Have you guys gotten your flu shots yet? in Health ·
I was actually planning on heading in today, but I’ve come down with this nasty cold... my nose won't stop running and the coughing is just relentless—so I think I'll wait a few more days for this to clear up first. To be honest, I’ve never really been one to bother with the flu shot before.

Let me fix that—they weren't supposed to fail the whole grade, just their American Language class!
My bad, I tried to edit this earlier, but the server was acting up and wouldn't let me through.

Terry Rodriguez41 said:So, what exactly did he do to upset you???..

It’s not just my personal opinion, though...
he was a few years younger than me—basically my sister's age.
I still remember this one time back in fourth grade when he was actually about to fail American History! Honestly, his teachers always gave him a pass. You know how it is with those varsity sports tracks in high school—they always get special treatment, like being allowed to miss 30% of their classes without any penalty...
There was this group of them who were all facing failing the grade, and the teacher was absolutely livid. She told them there was no point even asking if they wanted to retake the test because they already had straight A's, so they'd just have to deal with the makeup exams later...
And so, they start plotting amongst themselves (including Duje) on how they could sweet-talk her into giving them a chance to retake it.
The whole group walks out of the classroom, but Duje stays behind like a total clown. He goes right up to the teacher, plays the charming student, and says: "Teacher, just give them all a passing grade! Just give me a C. I'm moving to the States soon, and who knows if I'll ever need to know anything about American history again!" 🙂 😢 Even then, he already knew he wouldn't be needing the subject! So really, you can't be surprised by his behavior now.
Anyway, the kid was always a bit full of himself and pretty arrogant... like I said: he's a jerk.

Honestly, Duje is just a total coward!

(I actually went to school with him!) but seriously—what a joke.🙂

Nationalism vs. Chauvinism: Where is the line? in Close to Politics ·

Unfortunately, stormywolf65, it’s not even been fifty years...
I actually have a dictionary from 1983—an old Youth edition printed in Chicago—and everything was censored back then in the South, and the definition provided is exactly as listed above.
And if you dig through even older dictionaries, you'll find these same meanings for words dating back centuries, even thousands of years—words used by the ancient Latin people that form the very roots of our language, terms defined by Roman law. This whole trend of equating nationalism with chauvinism? That’s really just something that started in the last few years, pushed by certain "intellectuals," pseudo-writers, and hardline old-school communists. Given enough time, I bet they'll manage to bake those definitions into future editions of the dictionary too... 🙂
Nationalism vs. Chauvinism: Where is the line? in Close to Politics ·
I know John Doe probably already touched on this, but here I am again—pulling definitions straight from the dictionary for clarity:

NATION = A community of people who feel a shared sense of belonging.
NATIONALISM = Highlighting and emphasizing the values that are unique and significant to a specific people; a movement centered on developing a sense of pride and love for those national values.
NATIONALITY = Belonging to a particular nation.

NAZISM = NATIONAL SOCIALISM = HITLERISM = Total submission to the principles of the National Socialist Party and the commands of its leader.

PATRIOTISM = Love for one's homeland.

CHAUVINISM = Fanning the flames of national hatred; policies aimed at the oppression and exploitation of other nations.

And honestly, all of you following that garbage graffiti claiming "Nationalism is hating others, while patriotism is loving your own"—please, just go take a hike. Seriously. Pick up an actual dictionary and look things up instead of just making up your own definitions on the fly!

zap805 said:When we finally move past this cycle of hating everyone else and actually start feeling some genuine pride in being part of our own nation...👎 well, I guess we'll find out. Until then, if the poet P. Preradović were looking at how things are going today, he might have summed it up like this:
"Only change (hate 😠 ) is eternal"

Just a quick heads-up on the wording: Preradović was actually talking about "mjena," which means change!

When is eye twitching normal? in Health ·
So, I actually started taking magnesium today—just decided it was time to give it a shot. I'm wondering, though, how many days do you think it'll take before I can finally start tapering off the eye drops? I'll be sure to check back in and let you all know once everything settles down! 🙂

Amy Martinez5 said:My eye has been twitching every single day for about a week now—specifically on the right side. It’s honestly getting to the point where it's driving me crazy. Does anyone know what might be causing this, or if there's any way to actually make it stop? I feel like I just want to squeeze it shut and force it to stay still...😢

😲 😲 I can't believe it! I'm going through the exact same thing! Sometimes it lasts even longer than a day! It's my right eye too! I honestly thought it was my eyelid—I even had this weird thought that maybe a nerve in my iris had just given up on me or something! It is so incredibly irritating. I deal with chronic conjunctivitis, usually much worse in my left eye, but since I use drops in both eyes, I wondered if I might have just irritated the right one with the medication itself.
That's the first time I've heard it could be stress! I haven't really been under a lot of pressure lately, though... 😉
If you guys find a cure, please let me know!

Conservatives tend to head to church, and honestly, the church preaches some pretty solid stuff—like how being generous or sharing what you have with others is actually a good thing.😁

🙂 One really ought to earn a shirt like this! And, if I'm being honest, I'm not a huge fan of that sarcastic tone you're using.

How to kickstart digestion? in Health ·
Probiotics can be great when you first start incorporating them—really helpful for getting things moving—but honestly, your body tends to adapt to them pretty quickly. Once that happens, they don't seem to do much anymore, and in some cases, they might even make you feel a bit worse! It’s kind of like how you get used to a certain caffeine level, you know? So, just be careful with how you use them. (I'm talking about those probiotic-fortified cereals you eat with milk or yogurt.)
