Is this printer any good? in Computer Peripherals ·

Is it any good? A steal, a rip-off, or just meh? Is it worth the cash?

That’s like asking someone if a puppy is "good" when you're buying it.

Does it work? Does it bark?

Honestly, it all comes down to how you handle it and what you put into it. If you try to run it on nothing but cheap gas, it’s probably gonna break down on you quick. It'll go looking for a better owner.
Need help with my Epson DX44500 in Computer Peripherals ·
silentfalcon22 said:So, I picked up two replacement ink cartridges for my Epson. When I tried to pop them in, they were leaking like crazy, so I pulled them right back out. I swapped them for different ones, and before putting the new ones in, I made sure to clean off all the extra ink with some alcohol. Now, after installing the new set, one printer recognizes one cartridge perfectly fine, but it’s completely ignoring the other one.😢

I’ve checked the sensors on the black printhead a bunch of times now. I even gave them a few extra cleanings, but honestly, the black head just isn't responding at all. When I swap the cartridges and try running the black ink through a different printhead, the printer picks it up fine—even if it thinks it's the wrong color—and the levels read perfectly. So, it’s definitely not an issue with the ink itself.🤷

I even tried reinstalling the drivers to see if something went sideways during the initial setup, but I’m still getting the exact same result. Anyone have any ideas on what else I should try?

If you're coming from around Washington, D.C., bring your Epson DX 4450 over to rustysurfer79’s shop. We’ll get a set of Twitter continuous ink tanks installed for you—they're 100% reliable, and we'll finally figure out exactly what's been causing your headaches.
What do you guys think about GelSprinter technology? in Computer Peripherals ·
swiftseal97 said:Guys, what's even going on here??

I'm hunting for a pretty specific color printer... I was leaning toward laser, but then I stumbled upon this ricoh aficio gx3000🤷

You actually need an old-school HP that pulls paper across the whole width.

What's the deal with GelSprinter? How is it different from a laser printer?
And what's the reputation of this Ricoh company??

Oh, and hey, can someone recommend a color printer that actually has a front manual feed tray!
Budget is around $500... I need to print on napkins, so we're talking really soft paper. Laser works fine for me right now, but it's just B&W, so I'm looking for something similar but in color!!

Thankss

Take an HP business inkjet 1100 or a CP 1700 for A3 materials, for example.

Just look at how many horizontal rollers those old pro machines have.

Modern HP printers like those usually just have one single roller doing all the work on one side.

Kimberly Harris40 said:I'm looking to pick up a printer for my place. Doesn't need to be anything fancy. I saw an ad for this one—it's wireless, does scanning and copying too, and has a USB port. It's priced at $233. Is it actually any good? Anything specific I should look out for before buying? Thanks for the help!🙏

HP or Canon would probably be better bets.
Urgent help needed with my HP stylus C66 in Computer Peripherals ·
James Castillo8 said:Okay... I’m a little lost here 😁 mostly because I’m a total noob when it comes to printers...

Basically, I bought all new ink—cyan, yellow, magenta, black—all the right part numbers for my HP Stylus C66, but for some reason, it just won't recognize the magenta in the third slot, even though it's totally full..

Is it possible the chip is fried or something?

How much does one of those resetters cost and what do they actually do? Is it even worth getting one?

The resetter for the C66 runs about $67
and
those self-resetting cartridges with the ink for the C66 go for $50
plus you can test them out right there in the store.

Next time you're buying cheap third-party stuff, head to the shop with your printer and try them out on the spot. If they kick you and your printer out the door, maybe rethink your life choices.

Make sense?

