Linda Rodriguez38 said:honestly, I'm like 😂😂😂 well, at least I chatted with you for a sec looking for a silver lining in all this mess, right? calling me colorblind?? 😛
now I get why this thread belongs in a psych textbook instead of a random forum she’s basically got her own therapist here—can't go five minutes without supervision🤣
hey, maybe if you gave this "colorblind" girl a little gray hair, it wouldn't be such a disaster, huh?
honestly, you probably wouldn't mind a checkup yourself if one were offered my comment was actually meant for Michelle Alvarez8 when I called you colorblind, it was because you clearly didn't realize I'm not a moderator anymore, so now I just spend my time enjoying the spiritual wealth of this forum without feeling the need to lecture anyone
Linda Rodriguez38 said:Is there even a way to say that in American English—like, how would you even word that? 🍿
Let's stick to the topic! — keeping things on track, right? Royal Flush energy! 👑✨ Once you finally start standing up to the people you've been too soft on—seriously, why haven't you yet?—you won't even feel like posting stuff like this anymore!
Michael Lee4 said:The only reason I want to put this whole thing to bed once and for all is because I definitely don't need to spend my free time every single day dealing with people who clearly have nothing better to do with their lives. Whether I'm telling them to back off or just cleaning up their nonsense.
Technically, I could just hand out bans and delete everything without saying a word, but I’m not really into that style of management. Just imagine how much worse things would get and how many more of these people there'd be. 😁
To start with, most people here can't even see deleted posts, so they have absolutely no clue how much garbage a single mod actually has to scrub away just to keep things running Furthermore, it gets incredibly exhausting having to constantly explain yourself and beat your head against the wall repeating the same points, only to be met with these bizarre, convoluted excuses about how a specific rule somehow doesn't apply to you... And let's be honest, we all call each other names and joke around, finding it all pretty funny and lighthearted, but when it comes to the mods, everyone suddenly expects them to be some kind of superhuman who never breathes or makes a sound Basically, it’s always easier to play the contrarian and blame everyone else for whatever goes wrong, even when we’re clearly the ones who caused the mess ourselves If the moderators were to step away for just one week—God forbid a full month—that’s when people would finally realize this place would turn into a total wasteland where it would be impossible to post anything meaningful or actually have a coherent discussion with anyone
I spend a fair amount of time on this subforum, and if I'm being real, I think Michael Lee4 is actually a pretty decent mod and quite a good guy, despite all his constant messing around, the occasional outbursts, and everything else
It’s pretty funny how nobody ever seems to go looking for a fence to keep out "Comrade Marshall" or "America" or that whole "from the Vardar to the Triglav" nonsense. As if those were supposed to be positive directions? For who exactly?
Let me say this one more time, for the people in the back: stay the hell away from a dog on a chain!!! I honestly find it hard to wrap my head around the fact that there are still folks out there who don't get that simple concept. 🙂
Drew Morgan said:She had no right to be there? They were neighbors dropping by for a visit, not a gang of burglars. What about the UPS driver? If they aren't allowed in a yard, how does anyone deliver packages?
I'm not blaming the dog or the girl. I'm blaming the practice of chaining animals up and the laws that allow it.
if the neighbors showed up, then the neighbors should have just left you don't go near a dog on a chain, period.
honestly, if that dog hadn't been chained up, we wouldn't even be having this conversation, would we?
Thomas Fowler84 said:hollowtrucker77, I don't see the issue here. If the local ordinance states the dog owner is responsible for any damage the dog causes, there isn't much more to discuss. This is black-letter law; the man asked "who is responsible," and he was given his answer.
To reiterate, the sign alone isn't enough. In conjunction with that sign, there might be a functional doorbell required, which would make sense.
