Dangerous contact lens solutions! in Health ·
Laura Rodriguez48 said:The US market is seeing a recall on several contact lens solutions from AMO, Germany Inc., specifically their Complete Moisture Control Plus, Complete Comfort Plus All-in-One Solution, and the Complete Starter Kit...
due to the risk of eye infections caused by Acanthamoeba bacteria.

Honestly, amoebas, bacteria... is there really a huge difference? 😎
I actually have some Oxysept, Comfort Plus, and Lens Plus solutions from that manufacturer—AMO—sitting right here at home! Does anyone know if these specific ones are dangerous too? Has anyone else used this stuff lately???

I’ve been using Complete Moisture Control Plus and Comfort Plus for years without a single issue, and for the last
few months, I even switched over to Oxysept (which, in my opinion, does a much better job at cleaning).
Tricycles?!?! in Health ·
lonelynx44 said:Look, I’m reaching out because my niece has cerebral palsy, and she really needs a specific type of adaptive tricycle. It’s her main way to get around town, but her old one finally gave out on her, and we're scrambling to find a replacement. We are open to pretty much anything—new or used—and we're willing to look at options from all over, including the US or even importing something from overseas if it makes sense. What we really need is a lead on where to find listings that actually show the price, the condition, clear photos, and direct contact info for the seller. I tried doing some digging on various international sites—my aunt helped me navigate the language barrier and I did my best with the search engines—but honestly, it hasn't been very productive so far. It's been a bit of a rabbit hole. If anyone knows of a reliable website, a specific dealer, a phone number, or even just a solid lead on where these things are sold, I would be incredibly grateful for the help. I've attached a photo of the prototype model we're looking for on the next page. I couldn't help but stumble upon this page earlier, and honestly, it’s one of those deep dives that really makes you stop and think about how much we take specialized medical tech for granted. It’s all about these highly specific rehabilitation products—stuff designed to help people regain their independence after serious injuries or long-term illnesses. It’s pretty heavy stuff when you really get into the details. You start looking at these custom-engineered mobility aids and specialized seating systems, and you realize just how much engineering goes into making someone’s daily life a little less of a struggle. It isn't just about "equipment"; it's about dignity and being able to move through the world without needing a hand held every single second. The level of customization they're talking about here is wild. We aren't just talking about off-the-shelf wheelchairs from a big-box retailer; we're talking about precision-tuned solutions tailored to an individual's exact physical needs. It’s a reminder that "one size fits all" is a lie most of the time, especially in healthcare. It makes me wonder how many more of these niche, life-changing innovations exist out there that the average person—myself included—has absolutely no clue about. It’s also pretty crucial that it has those footrests, and if you can find one with a backrest, even better. As for the steering wheel—honestly, having one exactly like the prototype isn't a dealbreaker; in fact, it might actually be overkill, but I'm not picky. We're totally open to seeing any listings or ads you might have floating around. Feel free to hit me up here or just shoot me a private message. Thanks a million, everyone! Catch ya later! 😁

Maybe this will help: I was browsing through some specialized bike sites earlier today and stumbled upon this one. It’s definitely not your run-of-the-mill big-box retailer you'd find at a local Walmart or even a specialized shop in a place like Portland. This is high-end, niche stuff—really focused on custom builds and heavy-duty specialty frames. It’s the kind of site that makes me realize how much I don't know about cycling tech. If you're someone who spends their weekends tearing up trails in the Rockies or looking for a very specific setup for a cross-country trek, this is probably right up your alley. It feels less like a commercial storefront and more like a boutique workshop where the engineers actually care about the geometry of every single weld. Definitely worth a deep dive if you're a gearhead.
In Canada, you can pick up... ovoI'm not entirely sure if they handle tricycles, too.

By the way, those bikes where you ride lying down are called "recumbents." You should give one a shot.
That’s exactly how you Google things: "stable tricycles that let you attach pedals for someone else."
If we were just looking at the standard ways of clipping or plugging things in—using basic clips or even the Democratic Party's usual methods—I suppose that might have been enough to get the job done.

