Larry Walker24 said:can we please just finally stop having these debates about pedophilia?

Maybe it’s best if we just sweep all this filth under the rug and move on...
The sex offender registry and other issues surrounding pedophilia

is a topic that was moved from Politics over to Law.

When it comes to pedophilia—and I’ve only pointed out two specific instances in just three days this February—it feels like everyone is just staying silent...

The issue isn't necessarily about the laws themselves, but rather the lack of actual policy to bring those laws to life.

Take that registry that the media said was supposed to be active by January 1st; aside from a brief mention on some nightly news broadcast, there hasn't been a single word about it since...

And as far as I can tell, our educational institutions don't seem to have any real obligation to vet their staff to ensure they aren't predators.

All of this information has left me feeling completely shaken, and I honestly find it hard to wrap my head around how such a critical issue can just be ignored like this...

So, I am asking you all to please move this thread back to Politics, because that is where the responsibility lies—to implement the measures needed to protect our society and our children from such depravity.

I appreciate your understanding...

Well, I just checked back in and it looks like everything over on that thread has completely gone off the rails...

People are throwing around accusations of fascism from every single direction now, so bringing up the supermod isn't even the main issue anymore...

As far as I'm concerned, you guys can go ahead and carry on however you like...

Raymond Ross33 said:What exactly did Gregory Turner71 do, acting as a mod, that would give you grounds to complain about him, specifically regarding his role?

Just making a regular post on a thread? 😁

I suppose you have a point that this whole situation is open to interpretation...

He did technically write a post as a regular user, but my gut feeling is that this particular post isn't being treated quite the same way it would be if any other random guy had typed it up...

I guess I'm just trying to figure out if people are reacting this way because of his title, or if there truly isn't anything wrong here and I should probably stop throwing around heavy labels like fascism all over the board...

If we could just settle this uncertainty through some simple forum critic feedback, I really wouldn't feel the need to come here and vent like this...

Raymond Ross33 said:Why didn't you just take that specific complaint over to the "forum critic" thread? You actually started that whole topic specifically so we could tell each other what's on our minds...

Because I'm sure using that particular phrase isn't any worse than calling someone a slur or an epithet just to try and "remove" them from the conversation entirely...

We should all be held to the same standard, not just them. Honestly, I expected more from you, my friend 😢 (not 😁)

Gregory Turner71 isn't just some random guy on this board.

I'm pointing out his behavior because he's acting more like a moderator than a regular user, regardless of whether he actually holds a mod position in the politics section or not...

If there are grievances regarding how things are being moderated, this is exactly where they belong.

I'm simply following the rules...

Gregory Turner71 said:Haha... basically religious fascists teaming up with declining right-wing parties to import some dusty old American hate-monger, while certain people are actually worried about the LGBTQ+ community causing trouble... 🤣

This marks the second time I’ve noticed this particular moderator using the term "religious fascists" to describe anyone who clearly doesn't align with his specific worldview...

If throwing around labels like "fascist" at random is considered acceptable behavior here in America, then I suppose we should all be allowed to slap fascist labels on people too, unless somehow that privilege is reserved strictly for him...

Honestly, if a regular forum member gets docked points for similar kinds of nonsense, then I really feel like the supermod deserves a much steeper penalty, something that would definitely include stripping away those colorful little icons in his username...

Thanks.
Charles Fox10 said:As if we didn't have enough to talk about regarding sex education, now we need yet another topic on top of it all.

Generally speaking, topics centered around "why the right wing is X and the left wing is Y" and stuff along those lines aren't really welcome here on the forum... because if we just let everything like that circulate, this whole place would basically turn into nothing more than a repetitive poll of liberals versus conservatives.

It seems like almost every single discussion eventually devolves into this leftists vs. rightists dynamic.

If I were to actually start typing out my thoughts on this connection between the left wing and sexuality within the context of sex education, someone would probably just delete it or claim I was trolling, wouldn't they...

Clearly, when I bring up the subject of sex, I'm not just talking about the physical act itself, but rather its entire "political superstructure"...

Perhaps that's where most of the misunderstanding lies...
Do I really need to provide more arguments?

Or maybe just a bunch of links covering every single political topic on this forum?

I have to admit, I’m starting to lose my motivation when I find myself having to defend the very things the left actually prides itself on...
Ryan Vaughn7 said:I've got a killer comeback ready to go, but I really shouldn't say it.

Looking at those two threads you pulled, the first one is absolute garbage—if someone tried opening a thread like that today, it would be deleted instantly... and the second one, if you look closely, approaches the whole thing from a completely different angle than yours does.

I know exactly what line you're thinking of. 🙂

But honestly, you just keep ignoring the links provided here.

