Every time I type 4.94 into Microsoft Excel, the software decides to be clever and converts it into some weird date format like 4/94.

I'm not entirely certain, but it sounds like you've got those cells (or maybe just one of them) set to a Date format by mistake. You should probably just reformat them to be Numbered.

In my experience, what really makes or breaks a presentation is having that high-quality audio recorded in .WAV format. Honestly, though, you can fix that quite easily with a basic converter.

I I still can't quite wrap my head around why that initial track showed up in the first place; I actually went through the trouble of trying to swap it out because I was convinced there was some sort of glitch with the audio file itself. I just grabbed that track from YouTube and ran it through a converter to get it into *WAV format. After that, everything played out exactly the way I described earlier.

If you want to replicate this process using a specific template from mistywalker94, here is how you navigate through it.
First, fire up PowerPoint > File > Open > select "Hopeless Case.PPT" > delete the audio clip on the very first slide > then head over to Transitions > Sound > Other Sound > and browse through your audio folder to pick your favorite (in this case, I've included Bach's Ave Maria) in .WAV format > set it to loop until the next sound plays > finally, go to File > Save As > give it a clever new name > and make sure to save it as an Invented Name.PPS

It looks like I’ve been doing everything wrong from the very start, mostly because I completely misread the assignment—specifically regarding how to set the pricing and all that.

It’s pretty obvious you misread the brief, though, to be fair, the instructions weren't exactly laid out clearly in the first place. The person who assigned this is actually kind of famous for being this disorganized. I wonder if they tend to hand out all their other projects in such a messy, convoluted way too?