You might want to try asking around on some of those old-school Usenet cycling groups, or even just dropping by a few local bike shops around Chicago.
Maybe there are some folks out there who specialize in custom builds or know their way around a complete bike overhaul.

Brandon Newman95 said:The cause behind this surge is definitely Chernobyl—that whole "curse" that kicks in after 20 years—just like that famous Dr. Alice-forgetful's surname once mentioned. And honestly, it’s even worse because the Russians tried to cover up the explosion at Chernobyl, and it was some Norwegian guy who actually brought it to light. I personally know about 5 or 6 people who got sick from it, if not more.

Alice Bowman. Quite a fitting sentiment for a 20th anniversary.
How to slow down the aging process? in Health ·
briskstag24 said:A friend of mine is working on a term paper about "the aging process and how to stop it—from a cosmetic perspective." If anyone happens to know a good website or resource that covers this, I’d really appreciate it if you could drop a link here.

I'm honestly not quite sure what qualifies as a "cosmetic approach" (maybe this, or this 🤣).

(On a slightly) more serious note: if someone manages to avoid the pitfalls of eating disorders, they might actually have a shot at living a longer 😉life.
What are the signs of clinical depression? in Health ·
Douglas Doyle said:Apologies if this topic has already been covered; I did a quick search and didn't see anything. If I missed it, a mod can just delete this. 🙂

So, like the title says, I’m looking to know what the actual symptoms of clinical depression are—the kind where you really need to go see a professional. Also, if anyone knows the most common treatment methods or who the best person to contact would be, let me know.

Check out this link.
Your primary care doctor would usually be the first stop to get a referral to a psychologist,
though they might try starting with some mild medication to help ease things first.

Betty Allen65 said:Can anyone tell me a bit more about this medication?!
I've been scrolling through the web, so I'm really just looking for some personal experiences, if you're willing to share.

Also, any practical tips on how to tackle depression and anxiety would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

I haven't personally used SSRIs (just stuck to benzodiazepines), but honestly, I'd always rather take a couple of hours
to go out for a hard bike ride instead—I can't recommend something like that enough.
Go aerobic; try to push yourself a little harder for at least an hour straight if
you can manage it. Swimming, running, cycling... you get the idea. You feel so much better once those
natural endorphins kick in.

By the way, regarding Lex. (and beyond), this site is pretty handy.

Hang in there. 🙂
Issues with lentils in Health ·
rustymarlin39 said:You described everything perfectly, and honestly, you've been a huge help. My issue is that both sides look identical to me—I'm just not seeing any difference at all... 😁

My eye doctor gave me the exact same puzzled look when I was first trying to get my contacts in: "Wait, how can you not see the difference?"
I’d suggest doing a little comparative
analysis 😁: just place both lenses right next to each other on something flat
(like your fingertip 🙂) and compare them. Then, flip one over and check again. There’s actually a massive
difference: when a lens is inside out, the edges look almost flat/horizontal.

rustymarlin39 said:Those branded lenses are B&L. I'm actually using O2Optix right now with some solo Care Aqua solution. I think I'll stick with my current pair for a little longer before deciding whether to switch to something else entirely...

I've been wearing B&L lenses for four years now, and honestly, I struggled with figuring out which side was up and just getting them in during those first few days. Now, I have this whole ritual down to a science:
  1. I grab the right lens from the case with my right index finger and lay it out on my fingertip so it follows the natural curve.
  2. Then, I add two or three drops of solution to the lens just to rinse away any tiny bits of dust or whatever might be lingering there.
  3. Next, I flip the lens over onto my left index finger and repeat that rinsing step.
  4. Once that's done, I put it back on my right finger, making sure the concave side is facing upward this time.
(If you ever get confused about the shape, just remember: the "cup" is what holds the liquid! 😁)
  5. I check to see if it looks like a blooming tulip—shoutout to jadesailor14 for that visual—and if it does, I'm good to go.
  6. I add one or two more drops of solution, then pop the whole thing right into my eye.