These dog ownership ordinances are usually set at the municipal level, but liability is defined by law in many instances as well. 🤷
Take the regulations for Washington, D.C., for example: http://www.washington-psv.org/userdocsimages/Odluka.doc
If an owner flagrantly violates the rules or the law and endangers someone else's life, they can certainly face criminal charges—what's strange about that? No one here is justifying illegal actions; quite the opposite, from what I can see, I am the only one actually discussing the law. Again, let a judge determine the facts. Unlike many of you, I refuse to draw conclusions without evidence. None of you geniuses have even figured out why they entered the yard in the first place, yet you've already incorrectly identified the responsible party. ☕
Is there some kind of regulation regarding personal liability by any chance?? Or maybe something concerning responsibility for a child or someone who can't care for themselves?? Following the logic you're using here, the Department of Transportation would be at fault for every traffic accident, just like you're claiming the dog owner is responsible for the bite on that little girl. I'm sorry, but I am genuinely struggling to wrap my head around your thought process. Unless this is just that classic American approach: if something goes wrong, we go hunting for a culprit, specifically someone with enough money to pay up.
Thomas Fowler84 said:That point is secondary. The real issue is whether the yard was physically fenced off—whether he ensured a playing child wouldn't just wander in... There are countless variables that can go wrong, and an owner of a dangerous dog must take every reasonable step to minimize risk. Consider a scenario where someone illiterate misses a sign because there is no fence, or perhaps a sign falls down, or a child chases a ball into the yard... Under American law, the owner is held responsible for the damage their dog causes. This doesn't automatically mean they are guilty, but it effectively shifts the burden of proof onto them. If he can truly prove he had clear signage, a secure fence, a leash, and a healthy, registered dog... then I doubt he will face legal trouble. However, a simple sign alone won't absolve him of the responsibility mandated by law.
The dog was in the backyard and on a chain!! The only thing the owner could be held responsible for is owning a house with a yard in the first place. And seriously, how illiterate does a person have to be to realize what a picture of a dog on a sign actually means??
For crying out loud, are we ever going to stop trying to justify illegal actions by slapping them with these hellish, hyper-legalistic responsibilities??
The headline really should have read, "Little girl and her Grandma jump a dog, dog fights back." As far as I'm concerned, all this dog deserves is one massive, high-quality bone.
A dog in a backyard. Tied up. How much of a threat is any dog that’s just tied up in its own yard? Honestly. Are people seriously suggesting we should all just own dogs without jaws? If they had just walked into my house, I would have kicked them both straight out the door. In a situation like this, any dog would react the exact same way, so it really doesn't matter if you're dealing with a Rottweiler, a Shepherd, or some tiny Terrier. I genuinely don't see the point being made here. Do idiots think they can just do whatever they want and then act like everything is everyone else's fault when things go sideways? That dog had every right to be in that yard, even without being tied up, whereas those people had absolutely no business being there in the first place. If someone falls off a skyscraper because they were walking along the ledge, does that mean we should just ban skyscrapers?
I mean, honestly, what’s even the big deal here? First off, don't go thinking you get to decide if this thread gets locked or not; that’s up to the sub moderators, not just me, so let's get that straight right out of the gate. The OP laid out a specific situation and the headache that came with it, but they didn't exactly submit a formal request for us all to sit around and perform some deep psychological analysis on their life. That was my point too—just leave the guy alone and let the conversation actually focus on the topic and the actual issue at hand. I genuinely don't see which part of that is giving anyone such a hard time to wrap their heads around.
The way you keep pushing this question makes it sound like someone walking into a local pub and claiming they should be allowed to spit on the floor and throw punches just because they came there to relax and have a good time. Well, newsflash: those who tried to test those boundaries quickly found out that's not how it works. 😉
Look, you’ve got every right to have an opinion on just about anything, and you have the absolute freedom to decide whether you want to weigh in on a topic or just sit this one out entirely. But if you actually choose to post, you’re implicitly agreeing to follow the rules of the forum and its sub-sections, which means there’s zero excuse for turning things into a chaotic chat room, getting into petty bickering, or engaging in those thinly veiled insults that people love to hide behind... I honestly can’t wrap my head around where you get the idea that if a thread is deemed "low quality," it somehow gives someone a free pass to ditch basic manners, act like they own the place, or just turn the whole thing into a mindless chat session. If a thread starts heading down that path, either the mods need to shut it down, or it’ll just die a natural death because nobody will bother to engage with it anymore.
And now you're expecting me to sit here and spell out the difference between actual communication and just bickering, or between a real discussion and mere provocation, or even between a decent debate and mindless off-topic rambling? I honestly think you know exactly what’s going on here—or at least, I’m certainly hoping you do.