You've basically got three ways to go here:

Refillable cartridges that come with the CHIP

Non-refillable cartridges without the CHIPS

The Refill Kit

crimsoneagle50 said:Just a heads-up for anyone who didn't know—you actually need both cartridges to be full if you want to print anything, even if you're just trying to print in black! I double-checked this at the local GE store.🙂

Great info from a great source. Except it's totally wrong. The printer works fine with just the color cartridge because it can mix black from the colors, but it definitely can't make color out of the black one.
Question about my HP Envy printer? in Computer Peripherals ·
crimsoneagle50 said:That all sounds great and all, but I’m in a massive rush for color right now. I’ve got an exam coming up and I desperately need to print out my study guides! I don't live in Washington, D.C., so driving all the way there just to grab new cartridges isn't really worth it for me—especially since this is my very last exam. If I’d known about this three years ago, I wouldn't even be asking because it sounds like a lifesaver.
But seriously, can someone explain why if I run out of color ink, I can't just print things in black and white??? 🙂

It's because Canon designed the printer to work without black, but it won't budge without a color cartridge installed.

That's just how it works in the Canon world.

Try holding down the Resume button for 5 seconds. That might help you bypass the ink level detection. Of course, that only works if the color head isn't totally trashed. But honestly, you won't get very far if you're trying to fix this with three pieces of chewed-up gum.

northerncyclist32 said:How can I print an A3 image on this A4 printer by splitting it up? Every time I hit print from any program, it only gives me options smaller than A4, and I can't select a larger paper size under custom settings.

You can actually do that with Color Draw, or you could just grab some shareware specifically designed for printing posters.

crimsoneagle50 said:I've got this HP DeskJet, right? But it won't print if the color is out. I only need black, and my black cartridge is totally full—just put a new one in—but it keeps throwing an error saying the color is empty. 😠 I tried changing the settings to print in black only under the ink cartridge settings, and I switched the main setting to grayscale, but it still refuses to work. 😲 Even if I take the color cartridge out, it still won't budge. 😕🤷😕

Honestly, just grab an Eco refill kit and top off the color. The whole set is only about $33 and it covers 4 cartridges.

You’ll have to disable the ink level alerts in the settings, but heads up: if you don't actually refill that color cartridge, the printer will fry the printhead pretty quickly because there's no ink left to cool the heaters. Then you're back to square one, dropping maybe $60 on a new color cartridge. Basically, getting a refill kit is $33 your cheapest bet.

The downside is that once you kill those ink indicators, you won't know how much juice is left in the tank. If you aren't proactive about topping it off—since these cartridges hold almost nothing—you'll be heading back to Canon to drop another $60 before you know it.

It's pretty obvious Canon isn't playing games here. They designed this whole setup so the user always loses. The entry cost is low, but the maintenance costs you big time.

Your only real long-term fix is installing an Inkjet system on your printer. That'll run you about $100 plus tax and your own time. With that setup, since you've got a steady supply of ink, your printhead should last 4 to 10 times longer. Just keep in mind, depending on how much you print, you'll still need to clean the head occasionally. Swapping them out is easy, but even then, Canon makes sure you pay at least $100 - $60 for it. There's no such thing as a free lunch.

Bottom line: An Eco refill kit for 4 fills at $33 is your best move until you start printing way more than you used to.
Anyone used the Canon PIXMA series? in Computer Peripherals ·
nimbleridge11 said:Should I grab this Canon PIXMA series model? I don't print all the time, but there's always *something* that needs to come out on paper—maybe once in a while I'll have a batch of 20-30 pages 🙄. It’s super cheap, though, currently under $100. Honestly, the price seems almost too good to be true since I usually see much higher tags on printers.
What's the deal with this thing? Any major headaches or common issues? Also, is it actually worth it when you factor in the ink costs?
😕 Is there anything else in this price range that handles color better (ink usage vs. cost) and what kind of prices are we talking about?
And is it smarter to just get an all-in-one with a scanner? What’s a decent deal for one of those? Like, maybe something under $500-$200 ??? 🤷

Honestly, these budget printers are a total steal if you pair them up with a decent MINI refill kit. If you don't, just forget it. Just keep in mind, everyone's experience is different—what works perfectly for one person might not be the same for someone else.

rapidtrucker90 said:That’s why I’m asking here—I’m totally lost on this stuff...
I’ve always used a Canon Pixma and had nothing but good luck with it, so I’m leaning toward Canon. Plus, the ink isn't too bad to $13 refill

.

If you're a Canon fan, just grab the Canon IP 4600/4700. It’s a solid printer. Honestly, it runs faster than an Epson while keeping the print quality just as sharp.