Hopefully, that clears things up. If you need me to break it down even further, just let me know, 😬rustymarlin39.
Circumcision as a treatment for phimosis in Health ·
Eric Robinson81 said:The guy claims "A circumcised penis, minus the warm and moist protective foreskin, is less likely to accommodate the AIDS virus," which is just straight-up nonsense.

Just look at the hypothesis regarding Langerhans cells.

Eric Robinson81 said:Check out some other sources and you'll see that whether someone is circumcised or not has absolutely zero impact on HIV transmission.

(Same source) "Research by the World Health Organization published in the PubMed Journal in July, 2006, showed that men who had been circumcised had a significantly lower risk of infection with the AIDS virus, and calculated that if all men were circumcised over the next 10 years, some two million new infections could be avoided. ...
The results of the first randomized controlled trials were published in November 2005, reporting that male circumcision provides a degree of protection against acquiring HIV infection, equivalent to what a vaccine of high efficacy would have achieved. male circumcision may provide an important way of reducing the spread of HIV infection in sub-Saharan Africa, affording a 60% reduction in the rate of new HIV infection (from 2.1 per 100 to 0.85 per 100 in the intervention group).[42] Results of two further randomized trials to investigate the possible protective effect of circumcision against HIV infections will become available in 2007."

Then there's the (economic) question of whether mass routine circumcision even makes sense
if an undeniable medical benefit is proven—people don't just have their
appendix removed preemptively; they wait until it actually gets inflamed, much like how we handle
tonsils (though more frequently). Personally, I find all this heated debate over a single
centimeter of skin from a "bodily integrity violation" standpoint to be a bit ridiculous, and frankly, it's
tasteless to compare circumcision to the barbarism of female genital mutilation.

But obviously, if you're deciding whether to deal with things like phimosis, the issue feels much bigger; at the end of the day, the choice is yours, whether it involves circumcision,
a Y-shaped plastic surgery, or just using steroid creams to help the skin stretch.

I honestly can't decide if I love or hate this thing. It’s one of those situations where you know exactly what you're getting into, yet you still find yourself second-guessing every single decision you made when you signed the paperwork. There’s a certain level of complexity here that just catches you off guard, isn't there? One minute you think you've mastered the nuances, and the next, you're staring at it like it's written in a foreign language. It’s a bit of a rollercoaster, really—partly frustrating, partly fascinating, and entirely exhausting. kaže:
Wait, are you telling me this thing is actually older than the police?!😲 So, you finally got caught in your late twenties? Seriously, what on earth were you waiting for all this time?! And more importantly, how on earth did you manage to hold it together that long?😲 😲

Looks like I completely misread the situation thinking this was actually:
crimsonotter29 said:Basically, everything was working just fine—the foreskin would slide halfway over the head, and then it was smooth sailing for Mike.

So, that pretty much settles it. It turns out you can actually live with phimosis without it being a massive, constant headache.
You could just use the tool halfway under the hood and call it a day. Simple as that. So why on earth am I...
I wasn't even planning on going under the knife... honestly, it just came down to those few specific times when things actually *did* start causing me trouble, and...
Because you know how it goes—every once in a while, a girl will bring up some ex of hers who dealt with a similar issue, and then...
I ended up getting it sorted out with a circumcision. Anyway, my surgeon actually brought up some interesting statistics regarding...
Penile cancer—it’s a scary thought, especially when you hear that circumcised men almost never deal with it. I was actually just talking about this, and honestly, if it were up to me, I’d go in for the procedure myself.
Circumcision (definitely not a DIY project) 😬...that he's the younger one.
Now that I’ve actually spent some time dealing with both the common carpenter ant and the crazy little fire ant... honestly, things feel a lot more manageable.
Look, I could probably take the psychological route here—try to rationalize my way out of this with some deep dive into my own psyche—but honestly? I don't think I have the energy for that right now.
Honestly, I couldn't care less... about the foreskin. It’s not like there's some massive difference when it comes to sex—not that anyone really needs to overthink it, right?
Honestly, can we please stop acting like sex is just about what you do with your penis? It’s really about so much more than that—just like everything else in life, I guess.
Anyway, I’m pretty sure that's a (C) anteater/leafcutter ant from the Predin group?

