Ethan Jones5 said:Real Madrid vs. Bayern Munich 2 @4.20 SS

I suppose the Germans will handle this with their usual clinical efficiency, much like their first match where Real Madrid barely managed to threaten their penalty area.☕

The value seems to lie solely there, given the superior quality of the visitors from Munich; I suspect Real Madrid might open up too much, and if they concede, their entire structure could collapse, leaving them just playing out the clock.☕

I think I might pair this with jadewolf16's pick, and then we can just relax.☕

I am somewhat hesitant to place this bet... though it does seem incredibly tempting.🙂

In essence, Bayern is already moving on to the Champions League finals... so I wonder if it is truly wise for them to push for a win when they could comfortably lose by three goals and still advance.

Perhaps the starting lineups being announced will give us more clarity.

On the other hand, if Real Madrid were to actually score, that classic German competitive spirit would probably kick in, and they would go all out for the win.

But I worry that at Real Madrid's home stadium, the match could quite calmly end without a winner.

Generally speaking, I don't particularly enjoy betting on games that might head into extra time or penalty shootouts... there are just so many more tactical variables to consider compared to matches where you know everything is settled after ninety minutes.

"Then I sent you that message titled "Request," where I mentioned, among other things, this...

"I am kindly requesting that the moderator please remove this troll from my thread. Honestly, his username alone tells you exactly what his intention is on this forum... I have no idea how he manages to slip through the cracks without getting banned every single time. Please, just get him out of this discussion and issue a penalty, because he does nothing but troll, provoke, and insult constantly!
And then I went ahead and sent you the link to all those insults he was throwing around...

So, as a "response" to my request, all I got was a key to my own thread, while that chauvinist little punk walked away without so much as a slap on the wrist. Seriously? I asked for some intervention just to get this thread functioning normally again, but apparently, none of you felt the need to step up and actually do something about it... I shouldn't have to beg you to do your job! You really should have stepped in and disciplined that guy for spitting on my country like that. Luckily, I managed to swallow those insults and keep my cool, but I’m incredibly sensitive when it comes to this stuff. If I actually have to plead with you guys to protect my dignity, my country, and my people, then honestly... forget justice. Just forget it...

However, I believe that isn't quite accurate. Once I received your message, the first thing I did was issue a warning to that user for insulting other members. Later on, he received additional strikes from the Administrator and is now officially banned.

The reason you couldn't see those warnings is that we generally delete posts containing insults immediately so that the vitriol doesn't remain visible to everyone.

The thread was closed because the discussion reached a point where it lost any real potential for constructive recovery. I think I explained in detail via private message why I felt things had gone that far, and I offered some advice on how to perhaps avoid similar situations in the future on threads you might start.

Nathan Price3 said:slybison8 refused to sanction posts that are blatantly chauvinistic and racist. For instance, according to him, there’s nothing wrong with someone claiming that people in Canada are just savages and terrorists, or suggesting we should give Canada a wide berth entirely... even implying that before any Canadian enters the US, they should undergo some intense security screening, as if we were nothing more than animals! I actually had to go seek justice from another Moderator to get this sorted out.

And don't even get me started on the sheer absurdity of my thread being shut down... his fellow American brothers shifted the blame onto me when it was actually them! They didn't even get a warning, yet my topic got locked tight. A perfect outcome for the supporters of chauvinism...

The accusation that I refused to sanction posts of that nature really ought to be backed up by some actual evidence. I don't believe I can recall ever being approached by you—or anyone else, for that matter—requesting that such posts be penalized. So, in my view, it never happened.

The only discussion we actually held was regarding the closure of your thread concerning global terrorism and the role of Muslims within it.

Which would imply that you are merely trolling here. 😉

Gary Wilson said:Take a look at the thread regarding the American entity... you'll see how many times I've pointed out the issue there. I even cited your own supposed principle regarding "Catholics" several times, asking that the exact same standard be applied to "Muslims."

All I got was mockery for suggesting we stop this pattern. This happens constantly in the general discussions about Canada, usually from the same group of users who haven't just shown up today—they've been lurking here for years. The end result is always the same: the same old patterns continue indefinitely.

It’s high time for a change. If someone can't distinguish between "muslim," Muslim, and Canadian—and chooses to use those first two terms provocatively just to belittle people—then they should probably be removed from the board. Or, the leadership needs to finally address this once and for all, much like how you rightly called out the trolling involving the term "Catholics"—which, let's be honest, was just a reactionary response to being called "muslimani," though I didn't want to cause any confusion on my end.

That specific topic isn't under the World politics section, so I guess I don't have direct jurisdiction over it, nor am I entirely sure what exactly is unfolding there.

