Ink for HP Envy series in Computer Peripherals ·
Gerald Thomas65 said:you missed my point... I don't even have the printer or the ink yet... I just need to know which ones work with it so I can figure out the total cost

Ink tank setup: FINE tanks - HP 61 ink cartridge, HP 61 ink cartridge (optional - HP 61 ink cartridge, HP 61 ink cartridge)

We're talking about the HP region 5 area

Gerald Thomas65 said:Hey guys, can anyone help me out? I'm trying to figure out which ink my HP Envy series actually uses. Every single thing I find online says it takes HP 61 ink cartridge and CL-513, but when I check the printer, those just don't work... They also mention HP 61 ink cartridge and CL-211, but I can't find those anywhere here in New York City... Anyone got a clue???

That first number is just the region code. Around here, we're on region 2.

Honestly, just take your cartridges and find a local shop that does refills.

The reason is that the "3" indicates the capacity. Basically, the xx2 and xx3 versions hold 100% more ink than the xx0 and xx1 ones. You get way more bang for your buck.

It's your call.

These manual instructions make zero sense to me. Apparently, you're supposed to pull some edge guide, but not too hard? I tried, but it won't budge, and now I'm terrified I'm gonna snap something. Anyone actually know how to feed the paper in here? What am I missing? Is it just me being an idiot? HELP me out.🤷

Just take it back to the store and have them show you how to do it.

Jamie Wilson87 said:🤷Hey guys, I really need some help here. I'm totally stuck between three different printers and can't decide which way to go: an Epson EcoTank series printer
a Canon Pixma mg5250
an HP Envy series printer
They all seem pretty similar when it comes to performance and price, and they all have third-party ink options available, but I'm just spinning my wheels. If anyone has used any of these, please let me know what you think so I can make a choice. Thanks a ton!!!!!!

If it were me, I’d go with the Epson EcoTank series printer plus some high-quality refillable ink kits.
The Canon and HP models aren't bad, but they aren't exactly Plug and Play when it comes to using cheaper replacement inks.

It looks like you might have had a typo there! Did you mean "incomplete"? If you were trying to share something or ask a question, just hit me up again. I'm ready when you are. kaže:
What kind of printer should I grab if I want to use cheaper third-party ink?🙂

HP OfficeJet Pro or something like that?

Look, help me understand why you’d even bother buying a new laser printer if you aren't planning on sticking with the expensive OEM cartridges.

Or, let me put it this way:

With these newer laser models, you can't just find cheap third-party toners everywhere. Most "alternatives" out there are just recycled units mass-produced overseas, whereas what we usually see here is just local refilling.

Basically, if you're dead set on using cheap replacement toner, you should be looking at a printer specifically designed for it. That way, for the same amount of cash, you actually get like 10 times the page yield.

Right now, you paid $200 for that ML 1660, but you only walked away with 500 pages. A fresh toner that gives you 1,500 pages would run you about $150.

So, you're basically dropping a total of $333 just to hit 2,000 pages, all because you wanted the satisfaction of unboxing something shiny and new.

If that matters that much to you, then just go ahead and buy the official Apple toner. Honestly, once it's in the cartridge, the print quality is all that counts. Everything else—the plastic, the box—is just junk you're going to throw away anyway. It's the exact same packaging you got when you first bought the thing.

It's like buying a brand-new Mustang and then putting the cheapest possible tires on it and running it on low-grade fuel.

Where can I pick up some compatible toner or ink? Or better yet, does anyone know a good spot to get my original cartridges refilled? Right now, I'm hunting for a Samsung toner for an SCX-4200 laser printer, plus some toner for an HP LaserJet Pro
Thanks in advance for any leads!

Maybe you mean an HP LaserJet Pro?

Also, which way should I go with brands? Like, if you could break down the pros and cons for HP, Canon, or Epson...

You gotta give us more details.

1. How often are you actually printing?
2. What kind of volume are we talking about?

If the answer to both is >>hardly ever<<, then honestly, it doesn't matter what you grab. You'll end up paying full price for ink/toner anyway.

I'm looking to pick up a cheap inkjet at Best Buy or wherever the hell has the best deals—ideally under $200$100. Anyone know of a solid one that prints decent enough and actually has ink you can find easily at the local store? Thanks.