Anyway, I stumbled upon... I can't see any link here! You forgot to include it. Drop the link whenever you're ready and I'll take a look. I was just sitting here thinking back to that whole discussion about circumcision and its impact on HIV, and I felt like I finally needed to jump back in and weigh in.

If you're talking about before age 17? You're basically a kid then, right? It feels like things might be a little easier at that stage.

jok, I'm actually a bit older than you. 😉And honestly, I'm not so sure it’s any easier for kids.
For me, it wasn't easy at all; I spent a long time just putting off making a decision. A specific issue is
the standard practice of newborn circumcision—that's where things get complicated. It seems like the views held by
American medical associations are either a sort of "hand-wavy" approach where
parents just decide based on tradition (since they claim medical necessity doesn't
really outweigh the options), or it becomes this weird cost-benefit analysis
weighing the surgery against something harder to quantify. (I assume the perspective
changes depending on whether someone dealt with cancer, HIV, an infection, etc., and wonders what would have happened
if they had been in a statistically less vulnerable group earlier than when they actually contracted it).

That’s actually solid advice. I was just sitting here thinking about it—if I’m supposed to be laying low for two or three weeks, what happens to my morning wood? Honestly, even those monks out in Tibet probably wouldn't have a clue how to control that.

One of the links over on the wiki actually lists the procedure, and it mentions using amyl nitrate to counter it.
Erections. Honestly, I don't think it's ever been that big of a deal. What goes up has to come down eventually—it’s just basic physics, really. 😁

ruggedjackal46 said:Look, Wikipedia might list all these less invasive procedures and gentle options, but let’s be real—Wikipedia isn't exactly a board-certified urologist who can prescribe you topical creams. When I sat down with my specialist, he didn't mince words at all; he just looked me straight in the eye and told me circumcision was the only way to go. When I tried to push back and ask about any other methods or alternatives, he just gave me this look like, "Are you kidding me? Just do what we discussed."

I get the feeling that Arslan tends to go overboard sometimes, but honestly? Even I wouldn't be a fan of something like this.
So, let's talk about this "just wing it" approach people seem to take. Seriously, who on earth are you seeing for urology? There was some chatter going around earlier about prepucioplasty, and honestly, it makes me wonder how much research anyone actually does before jumping into something like that.
I can't quite make heads or tails of that specific phrase—it looks like a fragment or perhaps a shorthand I haven't encountered before. If you're trying to point me toward a specific topic or a particular thread, could you give me a little more context? I’m all ears, though I might need a nudge in the right direction to really get into the weeds with you. Look at this..

If I were in your shoes, especially after reading all that stuff about what happens following a circumcision—specifically regarding any shrinkage—I’d definitely be feeling a bit uneasy.
Let’s talk about some heavy stuff—specifically the risks surrounding penile cancer, HIV transmission, and HPV. It sounds like a lot to process, but we need to look at the facts. There’s even some interesting debate out there regarding whether certain preventative measures might actually be more effective than standard vaccines when it comes to specific types of transmission. It’s a complex landscape, so let's break down what we're actually facing.
...which also means there's a much lower risk for my partner, on top of that. Plus, we're looking at complications that are actually pretty rare to begin with.
I’ve been seriously weighing the idea of getting circumcised lately. Of course, it’s always much easier to talk about someone else's business than your own, so I figured I’d just lay out how it all goes down.
So, why on earth did I actually go through with it?