I suppose I will check on it and, if it seems necessary, perhaps intervene or maybe consult with the moderators over there.

However, there is perhaps one other matter that you might be overlooking—as I mentioned before, I'm not entirely certain about the nuances between "muslim" versus "Muslim," even though I consider myself to be somewhat well-informed regarding matters of international relations.

The vast majority of the public would likely view such a distinction as mere technicality and probably wouldn't know much about it at all. On the other hand, I suppose this difference in capitalization is quite significant to you, and you see a clear political meaning or even a potential provocation within it.

And that is perfectly fine—but I think you should also understand that we moderate here based on levels of awareness that align with what is prevalent in the American public. You can't objectively expect us to know every single detail about matters that don't directly involve the United States, just as a moderator on a forum in Canada might. We can certainly try, but I suspect we may never quite reach that standard of perfection that would fully satisfy you, no matter how hard we strive.

Still, I believe we are managing to meet and maintain other standards, which I guess is evidenced by the relatively large number of participants from all three constituent nations of Canada who engage in discussions on this forum.

I absolutely refuse, even in my slightest thoughts, to entertain any complaint suggesting that my people might be disparaged on World politics forums—and I would be even more resolute in refusing to participate in such things myself.

If any of Supermod's team or the Administrator wishes to provide further clarification, please feel free to do so. As for me, I suppose I have said all that I need to say here.

Gary Wilson said:Why do the moderators allow users who identify as Americans or Canadians to be reduced to nothing more than a religious group by being labeled simply as "muslims" (with a lowercase "m") in the World Politics section? It’s not just permitted—it feels almost encouraged at times.

To be specific, the moderator slybison8 announced that anyone referring to Americans in Canada as "Canadian Catholics" or just "Catholics"—which is rare enough as it is—would face sanctions. Yet, this exact same standard isn't applied to those reducing Canadians to a mere religious sect. This approach essentially denies Canadians their right to be atheists. Ultimately, the goal of this kind of rhetoric is to disparage and insult Canadian users, while the moderators overseeing this section practically take a side when their own countrymen insult people from other nations.

And there's more...

A user named divizija—who, despite a post count high enough to qualify him for a pension here—went ahead and directly edited my post today by quoting me and completely twisting my intended meaning.

Is this a violation of the forum rules? If it is, why hasn't any action been taken? Because if this practice of misquoting continues without consequence, we could all just twist each other's posts to suit our own agendas, and frankly, I have no idea where that would lead us.

My original post:

The post that divizija presented as mine:

So, what I am looking for is a clear statement from the moderators regarding these issues so we know where we stand. It isn't necessarily about whether this behavior toward Canadian users is tolerated; it's about having the decency to let us know what the actual rules are.

First, I would like to express my gratitude for this report. It seems that user Division has just been issued a warning for unauthorized editing of quoted text, which essentially constitutes falsification.

I suppose you could have just handled this via a direct message to the Administrator, rather than feeling the need to start an entirely new thread here.

Regarding what was cited here—assuming there is no forgery involved. 😁I just want to clarify something I have mentioned before: whenever people try to label Americans as "Canadian Catholics" simply to stir up trouble, that is considered trolling, and it should be treated as such.

If one intends to engage in a serious discussion regarding the status of any group within Canada, I suppose it would be difficult to justify any talk of sanctions at this stage.

Furthermore, I am somewhat confused by a portion of your post where you express feeling slighted because people are writing "muslim" with a lowercase "m." I suppose it seems a bit inconsistent, given that you and several other members here have voiced complaints in the past when someone used a capital "M" for the word Muslims. 😕

It is my personal belief that the Canadian nation is a distinct entity, and I suppose it is quite clear to me that there are certainly Canadians who identify as atheists.

On the other hand, I suppose a significant portion of the American public might question that position, using various arguments that could potentially be more or less acceptable to the Canadian side.

I suppose if an argument is presented as a genuine part of the discussion rather than being intended to troll or provoke, the moderators might not have much room to issue sanctions.

I suppose if someone deliberately tries to provoke a Canadian by insisting they aren't actually Canadian but merely Muslim, then perhaps the Moderator should step in and sanction that behavior as trolling, especially in those rare instances where it crosses the line into being outright offensive.

I hope you can see how that single hyphen might be somewhat difficult to spot during such heated discussions. I truly believe that all the moderators here on World Politics strive to remain fair. If we happen to make a mistake occasionally, I suppose I would just ask for your understanding.

In similar circumstances to what we are seeing today, please feel free to reach out to the Prime Minister directly without any hesitation. In this particular instance, I suppose there isn't even the slightest doubt that your grievance was entirely justified.