The only way to hit those specs is to go used. Most of the new stuff hitting shelves is basically just fancy packaging for anniversary gifts for people who live to unbox things.

If you don't believe me, throw out a model name and we'll run a comparison against its predecessor to show you how much they've stripped away.

Maybe check out some places selling refurbished printers.

You could probably snag a perfectly fine HP OfficeJet for $200 or maybe an iP3300 for about $100.

Just stay away from the brand-new ones right now. Most of them don't have any cheap third-party ink available, unless you go with an Epson.

Brandon Bailey said:rustysurfer79, man, you're totally talking nonsense here. This is wild. A dead firmware virus and Apple ink... WTF
I've got an Epson C43 and an Epson cx3200, and both have burned through 20 Orink refill cartridges ($3.25 black) without a single hiccup. Right now I've got a liter of Orink ink for $17 (from Adobe) and a chip resetter ($17, eBay). That resetter is universal, so I can even reset newer Epson models.

The Opti Office stuff is fine if you're just feeling too lazy to drive down to the store for ink.

One more thing... once you start refilling ink, you're basically voiding Epson's warranty on the print head. Just a heads up.

Seriously though, where on earth would you find someone actually writing viruses for Windows 98?

That's all I gotta say.

IT'S NOT GONNA WORK,
there’s gotta be other ways, there has to be!

Honestly, just take it to a local repair shop to get it checked out. It'll cost you a bit $17, though. Or maybe try taking it back to the store where you bought the ink. Who knows, maybe those new Epson printers actually track expiration dates now. Or maybe there's some weird version difference in the Intel on the OEM chip because of that virus thing. Man, who even knows anymore these days?

If you had gone with Apple inks, they might have even done the check for free—like, they'd swap it for a different bottle or give you your money back if the Apple inks weren't compatible with your machine.

WHAT DO I DO?

Most likely you caught one of those Epson viruses through a firmware update.

Basically, you're stuck with cartridges that won't work with the new software. All these companies are constantly playing dirty tricks on each other. Usually, if an ink brand is super popular, they become an easy target for these kinds of "viruses." Honestly, it doesn't even matter what the label on the cartridge says; it's all about how common the Intel chip manufacturer is that tries to mimic the OEM cartridges.

Mark Hill90 said:Stop talking nonsense and quit trying to peddle those ancient used printers on us.

Wrong.

You can't find a single LJ 1300 anywhere these days. But if someone actually tracks one down, they've solved their problem just like most federal agencies have. They aren't exactly rushing to swap them out for modern replacements where maintenance costs are 100% higher.

It’s pretty obvious our friend here is pushing the more expensive route. So, go ahead and decide for yourselves who's actually talking nonsense.

Clear enough?

ambersurfer5 said:Hey everyone, I could really use some advice. I need a printer where a single toner cartridge can handle more than 3,000 pages.
Price isn't an issue for me.
Also, what does "Maximum monthly duty cycle up to 50,000 pages" actually mean?
🤷 🤷 🤷

Check out the Canon ImageClass Duty Cycle

Duty Cycle basically means how many toners it could theoretically chew through in a year if you hit that limit every month during the warranty period. Honestly, finding something that hits those numbers for under 10 $0.00
might be tough.

rapidsailor11 said:I don't know... how am I supposed to check that? What should I even do now?

Just drop it off at an Intel service center. We can swap in some tested Apple cartridges that work about 90% of the time.

If they work, you're golden. If not, at least you haven't trashed your original ones or thrown the whole thing in the garbage.

HELP!!!!!!!!

Is the printer connected to the internet through your computer?

Why do I ask?

Because it was recently discovered that some manufacturers push firmware resets over the web.

YOU WON'T FIND ANYTHING OFFICIAL ABOUT THIS, OBVIOUSLY:

Basically, you have to use cartridges that haven't been "infected" by those kinds of firmware updates.

It comes with that extended 3-year warranty, the price is a total steal, and even though it’s a little noisy, it’s a pretty solid machine...

Oh, and it uses four separate color cartridges and handles third-party Epson ink just fine...

If you need a cheap, reliable all-in-one, get to Walmart before they're gone.😁

Definitely a great deal.

Better move fast, because the newer generation of HP printers carries about 50% LESS INK IN THE CARTRIDGES.
