Daniel Cooper40 said:My guess is they look at head-to-head matchups first, and if those are tied—like if they all drew against each other—then they move on to total goal difference.

So I took a look over here but there isn't anything specific about the tie-breaking rules for this group...
it’s gotta be listed somewhere out there...
So, here’s how the medal count is looking after day five...

state..........Gold. Silver. That's what we're looking at, isn't it? Bronze. That’s the goal, right? Or maybe we're aiming even higher? Honestly, looking at how things are shaping up, I can't help but feel like a podium finish isn't just a possibility—it's practically a guarantee. We've got a 100% chance of walking away with a medal if we play our cards right...The UK? Seriously? That’s all we're working with here? Honestly, I feel like I'm staring at a blank wall. Is there actually a point to this, or are we just shouting into the void now?

China... looks like we’re staring at a 6-5-1-12 kind of situation here. What are we even looking at?
Russia... 4 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss, 6 points... or is that how we're counting things now?
Greece... 1... 0... 1... 2
Great Britain... 1... 0... 0... 1.
Germany... 0... 2... 2... 4.
Spain... 0... 1... 3... 4.
Australia... 0... 1... 1... 2...
Italy... 0... 1... 1... 2.
Canada... 0... 1... 0... 1...
Ukraine... 0... 0... 1... 1...
Mexico... 0... 0... 1... 1... Just sitting here watching this unfold. Any takers on where this is heading?
So, here’s how the medal count is looking after four days of madness. Anyone else keeping a close eye on the standings?

state..........Gold. Silver? Honestly, if we’re being real here, why even settle for anything less when the path looks this clear? It feels like we're just cruising toward that podium finish. So, we're really looking at a bronze medal here, aren't we? Is that where the ceiling is? Honestly, given how things have been playing out, it feels like we're staring down the barrel of a third-place finish, which—let's be real—is fine, but is it what we actually expected?..Wait, did I miss something? Is that really all we've got to work with here? Just "uk"? If you're trying to start a conversation, you might want to actually give me some substance to chew on first. Any more details, or are we just staring at each other in silence?

China... they're sitting at 6, then 5, then 0... and now somehow they've managed to scrape together 11? What kind of chaotic math is even happening here?
Russia... 3... 1... 0... 4
Great Britain just dropped one on us, 1-0. Honestly, who saw that coming? It’s a bit of a rough start to the match, isn't it?
Germany... 0... 1... 2... 3...
5. Australia... 0... 1... 1... 2...
Italy... zero... one... one... two.
Canada... 0... 1... 0... 1...
So, here we go... Spain 0, zero, 3, 3. Is anyone actually surprised by this? Honestly, watching this unfold feels like watching a slow-motion train wreck where you already know exactly which car is going to derail first. Are we really sitting here acting shocked at the scoreline? It’s almost predictable at this point, isn't it?
Ukraine... 0... 0... 1... 1...
Greece is sitting at zero, while we're already looking at a point on the board... honestly, does anyone actually think this is going to be a challenge? It’s basically a formality at this point.
9. Mexico... 0... 0... 1... 1... Honestly, what are we even looking at here? Is this actually happening right now?
Terry Fisher2 said:The first one goes straight to the quarterfinals, while the second and third move on to the round of 16.

I mean, 👍 I might have messed up there, but since we're on the subject, how does it actually work if teams end up tied on points in the group stage? Is it just pure goal difference, or do they look at head-to-head results, or maybe just the total goal difference excluding whatever team ends up stuck in fourth place?
The full medal standings after Day 3

Country..........Gold..Silver.... Bronze...... Total..........

1. China.............4.......3.........0.........7
2. Russia...........2.......0.........0.........2
3. Germany.......0.......1.........2.........3
4. Australia......0.......1.........1.........2
5. Canada.........0.......1.........0.........1
6. Spain.........0.......0.........2.........2
7. Ukraine........0.......0.........1.........1
Mexicans have to take down Spain if they want to move on to the next round, and man, things are about to get messy. The Chinese are basically vacuuming up medals with those jumps, but I wonder if the Americans are going to blow them out of the water once swimming kicks off 😁
let's see how the overall standings look...

Richard Wilson4 said:The thing is, most of those BRIC countries are essentially Third World nations. Most people there are struggling just to get by, and they don't really care much about democracy or human rights.

Their growth is fueled by dirt-cheap labor, not because they’re actually great places to live.

If you were just an average Joe, would you rather live in India, Russia, Brazil, or China? Or would you pick Canada?

Look, sure, they're still poorer than folks living out West today, but I'm talking about the trajectory here. That's why I brought up how things looked fifteen years ago versus now—think about how much better life is for someone in China today compared to back then. Can you really say the same for your average European or American? Plus, there are long-term forecasts for developing nations (the first table shows total numbers while the second focuses on GDP per capita—which is where those gaps actually start closing). And let's be real, a Canadian, a Canadian, or a Romanian... they all take their cues from Brussels and Washington, D.C. Meanwhile, the Chinese listen to Beijing, and the Russians listen to Russia Moscow.

