Issues with my HP Envy Series printer in Computer Peripherals ·
George Morgan67 said:Thanks a ton for the help.

No worries

Look, you know I don't just blabber without thinking things through first. I try to weigh my options before speaking up. Also, there's always a chance those printers just sold out in the meantime.

George Morgan67 said:So, I did a little digging online. All I can find are ink refills for the HP Envy series, but finding an actual printer from that lineup here in the States... man, they're nowhere to be found. It's just ink everywhere.

And I’m definitely not buying one through some random eBay seller or sketchy site. If it dies while it's still under warranty, who am I supposed to call to fix it?

I even checked the official HP website looking for those specific models, but even there, they’re just pushing the ink instead of selling the actual hardware.

George Morgan67 said:Huh, sounds pretty complicated. What would happen if I tried mixing those Unknown cartridges with standard ink in this printer?

Because I was looking into how people handle the HP Envy... but it doesn't seem like much of a thing here in the States. Or maybe there just isn't a lot of info available. Does HP actually make those Unknown inks, or is it some other brand?

Just grab an HP Envy along with the Unknown stuff—either the specific refills or universal ink. You'll be set for at least two years that way.

If you can't find the Unknown cartridges, just hit up Google and search >> Unknown + ink + refill cartridges

George Morgan67 said:Can those Hummingbird refill kits or permanent cartridges work in an HP OfficeJet Pro WF-3010DW?

Look, this thing isn't an all-in-one, but I've already got a scanner, so I don't really care about the extra features.

T1291 - T1294 will work.
T711 - T714 WON'T WORK.

ambergardener3 said:Basically, I'm looking for some advice on picking up a monochrome laser printer.

I usually print about 100 pages a month.
So, I need something budget-friendly, maybe around $233. Also, I don't want to get ripped off when it's time to swap out the toner...

Thanks, cheers.

Honestly, just grab whatever fits your budget and toss it once you run through the starter toner. They're all pretty much the same stuff, man.

Your best bet might be grabbing the cheapest HP you can find, getting the toner refilled once, and then just ditching the whole thing to start over with a new machine. That way, those 2,500 pages end up costing you maybe $900--$333
Why?
Because let's face it, printers these days are basically disposable, just like the cartridges inside them.

Obviously, you don't need a machine rated for 14,000 pages for $333 + tax
Auto duplex printing + ink refill recommendations? in Computer Peripherals ·
Steven Nelson8 said:Since my trusty HP OfficeJet has probably kicked the bucket, I'm looking for some advice on a new inkjet. Ideally, something with auto double-sided printing where I can actually find cheap third-party ink. I checked out some of those newer Canon models with auto duplexing, but from what I can tell, there aren't any compatible refill inks available yet. I'm open to other brands too if you guys have any solid recommendations. 🙂

Why would they even bother making third-party ink for brand-new Canons when just buying the official refill sets is way more cost-effective anyway? 10 *

Lawrence Scott82 said:So, I'm looking to pick up a printer/scanner combo, and I'm torn between these two:

HP DeskJet 2515 Advantage

and

EPSON Stylus SX435W

I'm not exactly a tech genius, so I could use some help—people rave about the Epson being fast and having great print quality, but apparently, it gulps down ink like crazy and won't even run if one of the four cartridges is missing.

On the flip side, the HP seems pretty solid too, but you can't really use any cheap third-party ink with it.

What do you guys think?

Honestly, the best move is definitely going with the SX 535 + Colibri like you mentioned + Colibri ink.

The only catch is that these newer Colibri cartridges have built-in batteries, and those batteries usually die after 6 to 12 months, making them totally useless. That wasn't an issue with the older generation of Colibri stuff, which makes the older printers way better than the new ones. It's the same deal with any off-brand cartridges. You end up buying a pig in a poke, and then the whole thing stops working because of a battery. Since the battery costs more than the cartridge itself, you basically just throw the whole thing in the trash.

Obviously, that's coming out of your own pocket.

Spot on. Anything under $267 is basically just buy it and toss it. Those engineers make their money back on the ink prices. And when it comes to $333, they’ve already recouped the R&D through the initial sticker price of the printer, so there isn't even as much pressure to squeeze you on the ink.

You really think engineers are out there dreaming up laser printers? Nah. They build the gear, while the economists cook up some nonsense that you eventually end up swallowing whole.

Kyle Davis6 said:Did you happen to include a new tint in his options? 🤷

I've been messing around with HP printers for way too long to not see all the little tricks their engineers try to pull on us.

Look, if you want some actual advice, just stay far away from those cheap, bottom-of-the-barrel printers while you still can. Seriously. Your time is way too valuable to waste on junk, and honestly, you might as well save that extra cash for something better while you’ve still got it in your pocket.