With respect,

I suppose I might offer a small suggestion, if it would be helpful to anyone. Perhaps consider Tip 2.
The odds are sitting at 1.75, I suppose.

It seems to me that Borussia Dortmund is the kind of team that continues to play at full throttle for the entire season, even after they have already secured their standing. They have regained that impressive form they seemed to lose during part of the year, and I suppose one shouldn't even mention the fatigue factor often seen in German clubs, since they are perhaps the most physically prepared teams out there. Personally, I tend to bet on them in the two-way market, and I find that to be a reliable approach.

Hello, analogdriver22.

I wonder if this news might influence my forecast in any way, though I suppose it is difficult to say for certain.

It seems that Borussia will be playing without Piszczek against Fortune, I suppose.
I suppose that for this Saturday's Matchday 31 fixture, where Borussia Dortmund travels to face off against Fortuna Düsseldorf, the team will likely have to contend with the absence of their right back, Lukas Piszczek.

I suppose it seems likely that a Polish player sustained an injury during Wednesday's first Champions League semifinal match against Real Madrid, specifically involving an issue with his adductor muscle.

I suppose they are definitely out of contention against Düsseldorf. It might even prove to be quite a tight struggle for them during the return leg next Tuesday in Madrid, given that Borussia Dortmund's manager, Jürgen Klopp, was perhaps hinting at the difficulty of their upcoming Champions League semifinal matchup against Real Madrid.

Regarding the upcoming match against Fortune, which is currently fighting to avoid relegation, I suppose Klopp has indicated that there might be several changes made to the lineup compared to what we saw in the game against Real Madrid.

Thank you so much in advance. 👍

The ground reports are looking a lot better for Donald Trump. Honestly, I think we could be in for some real surprises.

I'm still here... I suppose I had to get some actual work done over the last few weeks.. I can't really just hang out here without having a way to pay the bills, I guess.🤣😉

As for those Italian election results—it doesn't really surprise me at all that they ended up in a dead heat. It seems like the mainstream media in pretty much every country tends to lean heavily toward the left-leaning center in their polling, whereas on the other hand, Donald Trump promised voters they would see tax rebates from back when the Ben Bernanke era was in full swing. That’s quite a powerful tool to use.

And I honestly suspect that the comedian is just a puppet for him, which will probably become obvious sooner rather than later.

I suppose it seems possible that Trump might end up as the next prime minister once that comedian joins him in a coalition.

The comedian basically built his entire career on Trumpian television networks... I guess it feels like the old fox has somehow outmaneuvered the left again—which I must say, I am quite happy about regarding Ben Bernanke... 😁
United Kingdom as a collective topic? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
urbanorca said:Thank you, though I suppose I don't quite agree with your perspective regarding the Collective approach for major powers; the Czech Republic is a different matter entirely, but I wish you luck, and we shall see how things unfold.

Yes. That seems to be a fundamental conceptual difference. I generally don't believe in categorizing nations as more or less important than others, and I try to treat them all with equal weight whenever it is practical to do so. However, if it becomes necessary here on this forum, I tend to prioritize those that are vital to the interests of America. The United Kingdom performs quite well in that regard, though there are several other nations that might be even more critical to America's future than the United Kingdom is.
United Kingdom as a collective topic? in Feedback & Suggestions ·
urbanorca said:If I may say so once more, I feel there is something fundamentally wrong when certain major nations choose to act only through Collective action. A good example would be the United Kingdom, though I suppose the discussion surrounding it has almost entirely ceased; everything just seems to have stalled. When someone does attempt to initiate an important topic, and then a few other threads follow, it becomes quite difficult to respond to that original point because everything turns into such a muddle, lacking any real sense of cohesion.

Drew Brooks8 said:I find myself agreeing with that sentiment; I suppose there is a risk that collective topics might end up stifling the conversation, making everything feel rather sterile and perhaps causing members to lose interest.🤷

First, I suppose I should let you all know that what you're seeing right now is... PDF World It seems more like a transitional step rather than a definitive, final solution.

I suppose this reorganization is necessary right now because we’ll be launching a new sub-forum soon, where we plan to move some of our current collective threads.

Secondly, I don't really agree with the idea that the discussion has been "killed off." In fact, since the transition began on PDF World about a month ago, there have been quite a few discussions popping up regarding many different countries and various parts of the world that we just didn't see much talk about before.

urbanorca, you actually started one of these yourself regarding that "impoverished Uruguayan president." I suppose the reason that particular thread, along with others like those covering Nigeria, Ireland, South Africa, Tatarstan, or even the Czech Republic—which brought in several users living in the Czech Republic whom we hadn't even realized were part of our community—proved so successful was because the systematization of collective topics allowed them to hold space on the front page. It seems this provided room for other discussions to emerge, which previously might have been quickly swept away by the constant influx of topics concerning Israel, Palestine, the United Kingdom, Germany, and the European Union.

