers!👍

Hey everyone, I could really use some help here!
I’m seriously considering picking up a new graphics card because I think it would give my current rig a much-needed boost.
Right now, I mostly spend my time playing Bad Company, Battlefield Vietnam, and various other shooters.
The thing is, I'm just not quite sure which card would be the best move for me, so I was hoping you guys could jump in and guide me.

Here’s what I’m running at the moment:
Intel Core2Duo E8400, 3.0GHz (overclocked)
MSI P35 neo motherboard
2 GB DDR2 - 800 MHz
ATI Radeon HD4870 (RV770) Gainward 1024mb
400W Antec power supply

Basically, I want to swap out this old card for something better based on your recommendations.
And along with that upgrade, I’ll definitely be adding another 2GB of RAM to the mix...

Or, do you think it's smarter to just leave everything alone—except for the memory—and save up to buy an entirely new PC later on?
Thanks so much for any advice you can give!
How do hospitals handle sharps disposal? in Health ·
stormyheron4 said:Honestly, I don't think it really matters since everything ends up tossed straight into a heavy-duty plastic sharps container that gets sealed up and incinerated anyway. My advice? Don't try to pop the cap back onto the needle. It’s just asking for an accidental stick, especially if you're running on fumes and your focus starts slipping. At least, that's what I was told. As for official guidelines, I'm not even sure if there's a specific regulation covering this, and if there is, I doubt it goes into detail about the exact mechanics of disposing of needles.

That's the truth...👍

I suspect those official documents don't get super granular about how you toss the needles, mainly because they all go right into the container regardless, so it feels like a moot point...🤷

Do you even know how to properly file a complaint in that logbook?
You really think the Department of Labor hands out fines based on just one person's word?
They read through your info in the log (which, by the way, you actually have to fill out correctly—hope you know that) and then they’ll give you a call to hear both sides before any actual sanctions happen.
Otherwise, everyone would just be writing whatever garbage they wanted in those books.

And regarding this coffee thing—aren't you a little embarrassed? Or does it not gross you out to even ask for a coffee at a place like that at that hour? Who knows what kind of crap they've been putting in there since then. 😛

Oh, I know, I definitely know how to fill one out. I've actually dealt with inspectors personally regarding that exact thing...😁 and let's just say it turned out in my favor... hehehe...😁 (I won't get into the whole saga right now...)
But please, don't act like I'm disgusted! Usually (and I'm talking about two different local spots here) I'm sitting right there at the bar, so I see exactly what they're doing...

Casey Campbell said:Maybe they can if you play along, but legally, they can't. Honestly, just print this thread out and show them, or maybe just pretend you didn't hear them. If things get physical, call the cops. Depending on how far they take it, they could face misdemeanor charges or even criminal ones, and they'd likely owe you damages for the hassle.

So, my advice? Go ahead and politely ask for the formal complaint log at the counter and make sure you write everything down clearly...
just in case they try to be difficult and refuse to give it to you—though I wouldn't go calling the Department of Labor too early!

Back in the day, I had this issue with a few local coffee shops where they'd suddenly decide they weren't serving coffee after 8 or 9 PM on weekends... but after I 😉made my presence known
, those same places were happily brewing coffee until midnight!

All those tall tales and "urban legends" about Joe have been floating around forever, but this one? This has to be the most naive thing I've ever heard...
I’m telling you, I really hope you can squeeze this in before the year wraps up! You definitely don't want to be stuck paying out-of-pocket co-pays for those referrals next year, especially since I'm positive you'll be needing more diagnostic tests anyway...