If Makavejev was already dissecting this exact subject back when he was working in the old Eastern Bloc, then it really makes you wonder how far we've fallen lately...
Ryan Vaughn7 said:Like Sophia Thomas7 said, you’ve done a pretty good job masking it, but it still wouldn't fly...

Yeah, I guess I was being a bit slow there, handing you that exact link on a silver platter...

It's from a highly respected gay author. ☕
William Bennett53

Threads like this have already been posted on the forum before, and they haven't been deleted or locked down yet...

The supposed "intellectual" leftists versus the "ignorant" right-wingers... it’s an old debate, isn't it? I find myself sitting here thinking about how we constantly categorize people based on these rigid ideological lines, as if intelligence were somehow tethered to one side of the political spectrum or the other... It feels like we've built this entire social structure around the idea that certain viewpoints are inherently more sophisticated, while others are just reactionary noise, though when you really start peeling back the layers of those arguments, the distinction starts to blur in such a strange way... We see it everywhere in American discourse, this constant posturing where everyone assumes they hold the high ground of reason, while the opposition is just stumbling through some sort of primitive confusion... But then again, if you look at the actual substance behind the rhetoric, you realize that both sides are often just performing for their own echo chambers, chasing after different versions of truth that feel equally valid to them in the moment... It makes me wonder if true intellect actually exists outside of these tribal loyalties, or if we're all just trapped in these cycles of self-justification that prevent us from ever truly seeing the other side for what it actually is... maybe the gap between the "smart" and the "stupid" isn't about IQ at all, but rather about which set of illusions we choose to believe in...
I’ve been sitting here for a while just turning this over in my mind, wondering why there seems to be such a pervasive, almost reflexive assumption that those on the right are somehow lacking in intellect, while everyone leaning left feels this quiet, unshakable certainty that they possess some higher level of cognitive clarity... It’s a strange phenomenon to observe, really, because when you look closely at the motivations behind these polarized views, you start to see how much of it isn't actually about raw intelligence at all, but rather about the different ways we process information and the specific frameworks we use to make sense of a world that feels increasingly chaotic... I find myself questioning if we aren't all just trapped in our own little bubbles of perceived superiority, where we mistake our own familiarity with certain ideas for an objective truth, while dismissing anyone who operates under a different set of values as being fundamentally incapable of understanding the complexities of modern life... It makes me wonder if the divide is less about brainpower and more about a deep-seated psychological need to feel like we have the moral high ground, which then manifests as this condescension toward anyone who doesn't share our exact worldview...
Matthew Anderson said:So, you basically stripped away the homosexual aspect because you figured it would be easier to get something like that scrubbed than if you just tried to tone it down?

That specific text is really just one single instance of the larger pattern.

What I was actually trying to get at with my "chamomile" analogy was how certain people approach the subject when they write about it...

And my point isn't built solely on that one text, but rather on other examples too, like that film by Dušan Makavejev we discussed earlier, which isn't strictly limited to just Left-wing Homosexuality...

I think I laid out my initial thesis clearly enough, and I fully intended to defend it with actual arguments...

The core of the issue is sexuality in a general sense, not just specifically regarding homosexuality...
Ryan Vaughn7 said:Where exactly is this happening, all the time, everywhere? Aside from stumbling upon a single random post in the vast wilderness of the internet and throwing out a quote from some follower of Freud—who, by your own admission, you don't actually grasp—how does that prove your theory holds any weight? What is truly groundbreaking here compared to the five other threads already debating these exact same points? Based on what specific analysis, or study, or actual data, would you claim the left is more tied to sexuality than the right? On what grounds? Perhaps you can talk some sense into me, because so far, this opening post just feels like someone trolling...

Oh boy, how many links do you really need...

Alright, fine, here is an article that mentions certain names and summarizes the part regarding the connection between leftist leanings and homosexuality.

Left-wing Homosexuality: Emancipation, Sexual Liberation, and Identity Politics

Just take a look at who wrote this piece.

And you might notice that I have actually toned things down quite a bit, expanding the scope to encompass sexuality in general rather than focusing strictly on the homosexual aspect...
"W.R. Mysteries of the Organism" is an American docudrama shot back in 1971, directed by Dušan Makavejev, and it really dives deep into the life and theories of the psychiatrist Wilhelm Reich... specifically looking at how communist politics and sexuality intersect. Because it took such a "controversial" look at communist ideology, the film was essentially shoved into a "vault" shortly after its initial release, only seeing any airtime on American television much later in the late 1980s. Outside of the States, though, it actually managed to develop this sort of cult following...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._R._Mysteries_of_the_Organism

How does Civil Action put it?

