I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how much of our decision-making is actually driven by logic versus pure, raw emotion. We like to think of ourselves as these rational, calculating creatures. We read the charts, we look at the consensus, we weigh the probabilities, and we arrive at a "correct" conclusion. But if you look closely at how people actually move through the world—especially when it comes to big, life-altering choices—that logical framework seems to be incredibly fragile.

I had this weird experience last month at a family gathering. My uncle, who is usually the most skeptical, "show me the receipts" kind of guy, started talking about this incredible, harrowing story he heard from a friend of a friend. It wasn't based on anything tangible, just a single, deeply moving account of someone’s personal struggle. And the crazy thing? He was so moved by it that he was ready to throw out years of his own established beliefs. He wasn't looking at the broader trends or the overwhelming weight of evidence; he was hooked on the narrative. He was hooked on the *feeling* of that one person's experience.

It got me wondering: why is a well-told story so much more infectious than a mountain of empirical data? We are essentially hardwired for narrative. Since we were kids sitting around campfires, we’ve been shaped by stories. A story has a hero, a villain, a conflict, and a resolution. It has a heartbeat. It has a face you can picture. Data, on the other hand, is cold. It’s abstract. It’s a collection of dots on a graph that doesn't care about your personal fears or your hopes for the future.

I think we're seeing a massive shift in how "truth" is perceived in our society. It feels like we're moving away from a world where truth is something discovered through rigorous testing and peer review, and toward a world where truth is something that *feels* right. If a story resonates with your existing anxieties or your deepest values, it becomes your reality. It doesn't matter if ten thousand studies say otherwise; if one person’s story hits you in the gut, that person becomes your authority.

This seems like a massive hurdle for anyone trying to communicate anything important to the public. How do you compete with a narrative that is designed to trigger an emotional response? If you try to fight a story with more numbers, you're basically bringing a calculator to a knife fight. You're speaking a different language. The person telling the story is speaking the language of empathy and fear, while the person providing the data is speaking the language of statistics and methodology. There’s a fundamental disconnect there that I don't think we've figured out how to bridge.

I worry that we're entering an era where "expertise" is becoming secondary to "relatability." If an expert can't tell a compelling story, they're losing the room. But if we start prioritizing storytelling over accuracy, aren't we just abandoning the very thing that makes science and logic useful in the first place? We risk creating a feedback loop where we only believe what confirms the stories we already want to be true.

Is it even possible to communicate complex, technical information effectively without falling into the trap of manipulative storytelling? Or are we destined to let the most emotional voices win the debate every single time?
Skydiving in Other Sports ·
Right now, I don't have any info on what's happening at the Golden Gate Bridge this year
but, I did see they're setting up and prepping for skydiving over by the canyon
and I know they do it at Coachella too (though, honestly, Coachella isn't really my scene)
as for the feeling ????
look, you're better off just trying it yourself so you can realize how hard it is to actually describe that rush.....
I jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge—it was about 130 feet—and honestly... I'm speechless
The canyon jump is like 180 feet, which is an extra 50 feet, so the first chance I get, I'm diving in headfirst.. 😍

have fun 😉

You're a total tool.

Just own it.

Just like I have to deal with being perfect every single day. 🙂 🙂

If it makes you feel better, my stats are sitting at 160/54 right now... doesn't make me feel any better, since I lost all my curves.😵

I feel absolutely incredible and honestly, I’ve never been happier with how I look... all the muscle is exactly where it needs to be and hitting those 5 different workouts (from gym sessions to just staying active) has given me some seriously killer results
Looking good and feeling healthy in Health ·
I try to get at least 7 hours of sleep, but honestly, if I have to be up before 8 AM, I am basically a zombie and incapable of human speech until at least 9 😢 (so basically, I’m "out of order" for an hour every single morning, five days a week)
I hit the gym for about 6 to 10 hours a week (mostly cardio and some machine work at the local gym)
I try to eat breakfast, but it’s usually just some tasty pastry, and once my jeans start feeling tight, I end up tossing that out 😢
I drink water like it’s my job—people have joked that I should just hook myself up directly to the main water line 😕
And now, trying to squeeze in 5 meals... I have no clue what to eat that much. I try to make sure at least one of them is a real, solid meal
I definitely don't touch chips or any of that junk, nor do I eat greasy food (my stomach just can't handle it... it hits me hard)
Fruits and veggies are my bread and butter (along with plenty of chocolate 😵)
My weight is decent (5'3" and around 120 to 128 lbs)

If anyone actually has a recipe for avoiding stress, please, for the love of God, hit me up 🙂

I don't smoke
I don't drink (water is my only vice)

So, am I healthy? What's my total score looking like?!
🎉

Patrick Fowler83 said:It feels like everyone here acts like they’re staying fit, but nobody actually takes care of their body. To be clear, if you're constantly active, you shouldn't just randomly gain 20 pounds, go on a diet, lose it, and then immediately pack it all back on again.

Basically, nobody has any real health consciousness (which obviously includes working out)

No offense intended and
without making assumptions (though it seems like Justin Ramos2 is the most active one among us when it comes to fitness)

Sorry, but what exactly is she doing?!
All I see from her is a bunch of "NO" posts; I don't recall seeing a single thing where she actually mentions hitting the gym.

I'm big into running right now—trying to get my miles in before the weather turns cold and the days start getting shorter—but I also hit the gym, do some high-energy aerobics, roll in on my skates occasionally, play some badminton, and man, I absolutely LOVE bouldering.

And no, I don't touch any gear or supplements.

CIN 1 diagnosis: What should I expect? in Health ·
e, seriously, thank you so much... I was already freaking out big time... I know, the doctor said it wasn't anything serious... I'm just going in for checkups every six months (though he might push it to nine) and I'm pretty sure he mentioned they didn't find any WHO... but honestly, I was so terrified I completely blanked on everything. thanks 🙂
CIN 1 diagnosis: What should I expect? in Health ·
For the first time ever, my Pap smear came back wonky... my doctor basically gave me the "it's fine, don't worry about it" shrug while telling me I have CIN and then dumped a mountain of vaginal suppositories on me—two boxes of Geonistine and one box of Betadine
So now I’m turning to you smart ladies here: is this actually dangerous?! 😢

thanks in advance
Don't laugh... I'm actually being serious. in Health ·
a haaaa, my bad—you clearly saw it with your own two eyes, so you know the deal... my mistake 😁
but seriously, I still think he needs to just get his act together and head out
Don't laugh... I'm actually being serious. in Health ·
It’s not stupid at all... honestly, based on how you're describing this (your overly technical breakdown), I'm thinking you might have developed hemorrhoids. 😉Go see a doctor, they'll get you sorted out.
Where is the cleanest tattoo shop in LA? in Health ·
I’ve actually sat in the chair for Robbia and Mustard twice now... both times Mustard was the one doing the "art"... honestly a great guy, and the shop is totally
clean.... I got my first tattoo four years ago, then my second one last year.. the first one was pretty small, cost me about $73 (just a little red rose on my back, didn't hurt at all, took maybe an hour)
the second one was way bigger, a tiger on my stomach, and let me tell you, it hurt like hell, lasted about 3 hours, and set me back $150

There's this body care place over at the Grove Hotel (Carpe Diem) - they do those temporary tattoos that last a couple of weeks (you know, not permanent, so if someone isn't 100% sure they want ink for life, they should probably go there)

Anyway, that's my two cents.. sorry about the typos - my keyboard is acting up and the letters are going haywire 😢((😲
