wiredmarlin47 said:I played around with the resolution settings for a bit and it looks good now. Thanks. 🙂

Does running at the highest resolution actually hurt the monitor?...

Not at all—if anything, it's better. You really want to stick to the native resolution. For instance, if you've got a screen that's 1920x1080, you definitely want to keep it set right there instead of dropping down to something lower...
Chinese malware, help! in IT Support ·
You should definitely run another scan with Malwarebytes—and while you're at it, maybe grab JRT and HitmanPro too just to be safe,

Gerald Allen19 said:I’ve been there—had a hard drive act up exactly like that once. I ended up just pulling it out, giving it a quick cleaning, and popping it back in; everything went back to running smoothly after that.

Could you walk me through how you cleaned it? Do you mean you actually opened the casing up to clean the internals?
Quick question about CPUs in IT Support ·
I’m willing to bet my money that the motherboard is the culprit here—it’s honestly the case about 99% of the time. I mean, isn't the processor usually the very last thing to actually give up the ghost in a PC? 😁
Quick question about CPUs in IT Support ·
I honestly don't think there's much we can do at this point—it feels like you're dealing with a faulty processor or maybe a bad motherboard. If you can swing it, would it be possible to borrow a different motherboard just to test things out? It might be worth seeing if the same issue pops up...
What are these weird files on my D: drive? in IT Support ·
Any critical files you have sitting on your D drive that you want to keep —go ahead and move those over to an external hard drive, a thumb drive, or maybe even a different partition if you can manage it. Once you've got everything safely tucked away, just run a quick format on that D partition, and that should hopefully clear things right up.
Quick question about CPUs in IT Support ·
First things first—you really ought to try a BIOS flash. I'd suggest downloading the latest version directly from the motherboard manufacturer's website and getting that installed; it’s worth seeing if a quick update might just clear up whatever issue you're running into.
I’m honestly pretty relieved to see this card moving—I was actually worried people were still hung up on that whole "issue" with having only 3.5GB of VRAM.
Can't share posts on Facebook in IT Support ·
Try clearing out your browsing history, cookies, and all that other digital clutter using CCleaner. If that doesn't do the trick, then it’s probably just a glitch within Facebook itself—and honestly, if that's the case, there isn't much you can do besides sit tight and wait for them to fix it on their end.
Laptop won't charge in IT Support ·
If it turns out the charger isn't the culprit, then the charging port on the laptop might be shot... (it happens more often than you'd think). My advice? Just take it into a repair shop.
PC Build in Desktops ·
Are you just looking for the tower itself, or do you need the rest of the peripherals too? Also, could you be a little more specific—maybe give me a ballpark figure for what you're looking to spend on a new setup? And are you planning to pay with cash or a card?
Help! My screen is broken in IT Support ·
And you should probably budget about $100-$$50 at a local repair shop—mostly because they’ll likely go ahead and swap out the thermal paste on the processor and give the whole laptop a deep cleaning while they have it open..
Help! My screen is broken in IT Support ·
First things first, try doing a clean reinstall of your graphics drivers. If you're still seeing the same issues after that, there's a good chance you're looking at a hardware failure—either the GPU itself is fried or it’s an issue with the display. It might be worth hooking up an external monitor using a VGA-DVI-HDMI cable just to see what kind of picture you get over there.

Need help with a GPU upgrade? in Hardware ·
Only pull the trigger if the seller offers a warranty and lets you test the card out in person before you buy it. Honestly, I don't consider shipping anything anymore—it just doesn't feel like a safe bet. For me, it's strictly face-to-face deals only.
macOS update in IT Support ·
So, which macOS version are we talking about here? I ran into some real headaches back when I was using Windows 7—I actually had to reboot my laptop several times before it would finally decide to pull down those macOS updates.

I know it's a bit pricey—but honestly, it’s probably the most affordable option out there once you consider everything. It comes with a passive heatsink, too, so it’s basically silent.
GPU Buying Guide - (Read first post) in Desktops ·
The real question here is—do you actually need a gaming-grade graphics card? Or are you just looking for something to get an image onto your monitor? If it’s the latter, I’d suggest picking up a card with passive cooling instead...
Drive died? in IT Support ·
Maybe try checking your BIOS first to see if the hard drive is even being detected? If it’s not showing up, I’d suggest swapping out the SATA cables—just to be 110% sure you're actually dealing with a dead drive and not just a faulty cable causing all the headaches.
