Overheating issues in Hobbies & Leisure ·
Warming up serves at least two purposes:
- it lowers your injury risk;
- by loosening things up, you increase your mobility, which helps with things like jumping height later on.

I’ve been wondering if stretching—especially intense stretching—actually does more harm than good before a workout. I recall seeing a study a few years back suggesting that warming up is essentially putting the muscle under maximum tension. If you stretch too hard, the muscle might lose some of its peak power for a while because it gets fatigued. That applies to deep stretching, anyway. Apparently, light stretching can actually cool the muscles down, so why would we want to undo our warm-up by stretching? Yet, every pro sports team in the US warms up first and then stretches right before the big game.

I’ve been wondering if intense stretching might actually be counterproductive before a workout. I recall reading a study a few years back suggesting that heavy stretching can mimic maximum muscle strain. Essentially, if you stretch too aggressively, your muscles might lose some power temporarily due to fatigue. That applies to deep stretching, anyway. Apparently, light stretching can even have a cooling effect on the muscles, so it feels odd to potentially undo the warmth from a good warm-up by stretching. Still, all the major US pro sports teams seem to follow the routine of warming up first and then stretching right before a game.

Steven Reed said:Every major bank—from Chase to Wells Fargo—charges for a payoff confirmation letter. However, since they have an obligation to process the "unwinding" of the policy once the debt is cleared (meaning they notify the insurer that the collateral is no longer needed), you should try a different tactic. Call them tomorrow and demand they perform a policy cancellation/release rather than just asking for a simple confirmation of payment 😉.

edit: I see you mentioned the mortgage release earlier. A mortgage discharge is handled by a notary and exists solely to clear the lien from the property title. The insurance policy cancellation is a separate matter entirely and has nothing to do with the legal release of the lien

Thanks. It looks like you found the magic word: "de-culmination." That's the key.😉.

Steven Reed said:No—not quite. You need the notary to clear the lien off your property. To actually collect the insurance, you just need to bring your tax clearance certification to the bank and sign the claim forms—or the payout request if the policy has already matured.

My insurance provider also demanded a letter from the Bank of America confirming the loan was paid off. Now, the bank wants to charge me a fee just to issue that document$17. It’s my first time dealing with this type of savings account.

coppersailor11 said:$17It sounds like the cost of getting a notary to certify the documents—that's what the fee is for. Honestly, it doesn't seem to be the same everywhere; some banks don't charge anything at all—they just hand you a form, you take it to a local notary, and you pay them directly. Others charge a service fee, but in exchange, they handle the whole notarization process for you.

Thanks. So, if I want to collect the insurance money I was paying for my mortgage, I actually have to go see a notary????

Hi there,
I could use some advice because my bank is asking for $17 over something pretty ridiculous
- I took out a loan through Wells Fargo
- As part of the deal, I had to take out a life insurance policy
- Now that the loan is paid off, the bank needs to issue a formal clearance letter
- For this "clearance," they’re charging me a fee of $17?

Is this actually normal?

I rarely feel much from a joint🤷. But then again, what do I know? Maybe it'll work once I'm totally wiped out after a workout🙂
How effective are these workouts? in Hobbies & Leisure ·
Sophia Garcia81 said:Honestly, my head is spinning from all this information. Knee strain, spine issues, this and that, whether to work out every day or not, waiting two hours after eating, whether it actually works, breathing techniques... I don't even know what to do anymore.

Try heading to a local gym and ask about their women's group fitness classes. If those are too pricey, check some discount sites to see if anything catches your eye. It's much easier to stay motivated and push yourself when you're sweating it out with a group rather than being on your own. Even better, grab a friend and start together.
If you aren't feeling the group vibe, just listen to Kleica.

It definitely works if you spread those exercises out over the entire day. I used to do about four sets of 20 to 30 pushups daily, and I honestly felt more toned and better overall than when I wasn't active at all. It’s not some massive transformation, but it beats sitting on the couch or being stuck at my desk all day. Personally, I think you should push through every set until you can't anymore.
Doing 50 crunches might make me break a sweat, but doing 20 with some weight doesn't even trigger that for me—even though the toning effect feels identical (at least according to my own biology). As for how effective this "low-sweat" approach is in the long run, I couldn't tell you, but it's certainly better than just lounging around.

Susan Jackson12 said:For tea, maybe try some Daisy instead of mint. Warm milk works too, and you could even add turkey for some tryptophan. Though whether tryptophan actually helps with insomnia is debatable, you might as well try everything. 😉

Also, since you're already doing Madness, just swap his stretching at the end for some yoga. His routine is pretty mediocre anyway. A decent, long, gentle session will help you sleep like a baby while giving you a proper stretch and lowering your injury risk during Madness.

I've tried drinking Daisy before. And I got some tryptophan from the cottage cheese I had earlier.🤷 What don't you like about the Madness stretching? It feels too short to me (I prefer holding a stretch for at least 25 seconds per muscle). It also seems like most of the stretches in Madness involve tensing up way more muscles than you're actually stretching... personally, I think easier stretches work better.

I wish. I was tossing and turning for ages.🤷 Maybe I'll stop using the internet after 9 PM. I think it keeps my brain too active.

Well, I hit some training sessions that just don't work with my morning schedule, and they’re actually worth it. The crew and coaches are great. If I skip them, I usually just knock out a session of Madness instead...
I'm going to give this UH thing a shot, though I'm still a bit puzzled about how it's supposed to help. I'll also try two cups of mint tea, a glass of milk—basically, I'm down to try everything.😉
Insomnia after late-night workouts in Hobbies & Leisure ·
I wouldn't call myself a light sleeper normally, but whenever I hit the gym late—say, after 7 PM—it’s game over. My brain just starts racing at a hundred miles an hour.
Does anyone else deal with this? Have you found anything that actually works? A lot of people I talk to struggle with the exact same thing.
I even tried some Daisy tea, which is supposed to be a natural sedative, but no luck. I'm sitting here wide awake until 4 AM.🙂

And please, don't give me those "just don't work out at night" responses. That's not what I'm looking for.🙂.

That’s exactly my point. Someone needs to give the author a kick in the pants to get them moving again.

Either way, it’s much easier if you have a buddy. If you don't have anyone, maybe someone from the forum will reach out. Just mention what part of town you're in, and maybe a girl will offer to join you.
If the gym feels intimidating—like if you're feeling self-conscious about your weight or worried about people staring or gossiping—you might find more confidence joining a women's group class first, like Zumba or Pilates. You could always hit the weights for ten minutes afterward if you still have the energy...
Best protein powders for muscle gain? in Hobbies & Leisure ·
The best thing about these protein bars is that they actually taste good at first. After the first few bites—around the 40g mark—they start getting kind of floury and bland. It’s different from chocolate, where I don't really feel nauseous until I hit about 200g. Because of that, these bars work out pretty well as a chocolate substitute for me.🙂
Goluža really shut the critics up with that degree. He wasn't even to blame for how the last championship went—you just can't win at handball without a solid goalie. I actually love hearing him step up during timeouts. Honestly, guys like Čupić, Duvnjak, Štrlek, Alilović, and Horvat could still carry the national team for another five years easily. Respect to them.🙂

No Doubt?!? in Music ·
Great band, and Sandra’s vocals are so powerful and gritty, she can hold her own against anyone. By the way, speaking of German acts, Groenmeyer and 2raumwohnung are fantastic. You really need to know German to get them, but they're truly good (and a total departure from No Doubt)

I've got more than double that amount. But if it was a hit for my mom (50+), me (30+), and my nephews (10-), then age really doesn't matter.