Rebecca Watson said:We’d actually owe way more than we do today. Nobody would be around to write off our debts because there wouldn't be any basis for doing that. We would have been dragging massive debt since the early 70s, back when the whole industry basically ground to a halt and everyone just started living on credit.

I mean, sure, if you want to play that game, comparing the old debt levels from back in the America days to what we're looking at now is a total apples-to-oranges comparison. People love to point out that the former state had a smaller debt load than everything we see today—and yeah, technically true—but there's a massive catch they always ignore. Back then, other countries like Romania or Canada weren't sitting on the kind of astronomical debt loads they have nowadays. There were all sorts of different economic levers being pulled, so saying it's a direct comparison just doesn't hold water when you consider how much the global landscape has shifted.

Rebecca Watson said:If America had actually kept a setup like that during all its madness (and let's be real, it showed its flaws long before the whole thing fell apart), we would've been looking at socialism with a heavy dose of capitalism. It would have just created massive social gaps between different classes of people.

Hmm, I’m gonna have to stop you right there because I don't see it that way at all. If you want to talk about social inequality and those massive debts, you really have to look at the privatization of state assets as the culprit... honestly, just look at these two countries as a perfect case study for how those disparities actually play out:

Melissa Peterson19 said:We aren't looking at a total collapse, but rather a massive restructuring on the fly. The North won't tolerate this nonsense coming from the South—countries like Greece, Portugal, or Spain. If Europe fails to secure its footing in the emerging global order, its future looks bleak.Look at this. It’s unsettling.

Was the whole point of the EU ever actually about balanced development for every member state? I wouldn't go that far, personally, and honestly, I don't think the "mess" we're seeing is solely the fault of countries in the South or the East. Think about the privatization and market liberalization we went through; it left companies in the South at a massive disadvantage, basically unable to compete with the giants who just swoop in and drain all the capital away from them. On top of that, these countries sold off every asset they had, and now, predictably, they're drowning in debt because there's simply no way to plug those budget holes when tax revenues are too low to replace what used to be funded by state-owned oil and telecom titans...

As far as geostrategy goes, the landscape has shifted massively compared to about 15 years ago. Back then, it felt like globalization was heading toward a unipolar model with the USA calling all the shots, but that's clearly not happening. We've got the BRIC economic bloc stepping up, and the world is quickly becoming a much more complex map of competing interest zones.

Melissa Peterson19 said:The Schengen Area effectively encircles the former USA or the Middle East. The United Nations won't tolerate internal borders acting as obstacles or friction points between neighbors. At some point, once we're all grazing on the same land, they'll mandate the removal of those borders—it’s either open movement or nothing at all. The Middle East is being reorganized into cohesive economic zones. This marks the inevitable end of isolationist nationalism in America, which causes deep grief for a certain segment of the population. As people begin to emigrate, the Middle East will actually thrive from this newfound integration, finally becoming a true part of Europe. It's over. The end.

But what if the Eurozone just falls apart in the meantime?

You hear all sorts of wild theories floating around, ranging from a total split between the North and the South, to Germany pulling out and bringing back the Mark just to let the Euro tank so their exports stay competitive, or even everyone reverting back to their own national currencies. Of course, things could just stay exactly as they are... but if the Euro goes belly up, doesn't the whole European Union go down with it?

For a poster, man, seriously... when I compare this to that crap from yesterday, 🤦it's night and day.

this is killer 🙏
I’m always a sucker for those guys on the perimeter, you know? Like when a winger just absolutely rips it right into the center of the net. 🙏

Check out my previous post, see what I managed to dig up 🤣
...so I stumble upon this

hahah, honestly, you just have to wreck them when they’re left completely wide open like that, right? 🤣 🤣
Gregory Ramos3 said:Zeppelin ☕

Oh, thanks a ton, I guess I'll just go hunt down some footage on YouTube for the Zeppelin 😁
Honestly, I’m kind of bummed out. Watching some of these games throughout this tournament, I haven't caught even a single instance where a player bursts into open space, decides to let loose, and instead of blasting it toward the net, accidentally pummels the ball straight into a defender who happens to be diving for it, resulting in a perfect goal. 🙏

Anyway, does anyone actually know what that move is called? 😬
They almost pulled it off, man, they actually almost scored.

And then, with just eight seconds left on the clock, our guy Ilic lets fly from basically half-court...

God, why do we always find a way to screw it up right at the finish line?
Oh, give me a freaking break...

God, I seriously wish I could unsee that.

An offensive foul with only 30 seconds left on the clock? Seriously?