Spot the difference!

Or something along those lines...
Wandering through the aimless pathways of internet virtuality, I stumbled upon a rather curious question. "Is it possible to be a leftist while simultaneously being against gay rights? I consider myself a left-leaning, tolerant heterosexual, but the idea of male homosexuality repulses me," claimed a representative from one online forum community. To be perfectly honest, I didn't even bother reading what anyone else replied, because frankly, it didn't interest me at all...

You might have been misled as well if you thought this specific topic was the actual point. It isn't, because I am interested in a much broader context. What truly fascinates me is that deep, constant connection between leftist politics and sex, which is why I titled this thread "Why are leftists so obsessed with sex?". Regardless of whether one is hetero, homo, some third thing, or who knows what other form, that link between sexuality and leftist ideology is always vividly apparent...

A student of Freud, the Austrian psychiatrist and radical leftist Wilhelm Reich once argued that "sexual prohibitions are tools used by the wealthy and powerful to oppress and subjugate the masses." I don't quite grasp the full weight of his claim, but he was certainly tracing the lines of a sort of sexual Marxism. And if we take a quick peek into history, we see a massive array of examples where sexology and leftist ideologies are intertwined...

If we look in the opposite direction—from politics toward sex—we encounter the exact same phenomenon. We don't even need to dig deep into history or look far into the Western world to be convinced of this. From our own federal government down to the most basic leftist mob, sex is immensely important to everyone, which is clearly visible in how sex education is handled. It's so significant that even a slightly different way of thinking about sex can call the entire leftist political worldview into question, just like in the example of the forum user mentioned at the start...

To paraphrase our Secretary of Education, you can debate almost anything regarding the left, except for sex. Truly, we haven't seen such intense digging into trenches, even when defending anti-fascism. Sex, it seems, has outgrown leftist ideology itself. It no longer seeks refuge within the left; rather, the left seeks refuge in sex as its own ideology. After so many ideological failures, they seem to think they've finally found a sure bet...

And there you have it, I’ve unintentionally answered the question "why is the left so obsessed with sex?" But please, don't let that discourage you from sharing your own perspective. I thank you in advance...

This is how I opened the thread, which was deleted after only a few posts.

The topic I brought up isn't some figment of my imagination, but something that is discussed frequently, everywhere...

Why can't we discuss it here?

Thank you in advance.

dustyfalcon3 said:It looks like Daniel Ward87 has finally realized his lifelong dream. About a week or two ago, he unilaterally decided to invent a new verbal offense, so apparently, you aren't allowed to write "Catholic Taliban" anymore—even if you aren't talking about the users here—because suddenly you get slapped with a 500-point penalty. Of course, calling non-right-wing opinions or links "communist" or "Soviet" is still perfectly fine; our dear little guy doesn't seem to mind that at all. He hasn't made it onto the blacklist of Reddit’s unsung censors just yet, though who knows when that will happen.
Well... aside from a few exceptions like some prominent moderators (Brenda Cook4, El Niño, Daniel Ward87...) and a handful of regulars, I don't see anyone doing anything about this disgrace. And Daniel Ward87? He moved even faster to shut down the thread to prevent a repeat of what happened a few years back. Back then, he tried the same thing, but both the believers and the skeptics chased him right off the topic, forcing him to back down. Naturally, since negative selection seems to be the rule rather than the exception in America, it only emboldened him to take on this "stronger" administrative role to finally enforce what was "unfairly" blocked before.

Sadly, just a week or two ago, we didn't have people like James Patel20 or slybison8 around to rebel against this kind of virtual bullying. And now, predictably... censorship has come knocking on their doors. Now we have the offended crying, accusing others of "snitching," and actually calling for *more* censorship. They are absolutely, completely oblivious to the absurdity of such a demand.

My friend James Patel20, where were you and people like you when Strile was imposing censorship on those who disagreed with you? If you had stood up with everyone else back then, maybe more people could be supporting you now. But instead, nothing... censorship was imposed on everyone else too... and now everyone lives in fear of every single occurrence... damn it. Maybe you'll learn that sometimes you actually have to fight together, because you can't fix censorship... by adding more censorship. 🤦

By the way, James Patel20, even though I find many of your posts (and slybison8's, for that matter) to be completely moronic, and quite often incredibly insulting to any intelligent and rational human being, I do support your right to freedom of thought and speech. That includes your utterly idiotic conspiracy theories about "paid" LGBT rallies and other nonsense.

So, how exactly should we label your own posts then?

Since you're attributing someone else's quote about "paid" rallies to me...

And what kind of "idiotic and moronic" support would a kid like me even offer?