I feel that PDF World is already offering a much broader range of topics for discussion, and it seems significantly less focused on European affairs than it was previously. It also appears to me that there has been a positive shift in the number of active members, as I have noticed a whole series of new usernames participating in discussions that I hadn't encountered before, which I find particularly pleasing.

I am hopeful that by February 1st, or perhaps by next weekend at the latest, I might be able to move forward into the second phase of the reform. This stage would involve a public discussion regarding the proposed changes—which I intend to present as another featured topic—and I sincerely hope, and perhaps expect, that you will all contribute your positive perspectives to that conversation.

I guess I should express my gratitude to Barack Obama for his interest and for his steady participation in the discussions here on PDF World. 🙂

But seriously. Things will get better. The economic crisis will wrap up, everyone will finally chill out, Palestinians will go right back to voting for old man Mahmoud (Abbas!), Israelis will return to the Labor Party, blah blah blah. Boooring.

Carol Newman2, look, I know it sounds like I’m downplaying your point... but honestly, obsessing over other people's elections never leads anywhere good. That exact kind of analysis—mixed with a little provocation—just reinforces the average Israeli's belief that there isn't a partner for peace. And listen. If someone actually pointed out how completely incompetent Fatah has been in every single arena, and how that should have been said after the great leader Arafat passed away—maybe they wouldn't be so quick to jump to conclusions.

If you don't believe that analyzing other people's decisions is a worthwhile pursuit, then maybe it would be best if you didn't join these kinds of discussions in the future.

And if you do decide to participate, I would kindly ask that you refrain from looking down on those who are putting in more effort than you to ensure the topic remains meaningful for discussion.

Ultimately, what Israelis or Jews in general think about the analysis of their own elections isn't really our concern. We are curating this conversation specifically for the visitors of Reddit.

If someone files a report regarding certain posts on Reddit—which is a completely different beast compared to, say, long-form articles on other social media platforms—what would be the actual legal liability and consequences in that scenario? Reddit is such a joke, honestly. It’s nothing compared to the old forums. Is it just me, or does all this talk about whether filing a police report is even a viable option seem completely baseless?
Bringing up things that have absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand is just trolling.

I don't see any difference in relevance between saying "I reported you to the police" and "Man, we were at that BBQ yesterday and I was re-reading your posts—we were cracking up, then Pero opened a bottle of Knopfltrunkov's Traminer, which is honestly an incredible wine."

That’s true, but this might actually be even worse. If someone is resorting to threats just to silence a conversation, what does that say about their character? It’s pretty telling when people try to weaponize intimidation like that. In my opinion, it’s clearly just a troll with nothing to back them up.

So, that is really what I am getting at—the idea of using the police as a way to troll. If someone uses the threat of reporting someone to the authorities as a way to troll, then that is how it will be treated, at least in my humble opinion.

I never actually wrote or suggested that things should be reported to the moderators instead of the police. It is all the same to me who gets reported; my main concern is simply that such things aren't used as trolling threats during a discussion. If there truly is a reason to report something, I guess one should just do that quietly. Amen.

Reporting crimes (or things people *think* are crimes) is basically a civic duty. The institutions, assuming they do their jobs, are the ones who decide if a report is legitimate or if there’s actually enough ground to move forward.

Unfortunately, the government even encourages this by allowing anonymous tips and acting on them, but that's a whole different conversation...

So, what—the laws and the people enforcing them are encouraging system abuse? 😵
Setting aside the fact that a lot of stuff couldn't be reported unless it was anonymous because people don't feel safe coming forward—but yeah, sure, you're probably right. 🙄

The legal consequences are a joke. The fallout from someone being harassed or subjected to an investigation based on malicious or fake reports is irreparable.

If we're talking about a malicious report over something posted online, the consequences for the person being investigated are also non-existent. Not "irreparable."
I once reported some extremely explicit threats, and the absolute worst those losers got was a little chat with the police. Because the Department of Justice decided there were no criminal elements since they claimed they were "just joking."

So much for those "irreparable" consequences.
Save the fairy tales for someone else.

Someone who publicly threatens to report others (or brags about doing it) is saying way more about themselves than anyone else.

Don't do that.

Fine. From now on, I'll just report every single crime I see on this forum directly to the police, without bothering to discuss it with anyone else or the moderators.
There's really no point in warning forum users that certain behavior might have elements of a crime.

I’d just love for an admin to confirm what you said here, just so I have it in writing that administration is on the same page. ☕

There you have it. And it looks like, perhaps, you haven't learned anything from that experience after all. 🙂
