Well, let's hope it works out 😁. My son just picked up another 8 GB of RAM for his Hristo Stoichkov setup. Now he's running strictly with those 8 gigs alone. He claims they taught him in his computer science class that (to make a long story short) mixing an 8 GB stick with a 4 GB stick isn't ideal or is basically pointless. Should I tell him to stick with the 8+4 GB combo, or is he actually onto something here?
The PC is currently parked in my kid's room (read: teenage chaos zone).
I managed to get my hands on the mouse and keyboard, but no speakers yet. Everything is set for $500. The monitor is a Dell Monitor—a 19-inch model. The processor is an Intel Core i7 at 3.30 GHz. It’s running a GeForce GTX 650 with 4 GB of RAM. So, everything matches what was listed.

Finally got a chance to look at this. Turns out I still have an issue; only the HDMI output works. Apparently, the guy says it happened because he had his TV and computer plugged in at the same time. He’s fine with me returning the graphics card, but honestly, it's a long drive and I really don't feel like making the trip again 62 miles. I actually took the PC to a repair shop earlier because I was reaching my breaking point. The technician told me the DVI port wasn't working. I ended up buying an adapter ($17) and now it functions, but I still can't hook up the TV. That’s the big fail here, and I'm not exactly thrilled about it. Anyway, thanks again to everyone for the advice.
Hey, I'm back, alive and well. Total cost ended up being 57 miles. They dropped it down to $350. Man, if only the graphics card actually works! Moving slightly off-topic here: the 4850 was hooked up to an extra cable—probably the power supply, though he also mentioned something about a 6-pin connector. Will that setup work with this new card too? Anyway, I don't have the case with me right now; it's still at the repair shop. He doesn't work for a big firm anymore; he's doing freelance stuff over near the Indianapolis theater district 😬, you know, in Indianapolis. I have to wait until tomorrow to test everything out, otherwise, I’d be diving in right now.

My Radeon HD 4850 finally kicked the bucket. It served me well for maybe ten years, and honestly, I couldn't have been happier with it. I've been scouring eBay, but I'm stuck on what to pick within a $300 budget, $117. My current setup is running some DDR2 RAM, a dual-core Intel processor, and a 450W power supply. When I set the price filter on eBay between $200 and $133, there are plenty of options, but I'm just not sure if they'll actually play nice with my hardware. One non-negotiable is that I need a card with two outputs. What would you guys suggest as a decent stopgap until I can save up for a whole new rig? Thanks.

Yeah, that should work. But the thing is, it only expands while your mouse is hovering over that minimized icon. Once you move the cursor away, it shrinks back down—unless, of course, you actually click it.

And that little taskbar icon next to the clock—the one meant to show the desktop—it does absolutely nothing when I hover over it. It only responds if I click. 🤷 It feels like some weird hybrid version between Aero and Basic.
