I guess I’ve brought up Mirrored yet again this week, so here we go...

image

It’s not just that Damnocracy is a great supergroup—this lineup is pretty solid too.
John Stanier from Helmet 😍 absolutely kills on drums, as you'd expect, while Ian Williams from Don Caba (that American Peach Piti) handles the guitar work, and Tyondai Braxton (whose dad is Anthony—if you want the deep lore, ask David Sullivan4, he’s the only one who actually knows 😬) does guitars, keys, and vocals. Then there's the fourth guy, David Konopka, who jumps between guitar and bass; he isn't a huge name, at least not to me. 🙂

The genre is math rock, but the kind you can actually dance to. They’ve got groove for days—man, they're repetitive enough to totally hypnotize you. 😵

They're on Warp right now. All their releases look all scuffed up, which kind of bugs me, but I've been listening to EP C/B EP, which is just two EPs: EP C and EP B (weird, I know), plus their latest, Mirrored, from this year. On the newer stuff, they started using these spacey vocals that remind me of a Smurf choir, or maybe those two chipmunks from the cartoons.
Now it sounds like music from the future. The future might actually be alright. 😍

A tour with Battles and Lightning Bolt? Man. 😍

That signature drum setup

And the video for the track Atlas from the last release—it's a total hit, massive as the Rocky Mountains, and the video is beautiful.

Alex Scott22 said:the only actually promising young band I could think of to invite from the States—who really fits the vibe—is Bud Spencer.. just them.

uh, that's probably not gonna end well 😈

Beyoncé? I mean.. are you actually crazy enough to drop $130 on one of her CDs? Or fly all the way to the USA just for a concert? Like.. sure, you love her and that's fine, but maybe you don't take her seriously. I guess. 😳

obviously not. but I don't want to be so hard on myself that I stop enjoying some silly music every now and then.

I don't know—it feels kind of silly trying to make my takes on music sound all intellectual and stuff. 🙂

Alex Scott22 said:"Everything's fine because... I don't know... it just makes you happy." Basically—don't dig too deep and don't overthink things. I guess that mindset is healthier and closer to actual human nature, but it has this one massive flaw—you can't really build anything from it. It undermines any standard other than "I feel good." You aren't being tough on yourself. And besides... that kind of attitude just leaves you wide open to consumerism.

Could you clarify that a bit? Does it mean I’m not allowed to like Beyoncé? 😬

Anyway, regarding how much more modest people used to be—back then, everyone was practically naked, and today? Well, it's the same story. I don't really agree with that view, but we’ve probably been over this a thousand times already. It seems like you just can't fight nostalgia with logic—so, fine, have it your way. You guys were better. 😛

I don't really see why someone needs to be a genius to make good music—or why music should sound particularly smart in the first place. I mean, if you're into fertilizer, you probably know how that works. 🙂

I don't know—I'm not really feeling this one. 🙂

Kevin Chavez3 said:I guess there isn't much to say yet—just waiting around, I suppose.Nah.The kind of wholesome artists I find myself dancing to whenever the mood strikes—Sugababes, gold records, Alice Cooper, maybe some old-school hip-hop, Beyoncé, Iron Maiden, UB40... and whatever else. 👋

I don't really see many unconscious people here—though I guess being unconscious while you're out there dancing is a slightly different story.

The Ramones are basically art—just because they can churn out those hits like that is impressive, whether it’s pure instinct or just calculated, I guess. 🙏 The same goes for Toxic or, say, Ćakdi. 🙏 )
🤣

you tell a pretty good story 👍

I don't really get why someone would bother asking "what do you think of kopito" just to turn around and act like a condescending jerk when people say they aren't fans 🙄

Geez, when did I even say that...😎 😬

Let's talk about Tedek!!!image

I'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to Tedek—only really fell down the rabbit hole a few weeks ago—so here's some dry info I pulled from the internet:

After Chisel wrapped up, Tedek (which was his old band, though I guess being new means I'm not quite sure how much joy that actually brings 😳), recorded something called Ted Leo(?), Rx / Pharmacists back in '99, which is supposedly a bit dubby. Then, wandering down some wrong turns in 2000, he put out the ep Treble in Trouble, followed by Tyranny of distance, which apparently made him a hit.
That same year, the prolific Tedek and Pharmacists released Hearts of Oak. Then there's the ep Tell Balgeary, Balgury is dead, and then this absolute gem:

image

It’s the only one I’ve listened to properly, and honestly, it's all killer no filler—pretty upbeat, danceable, great for singalongs, and Tedek is just kind of Micek like that. 😍 A total front-line angel 🙂

As for Micek, he's on touch & go now with a new album, Living with The Living. It sounds great, except maybe for that reggae bit 🙂. Brendan Canty produced it.

They're great live. ☕ 😍

Alright, true fans, come on and liven up this constructive music discussion.

Honestly, I love Suicide Pact too—no shame in that at allimage

Kenneth Collins8 said:...they always seem to throw Diane by Husker Du into the setlist, and last year at this one festival they played a pretty hardcore version... just grab a beer, listen to that cover, and you're good...😉

Man, what did they do to Diane?🤮
They just don't get how to do covers, I guess🙂

Kevin Chavez3 said:Personally, I’d just want the whole Troublegum set and nothing else, thanks very much🙂

I'd probably drop two hundred bucks on that in a heartbeat👋

If they play it like that, I might just skip seeing them👋

Bradley Vaughn3 said:where exactly do we live?

well, for example, we live here:
Thirsty Ear Festival No. 8
05.09-21.05.2007. @ Student Union Center
confirmed lineup:
howe gelb & the voices of praise gospel choir
the books
cul de sac (boston)
red sparowes
parenthetical girls
ghost
apse
the black lips
the fonda/stevens group & szilard mezei
of montreal

It’s kind of funny—people whose taste is basically ruined by all those country singers usually end up listening to the worst mainstream garbage. And they seem pretty proud of it, I guess. 🤮

Kenneth Collins8 said:...hmmm, hmmm, how is it that nobody is mentioning the main organizer of this (non)event?!...if you can guess who it is, I'll give you a ZAMP calendar and a ticket to Metallica...😬

is that you, Jesse Sanchez60? 😲 🙂
you probably would've been better off editing that post, honestly. ☕

They'll probably just play those same old hits, over and over. 😢

I'd rather just turn the knob and pull the trigger myself 😍