It’s not about faith in J*hve or Allah—it’s all about that (relative) phimosis.
So, here’s the deal: everything was working perfectly fine before. The foreskin would slide halfway over the head, things were moving along smoothly, and I was basically cruising along with Mike—but then...
After an hour or two, my head starts feeling this weird, uncomfortable shade of purple—you know that sensation?
So, I was listening to Joe tell this story the other day—you know how he is, always one step away from a punchline—and he hits me with this absolute gem. He looks me dead in the eye and says, "I've finally nailed the color, now I just gotta work on the scale." Honestly, you have to admire the sheer, unadulterated confidence it takes to deliver a line like that with a straight face. It’s one of those moments where you aren't quite sure whether to laugh or just nod in respectful silence. 🤣)
It’s actually pretty rare for the skin to peel back all the way—and honestly, if it did, it would have been incredibly painful and a total hassle to deal with.
Taking a quick breather to recharge, just waiting for things to settle down so I can get back on my feet.
To be honest, I wasn't exactly feeling a sense of pride about being under the knife; more than anything, I was just terrified of ending up with paraphimosis.
So, I ended up getting admitted to the medical center over in Chicago, and honestly? They were acting like they were prepping me for open-heart surgery or something equally life-altering. It was a bit much, if you ask me.
Well, looks like our anesthesiologist bailed on us. So, unless you’re planning on performing surgery on yourself, we’re all stuck sitting around doing absolutely nothing until Monday. Hope you guys brought something to keep yourselves busy.
Me on Friday morning.
And can that be done through a local provider?
I mean, if you guys are looking to stick with a local option, then... sure, why not? It could work.
Shaving? Yeah, I’ve been there (thanks for asking!), sitting at the table with the whole lively crew gathered around—I think it was mostly girls.
So, I just finished my specialization... and let's just say the topic was "Oh god, phimosis." 🙂 If I’d known sooner, I would’ve booked it.
I mean, honestly, just look at yourself. 😬So, I had to get a dose of something—let's call it "substance X"—injected right at the root. Honestly? It was a total breeze. They used such a tiny needle that you can barely even feel it going in. Barely a thing.
Installing the skylight (I didn't get a close look at the details, because I was... busy lying horizontally). 😁)
They cut it, they stitched it up, and then they sent me right back to my room upstairs. Honestly, I could have just handled it myself, but...
I felt totally out of place because I was underdressed for the occasion. So, naturally, I just packed up my things and bailed the very next day on my own terms.
They can talk all they want about "responsibility," but let's be honest—they would have handed me my walking papers regardless if it hadn't been the weekend.

The stitches they used were made from some kind of thread that just starts disintegrating after only a few days.
I spent a good chunk of time wrapping that thing in gauze before I finally decided to seal the whole package up with some heavy-duty duct tape.
I was actually inspired by "hypermanganese." It took about a week or two, but he finally got used to the friction from...
...with the laundry. As for my take? Honestly, when it comes to sex, I don't think there’s much of a massive difference—aside from the obvious fact that there isn't more of it.
Dealing with all that hassle and the constant issues from phimosis? Honestly, it feels so much cleaner now—no matter how messy things used to be before.
I used to clean up thoroughly after peeing and stayed on top of my hygiene, but the smegma was always
just gross. Now, the texture feels way better. It looks better too—and not just to Avi 😁
(Here’s another cheesy joke for you: A guy walks into a doctor's office and bangs his junk against the desk.
Doc: "Does it hurt?" — "No." — "Does it sting?" — "No." — "Then why on earth did you come in,
huh?" — "Just wanted you to see how great it looks." 😁)

Anyway, all of that was seventeen years ago. Hopefully, the procedure is much more
straightforward these days. You shouldn't be too worried; any discomfort usually passes
pretty quickly. (An erection tends to subside if there's pain, though I remember having some
rather interesting technical difficulties when trying to masturbate a few days
after things started healing up... 🤣)