It would just ruin your "highly intelligent" crusade against the "Catholic Taliban" and their defenders...

Maybe you should go look for allies for this "holy war" of yours somewhere a bit more logical...

Like right here!

It simply bothered me because I personally know someone being labeled as nothing more than a common mercenary, and that’s all there is to it. People throw around labels too easily, forgetting that everyone involved is a flesh-and-blood human being with a real name and reputation. 🙂

It’s that classic issue where people with a certain "leftist" worldview tend to blur the lines between an individual and the entire organization they work for...

Unless we're talking about a one-man operation, in which case I guess I’d owe you an apology...

But looking at this group, I suspect that’s exactly what’s happening here...

slybison8 said:As I mentioned before, I am somewhat concerned about how such threats might affect the discussion itself, specifically regarding whether every argument presented gets an equal opportunity to be heard.

I don't really know if the person making the threat will actually follow through with it or not—and honestly, I guess it doesn't really concern me personally.

Perhaps they will file the report, or perhaps they are just trying to act important and intimidate their interlocutor with the threat of a report to force them to withdraw from the conversation.

From my perspective as a moderator, that particular aspect is what seems problematic.

Regarding compliance with the Law of the United States, I feel that moderators should be the ones ensuring discussions respect American laws, which is why our posting rules state that non-compliant posts should be reported to us. This doesn't rule out the possibility of something being reported outside of the Forum, but I believe that such actions shouldn't necessarily be broadcasted within the discussion.

Otherwise, the issue I am addressing here and what actually occurred with hiddenlynx66's alleged report are not quite the same thing.

hiddenlynx66 shared the content of the post with private individuals who he believes were harmed. I don't have an issue with that, although I suppose it could have been handled in a slightly calmer or more appropriate manner—but then again, it wouldn't be the hiddenlynx66 we know. 🙂

So, he wasn't reporting this to the Police or the Department of Justice, but rather to the people being discussed in the thread. One can only hope that those individuals won't immediately rush to the Police like litigious busybodies, and instead, they might first join the Reddit community to share their side of the story.

Of course it’s problematic, and under the new rules, it really ought to be sanctioned...

Otherwise, you’re essentially allowing everyone to play judge and jury on what constitutes libel...

And then they use those own subjective judgments to threaten others with reports or disciplinary actions...

Just keep the "sovereignty" of the forum intact...🙂

Christian Torres3 said:That’s all true, but we're talking about accountability here. Does someone have the right to sue over something said about them on a forum if they claim their rights were violated? Yes. Does someone have the right to report a post on a forum? Of course. And it’s also the moderator's right to step in if they think it's messing up the discussion. Even The Destroyer's buddy has the right to complain if he doesn't like a report and wants action taken, though I'm pretty skeptical that anyone will actually listen to him.

Bottom line: stop throwing around accusations and claims you can't back up.

But I wonder if that same bit of advice shouldn't be applied first and foremost to those supposedly serious news outlets, especially the ones backed by the government...

Christian Torres3 said:I think you're wrong, and honestly, you said enough for me to be pretty damn sure about that.
And just like that, someone actually pipes up here with the exact same issue I was just pointing out.

I don't know all the specifics here, but I know enough to know exactly how to track down whoever wrote that trash. Between my background in law enforcement and my experience in IT, finding them will be easy.
Like I said, this topic is way too huge to tackle all at once. We need to focus on what we can actually control: banning the users who try to weaponize reports as threats.

If I think someone broke some American law, I have every right to report them. Same goes for calling them out here on Reddit. It’s the Moderator's job to step in if they think the discussion is getting out of hand, and it's your right to complain about whatever you want.
Reddit doesn't need self-appointed moderators, and I certainly don't need some wannabe cops breathing down my neck.

Look, this is a forum. People debate here. If you don't have the balls for that, go find somewhere else.

He can make whatever claims he wants, really, because I certainly won't be filing a lawsuit against him, even if he isn't strictly correct...

I don't know all the specifics regarding this situation, though it's clear enough to identify who wrote that controversial piece, both from my perspective as a former police officer and as an IT professional.

It sounds more like you're speaking as a cop than as an IT guy, if I'm being honest...

If I believe someone has violated any laws of the United States in one way or another, it is my right to file a report. It is also my right to state that publicly here on Reddit. It is the Moderator's right to step in if they deem it inappropriate for the discussion, and it is your right to complain about whatever you please.

There goes that cop mentality again...

This is a forum, a place for debate, so if you don't have the guts for it, maybe find somewhere else to hang out.

And there's the cop talking again...

What you need is brains, not guts...

That's what's actually required for a place like this, Harry...