You can go with Hummingbird non-returnable replacement cartridges without chips, or Hummingbird refillable ones that come with chips.

The first set will run you $33 and the second one is $67. With the first option, the catch is you have to swap the chips from your original cartridges over, then disable the ink level warnings. It’s not rocket science, but if you aren't exactly handy, it might be a headache. You'll basically have to eyeball the ink levels yourself. You can swap them out one by one, though.

The refillable replacements don't play nice with the originals, so you have to swap all of them at once. Later on, you can switch them individually using the same type of refillable cartridges. At that point, they'll cost about 30 - $13 per cartridge.

The same logic applies to Epson, except Hummingbird refillables come in Extra Large sizes. They cost about the same as the Canon refillable ones, but you get 50% more ink. You actually get way more prints for your money with those than you would with the refillable ones for the Canon IP 4600/4700.

For the Canon IP 1800, the only move that makes sense is getting a CISS setup or buying the printer already bundled with one. Trying to retro-fit a CISS later on usually isn't worth the hassle, especially if you're a bit clumsy with tech stuff.

which one's better out of these two?
Kodak pixma mp270

or
HP stylus sx215

and are these speakers any good?
logitech
http://217.14.221.177/StartEU.ashx?_...2W0fhlSnYJbkgYfound them on the Best Buy site along with some Philips ones..

Main thing is they both need to plug into my laptop🙂

Honestly, both are pretty much the same deal.

With the HP, you're saved by those high-capacity Hummingbird cartridges == $10 huge capacity. Just a heads up, other third-party ones are only 5 ml, just like the standard HP ones.

But for that Kodak, there isn't really an option like that. Your only move is an Ink tank system. The catch is you have to install it yourself, because once you hand over your cash to a shop for a printer, they definitely aren't going to install an Ink tank system for you. Also, keep in mind that installing an Ink tank system kills your warranty. But if you stick to original cartridges, you'll end up paying 500% more over the life of the printer compared to using a cheaper alternative.

So, the smartest play is to grab one of those printers that comes with an Ink tank system already built-in. It feels like you paid for a printer bundle with original cartridges, but for the same price, you actually get a printer plus the equivalent of 20 - 40 cartridges.

Trying to add an Ink tank system to a printer later on isn't worth it since it costs about 50% more.

You still need an eye doctor?

Jacob Bennett6 said:I'm thinking about picking up an HP Envy. Can anyone tell me how third-party ink holds up with this model?
The specs say it uses 4 inks, but you only get 2 in the box. Once I run out of the originals and grab replacements, can I run it just using those other two high-capacity ones (the option -> PG-40, CL-41) since they seem cheaper? I saw this PG-40 at an office supply store in 20ml and 28ml sizes—how does that work, will the bigger one actually fit?

- Method: 4-ink micro-jet, FINE technology, 2pl droplets
- Inks:
- HP PG-37 black (220 pages)
- HP CL-38 color (205 pages)
- HP PG-40 black (355 pages) option
- HP CL-41 color (308 pages) option

Right now, I'm stuck with this ancient Canon at home where the ink alone costs about $87—which is basically more than the whole machine is worth. Plus, refilling them manually is such a massive pain.
Help me out... just keep the prices realistic... nothing over $500, though I know that's asking a lot!!

Best all-in-one printers for home use? in Computer Peripherals ·
Douglas Nelson57 said:I’m looking for some advice on getting an all-in-one printer (print, copy, scan) just for home use. It's mostly for personal stuff, maybe scanning a family photo once in a while, or copying a few pages if I really need to. I want something reliable that won't totally seize up if I don't use it for a couple of weeks, and ideally, something where I can use third-party ink without a headache. Which big brands—like Canon, HP, or Epson—actually make something that fits this? Every salesperson at Best Buy seems to be pushing whatever they have in stock, so it's hard to tell who's actually helping and who's just trying to move inventory. Thanks!🙂

Is it possible—maybe using some specific kind of paper—to print an image onto "that paper" and then just stick it somewhere? If you catch my drift... What kind of paper or setting would I even look for, and can this printer actually handle it?

Thanks in advance!
