Best printer for printing on the back of receipts? in Computer Peripherals ·
boldtinker392 said:Hey there!

So, I was wondering if anyone knows of a printer that can actually handle what I'm looking for.
I'm talking about receipts on continuous rolls or thermal paper. I need a setup where it doesn't just burn through the roll, but prints on one side and then immediately rewinds it so the roll stays usable for the next batch.

Hopefully, that makes sense.
I've been hunting for a printer like this, but I'm coming up totally empty.

Thanks in advance

Check out the EPSON R1400. It might have an attachment for pairing rolls, but it lacks the automatic rewinding feature.

Thanks.

Nicole Carter45 said:I’ve had my HP Envy for about a month and now it's printing lines right through the middle of my letters.
Is there any way to fix this? Could it be because I'm using off-brand ink? If so, can anyone recommend a good one?

Thanks 🙂
Please help me out, I have a ton of stuff to print over the next few days.😢

1. Grab some Paper Mate replacement cartridges.
2. Take the chip off the problematic cartridge along with its little base.
3. Pop that base into the cleaning tray.
4. Print out some text or just a big solid square in that color until you see things getting better.
5. If it’s still acting up, just let it sit like that for a week and then try the whole thing again.
6. Put the chip back onto your original Paper Mate ink cartridge.

Sound complicated?

Look, rustysurfer79... everything on your website is perfectly clear. But let’s be real: you have users who are either incredibly lazy or just plain forgetful. They don't bother checking if their ink is running low, and frankly, they aren't exactly eager to go through the hassle of refilling it themselves. It’s just much more convenient when the printer gives you a low-ink warning, allowing you to simply grab a new cartridge—whether it’s a third-party one or an OEM version with a chip—and pop it right in. As for the environmental aspect, this particular user actually makes an effort to separate and properly dispose of the plastic, so I'm certainly not against being eco-friendly.

I completely follow the logic behind the links you provided and I agree with your points. However, since you've gone out of your way to convince me that your company is deeply committed to product quality, I have to ask: have you started offering cartridges with chips, or are we still going to be dealing with the old method? 😉 Of course, I assume it would be wise to hold onto these original cartridges currently in my printer, wouldn't it? Just in case I eventually decide to go the refilling route.

You don't have to return the empty cartridges. That works out to be $3.25 a bit more per cartridge. Honestly, that pricing structure feels more like a teaching moment. Because, let's be real, nobody is going to hand over those cartridges to us for free.

brisktinker15 said:rustysurfer79, I honestly have no idea what you're getting at.

The answer is actually pretty simple.

You’re out here chasing brands like HP Lexmark Epson, just hoping to snag a cheap print job.

They won't tell you to your face, but they're all thinking the exact same thing: "Forget about it."

Once that reality finally hits you, well, you just gotta deal with the fallout.

And if someone tries to pitch you a different way to do it? It's basically the same deal. Only the consequences change.

However, I am now looking to make the switch over to third-party cartridges equipped with chips.

I would appreciate it if you could share your personal experiences regarding aftermarket inks and provide recommendations for any specific brands you consider to be top-tier in terms of quality!

brisktinker15 said:Help, help! After tossing my third inkjet out the window today—third one in four years—I’m seriously thinking about switching to a laser printer. I need one that does color.

The thing is, I occasionally need to print color docs for work. Every single inkjet I've owned has failed me by having the heads clog up before I even use them again. I've dumped so much cash into ink, cleaning kits, dissolving clogs, repairs, paying print shops... just constant headaches.

I've been browsing online, but honestly, the more I look, the more confused I get.
The repair shop where I usually take my printers suggests going with older models—basically saying I should grab a used laser instead. Apparently, the toner capacity on these new ones you find at big-box stores is tiny compared to the old stuff. (like an HP LaserJet Pro or a Lexmark).

Brand doesn't matter to me. I just want something easy to use with reasonably priced toner. I don't need network printing, faxing, or any other useless bells and whistles. I just want a printer that actually works when I need it, without the toner costing as much as a used car, and ideally something that lasts.

Thanks in advance for any solid advice.

You have to look at this from a different angle.

Ask yourself who actually benefits from you printing things for cheap.
Maybe the Merchant >> small profit
Maybe the State >> a little extra tax for the Treasury

Basically, everyone wants you to pay top dollar for every page.

So, you really have to hunt for someone where you can actually share the win.

You save money, and they make a little too.

Of course, if anyone actually offered you that upfront, you'd probably just scoff.
Looking for printer recommendations—any suggestions? in Computer Peripherals ·
Michelle Reed5 said:Need some advice

1) Looking for a printer that actually fits my needs—specifically for cranking out business cards. Budget is around $1333... but I need something where ink doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Like I said, the main goal is business cards. Ideally, I want duplex printing (both sides at once) and it needs to handle heavy 350gsm cardstock... though does that even exist for $1333? Maybe better quality ones are more expensive, but honestly, all I care about is high-quality card prints. I don't give a damn if it scans or does anything else. Just wants great cards.