Andrew Roberts3 said:Hey everyone.

I'm running into a bit of a headache and hoping someone here can help me out. I picked up an HP LaserJet Pro about two or three weeks ago. The black ink that came with the printer already ran out, so I grabbed some third-party stuff (Epson, not original HP ink). But here's the thing: when I slot the cartridge in, the printer won't recognize it—it just acts like there's no ink at all. Even weirder, it’s doing the same thing with my color cartridge, even though that one is original HP. If I put the empty black cartridge back in, everything looks fine again (it shows black is empty and color is full). I'm totally lost. Is there some setting in the printer menu to make it accept non-brand cartridges, or...

Thanks in advance for any help.

No clue.

Just toss it in the trash and grab an Epson + Canon setup instead. It actually works.

1. Scanning & copying == ??%
2. Printing === ?? %

If your answer for number one is under 10%...

Go grab a hammer and whack yourself on the head until that number hits at least 30 or 40%.

Got it?

Either you grab this software and pair it with an HP Canon or an HP printer with a busted print head == 10 - $6.75
+ HP LaserJet 1200 or 1300 and just copy stuff until you're blue in the face.

It's literally a one-button job.

What's the actual difference between the HP 1132 and that HP 1212 you suggested? Looks like they use the same toner, and the HP 1212 just has a fax feature which I don't even need.
Is there any real difference in print quality or the scanner?

Look, let's be real here—be honest with yourself and put it down on paper.

Grab a hammer and give yourself a little tap on the head until that number hits at least 30 or 40%.

darkowl12 said:How many copies can you actually get out of those cheap MF inkjet printers before they die? From what I've read online, the feedback isn't great. Or is it just your theory that they're ONLY meant for scanning and color stuff, while you need a laser for actual printing?
Are there any newer printers out there that hit that same sweet spot of quality and price as that HP LaserJet 1300?

Look, I'm not loaded, and I'm not blind either. That's why I'm asking around. I don't want anyone pulling the wool over my eyes.

Listen, manufacturers are sneaky. They act all sweet to win you over, circling you like a hungry cat at the door. They give you exactly what you ask for—all that love and attention. But once they've had their fill, you can basically tell them where to go until they come back with a new offer.

Just think about it.

What do you really want? All that "attention," or a ton of prints for your buck?

That inkjet is basically just a scanner, because that’s pretty much what you’re paying for. You just install some software that PRETENDS to be a copier and let the laser handle the heavy lifting.

Picture this: 3,000 - 4,000 prints == $200 - $77 vs. 1,000 - 1,500 == $350 - $150

That means you're paying 3x more for the same amount of work. == $1,050 - $450. If you spend that kind of cash, you could get 14,000 prints and a free HP LaserJet 1300 thrown in. Just go nuts with it.

So it's no wonder that little cat is rubbing against your legs every single morning.

Makes sense?

darkowl12 said:I'm looking to pick up a printer. After crunching the numbers on printer costs versus ink prices—and realizing how cheap some inkjets can be—I've decided a laser all-in-one is probably my best bet.

I'm leaning towards these models (since the only decent tech shop in San Francisco Microelectronics is:

(toner $107)

toner FROM $172 TO

toner $245

Anyone got any solid advice?

Just grab a cheap MF inkjet plus an HP LaserJet 1300 along with 3 extra toners.

For about $500, you get basically the same utility, plus 14,000 pages, color printing, and two separate machines.

With what they're asking here, for roughly $500, you're just getting a starter toner for maybe 500 pages and then another 1,000 to 1,500 pages per extra toner.

If you're actually loaded enough that you can't tell the difference between a good deal and a total rip-off, maybe donate some of that cash to people who actually need it.

rustypanther39 said:I haven't a clue😁...I just grab individual toner cartridges whenever I feel like it

120+100== 220 + tax == $92 == 440 ml

440 ml / approx 5.5 ml == 80 cartridges + 20% = 96 cartridges. Basically, you always leave about 20% of the ink in there so the print head doesn't dry up while sitting idle.

275/96 = $0.97 per cartridge

meaning

Later on, it's just refilling the ink
400 ml == 87 cartridges == $42
125/87 == $0.47 per cartridge

Or basically, 90 - 1.4/90 == 98% cheaper per cartridge than the OEM ones.

And honestly, who’s crazy enough to ditch their local shop in Indianapolis just to save 98%? Clearly, you guys love those roadside flowers way too much to step on them.$10

rustypanther39 said:I'm not sure if I followed you correctly🙂...does the pack include all 4 ink cartridges$29??

Not quite
Effectively 88 cartridges == $40 + 100 or $50(depending on the ink maker, 4 * 100 ml) + tax

The real question is how much you actually get out of a Hummingbird cartridge versus an original one
