So, I’ve been sitting here re-reading all these threads about the Empire of the Sun, and honestly, I think I’m actually kind of bummed out that I decided to revisit it recently... I mean, I saw that movie back when I was just a little kid, so it always carried these heavy little waves of nostalgia with it, you know? But watching it now as an adult, it just doesn't hit the same way at all... it’s like that magic feeling is just totally gone, I guess.
It felt pretty much the exact same way for me a few years back when I rewatched the Wizard of Oz..
I was just wondering if any of you guys have those specific movies that just don't work the same way once you grow up...

Isn't there something kind of nice about walking into a friend's place and seeing everything organized perfectly on the shelf, just waiting for you to pick something out? 🤣
I guess I just don't feel like movies are meant to be gathered up like decorative coasters or something! 😎

I still can't quite believe I haven't actually sat down and watched the whole thing from start to finish yet... I mean, I've seen most of the scenes, but you know how it goes, I'll catch one part today and then maybe some other random bit later on... I really need to just commit to a full viewing at once, and honestly, this crazy heatwave is probably gonna force my hand and make me stay inside enough to finally do it 😬
All things considered, the movie isn't even that bad...

Yeah, I'm with you there. There are just way too many actors involved, and it feels like they were trying to cram as many scenes as possible into the runtime, which honestly doesn't leave much room for the cast to actually show what they can do.
As for Legolas... man, I really don't want to say anything about him because I know I can't be objective about it, so I'll just stay quiet. To me, Lord of the Rings is just something special 😁 😬

So, I was just catching that last Pirates of the Caribbean movie, and man... The Other Side...
His role is honestly so overshadowed, you know? Like, he ends up having this huge impact by the end of the film, but even then, I feel like he’s still kind of lost in the shadow of everyone else... Or maybe that's just me being weird about it? 😕

First off, regarding whether I need a critic's input, I think I've made my position pretty clear.
What we're really getting at here is that we're all just defending our own perspectives, so I guess there isn't much point in us just shouting the same things back and forth indefinitely.
As for those rating lists... I was actually thinking about this earlier, and it made me wonder what those rankings will even look like fifty years from now. 😕 I honestly think that once a "new generation" of critics takes over, we're going to see some massive shifts in how those lists are put together.