2) Also hunting for a printer that can print directly onto CD/DVD media. Something dedicated just for that. Is there anything decent available here in the States? I've been scouring the web but can't find much. They seem to have them overseas, but what can I actually pick up in local US stores?

First off,

You’re gonna need an older inkjet model that pulls the paper in full-width. Most modern printers use those little rollers to guide the sheet, which works fine for thin paper, but it's a nightmare for heavy stock.

Suggestions:

1. HP OfficeJet Series == $500 >Cheap print costs

2. OKI C3400 == $667 Has a manual straight-through path. >Toner is pricey

Also,

Epson Expression Series

or the Canon Pixma Series
Both have their own pros and cons.

Cartridge is installed, but not detected in Computer Peripherals ·
George Alvarez3 said:Hey everyone.

My printer is an HP Deskjet 930C.
I'm using Orink ink.
Everything was working perfectly until just a couple days ago. I still have plenty left in there.

But here's the thing.

Out of nowhere, it won't detect the cartridge. If I pop in my old HP ones, it sees them, but says they're empty. But with these current ones—suddenly—it acts like they aren't even installed. Even if I try mixing an Orink cartridge with an HP one, it still treats them like they don't exist.

I know printers can be total nightmares sometimes... but... anyone got any ideas? 🤣

Why don't you just call the ink supplier and let them fix it.
ž
Basically, every ink vendor wants you buying exclusively from them.

So, if they're trying to pull that kind of move, it's worth letting other customers know.

Right???

Nicholas Lee7 said:First, a little context... My actual questions are below 🙂

Yesterday my old Canon Pixma IP1500 finally kicked the bucket... It keeps complaining that the waste ink pad is full and it refuses to print anything else. The repair shop told me it would set me back about $100.

And that’s where I’m stuck. 🙂
The thing is, this IP1500 is an absolute legend because it doesn't use chipped cartridges, so refillable ink costs me maybe $1. But honestly, some budget printers in the same class as this one are actually cheaper than $100, yet even their replacement ink runs you like $6 or more.
I mean, I’d probably shell out $100 to fix it, but there's zero guarantee that in a few months (less than a year) 🙂 something else won't just break down again...
Sure, I could try refilling the cartridges, but I've never actually done it myself...

Then there's the option of stepping up to a slightly pricier basic laser printer... those can handle like 1,500 pages without worrying about the ink drying up, and toner refills usually run anywhere from $20-$$133 depending on the model, while a brand new unit might be $35 or even more... (I'm talking about black and white lasers in the $267 range).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Questions:
1. Do you guys think it's worth fixing this old IP1500 for $100?
2. What are your experiences with print quality and page yields when using refilled cartridges? Also, does refilled ink dry up faster (not just at the nozzles, but inside the cartridges)?
3. If I'm printing maybe 20 pages a week and don't really need color, which is the better long-term move: a cheap laser or an inkjet?

Thanks for any advice or help.

If you grab an Epson L3150 + Canon Pixma replacement setup, then one single cartridge effectively ends up costing you around >> $0.50

It's actually still available.

Jeffrey Jackson3 said:Hey guys,

I'm looking for an office/multi-purpose printer—specifically a laser one for graphic work. I need to print brochures, catalogs, magazines, business cards, posters, and stuff like that where high print quality is a big deal.

I've heard people recommend Xerox models, but I wanted to know which specific ones to look at if my budget is around $10 $0.00. Since I'll be running high volumes, I really need to consider toner costs and make sure it can handle smooth, high-quality paper or even thicker cardstock. I also need something that handles up to A3 sizes so I'm not stuck just with standard letter.

Thanks for the help!

One idea

HP color LaserJet 3600

== $1333 + tax

Down the road, you can grab cheaper third-party toners like the ones in the link.
JK, it might struggle a bit with really heavy cardstock.

I picked up a laptop a few months ago and I'm running on a wireless modem. My place isn't huge, so I don't want a bulky printer taking up all my desk space. Because of that, I'm looking to grab a printer/scanner combo with WiFi built-in.
Since I only end up using a printer about once every ten days, I definitely don't need anything high-end or super expensive. Any ideas, tips, or thoughts would be awesome.
Thanks in advance, everyone..................🤷

Check out some of the newer Microsoft models; I'm pretty sure they all have WiFi.

I'm looking at picking up an HP DeskJet. Since the price is pretty low, what do you guys think about it?
How often do I actually need to use it so the print head doesn't clog up? Should I be turning it on every now and then just to stay safe? What happens if I leave it sitting for like a month without touching it?
Thanks!

What's your take on the cartridges used in the HP DeskJet?

http://www.example.com/article/ink_bondage.htm

Basically

It's a no-brainer because there's so little ink in those cartridges that it barely even has time to dry out before you're done.

Personally? I think a solid printer is worth the investment. Especially an all-in-one—you know, scanner, copier, printer, all that stuff.
If you aren't doing anything crazy and just need basic prints, it’ll last a long, long time. I had an HP for seven years before I finally swapped it out—ran into a minor issue, they fixed it under warranty, and it’s been running perfectly ever since. Sure, it was pricey upfront, but it pays off. Besides, you can always grab one on a payment plan if cash is tight.
